- thewidowmaker, on 11/23/2007, -2/+29it is funny that sometimes the rules of our modern civilization have to be avoided to achieve something with lasting impact. like hell, any town or city in the world would approve this, there'd be some NIMBY who would crush a large scale project like this...imagine the traffic it'll bring or you better be taxing them for all the square-footage underground or I am not paying my taxes...etc.
this is an example of what can be accomplished in deferrence to modern society not an example of what modern society can accomplish. - Wacer, on 11/23/2007, -6/+22As soon as the police saw temples, their jaws dropped and seized the temples for the government. Yep that sounds like government for you.
I know they were eventually allowed to work on them again but I didn't see where it said the government gave them back. - geekchic, on 11/23/2007, -2/+14I think the "where shall I go for a weekend trip early next year" question has just been answered.
- noahhoward, on 11/23/2007, -2/+12Makes sense to me. People have a nasty habit of destroying these wonders for entertainment. We have a historic cave here, where the British hid from artillery barrages, the county had to put bars up because the cave was being filled with beer bottles and covered in graffiti.

- RuckusNutz, on 11/23/2007, -0/+8re-sail? Am i missing a pun or something?
- openartist, on 11/23/2007, -2/+10Umm, from what I understand officials that actually saw the temple were so moved that the government now protects the temple. I have friends who've visited there and the Damanhurians still use it daily. Damanhur is already working on their second building project which I believe is some sort of place for international peace dialogues for the EU and UN. They are a neat bunch, they are known for being one of the most successful intentional communities ever. They even sent Nasa a proposal to teach how to create and manage communities intended for long space voyages.
- CompIsMyRx, on 11/23/2007, -4/+11A demon? What are you, five? That's just plain retarded.
- jscnet, on 11/23/2007, -2/+7Beautiful.

- RobotBuddha, on 11/23/2007, -1/+5Even the most rapid anti-drug people usually use drugs. They just call the drugs they like something else.
- RiotKiller, on 11/23/2007, -3/+7Well, they say adding a basement to a home helps the re-sail value.
- alexkorova, on 11/24/2007, -0/+3One very true comment.
- xero69, on 11/23/2007, -1/+4MacLiberal it's a pity you can't actually read an article before commenting.
QUOTE:
"They do not worship a spiritual leader, though their temples have become the focus for group meditation.'(the temples) are to remind people that we are all capable of much more than we realise and that hidden treasures can be found within every one of us once you know how to access them,' says Falco." - YoshDestroys, on 11/23/2007, -0/+3I would love to see this one day. But if they offer me any Kool-Aid then I'm going to slap it in their faces.
- geekchic, on 11/23/2007, -1/+4I am not religious, but I still love visiting Churches as I think the buildings look wonderful.
- c0ldfusi0n, on 11/23/2007, -2/+4Pretty stunning indeed. Anyone knows if they're accessible to public?
- MarkCiccone, on 11/23/2007, -2/+4Greatest thing I've ever seen... I really hope I can tour them one day they are astonishing!
- iticu, on 11/23/2007, -2/+4I think you don't understand what a "cult" is. Go, educate yourself.
- RuckusNutz, on 11/23/2007, -0/+2Sorry, about that. For some reason I just flippthe ***** out after reading an article, then having some ass hat ask a question out of sheer laziness. Oh well.
- empath, on 11/23/2007, -3/+5i think it's cool that they managed to pull this off, but it's tacky isn't it? I mean, it's basically theme-restaurant decor we're talking about here.
- bobmckenzie, on 11/24/2007, -0/+2In the US, we would have deemed them a "dangerous cult" . . . and then gone "Waco" on their asses.
- krunk4ever, on 11/24/2007, -0/+2Every country seems to say they have the 8th Wonder of the World. ;p
- GoldMaster, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1It is fantastic and utterly amazing, stunning is the only word to describe it. Good luck with it.
- ChaosMotor, on 11/24/2007, -0/+1"Shines to mythology... have business in the modern world."
I dunno why people are digging you down, clearly you support their work on the temples. - ChaosMotor, on 11/24/2007, -0/+1I have a relative who rails against drug use and socialized medicine, but has never held a job and receives a half-dozen prescriptions free from the government. Cognitive dissonance is an amazing thing.
- CheapDigWannbe, on 11/23/2007, -1/+2Christians for a long time had churches and gatherings underneath the ground, during the times when Christianity was illegal in Roman Empire. (This changed when Constantine became the ruler).
- zjordan04, on 11/23/2007, -1/+2Calm down, it's going to be ok.
- ramiro, on 11/23/2007, -2/+3http://www.damanhur.info/en/html/home.asp
- niczar, on 11/23/2007, -2/+3Yes indeed, it's fugly as hell, and more specifically, incredibly tacky. It must have taken a lot of effort, but not all efforts are worthy.
- Hyperkinetic, on 11/23/2007, -1/+2Eternal Darkness anyone?
- ibookfast, on 11/23/2007, -1/+2It is an amazing place, I've only visited via books. They've created their own micro economy, with it's own media, businesses, currency. Apparently the temples were built on only one of 4 spiritual energy centers on the planet. They work on their own advanced technology, you must be spiritually cleansed before you're allowed to enter the temples. Some of the members have time traveled, and have created paintings describing what they've seen. check the site first hand.. http://www.thetemples.org/
- goldfishey, on 11/29/2007, -0/+1not to mention hypothetical.
- dslartoo, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1Now that is just damn cool. The style may not be for everyone but it surely is impressive work.
- mattxb, on 11/23/2007, -1/+1this reminds me of the Palais Ideal in France, built by Ferdinand Cheval, a post man over 30 odd years. Its not as refined a structure, but equally interesting if you read the back story of it. Everyone in the small town used to ridicule Cheval and they thought he was insane for building his "palace," but now the main revenue of that town is the tourism it brings.
http://sadtomato.net/cheval/photos_best.html - openartist, on 11/23/2007, -2/+2At Damanhur they believe in living a life in line with a pretty high moral code. They aren't at all interested in drugs and I believe they even ban cigarettes on their campus. They're Italian though, so I imagine they still drink espresso. :)
- jscnet, on 11/23/2007, -3/+3I think Constantine is back; his new name is Bush.
- iticu, on 11/23/2007, -2/+2Hahaha, Bush isn't worth spit compared to the man Constantine was.
- ChaosMotor, on 11/24/2007, -1/+1Or compared to just about anyone, regardless of who they are.
- forwolf, on 11/26/2007, -0/+0nice innocence.
- deepikul, on 12/07/2007, -0/+0deep digg...
- ChaosMotor, on 11/24/2007, -1/+1Thats right, obviously it was a magical demon that was interfering with his perceptions and changing them to suit it's own ends. Haven't you read Descarte? I thought he was pretty clear on how nefarious those magical demons are.
- treesun, on 11/23/2007, -0/+0Yes, yes you are.
- dshafer, on 12/06/2007, -0/+0The indomitable human spirit knows no bounds. What a great testament to vision and the power of the individual spirit. I am not a big traveler but I'd go to Italy to see these if they were open to the public.
- RuckusNutz, on 11/23/2007, -7/+6RTFA ASS WIPE!
- inactive, on 11/23/2007, -2/+1Wow is that tacky. Tacky and ugly. Remote viewing indeed - needs to be viewed very remotely.
- vanodorf, on 11/23/2007, -5/+3It's a huge amount of work. How was it funded?
- disabled4diggin, on 11/23/2007, -5/+2I think what's really amazing is that there are windows with sunlight coming through in these carved-out underground structures.
- disabled4diggin, on 11/23/2007, -6/+2DP; DMD.
- WoodenKimono, on 11/23/2007, -9/+4Can anybody else say "cultists?"
