- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+36I'm growing my own stool right now...wait....*AAAHHHH* all done.
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17I want to train trees to become an air conditioner.
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Actually he may not have been. I saw a documentary that basically said that was a mistranslation, or that the meaning of the word was different back then.
I think he was just a handy man. - Bob042, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Haha, I love how the description cuts the last sentence.
It takes about 5 years. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12WTF
- DollaDollaBill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9how bout a link for our lazy asses?
- drizek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8You know, planting a tree outside your home can help keep it cooler in the summer by blocking out the sun, but then it lets the sun through during the winter when the leaves fall off.
- JaggedEdge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Jesus was a carpenter you know.
- hukedonfonix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8That's cool as hell, but wait 5 years vs half an hour or less with some 2x4s a hammer and some nails to build a stool? That's a no brainer, but there could be a lucrative niche market for this though.
- drizek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Congratulations on your engagement to my daughter.
Dick." - DDoSAttack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I was wondering if anyone else would catch that.
That threw me off too. It seemed to come out of nowhere. That is why I left it out of the description that I submitted. - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The meanings of a lot of words were different back then, namely because it's all in a completely different language.
- sooperdooper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Pretty sweet, but is the stool really all they got?
I remember seeing on we-make-money-not-art how a guy had grown trees in the shape of cubes and such. - pexor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7That was such a pleasant response right up until the last word, porter. Why did you have to ruin it?
- MrTea, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12Jesus was a long haired hippie.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Wow, thats just awesome right there, im going to do it for sure
If i start now, i should have a chair when im 23
But more importantly, do the have a mold for a walking stick? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5http://www.duggmirror.com
- wizawuza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'd probably use 'Richard' to sign my posts if that were my name.
- drizek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Maybe thats his name and he was signing his post?
- DarthPilatus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Dude, it's just not the same without a Allen Key
- sustren, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4......Ohemgee, I want a rocking chair tree now.
- phenolholic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2what the *****? why would he paint that? throw some varnish and its good to go on ebay. i'd pay money for furniture like that.
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7You got 3 other friends there with you?
- goofporter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6They're already trained as air conditioners. Hang your hammock under a shady oak and there's no reason to complain on even the hottest day.
Dick - edilclyde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2cool.. ill start tomorrow, in 20 years, ill have a gazebo! yay!
- thydzik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2that is freaken cool.
the possibilities are endless... - jcaino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that is some really cool stuff...
i'm sure you could take these examples and use your imagination for other things.
very cool concept. and art. - GlargTheKelfn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what about drying and warpage? he never mentioned how he cured the wood once he harvested it. unless you dry it in a frame, it is going to warp as it ages. in a few years it would be very much less usable.
good furniture grade hardwoods are cured for quite a while before you work them.
still a way cool idea. although if i were doing it, i think i would train the tops out farther and use it as a chair in a gazebo of some sort of hang out spot. way cooler when the tree is still alive. - salinemist, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I like Jesus, but WTF did he ever do for Santa on HIS birthday?
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3No, actually, they end at 'stool'
- groe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I've proved it can be done."? Give me a break. Here's how it's done:
http://www.arborsmith.com/index1.html - Jack000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0genetic engineering
- sardion2000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2How long does it take to grow those 2x4s again? If they do this in an industrial sized setting(ie growing many of them at once) it could serve two purposes. 1. Skip a step between(no need for lumber jacks or saw mills with these) 2. Redcue CO2 while you're doing it, without ever having to belch a bunch up there to harves x number of 2x4s for whatever you need.
- allien, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0reminds me of The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein
- rua2006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For some reason that creeps me out, but I still know in my heart that it's cool.
- chaosmachine, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Amazing!
- allien, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0it all makes sense now
- JaggedEdge, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Well there wasn't much else to be "handy" with back then, Carpentry, Blacksmithing
- midgetloompa, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2"All you need are three saplings, a plywood jig, instructions and a little patience.
It takes about five years"
Oh, I just need instructions, its so simple. Anyways, its pretty cool looking, but the site doesn't really tell you much. - PostalBean, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Stool is another word for poop.
- answer42, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1@drizek
Booorrrinnnggggg..... - halfbrown, on 10/12/2007, -9/+0LOL!
- grees17, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2What?
