- WordsnCollision, on 02/06/2009, -3/+403Thought it was the "other" acid... that would be, like, far out man...
- TheWebMix, on 02/06/2009, -6/+175Living in Ohio, that is a scary story. That's the kind of thing you see happening on 24 and not in real life. Some people need to lose their jobs over this one.
- mstachiw, on 02/06/2009, -3/+166I was wondering why I melted in the shower
- Ne007, on 02/06/2009, -10/+161....fluoride is highly toxic also.
- smacksaw, on 02/06/2009, -15/+135Hmm...how about neither fluoride OR hydrochloric acid.
It's not like we know something everyone else doesn't about fluoride. That's why most people don't use it or have phased it out. Oh noes, people in Sweden and Belguim might get cavities. Or they could just brush their teeth and have some fluoridated salt if they really feel that strongly about it.
Also, I think there's thing called...oh, what is it? Fluoridated toothpaste? I wonder if it works with unfluorid...ah, ***** it. - CrazyChair, on 02/06/2009, -1/+110"Water department superintendent Kirk Baker says a water supplier inadvertently gave plant workers hydrochloric acid instead of fluoride."
Come on, everybody makes mistakes. Personally, I no longer store an unlabeled bottle of Draino right next to the mouthwash in my kid's bathroom. - Istrancis, on 02/06/2009, -3/+55Once they didn't add dihydrogen monoxide to the water, that'd be a totally different story!
- kebinusan, on 02/06/2009, -6/+57General Jack D. Ripper: Mandrake, do you realize that in addition to fluoridating water, why, there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk... ice cream. Ice cream, Mandrake, children's ice cream.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Lord, Jack.
General Jack D. Ripper: You know when fluoridation first began?
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: I... no, no. I don't, Jack.
General Jack D. Ripper: Nineteen hundred and forty-six. Nineteen forty-six, Mandrake. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core Commie works.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Uh, Jack, Jack, listen, tell me, tell me, Jack. When did you first... become... well, develop this theory?
General Jack D. Ripper: Well, I, uh... I... I... first became aware of it, Mandrake, during the physical act of love.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Hmm.
General Jack D. Ripper: Yes, a uh, a profound sense of fatigue... a feeling of emptiness followed. Luckily I... I was able to interpret these feelings correctly. Loss of essence.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Hmm.
General Jack D. Ripper: I can assure you it has not recurred, Mandrake. Women uh... women sense my power and they seek the life essence. I, uh... I do not avoid women, Mandrake.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: No.
General Jack D. Ripper: But I... I do deny them my essence. - JCPahl, on 02/06/2009, -1/+42Drinking fluoride won't do you any good, anyway. Fluoride needs to be in contact with your teeth to react with the enamel; just swallowing it is pointless. Also, isn't the sodium fluoride used a waste-byproduct of the aluminum industry?
- SheilaNoya, on 02/06/2009, -0/+41I thought the same thing.
It sounded like the plot from the movie "Wild in the Streets" (1968) where the youth revolted and took over Washington D.C. after putting LSD in the water supply. - doctechnical, on 02/06/2009, -5/+45Except no one got hurt, testing showed the problem right away, the word got out in time, the system was drained and it's all back to normal. Try not to worry so much. The process worked.
Now if a chemical company sent me hydrochloric acid labeled as flouride, I'd think twice about ordering from them again. - Ymeg, on 02/06/2009, -2/+40Because Canada is immune to such accidents as this.
- ZincSaucier, on 02/06/2009, -0/+36although i've never tasted any non US tap water, it does vary town to town. everyone has their own water treatment. some places it is really very good water. ill have to visit sweden some time
- Azerael, on 02/06/2009, -0/+34Because the Principal got scared and said you're moving with your auntie and uncle in Philadelphia.
- FriniK, on 02/06/2009, -6/+39just drink the water..youll be fine...your stomachs full of HCL anyway :D
- Justice101, on 02/06/2009, -6/+39It's just a communist conspiracy. That's why they only drink Vodka.
- TexMexRex, on 02/06/2009, -0/+31HCL is terrifying. You can buy it at Walmart and put it into your swimming pool. When diluted it's a whole lot less toxic then things like Clorine and Fluoride.
- Atalaya, on 02/06/2009, -2/+31Johnny was a chemist's son
But Johnny is no more.
For what he thought was H20
Was H2SO4. - Ravenlark, on 02/06/2009, -3/+31BREAKING: Soft drink companies take viral marketing just a bit too far.
- juropel, on 02/06/2009, -8/+36Holy hydrochloric acid, Batman!! Don't drink the tap water.
@Canadian: Hold your tongue, sir. And make good use of some proper grammar, or go speak French, thank you. - Lorddias, on 02/06/2009, -4/+29Did anyone else see Bellaire and then immediately had the fresh prince of bel air song play in their head for a second?
- RetepNamenots, on 02/06/2009, -0/+25*Dissolved
- BlatheringIdiot, on 02/06/2009, -1/+24'Also, isn't the sodium fluoride used a waste-byproduct of the aluminum industry?'
Bingo- sell your garbage. priceless. - RetepNamenots, on 02/06/2009, -1/+23Don't drink the water.
They put something in it.
To make you forget. - boomshankar, on 02/06/2009, -0/+22*Wanked
- 44Bigs, on 02/06/2009, -1/+23Adding fluoride to water is so pointless.. and somehow the Dutch government considerd it a few years ago. Fortunately they also realised that the mandatory fluoride in toothpaste was enough already. I don't think people that don't brush their teeth drink that much pure water anyway.
- Danltn, on 02/06/2009, -3/+25You think that's bad? Here they've added dihydrogen monoxide to the supply. I've stopped my children drinking from the taps and I only drink bottled water now.
- csm888, on 02/06/2009, -0/+22Yeah! No more limescale!
- wesw02, on 02/06/2009, -0/+21Wait, where was this at? It says western ohio (I live in dayton), however it mentions Bellaire High School was evacuated. Bellaire, Ohio is located on the eastern border of the state....
Am I missing something? - NoobHunter, on 02/06/2009, -4/+24You know....it's a$$h0les like you that give the rest of us Canuckians a bad rep.....STFU and GTFO.
- nicodemus26, on 02/06/2009, -1/+19*Dissociated
- vertigo32, on 02/06/2009, -2/+20It's fine in low concentrations. Like say...the concentration of 40 gallons mixed with the water supply of a city.
- stk198323, on 02/06/2009, -4/+20''But here's the hilarious part in all this: Hydrochloric acid is safer than fluoride! It's the same acid used in your stomach to digest food, and at levels of a few parts per million, it's absolutely harmless.''
WOW! Just ***** unbelievable! So since you know you have fecal bacteria in your intestine, does it mean it's okto eat those since you already have them somewhere in your body? HCL is not toxic for the stomach because it has a membrane resistent to acid to prevent it from attackign other part of the body.
HCL neer water vapor will produce a toxic gas and if inhaled by the nose, will destroy all your defense mechanism (those little hair you have that filter out ***** form air) and can even attack your lung. If swallowed by the mouth, it will burn your throat and make it's way back to your lung also but will leave you with the worst sore throat you will ever experience in your life! And that's only at lower concentration. Higher then that it will become even worst and will give you headache you just can't even imagine!
Yeah sure low concentration HCL isn't a bad poison, but it's not holy water either: it IS dangerous! - TexMexRex, on 02/06/2009, -0/+16To keep my swimming pool PH balanced I buy it. Using the stuff in my stomach would be more difficult.
- stk198323, on 02/06/2009, -1/+17No one said someone at the plant should be fired, but someone at the chemical company!
But anyway, HCL has a pretty nasty scent to it, especially when close to water vapor, it makes toxic vapor that smells from prety far away. Someone at the plant must have not paid attention or something. I used to clean up organic solvent of glass using HCL and I needed to do it under a fume hood because otherwise the cloud produced would fill up a small room. This is with about 5ml of the product and they dumped 40 pounds of it in the water so yeah someone at the water station didn't do his job either! - theGerhard, on 02/06/2009, -0/+15*Discombobulated
- HeavyNuclei, on 02/06/2009, -1/+16This is the war room!
- inactive, on 02/06/2009, -8/+23All jokes aside but, I have no clue what ***** you people add to your water supply in the states but it was the most disgusting tap water I have ever tasted in my life. All I could taste was chemicals. The Swedish tap water is like ***** Evian compared to the americas.
- Dohko_Xar, on 02/06/2009, -9/+24lose their jobs? they should be put in jail!
- videodroner, on 02/06/2009, -1/+16*Masturbated
- dbzssj44676, on 02/06/2009, -2/+17Fluoridation is not a joke.
- Azerael, on 02/06/2009, -1/+16Gentlemen, you can't fight in here!
- ryanonfire, on 02/06/2009, -0/+14or face!
- soogy, on 02/06/2009, -1/+15I'm going to stab the next person who tells me to "WAKE UP".
- benderillo, on 02/06/2009, -0/+14Thanks, Buzz Killington.
- imashmuck, on 02/06/2009, -1/+15Thanks for givings us a bad name.
- sexybobo, on 02/06/2009, -1/+15"About 2,400 people were affected by the contamination."
Could easily mean 2,400 people were told to not drink the water. - stk198323, on 02/06/2009, -5/+19But not your throat and theres a reason for that!
Also HCL is responsible for stomach ulcer wich can be deadly so yeah no biggie there! - RAEP, on 02/06/2009, -0/+13Lysergic Acid Diethyamide is a very delicate molecule. The chlorine in the water would destroy it.
- dafragsta, on 02/06/2009, -0/+13Those damn commies only want to SAP AND IMPURIFY OUR PRECIOUS BODILY FLUIDS!
