- CoolHandLuke70, on 08/01/2008, -0/+6If plants were created as seeds, then they would not need the sun for at least three days since they would be in the dirt or other medium on their way to pushing out of it. Does that make sense?
- roosevans, on 08/02/2008, -0/+5Though I am a lover of the Bible, I no longer look at the Bible as historically or scientifically accurate. To me the Bible is a wonderful "inspirational" book and a wonderful "human nature" or ethical book. I am not bothered when others point out the contradictions and inconsistencies of the Bible. I still believe!
- CoolHandLuke70, on 08/01/2008, -0/+5As for others, there are definitely some head scratching material there, especially the other group of people that Cain was afraid to go off into after being banished. Where did they come from?
- CoolHandLuke70, on 08/01/2008, -0/+5or perhaps simply not getting the full story.
- CoolHandLuke70, on 08/02/2008, -0/+4I'd bet eggs
- contemplator, on 08/01/2008, -1/+5Yes that makes good sense. But it leads me to ask the question: Did God make chickens or eggs first?
- contemplator, on 08/02/2008, -0/+4I agree wholeheartedly. I often refer to 'new testament' passages in my daily life. I receive great inspiration from it.
One of the most wonderful things i have learned is that we heal ourselves and create our own world. Jesus never used magical powers to heal. He only gave pure faith to people.
"Get up and walk then." John 5:8 - girwen, on 08/02/2008, -0/+4I am fine with what I understand to be the teachings of Christ. Then I get to the bible. That is where you get to hear what the "priests" want you to do. They've got it down to a science. They start by brainwashing kids along with teaching them how to speak. The first thing I learned was that if I did such and such (masturbated, lied, THE BIGGIE "lost your faith" or whatever) or I didn't (go to church on Sunday) I was going to go to hell. Nobody wants to go to hell. Until you begin to question the premise that it's GOD's law, and finally reject it, you are stuck. It took me 30 years to go from the initial questioning to being totally comfortable with rejecting the absurd suggestion that the bible was the word of god and not the word of the priests who wanted to keep everybody in line.
- thepoliticalcat, on 08/02/2008, -0/+3No, that doesn't make sense, if you think about it. It's the presence of sunlight that causes seeds to germinate. Without sunlight, there is no trigger for seeds to grow. You can do the experiment yourself by putting seeds in soil with moisture and with no source of light. They will not germinate. Besides, if "god" created the earth in six days, what would the herbivorous animals have to eat when they were created? There had to be full-grown forests of different plants, or they would have (a) starved to death, or (b) eaten all the young growing plants, which would not be able to reproduce.
- thepoliticalcat, on 08/02/2008, -0/+2I like the language of the King James version, although it undoubtedly differs from the original Aramaic. I don't like much of the Old Testament with all its punishing of people, like the bears that killed children for laughing at the bald head of a prophet. What kind of god kills children for being obnoxious?
- contemplator, on 08/02/2008, -0/+2Amen to that.
- contemplator, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2Neither could you i see.
- thementalist, on 08/06/2008, -0/+1Cool...
- CrazedLeper, on 08/04/2008, -1/+2I'm going to go out on a limb, here, and hazard a guess that you've never actually read the book in question. Unmistakably, men who are not above molesting children on an industrial scale are not above lying about it. And if they're lying on an industrial scale, I'm not going to give the final say to the perverted priests who are, in fact, engaged in a control scheme.
None of that, however, should be regarded as a reflection on the Bible which 1) does not teach that there is such a place as hell, 2) does not condone pedophilia or homosexuality, 3) did not consign priests to a life of celibacy and 4) did not say that the earth was *created* in 6 days and 5) probably every thing else you've *heard* that the bible said but did not verify for yourself. - sicntired, on 08/03/2008, -1/+2This is a subject that I have learned to avoid at all costs. You won't alter the true believer's faith and you can't argue with:" It's God's will."You either believe or you don't.Trying to change the opinions of others is a non starter.I have no idea what the truth is.We will all find out soon enough and that's soon enough for me.
- inactive, on 08/02/2008, -2/+1Yes"pure faith".If you want your country to be put back the way it was before it was ruined by traitors and unsuitable immigrants, then pure faith and a belief in your cause will beat trechery and subversiveness any day.
- avengingturnip, on 08/02/2008, -4/+2Wow! It is amazing that in two thousand years there has not been any scriptural study that addresses these 'contradicitons'. Oh wait! There has been. The authors of this work just could not be bothered with that.
