(yes, I know this has been submitted before.) - BaphClass, on 07/22/2009, -10/+286Everyone forgets the Canadians.
Goddamnit, even though we suffered the most casualties at Juno Beach, we still got the job done! - dtele, on 07/22/2009, -12/+269My favourite line: "Russia & the USA don't do *****"
- inactive, on 07/22/2009, -5/+242Yeah, that's how it happened alright. That could have saved me a week or two of fail in history class in 5 minutes.
- inactive, on 07/22/2009, -11/+207I just want to add, as someone who has studied WWII extensively, if it were not for the Russians, the Allies including the United States would've been beaten to a bloody pulp by the Germans. The losses the Germans amassed while fighting the Russians was the singular turning point in the war. After that the Americans essentially came in for the clean up afterward.
- Rujtu, on 07/22/2009, -2/+174Another definition posted on that site: World War II - One of the few sequels that surpassed the original.
I find that to be far more brief and accurate. - BlackOculus, on 07/22/2009, -4/+174dugg for "buckets 'o sunshine"
- MMilitia, on 07/22/2009, -3/+153I think it's a mistake to try and describe WWII as a single war because in doing so a lot of important details get lost. In actual fact it was several wars that all just kind of joined together. From these descriptions it sounds like Japan just decided to join Nazi Germany for ***** and giggles when infact they'd already been at war since 1938 with China.

- mikeinto, on 07/22/2009, -5/+149"The US decides invading stuff is a pain in the ass and invents the atom bomb instead. Drops two buckets 'o sunshine on Japan. "
That wasn't exactly the time line but the decision given to drop the bombs was right on target. (no pun intended) - SunflashX, on 07/22/2009, -9/+135Forgot to add that the Japanese raped and killed hundreds of thousands of people from China and other Asian countries...but hey, everybody forgets that too...
- Wolfie351, on 07/22/2009, -2/+116And, like every other WWII compilation piece, 99% of it is about the war in Europe. 1% Pacific
- grandinferno, on 07/22/2009, -7/+116Full of win! Unlike ze Germans...
- kingmanic, on 07/22/2009, -11/+118Canada did nearly as much int he European theatre as the Americans despite having 1/10 the population and wealth.
- inactive, on 07/22/2009, -2/+109Very funny, but I wish it were a bit slower.
- WootZoot, on 07/22/2009, -0/+101And you can get the whole thing printed on a mug!
- deff, on 07/22/2009, -0/+92Yep, thats how my history class was, too. *****, I learned more watching Discovery and History than I did in most of my classes.
- kingmanic, on 07/22/2009, -2/+90It's hard to say if the Americans/Canadians/British wouldn't have also steam rollered the Germans. We know they took a huge beating in the eastern front and that made victory in the western front much easier but the Americans/Canadians/British bankrolled the eastern war. Americans/Canadians/British also had a huge number of troops ready to be deployed and were well equipped. It would have been a hell of a lot closer but the Allies had air warfare superiority, information warfare superiority, some technological superiority and eventually naval superiority. The Russians at most points in the war only had numeric superiority.
Although I believe the Americans dramatically over play their contribution and underplay the contribution of Russia, China, Canada, well basically everyone else. - Wareznuke, on 07/22/2009, -6/+92Best explanation for someone who don't like no books.
- BaphClass, on 07/22/2009, -3/+88Which is exactly why we kick so much ass. For ***** sakes, we invented Superman, and IMAX.
- inactive, on 07/22/2009, -0/+79I ***** love maple syrup.
- kingmanic, on 07/22/2009, -3/+75Not really. The Americans were using hax so they could tell when the Japanese were rushing or teching. Every major naval battle went the Americans way because they were hacking. Ground battles were harder to hax and although the Americans won most of them they were bloody and expensive in terms of resources and human lives.
- Bots, on 07/22/2009, -1/+72ya. Canada was a lot more involved than this brief description eludes to.
- feliks2, on 07/22/2009, -1/+68You covered all of WWII in two weeks? wtf kind of school does that?
- calvincooper66, on 07/22/2009, -3/+70Buried for no mention of Greece's contribution. By giving the punk-ass Italians all the hell they could handle, the Hellenes forced Hitler to focus troops and resources on defeating and occupying Greece, thereby weakening his position in other fronts. (Everyone forgets this)
- SilverBack101, on 07/22/2009, -0/+63I can't believe I sat there and watched it all. Still it was good.
- ByteGuerilla, on 07/22/2009, -1/+61"at Juno Beach"
- inactive, on 07/22/2009, -4/+62I prefer the description at the number one spot.
- bubbameister33, on 07/22/2009, -4/+59NEIN NEIN NEIN!!!!
- Rujtu, on 07/22/2009, -0/+53Korean's haven't forgotten that. I assure you.
- mythril, on 07/22/2009, -0/+51If you can't read go play counter strike and stop bothering the rest of us.
No, seriously, counterstrike is a good game. - Khiva, on 07/23/2009, -12/+61I just want to say that I'm proud to be part of a country that still to this day wrestles with the morality of nuking of bunch of ***** that totally had it coming.
To illuminate the matter somewhat, you will not find a single Chinese - the group of people who suffered the most under the Japanese - who for a moment second-guesses the wisdom of the nuclear attack. Not that this _justifies_ the act, as there's a lot of blood-vengeance wrapped up in the Chinese mind, but I mention it just for a bit of context.
How many times in history does a country get attacked, then retaliate, only to claim no territory from the aggressors, rebuild their nation, and walk away BFFs? Maybe I am far too immersed in ancient history at the moment to see the forest for the trees, but this fact astounds me, as I think it astounds too few.
I don't agree with BabyWookie - I think, after struggle and doubt, that the attack was the right thing to do. The Japanese today are not the Japanese of the time, and were then led by about as vicious, rapacious, and blind a group as can be imagined. But the decision to use a nuclear weapon should be troubling to anyone, even in the most black-and-white of circumstances (which this was not). We need people constantly calling the decision into question; we need to wrestle with it as much as we can bear. - Pilot85, on 07/22/2009, -2/+51I've been to Hiroshima and seen ground zero, and I still laughed at that description. I'm going straight to hell.
- UnterDenLinden, on 07/22/2009, -1/+50Except for all of those that we won.
- directedition, on 07/22/2009, -1/+50That's just how the log looks. The pacific war didn't have as many join/unjoin server messages.
- danj484, on 07/22/2009, -1/+49And the Canadarm
- sildude, on 07/22/2009, -3/+50And how would it have ended without the british? Or the other members of the Allies? War is a collaborative effort.
No doubt the US had a major impact in the war, but to solely take all the credit isn't fair for the thousands of other soldiers, who also died in battle. - BridgeBurner, on 07/22/2009, -0/+47Left out North Africa and Italy invasions.
- BedPost, on 07/22/2009, -1/+46Everyone says without the USA, we'd all be speaking German right now. That's wrong. We'd all be speaking Russian.
- chinaman1212, on 07/22/2009, -32/+76"US starts telling everybody how it was all about them, & 64 years later is still doing so."
And how would it have turned out with out us?? - Rethcir, on 07/22/2009, -3/+47"Some of the World War II guys in 'Call of Duty' have, like, foreign accents... what's up with that?" Haha, go back to Wrestlejam 88
- Bodhinature, on 07/22/2009, -2/+44We wouldn't be a world power. Great Britain would have allied with Germany as a vassal (see I Happened Here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It_Happened_Here). Russia would have been a little broker with a few million less people, but mostly intact. Everyone in Europe would still hate Jews, but find a newfound appreciation for Prussian culture. 50 years later the United States would award Third Reich Germany "Most Favored Trading Nation" status.
- tech42er, on 07/22/2009, -2/+44Uh...no. The Japanese won a lot of the early engagements, but Midway was the turning point. After that, the US won every battle, but it was very bloody and only got bloodier as the fighting got closer to Japan.
- Presbyterian, on 07/22/2009, -4/+46I find it Hilarious how the British Empire had a problem with German expansionism.
- Hetman, on 07/22/2009, -1/+42Perhaps a more simple solution would be for you just to stay on reedit and not come to digg.
- muleskinner, on 07/22/2009, -0/+41Did Hitler really only have one ball-nut?
- staffa, on 07/22/2009, -0/+38We are great friends with the political descedants of the Chinese government during WW2.
That being the government of Taiwan. - reefsurfer226, on 07/22/2009, -1/+39quickly.. before ze germans get here.
- AmyVernon, on 07/22/2009, -0/+37Not even on this one?
