- fwertz, on 08/12/2008, -0/+33Me: "Why don't we head back to my place?"
Librarian: "How can I trust you?"
Me: "Babe, relax. Here, this is my PhD in Virginity, I earned it a few years back after I got my masters in Feminist Literature at a prestigious over-priced anti-war/American-lifestyle private school in Pennsylvania. It's all good."
Librarian: "I get off at 4."
Mybrain: "You'll be getting off again @ 11 thanks to degree mills!" - pdizz, on 08/10/2008, -0/+21I remember seeing St Regis University ads all the time
- StingingNettle, on 08/11/2008, -0/+19I think I'll keep my $699
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -0/+19"powdered vegetables in water"?
that's a cure-all if i've ever heard of one - Severys, on 08/12/2008, -2/+20This makes me sick. It took me 7 years and a ***** load of hard work to get my PhD including a viva (oral exam) which was the most stressful 4 hours of my life. If people want the degree, frigging work for it.
A so-called television celebrity 'expert' Dr [sic] Gillian McKeith was found to have bought her PhD from a non-accredited distance learning based university in the US.

- ryanhayn, on 08/12/2008, -4/+18I paid $300. Got myself an iPhone with Epocrates and Wikipedia on it. I know more than my doctor does about medicine.
- Rudegar, on 08/12/2008, -0/+12for easy access to the beer-bong?
- YoYoBlah, on 08/11/2008, -0/+11What about Tylenol? Does that count?
- richman241, on 08/11/2008, -0/+9Great..ill take 2
- bieber, on 08/10/2008, -6/+15I've never heard of a PdD before. Surely, something much more advanced than I could aspire to...
- dilbert, on 08/12/2008, -0/+8They'll get a job as a post-doc and then tell PhD students and technicians to do the job for them. Already happening.
- tuffguy, on 08/12/2008, -0/+8Ok, so I understand that the author intended to show how easy it was to get a degree, etc. So the author sends in a document from a Harvard graduate with a PhD in Mathematics to prove how easy it is? Once again, I know his intent was to show that a madman could get a degree... but let's be honest, Ted Kaczynski wasn't stupid (in the IQ sense - definitely not so much in the social aspect).
- duggdowncatisad, on 08/12/2008, -1/+8girls
- diemunkiesdie, on 08/11/2008, -0/+7Sweet where do I sign up!
Wait, this IS an advertisement for diploma mills...right? - bunnyandzombie, on 08/12/2008, -3/+10Is this how George W. got his degree from Yale?
- acceleriter, on 08/12/2008, -0/+6From now on, that's DOCTOR acceleriter to you.
- punchingjudy, on 08/12/2008, -0/+5This link is absolutely not working for me. :-/
- micro506, on 08/12/2008, -0/+5Tenure, here I come!
- bubba9999, on 08/12/2008, -0/+5Torchwood University degrees are even cheaper, but they were made with alien technology.
- billyfalconer, on 08/12/2008, -1/+6His daddy paid a hell of a lot more than $699.
- Nazuel, on 08/12/2008, -1/+5This explains a lot of idiots with degrees that I have met. Too bad stupidity pays off and they get promotions without even knowing their job.
- sockpuppets, on 08/11/2008, -0/+4"Criminally Insane Puppets." Awesome.
- jgatz, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4sounds good to me
- Vusys, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4Why would you pay $699? You can get a Ph.D. for free: http://thunderwoodcollege.com/
- goofygarber, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4Am I the only person this is down for? I'm getting white screen.
- webman77, on 08/11/2008, -4/+8To tell you the truth, this message do not suprise me. I hope that this crime rate will be blocked up soon. On the other hand I don`t understand how stupid an would-be academican must be to believe that buying an "PhD" will never affect somebody in any direction (butterfly effect ;))...
Such a lie ruined a doctor`s character (which we all know is really important) for the rest of his life! - robcornelius, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3IIRC Channel 4 have dropped her now. Relax just a tiny bit
- bincoder, on 08/12/2008, -2/+5too expensive.
Cant I just google, fill out forms and do it for free?
I hate how the haves decide which have nots will have. (for a fee)
And still I know what I know, and use that knowledge in my life, doesnt really matter if the powers that be approve or not. :P - thecarpe, on 08/12/2008, -2/+5You have 2 amazing choices then! You can either trust a proctologist to scope you on his inferior med school training and pesky experience, or you can take that shiny iPhone and shove it straight up your arse and take some pics. The service plan plus phone amortized over the course of a year is likely equivalent to a colonoscopy, but you'll be so much cooler if you go the DIY route! Plus, you'll still be the smartest person you know.
- gofrance, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3phd for $700? it's europe.
- defy, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3Ted Kaczynski also had a real PhD and was an assistant prof at Berkeley. The article was trying to be sensationalist in using his writings, but they need to do more research next time...
- michaeldillon, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3The Google ads for this story have links to get a PhD online.
- billyfalconer, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3Hey, if it's good enough for my buddy L. Ron, it's good enough for me.
- inactive, on 08/13/2008, -0/+2Nevermind... Euler's Theorem.
- bieber, on 08/13/2008, -0/+2For the record, the article title was "A PdD for $699" when I originally commented. Apparently it's been edited since...
- laughandsing, on 08/12/2008, -0/+2There are girls in alot of other places.
- secrity, on 08/12/2008, -0/+2Why did Amway change their name to Quixtar, and are now spending lots of money on TV advertising telling people that Quixtar is really Amway? Many people run away screaming from anybody who sells Amway,
If I were them, I wouldn't tell anybody that Quixtar is really Amway - bratterscain, on 08/12/2008, -0/+2I got a white screen. Mirror: http://www.chicagotribune.com.nyud.net:8080/news/n ...
- TBITS, on 08/12/2008, -0/+2why is that guy getting 12 1/2 years. He should go away for criminal negligence, impersonating a medical doctor, negligent homicide, ect. 12 yeas isn't a long time wtf was the judge thinking.
- TheShad0w, on 08/12/2008, -1/+3Yea... but digg and other creditable news sites have combed his student records and professors. There were several comments of "Never showed up to class" and "Failed to turn in work".
- inactive, on 08/12/2008, -0/+2I don't know about PhDs, but I know federal government employees can use online master's degrees to qualify for higher pay brackets.
- inactive, on 08/13/2008, -0/+2solving this puzzle should earn you a PHD - http://digg.com/odd_stuff/The_Puzzle_Must_be_Solve ...

- thecarpe, on 08/12/2008, -0/+2True, but he'll meet some of his benefactors - his cell mate may be a non-accredited PhD/MD, but I'm sure the rectal exam will be more than thorough.
- techmint, on 08/12/2008, -0/+2It's not like it's an accredited institution or anything. Let people give them money for paper.
- GovernmentsGun, on 08/12/2008, -0/+1If I remember correct, the news reported about six years ago that the Undersecretary for the Department of Homeland Security had a degree mill degree.
- nickstang, on 08/13/2008, -0/+1I love how there is an advertisement for University of Phoenix online next to the article.
- Acolyte357, on 08/14/2008, -0/+1http://thunderwoodcollege.com/accreditation.php
