Read the original article instead instead of this rehashed crap. - dsmx, on 07/08/2009, -0/+36It's that company that sends those free coasters to you every now and then.
- Uaedaien, on 07/08/2009, -1/+37Under contract law it is well established that silence cannot amount to acceptance of an offer. Since there is no contract without acceptance AOL should give up now and crawl back into the depths of consumer hell that they emerged from.
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -1/+35AOL really sucks, they have always been dirty and evil stealing our money with tricks!
- pcpimpster, on 07/08/2009, -2/+36Kill it with plasmids.
- Malik112099, on 07/08/2009, -1/+33What's AOL?

- Solkre, on 07/08/2009, -1/+19I think you owe me $20, and if you don't deny it then it must be true.
- mgraves81, on 07/08/2009, -0/+13My thoughts exactly. I wonder if it still makes the screeching dial-up noise when you log-in.
- BxBoy, on 07/08/2009, -0/+12Welcome to AOHell, once you join, you're a member for LIFE!
- uberduger, on 07/08/2009, -0/+12No, weak is making me scroll up to find his comment.
I'm like old-Mario - I only scrolls one way. - inactive, on 07/08/2009, -0/+12AOL = All Out of Luck.
- cyoder, on 07/08/2009, -1/+12"People still use AOL? Really?"
No. That's why AOL is now just billing people for service they never authorized. - tommy7154, on 07/08/2009, -0/+11I remember years ago when I had to call and cancel my account with them 3 times before they finally stopped billing me. Haven't dealt with them since, though I don't see why anyone would nowadays..
- CrazyEddie041, on 07/08/2009, -0/+10That little "Reply" button is there for a reason...
- Malik112099, on 07/08/2009, -0/+10I see more NetZero disks these days than AOL. I wonder how much money they lost on sending out all those disks.
- Solkre, on 07/08/2009, -0/+10MSN was a great dial-up service actually, you could ditch the software and dial in by hand.
AOL installs required stupid broken ***** all over the computer (at least when I last saw it 5 years ago). - Paranor01, on 07/08/2009, -2/+11This is AOL, not politics dumbass ... damn trolls are becoming worse than cockroaches!
- borez, on 07/08/2009, -0/+8Damn I miss all of those free mini frisbee's AOL used to send out, they were perfect at night for clearing wailing cats from the back fence.
- DigitalisAkujin, on 07/08/2009, -0/+8So glad I went with MSN over AOL back in the dail up days. It's MS but atleast there were no strings attached.
- ShadowFusion, on 07/08/2009, -0/+7god my mom used AOL up til a few months ago.. it took me over a year to convince her to get rid of it. Paying an extra $10 or whatever a month to access the internet you already have access to through cable is ridiculous. Took the rough economy to finally get her to cut some extra expenses and AOL was one of them. THANK GOD
- kefkaantakrist, on 07/08/2009, -0/+7You know, it's really easy to say that AOL should have been working toward offering broadband for a long time. But how? Were they supposed to lay copper to every home in America? That would have been prohibitively expensive. Launch a satellite and sell dishes? Either they or the customer would have to pay for the dish - expensive again, which is why other satellite internet companies haven't taken off. Subcontract to the cable and telephone companies? That would mean AOL was just making the sales and taking a commission, and eventually everyone would figure out they could just work directly with the local provider.
It appears AOL never really had a chance. Buying Time Warner probably seemed like a great idea at the time - as a way to get into the cable broadband market. But they gave up a lot of stock (and control) in that deal. - duggtodeath, on 07/08/2009, -0/+7The company which released millions of assheads on the internet, eventually leading to YouTube comments.
- chadsexingtime, on 07/08/2009, -1/+7I used all my aol free accounts as coasters.
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -0/+6I used to work for AOL a long time ago, had something like 500 free hours after I quit, they upgraded me, and that was over 10 years ago. I paid it, as they put me on collection 2 years after the fact. It was pure hell trying to get that fixed. I hate AOL with a passion.
- FFandMMfan, on 07/08/2009, -1/+5I don't know why anyone would use AOL. I had it years ago, and aside from the ridiculous pricing and ***** speeds, I had once said "***** you" in a chat room and they shut down my account and forced us to pay them to reinstate it because I was "being offensive".
- Salif, on 07/08/2009, -0/+4I didnt even know that aol still existed
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -1/+5This isn't AOL at all but a shady collection agency.
When they tell you that they don't have to provide proof of the debt laugh and then go to http://annualcreditreport.com and see and contest stuff on your credit report for free and online. They say that kind of stuff to the credit bureaus and it is immediately off your record. They keep harassing you send them a cease and desist letter then sue the collection agency for $1000 in small claims court. That will shut them up and you will get $1000 if you do it right. - Solkre, on 07/08/2009, -0/+4I'll sell you the debt for $18, you can add fees and interest as allowed by law, of course.
- lsocoee, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3I'm still working on using my 30,000 free hours. I hope they don't take those away from me.
- ripple123, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3can you say class action?
- SteveIsTheDude, on 07/08/2009, -1/+3Thants not all she uses! Oh YEAH!
- RobotCitizen, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2It saddens me that this classless outfit is still even in business.
- cyoder, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2.....I don't know, I don't hear any denial.
By the way, I'm a debt collector. Would you like to report this deadbeat so I may take it off your hands? - marmotjmarmot, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2My mom does. I guess I should be happy that at least she uses the net. But it's aol, so she's not really.
- mousky, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2It says so on Page C. No wait Page D.
- L0NER, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2AOL gave free accounts to anyone who worked for wanner bros companies (alot of people) and let them keep them after they left...
now they want to charge for there laughable service.
ha - Residents, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2Remember the older stories? I believe it went something like this.... an AOL employee quit and released documentation to the media that AOL knew that 60% of it's customers didn't own a computer. (I'm not positive on that percentage but it was large) and then some people tried to sue saying that they thought it was some support group and that the CD's were souvenirs. One lady sued because she thought the "Pop-up blocker" would help counteract her husbands cialis. I'm not surprised it's still shady.
- crilen007, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1No, what I said does not need correction. What I say never needs correction. I actually read what I type.
- kefkaantakrist, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1I agree with you completely about Time Warner. AOL "bought" Time Warner but gave up way too much control in the process.
However, AOL had BYOA for a long time. Obviously they could have done it sooner than they did, and I am having a hard time remembering when they did it, but by the time broadband was available in my area (2000 or '01) they were offering it. - inactive, on 07/08/2009, -2/+3@willie: You forgot to respond to your baseless accusation.
Here's the link: http://digg.com/politics/Palin_Department_Of_Law_P ... - Flagg3, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1They could have worked out bundling deals with broadband providers, or offered Bring Your Own Access years before they finally did.
Even AFTER the merger with Time Warner Cable, AOL did NOTHING for YEARS to even offer a way for Time Warner Cable users who were paying for high speed internet from AOL/Time Warner the ability to bundle AOL with their High Speed Internet.
In short: Time Warner killed AOL. They stopped mailing CDs, they stopped advertising, and they didn't even consider an upgrade plan to Broadband. Say what you will about Steve Case, but the man knew how to grow market share.
Can someone even name one single thing that AOL/Time Warner attempted to do to gain market share after they merged? Did they think that the business would magically continue as a dial-up provider forever? - CrazyEddie041, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1More like the 25 year old used car that you had to get in college. You had to work through all of the crap and it cost you a fortune in repairs.
- crilen007, on 07/08/2009, -1/+2That's America for ya!
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Online*
- kefkaantakrist, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1They never really had that money - AOL bought Time Warner with stock and debt transfer. That means Time Warner shareholders saw their stock nullified and replaced with shares in the new company, and AOL took on the debt obligations of Time Warner.
AOL probably could have invested some of the money they did have into laying copper, but it would have been very expensive and not very profitable, and their competition was able to offer competitive service using mostly the same infrastructure they already had in place. - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1I was an Earthlink employee and we just resold Time Warner's copper and fiber as Earthlink. They still do it.
AOL sucks! (ELNK Dev) - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1So glad I bought my own domain name and setup my own data center.
- drewh1991, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1My grandparents still use it.
