- knightblade2oo4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+85the cause is probably violent video games.
- SlappyMc, on 10/12/2007, -15/+93I love how violence against children and women always gets a thumbs up from the digg crowd.

- blogger1947, on 10/12/2007, -4/+70I would not "leave it for the parents to deal with" unless I had made damn sure they will do something.

lol - 0x0000ff, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32"We'll leave it for the parents to deal with." ..... Because they're obviously responsible parents, what with their 8 year old daughter prank calling emergency services and using profanity.
TO THE DUNGEON! - AK10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26Thank you for straightening that out erkokite, digg says the punishment should be somewhere between a punch in the face and a horrible flaming death. The more you know...
- mikev, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28Where's the ***** discipline?
Most kids don't learn to be total asshats on their own... - DocBoss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Truly a sexist society, little girl makes prank 911 call, gets in no trouble at all. Then this little 10 year old boy almost pranks a fire alarm and gets charged with a felony.

"Our kid's a ***** *****" "Seriously! How can she live with herself" - ksponge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Haha, if you think you can't watch a kid frequently enough to catch them on the phone over 100 times making prank calls, you are mildly retarded at best. I have 2 and I know what the ***** they are doing 98% of the time. I regularly sneak up on them also and appear out of nowhere to keep them guessing at all times. If things get quiet for more than 2 minutes, you know something is going on. Please attempt to unretard yourself. Thanks.

You mean "Whatever you do DONT read this." -right? - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14The parents should definitely be charged....since they obviously didn't bother to teach their kid to NEVER mess with emergency numbers if it is not a real emergency.
Perhaps they could just be fined a little, like maybe $5 for EACH call that was made. - xZeddx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I blame Crank Yankers.
- GaffleSnipe, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16I wonder if she will remember this when she gets older, or if the parents will have to tell her about it, followed by reminiscent laughter.
- brownspank, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I blame William Shatner.

just bringing up an interesting story with the exact opposite outcome.
should have added this for all those who take everything seriously

- rossjamesparker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Never "punish" a child, ever, under any circumstances"
I hope I never meet your kids. - diggduggjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I am impressed they will leave it to the parrents. That is the sane approach. No one died or was injured.
I was expecting to read of some DA, trying to up his conviction rate, frothing at the mouth about evil or something.
The girl probably did not understand the implications that she could have interfered with someone's rescue. My kids at that age could be smart or stupid at any minute and very seldom understood the full nature of what they were doing. Kids do not think that far ahead. As a parent, you are always trying to get them to see a few steps ahead where they go , "Oh! that would be bad!" - michaelbeckham, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Take her to Maury Povich with the other "out of control kids".
- alteratti, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7stupid girl.
what the hell were her parents doing? (and do I need to answer that?) - 0x0000ff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5For some reason an 8 year old using profanity brings that line from The Exorcist to mind.
- betster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4better take care of it before she gets out of control...
- synaesthesia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I remember when I was maybe a few years younger than the girl in the story; I called 911 and was casually BSing with the operator, just being a retarded little kid I guess. Less than 20 seconds into my conversation and my mom snatched the phone from my hands and apologized profusely. What the ***** was the mom doing in this situation and how is she exempt from any sort of punishment?
- SteelChicken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I did this when I was a kid, and when my parents found out, they beat my ass. Surprisingly enough, it never happened again. Huh....how about that?
- erkokite, on 10/12/2007, -17/+21Light her on fire, and push her off a bridge.
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -3/+7I don't think America has it, but in Australia we have something called "Dolli Incapax" which essentially means incapable of crime. Being as young as she is, I don't think they can do very much at all to her, and of course that's why it's left to the parents. Now I know most of you know this but just to clear it up for those who don't.
When you're young one of the few numbers you remember are emergency ones and your own home phone number. She could have easily made these calls when she wasn't supervised (who pays 24/7 attention to a 8 year old?). She may have very good parents but little kids can get up to a lot without parents knowing. It is not necessarily a reflection of bad parenting. With households having more and more mobile phones and cordless phones, she could have done this in her room without anyone knowing. - zephc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wow, all I can say is she is... prolific!
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That's a paddlin'
- zephc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"Hangin's too good for 'em! Burnin's too good for 'em! They should be ripped into itsy-bitsy little pieces and BURIED ALIVE!!" (from Heavy Metal the movie)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7When my kids do something wrong - which is NEVER - we sing the "Think of Others" song I wrote for my lute. I sing it in kind of a falsetto, and the moral of the song is that it although there is no such thing as "right" or "wrong" per se, not thinking of others feelings makes daddy very, very sad.
- noumenon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3As much as we read about ridiculous charges against people and the nanny state we live in overstepping its bounds, it's nice to read a case were the sheriff/DA seem to be human beings with brains rather than just bureaucratic machines.
- xythalia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3wow, when I was the same age, I did the same thing with a few friends (oddly enough, in third grade also). The police tracked each one of us down, talked to our parents, and told us either we get a citation and huge fine or around 30 hours of community service. We'll let the parents deal with it? No way, the kids either get their butt kicked or nothing happens to them at all. None of us have ever prank called emergency lines since. :p
note: that was only one call. the fire department said it got worse for multiple calls >_> - AeroZepp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"mommy...what do these buttons do?"
- echoforever, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4One of the most popular ways to explain a Freudian slip is "When you say one thing, but mean your mother"
- missflibbles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Whoa, guys, chill. Pretty sure Brindon is makin' some jokes there.
Come on, a lute? That's gotta be fake. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Back in the day a firm spanking would have straightened things out.
- greenmountain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It is likely Mom did not know a minute-less tracphone would access 911,
I did not know that.
A little phone is a fun pretend toy for a kid.
Mom likely taught her to dial 911, good mommies do that.
A kid yapping into a pretend phone would be unusual though right? Not.
Kids have conversations with coffee machines, teddy bears, trees, pets, the TV, dead gerbils, everything.
It is not like she was roaming the streets at night setting the neighborhood cats on fire.
Better not give her any ideas, though. - Domza, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4You know, I really wish sometimes that the boy who cried wolf would come true, and then to have Darwinism take over after that.
