- fpcyber, on 10/10/2007, -1/+33Teach that to girls who say "sure or maybe" all the time instead of a flat out NO, because they "didn't want to hurt the guy's feelings".
- santiago1, on 10/10/2007, -3/+23 I was going to digg this, but....no.
- huckdunsany, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15So.... go on many second dates?
- ICSU, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9or first...
- houndeyex, on 10/10/2007, -1/+101. Cut a hole in a box.
- theinept, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Maybe he's looking for a long term relationship, sharing ice cream, walks on the beach, cuddling and ultimately marriage?
- DoMifer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Because obviously, the previous poster was a rapist that only raped people based on misunderstanding... I know when I read "didn't want to hurt the guy's feelings," I immediately thought it was referring to sex as opposed to a relationship...
/sarcasm - MavRevMatt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+49. No, ***** you?
- Ninjab3ar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+32. Put yo junk in that box!
- JAXXXON, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Diggers here know a lot?
Diggers hear no a lot? - bocaJWho, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Two problems with this:
Part eight - never say sorry. People need to understand that sorry has two meanings, to express regret, or to express condolences i.e. 'I'm sorry to hear that' with the latter meaning, sorry fits fine into the mindset of being polite, it expresses an understanding of the importance of their request, but not that you feel responsible for it not being attended to.
Second, there is no option for the 'no, I think your request is a bad idea, here's why' This approach can save not only you, but a lot of other people time later on by having the requestor come up with something better to do with their time. Remember, they are probably going to ask someone else if you say no, and if it's a bad idea and the other person says yes, look how much time is wasted. - mal1964, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4No is easy when you have no money.no job, and no life.
- mal1964, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3If you don't want to wait until Xmas, take her to the movies and do the popcorn tub surprise. cut a hole in the bottom, set it on your lap and just wait.
- Synchro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I thought that was Nancy Reagan's catch phrase, not Barbara Bush.
- BillyBIanks, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Barbara Bush taught me how to "Just say no."
- futureisours, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What ever happened to just saying no. Let your reasons and motivations be a mystery. Makes you look more powerful.
- GeekyGerge, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23. Profit
- DoMifer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Right hands never say no...
- th3B3n, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What about "raised middle finger"? Surely that's gotta be one of the essentials. You don't even have to initiate conversation!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3It's okay... We're here with hugs and support. Hugs will fix anything.
- Hungryhaney, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Funny - I said "No!" to Barbara Bush. :-p
- thomasb227, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Freelance switch is manned by ***** hacks. Don't go there!
Dugg down immediately... - jtw3unc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Exactly. As in, "No, you didn't spell 'hear' correctly."
- Ihavethespeed, on 10/10/2007, -7/+8give that bitch five across the eye and that'll fix things quick.
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2you can apply these ideas to most jobs, and many situations in life.
- teh_techie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13. Make her open that box
(sheesh.. no one else realized it's from SNL?) - ProfessorRiffs, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2***** stupid. Just grow a pair and learn to say no. You don't need a goddam "how to" list for every aspect of life, people.
- manicallday, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The perfect "no."
So, Peter, what's happening? Now are you going to go ahead and have
those TPS reports for us this afternoon? Uh, yeah. So I guess we should probably go ahead and have a little talk,
hmm?
Not right now, Lumbergh. I'm, I'm kinda busy. In fact, I'm going to
have to ask you to go ahead and just come back another time. I have a
meeting with the Bobs in a couple of minutes....... - duerra, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Interesting. So, half of the strategies are to "defer" the request. And the others aren't really strategies to saying no at all.
- mt066, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I hate when people talk about how much they have "on their plate." Reminds me too much of meetings....
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If the request is not important, just say no what is hard about that?
- teh_techie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1immediately... as opposed to dugg down later?
- FriedTurkey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I see people do these strategies to get out of work all the time in the corporate world. Most of the time people know what you are doing with the passive aggressive strategies. Often the passive aggressive person knows that everybody knows that he/she is full of B.S. but often people don't want to create drama out of it. Most of these people switch jobs every 2 or 3 years before somebody can call them on their *****. In short these strategies work to get out of work but everyone knows you are an *****.
My only revenge on one of these ***** is that one tried to join up on my company. They asked me if we should hire him and I unequivocally gave a "No". I am sure he got a job ***** somewhere else. - TheSak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I think the latter is more likely correct.
- schneidafunk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0your mom taught me how to say no
- avisotin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Yeah, just tell that bitch "No, I don't want to ***** marry you! Shut the hell up!"
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0saying "OK" just walk away
- GerryBot, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4FSw are doing a sterling job at the moment, and this is top advice - your time is your most valuable asset. Knowing when to say NO to certain jobs shows that you value your time and will protect it.
- biggiddyblam, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Finally. A solution to my biggest problem in life. I can't tell you how often I agree to things I don't want to do because I don't want to disappoint my friends or co-workers.
- waynehoggett, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0Good list.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3I never say no, if you know what I mean.
- heypetray, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1This applies specifically to Freelance work, but still a decent list.
- acbeck58, on 10/10/2007, -4/+0"I'd love to, but..."

- iJessicaRabbit, on 10/10/2007, -5/+0Great find :)
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -8/+1hurt by his right hand.
- Waskonator, on 10/10/2007, -13/+1awww... somebody's been hurt in the past.
- the6thReplicant, on 10/10/2007, -19/+3or you can learn to say no to your dick...so maybe *you* should read the article too.
