Uh. This guy was a major douche. - vsaint, on 05/28/2009, -1/+103Excellent roll model, however.
- Geordae, on 05/27/2009, -2/+103Though it was risky for a seven year to get behind the wheel of a vehicle, that was a very a courageous thing for her to especially since she suffered minor bruises from the accident.
- Javindo, on 05/28/2009, -7/+93That guy was a terrible role model; I hate to be so blatent about it, but she's probably better off now he's dead. He was speeding, drinking and hadn't made them wear seatbelts. My parents have always insisted I wear one so now I do it second nature as soon as I enter a car.
- vsaint, on 05/28/2009, -1/+48I've never chased sake with beer but I'll try now.
- digmule, on 05/28/2009, -5/+51Future romance? Siblings separated at birth?
http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5 ... - mavar, on 05/28/2009, -1/+42Or rather, his children are going to pay the price for that. This is just sad.
- KenSPT, on 05/28/2009, -0/+38"They told investigators Montes had driven to Clovis to buy beer and was drinking while heading back to his home in Bovina."
That son of a bitch; this seriously pisses me off. It's one thing to be irresponsible and drive drunk when you're on your own, that's dangerous and reckless in and of itself, but the fact that he would drive while intoxicated with his two kids in the car is absolutely 100% inexcusable.
Normally I'd feel remorse in this situation, but this ***** got what he deserved. I do feel sorry for the kids though ... - wastelander, on 05/28/2009, -0/+37Very sad.
- joanabrooks, on 05/28/2009, -1/+34Yeah, a 7-year-old girl needs a mountain of courage to drive a wrecked Jeep that far..It's sad that in spite of her effort, her dad didn't make it...
- Autodidaddict, on 05/28/2009, -2/+31I hope they serve beer in hell
for your sake... - j0etb, on 05/28/2009, -0/+28The kids didn't though
- twiztidsinz, on 05/28/2009, -0/+22I think just about everyone I know has been six to eight years old at one point.
- shanealeslie, on 05/28/2009, -0/+21No Darwin award for him - he's had kids already, and one of them is already showing signs of competency and intelligence.
- bytor4232fb, on 05/28/2009, -8/+25Some of the bravest people I've ever met have been about six to eight years old. This girl will grow up knowing she was a hero.
It will be good for her ego ;) - P5ycHo, on 05/28/2009, -1/+18He paid the price for that.
- jjamminjon, on 05/28/2009, -5/+21Thanks Geordae for the generic press release statement, you've won yourself a Captain Obvious forhead sticker as well as a complimentary digg.
- dsoltesz, on 05/28/2009, -0/+16RTFA?
"Authorities say the girl's father, Guillermo Montes, 40, was speeding and lost control of his Jeep Cherokee going into a turn Saturday night."
"They told investigators Montes had driven to Clovis to buy beer and was drinking while heading back to his home in Bovina." - grandhi, on 05/28/2009, -0/+15you are a douche
- Syugo, on 05/28/2009, -1/+16I can't believe the dad would drink and drive, let alone with his children in the car.
I would like to say he got what he deserved, but then the children will be fatherless. - DAGman27, on 05/28/2009, -0/+15Pretty sure you don't get it.
- digitalpencil, on 05/28/2009, -1/+15not funny.
- KenSPT, on 05/28/2009, -0/+14Good for you and trying to defend a dude who was drinking and driving with his two children in the car.
Digg amazes me ... - Jhorra, on 05/28/2009, -0/+14Sad that she lost her father, and sad that he was an idiot who's action not only cost him his life, but cost his children their father.
- mason092, on 05/28/2009, -0/+12RTFA.
- Airbear007, on 05/28/2009, -0/+11Wow you are one heartless son of a bitch
- cygnus2112, on 05/28/2009, -0/+10Your parents also failed, latrosicarius.
- cquilliam, on 05/28/2009, -0/+9As a father of a 7-year old girl, this is amazing. While my daughter knows which one is the gas, which is the brake, and how to shift it into drive, she has a hard time seeing over the steering wheel and being able to reach the peddles at the same time.
And no, I don't try to get her to drive. She likes to pretend she's driving in a parked car like every kid. - cquilliam, on 05/28/2009, -3/+12My only question is..... was it a stick shift? THEN i'll be very impressed.
Seriously, how do those little legs reach? - buckrogers1965, on 05/28/2009, -0/+9At that age I remember being able to run full speed and just throw myself onto the ground and roll and get back up and keep running full speed. If I tried that now it would cripple me.
- Airbear007, on 05/28/2009, -2/+11Wow everyone is so quick to pass judgment on this guy. what he did was stupid dont get me wrong but to deserved death?...
- konsole1981, on 05/28/2009, -1/+9???
oh those crazy brits and their antipavement.... - dsoltesz, on 05/28/2009, -1/+9RTFA: "he was ejected in a rollover crash"
- KtownReject0358, on 05/28/2009, -1/+9Surprisingly they survived.
- j0etb, on 05/28/2009, -0/+7Damn. After reading the first paragraph I was going to make a joke of "Aaaaaaaaalbuquerque", but upon finishing reading the article I no longer feel like laughing. Poor lass.
- Jejagua, on 05/28/2009, -1/+7Why am I surprised the local authorities did not write the little girl a ticket? Isn't that how this works?
- AtomicTheory, on 05/28/2009, -1/+7I love you.
- PirateD00D, on 05/28/2009, -1/+7Everyone can be a parent, but not everyone is a good parent.
- knobbysideup, on 05/28/2009, -0/+6It's probably not so much bravery as a lack of experience with real pain. There's also being lightweight and bouncy.
- PandaBearShenyu, on 05/28/2009, -0/+6The dad sounds like... an irresponsible driver who caused every bit of the mess which he wrought. Drinking while driving, speeding, not putting seat belts on his two kids... it still would've been better if he answered to authorities... and not the grim reaper however.
- rmxz, on 05/28/2009, -1/+7Makes me wonder if 7-year-olds are able to accomplish a lot more than we give them credit for.
Perhaps if we taught them all to drive at 7, they'd be better drivers at 17. - megarobotguy, on 05/29/2009, -0/+5unrestrained = not buckled in
- inajeep, on 05/28/2009, -0/+5It goes on every day in every state and most likely country in the world. Believe it. I don't understand the stupidity of drinking and driving and not putting the kids in a car seat. This could just as easily been another DUI death story.
- jitterbits, on 05/28/2009, -0/+5Obviously, that is not always true, MWeather, or it would have been the little girl who crashed.
- jamesdew, on 05/28/2009, -0/+5mostly just because we have very few automatic cars.
- ladykba, on 05/28/2009, -11/+16Sweet little thing, bless her heart she must've been so scared for her daddy but she knew he needed help. that's a stand up kid right there.....As for the dad though, looks like natural selection did what it does best. divine intervention left those two precious kids barely scratched, hopefully they find care in someone who will keep them safe and loved.
- anixmander, on 05/28/2009, -0/+4I do feel sorry for them. They couldn't choose their dad. And people are rarely better off with a dead parent.
- Duggan360, on 05/28/2009, -1/+5Because you need a degree of skill to drive a manual, Driving an automatic is just like driving a go-kart
- SonicAD, on 05/28/2009, -1/+5Her father failed for DRINKING WHILE DRIVING
- LadyFizzGig, on 05/29/2009, -0/+4As much as I can agree with the sentiment, the poor girl lost her father. I don't think her ego will be very important in the long run. Stories like this break my heart. It might have even renewed a little of my faith in humanity, but alas the man was an ***** with nothing but his drinking habit in his heart.
I hope these kids are well taken care of. -
