- fdw2006, on 11/14/2007, -0/+21"People will live UP to or DOWN to the expectations you set. Set them high and you're saying, "I believe in your ability to do great things!"
This must be why all of the projects I work on have unrealistic deadlines. - doktorrocket, on 11/14/2007, -0/+18Very true. That's why I give out hope for free the first time, then once they're hooked on hope, I make them pay dearly for it.
- loganhid, on 11/14/2007, -0/+16or sharks with frickin lazer beams on their heads
- jikai55, on 11/14/2007, -0/+13I thought it was going to be along the lines of, 'Claim you are man-god' and 'Don't be afraid to use the whip', but I was proven wrong.

It has the word "empowerment" in it, for *****'s sake. - 471776, on 11/14/2007, -0/+9Does everything always have to be political all the time?

- rawdog79, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2I was hoping this would involve an army of winged monkey-men :-/
- nixr, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2The difference is that bad leaders merely use the buzzwords where true leaders never have to mention them at all. The problem is there are a whole lot more bad leaders than good ones.
- inactive, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2This list is only for powerful leaders—is there one for ruthless powerful leaders?
- AKBryant54, on 11/14/2007, -2/+4Is that a serious question?
- aelias, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2I hear this ***** monthly in our meetings. I wanted to claw my ears out after month two. Now I just stare at the wall and filter the good bits. Secret to becoming a powerful leader? Be really cool on a personal and professional level. People follow the person they want to be. How's that for simple?
- TantrooM, on 11/14/2007, -1/+2#4 has some contradictions I feel.
Be positive at all times AND commit to improve.
Doesn't committing to improve no being positive? Because if you see that your team could do better it is not a positive thing. So shouldn't you be positive when needed, and negative when it is essential for a grip of reality. If you are positive when things are bad because you don't want to hurt morale, and people find out how bad things are then what will that do to your credibility? - finista, on 11/14/2007, -2/+3"I'll keep it short and sweet. Family. Religion. Friendship. These are the three demons you must slay if you wish to succeed in business."
- TwilightShadow, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1I think being positive simply means to take a proactive stance on all things, not simply telling yourself you're the greatest. Acknowledge problems, but look for ways to solve them. That's being positive. Being negative means finding a problem and running around telling everyone how big it is.
- Typhoon2009, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1I don't know man, I got a lot of applause from my Spanish class when I announced my candidacy for Supreme Commanding Captain General Chief Officer of the United States. Speak loudly, speak proudly, and don't forget your accents.
- mikesbaker, on 11/14/2007, -1/+2those techniques are only good in the short term but in the end are self defeating
- cnot3, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1Ah, good, now I can rule with an iron fist...
- SeventhShoelace, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1 Haha, if he doesn't I wish him the best of luck with his bankruptcy.
- SeventhShoelace, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1 Although you are correct; it has been proved many times that if a cult is more your thing (rather then a real institution) "Claim you are man-god", has worked really well.
:P - inactive, on 11/14/2007, -0/+18. Kill all those who oppose or question you.
- DumbLittleMan, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1And I call myself Dumb Little Man....here's proof that there is always someone a little dumber. Unless that's his ex-girlfriends number, in that case he's pretty bright.
- ShrimpCrackers, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1Probably not him, just a third party victim.
- gijoel, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1First you get the sugar, then you get the power, then you get the whee-men.
- AmeLum, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1Just reading it has depressed me, does nothing in life come naturally any more and is there a master plan for being a great loser?
- jessehadden, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1Seven whole things I have to hold in my head? Some of them with sub-parts and details? Screw that. I'll just go for the "tell everyone they're being attacked, and that I can keep them safe, but only if I'm the boss of them & all their stuff" tactic. Much easier.
- devaney16, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1You have to wave your arms and pound your fists many times, so as to emphasize your point.
Blood alone moves the wheels of history! - nixr, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1You forgot:
#8 ????
#9 Profit - brjndr, on 11/14/2007, -1/+1Arnold Schwarzenegger's got a few of those.
- TantrooM, on 11/14/2007, -1/+1So andrew is that really your # or is that your recent ex's number that you wish to extract vengeance upon?
- Gaiusworld, on 11/14/2007, -0/+0Great article, useful and informative!

- Darph.Bobo, on 11/14/2007, -2/+1Step 8. Breed sharks with freakin' laser beams.
- indyGuy, on 11/14/2007, -4/+2Very strong list.
- mikesbaker, on 11/14/2007, -3/+1management 101here - they did leave out part of motivating - praise publicly and correct privately
- SeventhShoelace, on 11/14/2007, -2/+0 Very good list. Although looking at it; it may seem obvious, it needs to be written and is something that could be used as a key reference list to an aspiring leader.
