- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -5/+91Great, another waste of taxpayer money.
- 9ofclubs, on 10/10/2007, -5/+73Man this grandma was obviously a terrorist and a national threat requiring the resources of the state to take her in and and jail her. The homeland is safer because this pot smoking criminal is in jail. Im going to go back to watching FOX news and not thinking now.
- fr0ng, on 10/10/2007, -7/+57I don't know what is worse...the war on drugs or the war on terrorism..
- NikoKun, on 10/10/2007, -3/+38hmmm... Well, one is a 70 year war on our country's own people... While the other is a foolish war on a non-entity of fear, a fear created by our government themselves...
I personally lean toward the war on drugs being worse, just because how long it's been going on and how many people in our country that it's hurt... but it's still a tough choice... They are both bad, and both need to be ended, for the good of everyone. - EuphopiaB, on 10/10/2007, -3/+30How dare she smoke marijuana in the privacy of her own home without involving anyone else on her own supply.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24What? Last week I was car jacked by a 67 year old woman who was high as a ***** kite. She got my new iPhone as well!!!
/sarcasam - meepus, on 10/10/2007, -5/+28The summary is misleading because a bong was found inside the house. I'm not saying that cannabis shouldn't be legal, because that's certainly my belief. However, with it in mind that the woman had a bong, she certainly wasn't trying to keep away animals: that cannabis was getting smoked.
- mexicanman07, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22they should just legalize it. It would solve so many of our problems
- MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20Doesn't it currently cost American taxpayers like 13-14 billion dollars annually to keep it illegal and keep the "bloodthirsty criminals" in jail?
I mean seriously, when I first tried marijuana, my first thought was, "Is that what the government is ***** bitching about?"
I am not going to say its completely harmless, but I will say it's safer than alcohol and tobacco. - NikoKun, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20Well, somehow I think her excuse is a little of '*****'... because, although cannabis tends to outgrow weeds, and isn't eaten by pests... It's not like those pests can't just eat around it and still get at the rest of her garden. lol If I'm wrong about that, someone correct me, I'd like to know. XD
EVEN SO, Who the hell is she hurting by growing it? regardless of her reasons... it's just a little plant.
Why do our cops/prosecutors think arresting little old ladies is a good use of their time? (not to mention taxes, as Ajajadude said)
And maybe a better question would be... Why isn't the public MORE outraged by these events, it's not like this is the first time this has happened... Wake up American, enough is enough! - Scarfy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Is there a reason not to be dramatic about our government's meaningless wars?
- TomK88, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Thank god! We need to keep dangerous potheads off the streets!
;) - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16What a ***** waste of public resources. *****, anyone with a 3rd grade education can see that spending the man power, and financial resources to prosecute this woman is RETARDED. And in fact makes the community less safe since the man power directed to this could be used to actual help or prevent a real crime or victim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- hobonetweaver, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16What if the law is silly, outdated, ineffective, expensive & wasteful, harmful to individuals & society, misdirecting law enforcement, clogging our courts, and filling our prisons with harmless otherwise law-abiding citizens?
Still no? We better do something about that then. - flameboy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15I think this instance involving an old woman just underscores the stupidity of the law for everyone.
- vornan19, on 10/10/2007, -3/+142006-71+25=1960.
Hmm.
Go go groovy Grandma! - thedragon4453, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11The war on common sense we've been waging for decades.
- devoted, on 10/10/2007, -5/+15so she grew her own supply in her own yard...who the ***** does it bother??? just legalize it (http://tinyurl.com/38ck29 ) already!!!!
- tehpwnrate, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Definitely the war on drugs. It's useless. If we took the War on Terror back to OEF levels and concentrated on outside stuff instead of wasting time with TSA crap and wiretapping US citizens, it would be a very good thing.
- TomK88, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10The point is the law is stupid...
Also, how would "throwing the book" at a 71-year old grandma benefit society at all? - reeder, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13Just worthless beyond belief. 10% of our population is insane, thusly a 71 year old woman is in jail.
Way to go America! - ShnowDoggie, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11If she is 71, and in good health, shouldn't she just keep doing what got her there in the first place?
- TomK88, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9And just because YOU think the law is right does not make it so.
The War on Drugs has failed miserably, whether you agree with drug use or not. It is ridiculously costly, ineffective, and one of the biggest failures in American policy history.
From a philosophical standpoint, how can the government decide what you can or can't put in your own body? How would you feel if the government said McDonald's was bad for you and said they you are no longer allowed to eat it or you will spend the next 10 years of your life in prison alongside murderers and rapists? - flameboy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11The point that shes 71 just emphasizes the fact that its stupid to begin with. Nobody thinks old people shouldnt be held accountable, but when a 71 yr old gets arrested for something this stupid - clearly not a threat to herself or society - dont you think its good to take a look at our current legislation?
- shinynew, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Hey i found one!
- shadeOgrey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I'll agree that animal repellent wasn't the best excuse, but you're still an ***** deltabourne.
- skyfire1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Sadly, this kind of sarcasm isn't funny anymore.
- CarloLedbetter, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Manufacturing and Felony Possession on North Carolina

Sweet Jesus on a pogo stick. - patm1987, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I'm Christian and I believe marijuana should be legalized. Was there a prize or reward for this?
- stormgren, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Wait, it hasn't been legalized, because it's illegal? Why is it illegal in the first place?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7This reminds me sth funny I've seen before: Is your Mom this cool? [PIC]http://www.linkinn.com/_Is_your_Mom_this_cool_PIC
- KAZVorpal, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7For those who are complaining that old people should have to follow the law, too:
First, we should never treat with respect any unjust law, or we become an accomplice to it.
Second, the excuses for banning marijuana all center around things (mostly lies) which CANNOT apply to a 71 year old woman:
She's not gonna go crazy and beat people up, she's not gonna rob liquor stores to get the money to finance her habit, she's not gonna become a less productive member of society, and somehow I doubt that it's gonna leader her to heavier drugs, which will then result in her beating people up, robbing liquor stores, and/or becoming less productive. - neo1513, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Marijuana temperance was a little bit of a side project during the entire prohibition period. The majority of prohibition's strongest supporters were christians. Im not saying that the church is to fully blame for marijuana being illegal, but along with the mexican racism and crazy cotton farmers, it helped.
- monkiboi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Grandma made the best brownies this weekend.
- shinynew, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6wait wait wait, slow down.
you have an iphone? - theholycow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Maybe not, but the US government has every reason to deflate that number and no reason to inflate it, yet they come up with 12 billion. Another report from the same government with the same motivations estimates it at 45.5 billion for 2005:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_on_drugs#Cost
From http://www.whitehousedrugpolicy.gov/publications/policy/06budget/06budget.pdf
In total, recommended funding for FY 2006 is $12.4 billion, an increase of $268.4 million (+2.2 percent) over the FY 2005 enacted level of $12.2 billion (Figure 1).
Nobody has more reason to minimize the reported cost than the government, but they say it costs 12 billion. That makes it quite credible to say that it costs 14 billion. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Wow, I thought you were serious until I saw the "/sarcasam" (sic) line.
- CarbonAndroid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Another victory in the land where freedom reigns. The freedom of the few to rule the many.
- CiXeL, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5toss seeds everywhere.
make it so prolific that its one of america's most common weeds - code2joy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5LEGALIZE IT
- TomK88, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6When you factor in the funding of the DEA and money it costs to prosecute and incarcerate marijuana-users...it could easily hit and surpass that mark.
- TomK88, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Unfortunately democracy in America is flawed because of maniacs like fundamentalist Christians. Not trying to pick on them, but they are one of the most influential groups that have caused so much harm to the USA.
- AnimalFever, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It's a shame you have to directly state you were being sarcastic. It sort of ruins the humor, but in a world like this, I guess it's necessary....
- naldwell, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Why do they call it manufacturing? In New Zealand we call it cultivation, and 'manufacturing' only applies if you are using a chemical agent to strip the oil from the plant material.
- CiXeL, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5"cannabis tends to outgrow weeds"
this is why we need to plant it EVERYWHERE
if it becomes so expensive to eradicate because its planted everywhere they will have to legalize it or at least turn a blind eye on it.
people should throw seeds in empty fields, between houses where no one goes, around train tracks
anywhere that gets little foot traffic.
the plant will spread and spread and be everywhere.
the amount it would cost to wipe out all the plants would take so much money they could never get their hands on a suitable amount. - Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Too bad many members of our police force who have been a part of our "war on drugs" have said how much of a waste of money it is to target weed smokers.
- TwoTones, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Well, I'll be able to sleep a little better tonight knowing that these types of hardcore criminals are being taken off of the street.
- halavais, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Uh, maybe she doesn't like to get into the whole smokeshop & dealers crowd. She's a DIY type, clearly: grows her own pot, makes her own bongs, probably does a little cross-stitch while high.
- lastrite, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4How dare she chose a vice that isn't taxed :O
- NitrousFlare, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It's more than 10%..
