http://www.explosm.net/comics/1681/ - MrWally, on 11/09/2009, -0/+27"Only the population of elderly will have exploded..."
If only...
Could get kind of messy, though. - rockon4life45, on 11/09/2009, -0/+24If we extended our lives I somehow doubt that we would be old for the extended portion. We'd probably just be young longer, middle aged longer, and old longer.
- rocknog, on 11/10/2009, -0/+20People treat aging and mortality separately, but it is the aging process in itself that is responsible for our mortality. In order to significantly increase our lifespan, must significantly decrease the rate of aging - we must prevent the process that leads to the body breaking down in the first place. I mean, even today, look at the oldest people around - they tend to be fairly healthy throughout their later years. If you become feeble and infirm at age 70, you're probably not going to live to be 110.
- EliteBeat, on 11/10/2009, -3/+17I'm just going to say it. Robots should not have rights. They will always only be pretending to feel pain and what not. They will only care if we tell them to care.
- edwartica, on 11/09/2009, -0/+10We're all doomed! Doomed! Doooooooomed!
- scott1, on 11/10/2009, -0/+10What about the Temporal Prime Directive?
- covertbadger, on 11/10/2009, -3/+13"Ron Paul is big on state's rights"
It cracks me up when people defend Paul on these grounds. Look at it this way - Ron Paul thinks it should be legal for states to be able to discriminate based on genetic information. It doesn't MATTER whether Paul himself agrees or disagrees with this discrimination - the important thing is that he thinks states should be allowed to discriminate if they so choose. This is despicable. It's tantamount to saying states should be able to legalise slavery, segregation, or introduce the death penalty for homosexuality. No state should have that sort of power. Ron Paul would be the most dangerous man in American politics, if anyone at all actually cared what the racist crackpot says. - techdever, on 11/10/2009, -0/+8"Experts say sex robots will be on the market by 2050."
Where do I apply to become an expert in that? - techdever, on 11/10/2009, -1/+9Law # 11 - * YOU'RE
- Iceman21, on 11/10/2009, -0/+8Mandatory Lifespan Limits?
***** off. - MisterChase, on 11/09/2009, -0/+7The "Mandatory Life Span Limits" would create a massive black market for the life-extending treatments, and would be effective only for those who couldn't afford the treatment from underground providers who charge inflated, extortionist black-market prices, or travel to other countries to get the treatment.
- and101, on 11/10/2009, -0/+7Who would be brave enough to apply to become a beta tester?
- neoquietus, on 11/10/2009, -1/+6Eventually we will be able to design android brains that replicate human feelings beyond our ability to detect. At that point, how do you decide if it truly has feelings or not?
- michelelmx, on 11/10/2009, -2/+7 Law # 10 - If your over 170 years old you have to live in a condominium on the moon.
- Hellicus, on 11/09/2009, -0/+4Dugg for Lordi.
- mishabear, on 11/10/2009, -0/+4Wasn't that the premise of Logan's Run?
- gridbread, on 11/10/2009, -0/+4Population control will definitely be an upcoming issue, and China has been a nice little demo.
I think a lot about of these things in my spare time, especially the annoyingly gleeful encouragement of procreation floating around, when it's easily going to be one of our biggest problems in the future.
Argue all your hallmark interpretations of the beauty of life and cute babies, but when vital resources become extremely strained and life becomes a desperate struggle over the most basic things, you'll be doing a disservice bringing a child into a horrible world. - gfryesc, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3usually when someone says 'there oughtta be a law', there really oughtn't be. Most of these laws would run afoul of the privacy clause that roe v wade found in the constitution [after going unnoticed for 200 years]. Being pro choice means all reproductive choice, even those that aren't in the political correctness stable. The precedent has already been cut.
- jrm125, on 11/10/2009, -1/+4What whacky political parties will filibuster these, I wonder.
- ricksite, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3People flipped out at the introduction of GM potatoes. I have a feeling there will be a lot of pressure to ban anything with the word 'genetic' in it.
- chrisduser, on 11/10/2009, -4/+7Ron Paul is big on state's rights. So it is only natural that he would vote against something that he thinks each state should decide.
- danimal317, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Dugg for Al Davis.
- TobiasParker, on 11/10/2009, -6/+9We Don't need laws at all.
- dublea2, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Cloning; So if an exact clone of yourself was made, and you had sex with yourself, would it be considered masturbation or a homosexual act?
- fadeout, on 11/10/2009, -4/+6Ugh. keep making excuses for his retarded votes because you don't want to see him for what he is, buddy.
Did he vote against the Rosa Parks commemorative coin but for the Boy Scout commemorative coin because of "states rights?" - stompk291, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2rippppp. oh god no!! ahhhhhhhh!
- merdok, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Hey I'd do alpha tests, sign me up!
- sipsyrup, on 11/11/2009, -0/+2I still have the maturity of a 10 year old... does that count?
- fadeout, on 11/10/2009, -2/+4The USA already has a genetic anti-discrimination law.

Digg's favorite crazy racist uncle, Ron Paul, was the only person in Congress that voted against it. - LarkStew, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Hard... Rock... HALLELUJAH!
- DrHoliday, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2"And that's good, because it seems likely that some rich guy will eventually try to grow a clone for spare parts (or an opposite sex clone for the ultimate in heterosexual narcissism) and when he fails to get caught, a few others will try."
Kanye West/Female!Kanye West? - nepidae, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Don't Date Robots!
- Ballchinian, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Robots are tools. To consider the feelings of them is illogical. We can design them to look and act like people, so we start to have feelings for them. It demonstrates how superficial we can be as humans. It shows how obsolete tolerance will become. Stupid hippies of 2029.
- Hood15, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1off topic observation: ad at the bottom was for geek dating, guessing the results of going there through a digg link :/
- mcs699, on 11/11/2009, -0/+1What a bunch of statist *****. Yay! More excuses for governmental power and bureaucratic mess. I wouldn't want to live so long that it causes trouble for the government!

http://www.myspace.com/schafferthedarklord
I've seen the the future so bright I gotta wear shades
and its hotter than hades and everyone will have AIDS
and robot brigades at war with the humans
machine against man and the planet's in ruins
but by then we will have mastered the craft
of creating clone soldiers so we won't have to come out of hiding
fighting and we might just outlast this battle without time travel back to the past
as some of the cloners grow older
narcissistic fiends like will take over
and once I'm trained unsupervised and alone,
I'm gonna ***** my clone
My sci-fi fantasy will begin innocently;
making clones which look just like me will get boring,
so I'll get curious and horny and I'll sneak one of my clones back to my room
in the janitors basket hidden in with the brooms
I'll clean him up and dress him and I'll make him look sharp.
He's so god damn cute I think I'll name him Mark
Oh my! look at my new toy! He'll be my best friend, lover and houseboy.
And we'll take it slow the first time then I'll do whatever whenever I want 'coz he's mine.
I'll ply him with liquor, but just little sips and oh how I'd like to kiss his big luscious lips,
even though he's a guy and even though I'm not gay I'm so vain I'll be ***** my own clone all day.
(OK, I'm bored with this, someone else transcribe) - Stormwern, on 11/10/2009, -1/+1The odds of robots becoming alive and sentient are pretty slim, far more likely we'll map human physiology to the point where we realize we're just robots :P
- LarkStew, on 11/10/2009, -7/+4Do you feel pain? I think you're just pretending.
- pLuhhmm, on 11/10/2009, -8/+11) ***** a Wall-E future
2) Hooray for crazy religious people
3) And screw living in the future, its all one big Sci-fi movie. - Hood15, on 11/10/2009, -11/+1Law #12 - Nobody gives a *****, stop wasting your time trying to make people look stupid.
