- iomegaboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+42That is just plain irresponsible. Having a baby when you're 67 is about as safe as having one when you're 10. Major risk of defects and deformities to the children rise abruptly after a woman turns 40.
- Chakz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+34Not only that, what about the fact that these kids are going to have to deal with losing a mother at a young age?
- devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23@iomegaboy and chakz
You guys are totally right... this kind of situation is almost certainly harmful to the children, or at least harm is so likely that any rational, loving person would not conceive of doing it.
And I'd love to say "Well, she wanted to have kids... and now she has some, great" but really she's been able to have kids for 50 years. Choosing to do it now is a terrible, foolish thing to do.
@liquidjamm
I'm sure it depends on the woman, but 35 sounds a bit young, I'd lean towards 40. - chrisrad, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Exactly, she'll be 80 by the time the kids are teenagers.
Dead before they are even able to support themselves? Nice work. - Junkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Brest feeding, or should I say recurring nightmare.
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13No to mention the psychological harm those kids will have by having to suck on those 67 year old wrinkled tities.
- Chakz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10On a side note, Digg has a new feature where you click the title of the article and Voila! an article pops up.
- jwaddell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I just love starting the intro with "holy crap!". My reaction exactly! The major media should write like that.
- netdroid9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+867 year olds evidently get more action than you two ever will.
- Fowz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I love this...man the digg community knows just about everything.
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Umm....with bacon and toast?
- liquidjamm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10I could be wrong - but I always thought it was 35. Any experts here?
- Chakz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You were the sperm donor?
- leoedin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5RTFA - it was IVF - she voluntarily underwent expensive treatment to plant fertilised eggs in her womb - she WANTED twins!
- ne0shell, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8probably the guy from "68 year old Spanish man gets an erection!"
- Geekbeard, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6RTFA. IVF = invitro fertilization
Anyway, I just have to say that this is unnatural and irresponsible. The doctors who do these types of things should be banned from practicing medicine.
... but that's just me. - Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I dunno.... how old's Selma Hyack (sp?)
- nagumi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3RTFA, jackass. In Vitro.
- diggduggjoe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5FTA, she used IVF so it is not her egg. The babies should be fine. Although, there is a greater chance she will die when they are young, many children are orphaned due to car crashes or other events. She is in Spain with plenty of social programs and she had the funds for IVF and a trip to South America, so they kids should be well taken care of.
Would I do it? No. However, I see nothing evil about it. - cgjamj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@ liquidjam
I believe what you are referring to is that a woman with no previous children has a more difficult time conceiving after 35 and the chance of difficulties/birth defects also goes up. But iomegaboy is also correct. After 40, the chances of defects increases significantly.
I'm very familiar with a lot of this including IVF. My wife and I did IVF three times this year and in June got pregnant with twin boys, which were due in Feb 07. She went into preterm labor last month and delivered them on 11/10. One lived for 12.5 hours, the other for 13 days (he died on Thanksgiving). I'm still in complete shock that it happened to us - my wife is only 28! We did everything so cautiously to make it safe for those babies. The last several weeks before they were born, my wife mostly sat on the couch with her laptop and surfed the net and watched tv. She was hospitalized almost two weeks before they were born to keep her on permanent bed rest because she was showing strong signs of preterm labor. We wanted them SO badly and were more excited than I can put into words that we were having twins.
I have no idea why this woman wanted any child at 67 years old. I am more surprised that any fertility doctor would even do it. The doctor we went to would definitely not have helped this woman because of her age. I guess things are different over there. Oh well, thanks for listening. - c0r3file, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The doctors knew she was going into labor when her dust broke.
/sorry - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4From the article:
"The unnamed woman who was giving birth for the first time is one year older than Romanian Adriana Iliescu who had a baby girl in January aged 66.
OMG.that's an OLD baby. I wonder how old the mother was! - n3tfury, on 10/12/2007, -1/+367 is way too old to be having kids. it's sad to think that these kids will probably be burying their mom when they are teens.
- Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now, the Spanish woman had twins.
In ~10 years, the twins will have no Spanish woman.
Good or bad? - nagumi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1actually she was 66, the romanian.
- nagumi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1woooooooooow. you're a ***** jackass.
- phenolholic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wtf is she producing babies for. go die you parasite
- jerbaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's good to see that she was thinking of the welfare of her children. If she lives to the average life expectancy of women these days her children will be 9 years old when she dies. What a *****.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"The children, should they make it past their first birthdays, are expected to wear football helmets for the rest of their short lives."
- macaddct1984, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes, she used IVF, but just to enlighten the digg community, the estimated statistics for Trisomy 21 (aka Downs Syndrome) are this:
Age 30: 1 in 800 births
Age 35: 1 in 400 births
Age 40: 1 in 60 births
Age 49: 1 in 11 births

- FoxFaction, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, that's like twice as nasty.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, what do you expect. The father is 98 years old.
- albybum, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Salma Hayek born 2 September 1966
- dolphumous, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How the hell does this lady still have eggs?
- nicnic77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Congratulations.
- blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Senator?
- reklus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2YES!!! I sure as hell would rather not be born than born to a mom that'll probably break a hip giving birth to me!
- remakeru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Old people going crazy... sorry to say that, but wth didn't she get a baby when she was up to ... :)
But, shes not the only one, an female from Romania had a child(girl) last year at the age of 67.
here's an link. but you can also search google:

"3!"
"Aren't you adorable kids!, where is your mother?"
"Oh, she was too old and died of natural cause!" - MiDri, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That is so creepy!!!
- TULKUP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope she has younger relatives to help raise these boys. She probably used a 20 something year old's eggs and a 20 something year old's sperm to have those healthy? boys. It is more dangerous, healthwise to be the child of a 67 year old man. http://ageofthefatherandhealthoffuture.blogspot.com/
- siszam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You know, some things are none of our business. I mean really, it's none of our business how old someone is when they have a child. It's none of our business if someone decides to have one or fifteen children. I don't know what possesses busy body people to think you know better than this lady how she should live her life. I bet the same hypocrites who support abortion think they can criticize someone for making their own choices in other ways.
Bottom line, this doesn't concern us. Besides, in bible times women much older than this had children.
You can have a child at 20 and die the next day you know. None of us know when we will die. This lady could live thirty more years. - Jowitz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ha! It turns out I know the IVF doctor who did this. Strange, very rich, Italian man. When I read this article, I thought of him because I heard he was disliked by many in the IVF community for impregnating older women, and it turns out it was him. Interesting.
- Chakz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Placenta Jam
Made you picture it! - flaflashr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0She must have been a MILF to somebody
- PhreedomX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Makes grannies all around a lot more arousing after this piece of news.
- Fhwqhgads, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1She's old enough to be their great grandmother.
- cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2What... afraid of all the sawdust, cobwebs, and wrinkles? Grow up! You have NO idea what she looks like. You haven't seen hottie seniors? It can happen.
- countrygirl31, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0yeah not to mention getting up in the middle of the night and all the things you gotta do...older people are in bed by 8pm...
just think how much in common she will have with the babies...
