We started to use them around 10 months and at about 14 months she would do them.
It makes her really happy when she looks at us and does the bottle sign and we give her the bottle. The best sign is the sleep one - she does it when she wants to go to sleep. The other day at a family gather she came up to me and did the sleep sign and I took her and laid her down. She closed her eyes and went to sleep for an hour - no crying or anything. All the other parents had over tired crying kids and where amazed that mine knew she was tired and wanted a rest and most importantly was able to communicate it to me.
It is really nice to know what your kids want.
