- Renton, on 10/11/2007, -1/+24Who needs Maya and Photoshop when you got glowsticks and a camera capable of taking long exposures?
- Puppetfunk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8That is why you fail.
- will-rom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7shockwave... FTL
- ummagummas08, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9How did they get the glowsticks in there, but not the people?
- marm0t, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Someone who wants to make more than glowing squiggly lines?
- caseyd, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8you all have just experienced what it is like to be on ecstasy. these pictures are pretty cool.
- slimdizzy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9very cool, sparklers on steroids!
- B3nno, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6They're not really tagging anything, per say. If it lowers the amount of graffiti around my town, then I'm all for it.
- BitBurner, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8More...better 3D
http://www.pipslab.nl/graf/ - cosmicg, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8Reminds me a bit of...
http://faculty.sxu.edu/~rabe/bodhgaya/picasso.jpg - DeFex, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5because the camera shutter time is very long, so the person moving around is invisible. you would be visible if you stood still. kind of like in "wink of an eye" ST TOS geek reference.
- Sanitarium, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Here's my attempt at it:

Shutterspeed: 5 seconds - Coven, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4um, roophies?
and what the ***** does this have to do with the artciel? - adcuz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Time lapse photography? that's not time lapse, it's long exposure.
A full tutorial on how to do this:
http://adcuz.co.uk/how-to-articles/how-to-light-painting/ - MrBabyMan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I'm ashamed that I get that reference.
- pault107, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I agree. I saw the pipslab site a few years back and it blew my mind.
- xpankrat, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3This requires some knowledge of Russian, but it's way cooler, because
it's done by bored mountain climbers ... and it is also quite rude :)

And here's the explanation of what the word means -

- nicktripp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Like this?

Not a sparkler, but the LED mini flashlight on my keychain. Same effect. :) - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Graffiti that actually has some thought behind it done by someone with artistic talent I can appreciate. Two minute tags thrown up where ever make the neighborhood look like ***** and more ghettofied.
- BitBurner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2its cool they used multiple cameras and you can choose what camera to look through and the tags are floating around the kings.
- PetroSan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2cool, but am I the only one who thinks this isn't graffiti or tagging because the art does not remain where you make it? just seems like everyone should refer to as something other than graffiti [note the Light Painting references in a few comments above]
- xpankrat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yep, I was about to link to the same phote.
Done with a piece of hot coal if I remember correctly. - MrBabyMan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yes, of course you're right. I used the wrong term there.
- Instigator, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2would be awesome, except for the ***** music.
- zeromancer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i heard it was called 'photography'
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photography - mattcoady, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The problem with these is choosing which one will be my desktop wallpaper.

- Modizzle, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1WWWWS - What would Wil Wheaton say?
- tealeaves, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1eh. I digg for the creativity of using objects in the graffiti, but I've seen and done this before. fun photos though.
- tokyosugar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Here is a Japanese site that has been doing the same thing for some time now- check it out: http://tochka.jp/pikapika/
Very cool stuff. - MarkOfTheDead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1that guy should bring a game proposal to nintendo for the wii.
....i mean, i'd buy it... - adcuz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Hahaha. Oh wow.
Idiot. - theelectricafro, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1My photographically inclined friends do this with sparklers and good digital cameras. It makes a great picture when you write out your own name with the sparkler under your pic.
- yoshitomi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I'm going to try it, too. I'm just wondering how he's powering those things? Some of those aren't battery powered, they're what you put in your computer.
- Stitzu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1When the people aren't standing still for long enough the camera isn't really given a chance to capture them, so they just show up as a faint blur, however the light from the glow sticks is obviously a lot more intense and therefore has a better chance of being captured in the photo.
- Sil369, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Do they last for a few seconds/minutes? This is like the iPod commericals... drag the iPod, and streaks of light follow.
Does anyone have a video of it in action? - dkraeer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I could be wrong, but i think you would have to wear black from head to toe. If the shutter is open for a long time, any bit of light would make a mark on the "film", just like the entire streak of light is visible. If you wear black, then you aren't reflecting much light, or at least not as much as the background the camera will pick up when you move. Your black silhouette is filled in with the background as soon as you move.
- Jambon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I also did something like that, except with stoplights.
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/37535176/ - cbreaker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Just FYI on that comment - you don't need a digital camera to do this - any film does exactly the same thing when exposed. Of course, with a digital, you can see results immediately and would be able to try many, many times to get it right.
It would be damned amazing if they did this with film, but it's not any less cool with a DSLR. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Indeed.
- lightningrod220, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Am I a complete loser if I get that reference?
- AnotherOpinion, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That's a cool way of thinking about it.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Oh how I love graffiti of all kinds.
Long exposure ftw. - heynoop, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1light painting is so much fun. even picasso enjoyed it :)

its much the same thing, but with fire - MrDys, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Long-exposures were the inspiration, sure, but the effects in the video were likely handled by something like the 3D Stroke plugin: http://www.trapcode.com/products_3dstroke.html
- readerr0, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1They actually did stuff like this in the RHCP video fortune faded. Whats interesting about that though is how they did it while moving around the still exposures.
