Prediction #13: Strawberries as Large as Apples will be eaten by our great-great-grandchildren for their Christmas dinners a hundred years hence.

Unintentional copy & paste duplicates were much less common on a frickin typewritter. - tomboy501, on 10/12/2007, -3/+125It's real. http://paleo-future.blogspot.com/2007/04/what-may-happen-in-next-hundred-years.html
These predictions are great. This one is a mystery though:
Prediction #16: There will be No C, X or Q in our every-day alphabet. They will be abandoned because unnecessary.

- bennybertow, on 10/12/2007, -3/+81Well, it's here. The internets is the series of tubes! And you can buy digital wares and they will be delivered...
- flernk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+75I predict that by 2100, strawberries will be the size of pumpkins. Pumpkins will be the size of cars.

ROTFLOL!! WTF - JackSeoul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+51tomboy501: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_spelling_reform - lots of historical figures have proposed this. The predictor simply figured one of them would have enough influence to make it happen.
- Wonderkind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+50He was totally wrong about the elimination of rats and mice.

If you click on the picture of the article there and read the actual text, you will see that the duplicate prediction is not present. It was just a *****-up by whoever transcribed it from the original scan into text. I would have to say that it certainly appears to be legitimate.
It's actually pretty amazing how many of those predictions were at least somewhat accurate, though sometimes not exactly in the way described. Almost all of them were semi-correct.
1: US population = 350,000,000
2: Americans are taller and actually live even longer than the predictions for the reasons given. They were way off about the fare, though.
3: PE is mandatory in most schools and pretty much every school I've ever seen has a gym (and possibly a weight room for the sports teams)
4: Nope, traffic is worse than ever. There are subway/elevated trains but still a cubic buttload of cars too. They got the cushioned wheels part right, though (pneumatic tires).
5: Some trains run that fast and faster. They were correct on a/c too.
6: Automobiles are everywhere. Don't know about cheaper than a horse, though, unless you're talking thoroughbreds.
7: Not really airships (blimps and dirigibles) but we do have airplanes and they do compete well with surface transport.
8: Aerial warships and forts on wheels? Airplanes/Helicopters and tanks. Other predictions in this were were also pretty accurate.
9: Photographs "telegraphed" from any distance. check. Photographs in color, check.
10: see and hear around the world = live television
11: We only wish there were no mosquitoes and flies
12: Not true per se, but some of it might be theoretically possible via genetic engineering.
13: See number 12
14: Again, see number 12
15: Most food is kept either sealed in plastic or refrigerated/frozen
16: txt spk
17: Scholarships for college make it possible to get a free or cheap education. Most public schools and public health departments do provide some free medical care for needy students. Likewise free/discounted lunch programs. School buses offer free transport to and from school for almost all children.
18: dead-on. Check
19: TV and video provide long-distance concerts (some theaters even show them live that way thanks to digital projection). Pianos haven't really change but electronic keyboards fit the piano prediction nicely.
20: Not entirely accurate but coal isn't used much for heating homes any more. It's far from exhausted though. We've also harnessed a fair amount of hydro power and have started tapping wave power. I believe the Russians have been in the news recently with plans for a 20 gigawatt wave/tidal power station.
21: Not technically from spigots, but I'd say central heat and air is just that.
22: Purchases by tube: well, the internet has been called a series of tubes. And as someone else pointed out you CAN purchase software over it and have it delivered digitally. And they DID say something about automobiles distributing the purchases from house to house. UPS anyone?
23: Two words: Fast Food. There they go with the tubes again, though.
24: This is technically feasible but it's much cheaper to just let the sun do the work as much as possible.
25: No oranges growing in Philly (though maybe genetic engineering could allow them to be more cold-resistant). We do get fresh fruits delivered from all over the world through planes and fast ships
26: dupe
27: Hmm, nope, most drugs are still taken orally though some can be administered through the skin and others injected or inhaled in some cases
28: Glad they blew this one. Though things could always change if we screw things up too badly
29: Sounds like he's talking about a hydrofoil crossbred with a hovercraft. In any case, while we DO have ships that could do that, nobody is really interested in it. If they want to get there fast (and cheaper) they just take an airplane and make the trip in a few hours. If they don't they'll take a cruise ship like the QM2 and go in style. - arbiterxero, on 10/12/2007, -13/+55@tomboy501
It's actually not that far from reality, just the other way around....
for example
X is used more and K & S are used less, hasn't anybody AXED you a question recently?

The life expectancy in 1900 was already close to 50, not 35...if it is authentic, at the very least they had their facts wrong. - warmonger48, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20It's hit or miss. A lot more concise and accurate than Nostradamus.

ROFL..... I assume they aren't talking about America because there are WAY too many fat-ass lazy people in this country for this to ever be true. Anyone who can walk 10 miles at a time in America is AMAZING by most people's standards. - kixxster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18reminded me of futurama

- proghead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Prediction #10: Man will See Around the World. Persons and things of all kinds will be brought within focus of cameras connected electrically with screens at opposite ends of circuits, thousands of miles at a span. American audiences in their theatres will view upon huge curtains before them the coronations of kings in Europe or the progress of battles in the Orient. The instrument bringing these distant scenes to the very doors of people will be connected with a giant telephone apparatus transmitting each incidental sound in its appropriate place. Thus the guns of a distant battle will be heard to boom when seen to blaze, and thus the lips of a remote actor or singer will be heard to utter words or music when seen to move.
I....I think they just predicted the internet.......wow........ - nottidredd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13what you don't think they had projection in 1900?

Check. 'round here, P.E. is manditory from Kindergarten til junior year of highschool.
Every school, college and community will have a complete gymnasium.
Check. I've never been to a school that didn't have a gym.
All cities will have public gymnasiums.
Pretty sure the YMCA counts.
A man or woman unable to walk ten miles at a stretch will be regarded as a weakling.
Check. I'm overweight, and I can handle 10 miles, easy.
