- Ungh, on 10/20/2007, -0/+21Dugg for being an article about something positive instead of all the negative stuff that is usually flooding the media.
- amsterdamordeth, on 10/20/2007, -1/+13When you do something nice, you shouldn't sit around and tell people how awesome you are. Help someone and leave it at that. I personally don't want to hear people's stories about how helpful they were. It should be commonplace to be helpful to everyone and the reward you receive is knowing that you helped someone, not that 10,000 people hear about it.
- thermus, on 10/20/2007, -0/+7In all seriousness, not being an ***** shouldn't count as a good deed. The question you should ask yourself is, "Does letting someone pull out when you're driving once during the day justify driving like a prick the rest of the day?".
Maybe I'll get dugg down, but it's a sad state when one pats themselves on the back for behaving like a decent human being. - Dipster, on 10/19/2007, -0/+4Does this mean 1/3 of us now expects someone to go out of their way to help us?
- CharlesDance, on 10/19/2007, -3/+7I don't really help anybody because I am bitter about my terminal illness. ***** every one of you.
- inactive, on 10/19/2007, -0/+4Not in my monkeysphere.
- acheck10, on 10/19/2007, -2/+6Maybe I would appreciate this site a little more if I didn't live in a big city, and had my generosity taken advantage of last night. I tried to check someone into a hotel and he stole my debit card, and completely wiped my account out. So there will not be too much generosity coming from my direction in the near future.
*waits to get dugg down and called a "selfish *****" - Feener, on 10/19/2007, -0/+3What makes you think I drive like a dick the rest of the day? Besides that's why I said 'good deed' and said even if, to downplay the overall importance of said act.
- TheReject, on 10/19/2007, -0/+3I helped myself to an extra piece of pie. Does that count?
- MindStalker, on 10/19/2007, -0/+3Selfish *****!! (I dugg you up btw).
- sholt, on 10/19/2007, -0/+2As one of my old high school teachers used to say: "Why should I reward you for something you should be doing anyway?"
- Feener, on 10/19/2007, -0/+2Even if it's just letting someone pull out when I'm driving I try and do at least one 'good deed' a day.
- justo, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1beware idiot compassion
- gimlik, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1In other news, 2/3 of us said we would help somebody tomorrow.
- listrophy, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1Join me! (google it if you don't get it)
- Starskey, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1The poll is inaccurate and cannot reflect the Digg population, or what I myself have done or not done this week. Maybe as my one "out of my way" deed this week, I should educate those that think this number is accurate on what makes a poll unbiased and, not necessarily accurate, but more believable.
- Hawker400, on 10/20/2007, -2/+3For everyone who talks about what a great site this is, it's funny how there aren't but a handful of people who actually post on the site...
- tehpwnrate, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1Well, I held a door twice today for people. That used to be common courtesy (or so old people tell me). The bar has been lowered so much, that I may have done a nice thing just by being what should be normal. Yay?
- inactive, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1Yes, and when this occurs and it is spotted someone will always have an opinion that it came from a place of:
Co-Dependence
Neediness
People pleasing
Buying back Karma Points
There is something to be said in the anonymity of a good deed. - floridiot2, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1Maybe you shouldn't eat at the terminal snack bar. (George Carlin esque)
- decker12, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1I helped my wife achieve orgasm.. does that count?
- morestar, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1i think you're intentions were good but you have to make sure the homeless guy cant work cause hes messed in the head not cause hes lazy...make sure...
- Rikkochet, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1My good deed is submitting things, then actually READING the list of possible dupes, seeing the same story is already submitted, and Digging that instead. Even if it's a completely different article that tells the same damn story. If only more people would do that, upcoming stories wouldn't be such a cluttered nightmare.
- amsterdamordeth, on 10/20/2007, -0/+1Did you even read what I said man?
- morestar, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1i did, i opened a door for a old man who has a hard time walking, i advised a cleaning service to advertise on the web to get more business and i did a few favours for some clients for free....wow im really nice aren't i !???!?!?
- Stupidumb, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1People only help those they find attractive.
Any other reason someone gives is a lie. People don't really significantly help (like spoonmeister said).
The reason is: people are *****. %99 of people, to be exact, trust me, I have a feeling about this one. Don't believe me? Read any forum on the internet. Jerks everywhere. - amsterdamordeth, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1I think he was referring to the site in the article, not digg.
- shiftless, on 10/20/2007, -2/+2Great job! Now he's killing his liver with beer. You should have offered to take him to someplace to eat. Then that would be helping.
- diggid3, on 10/19/2007, -0/+0...
- Rikkochet, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1About a leg and five non-thumb fingers.
- philbutler, on 10/22/2007, -4/+4Does this indicate that 33.33333 percent of people are cool and 66.66666 percent are selfish *****?
- Marquette, on 10/19/2007, -0/+0I happened to donate more than a pint of blood today.
Horrah for generosity! (also, easy temporary weight loss) - GerryBot, on 10/20/2007, -1/+1That's nonsense - it isn't about self publicity, it's about showing positive attitude to other people. Not enough people take time out of their lives for others. Lead by example.
And also, the regular news is so damned depressing these days it's permeating our consciousness - we need to hear some good news to counteract that. - jizzlies, on 10/20/2007, -2/+2That's funny. I also liked the Guide to Strange College Mascots: http://www.bofads.com/stories/collegemascots.htm
- mypreciousss, on 10/19/2007, -0/+0Wow!!!!!!!1 Repeating decimals are so awesome!
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 10/19/2007, -2/+2What is .333 of a person?
- jack420, on 10/19/2007, -0/+0i was a a good Samaritan yesterday i was on the gold line (metro from Pasadena to Los Angeles) and ended up wasting 15 minutes of my own time by getting of the train to give someone their cell phone that i saw on their seat right as they got of the train. I wasted my time waiting for the train to take me to my true destination but it felt good knowing i saved someone some hassle
- Stupidumb, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1I hate you
- jack420, on 10/19/2007, -0/+0no thats just what your supposed to do, your wife is the good person for evening dealing with you, jk i dont even know you
- youareanidiot, on 10/19/2007, -0/+0Thanks dude. Can I get 5 more today?
- youareanidiot, on 10/19/2007, -0/+0how much did you have to pay the other guy?
- youareanidiot, on 10/19/2007, -0/+0"Does letting someone pull out when you're(deleted) once during the day justify (deleted) the rest of the day?
-FYP - Stupidumb, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1Unless you were joking, you're on of those people who helps others just so you can brag about it. Such honor.
- Spoomeister, on 10/19/2007, -1/+0Next time, trying helping him find his way to an organization like Real Change. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Change
- MacintoshSauce, on 10/19/2007, -1/+0I do something everyday and I get almost no respect for it - I am a Substitute Teacher working on a secondary Social Science degree.
- inactive, on 10/19/2007, -2/+0Lawyers, Ben Doon and Phil McCavity, may help you.
- sleazy, on 10/20/2007, -4/+1Last night there was some dude with a broken down car outside my house. He was there for a few hours. I live in Brooklyn so I went out of my way not to help him and end up robbed and ass raped. His chick came to pick him up at about 11:30pm. As a human being, I'm probably like the fourth to worst.
- HarmyG, on 10/19/2007, -3/+0Anyone else sick of that Liberty Mutual commercial during the playoffs? Ughhh so overplayed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iw97CfZtyGw - pedronorte, on 10/20/2007, -5/+2Last nite I gave a homeless dude $5.
- Spoomeister, on 10/20/2007, -4/+0And the other 2/3rds of us are actually doing real things to help, like donating significant time and money to charities and non-profits. Rather than yet another one of these yuppie ***** feel-good articles.
"Hey, I held the door open for an old lady at the grocery store. I'm a great human being!" Blow me.
Buried.
With a request to Digg to have a button to push that lets me drop an Audi full of Haggen-Daas and Starbucks on the writers of these kinds of articles. -
