- MaximusIGN, on 11/23/2007, -7/+426Terrible story and to make it worse, she's been there a month and not formally charged? WTF? How in the world can a minor be held for a month without being charged with a crime?
- jennmae, on 11/23/2007, -7/+395The worst part is that this wasn't the first time that it happened in Brazil...you'd think that they may have learned something from the first incident
- mattewood, on 11/23/2007, -9/+392For a ***** MONTH!?
Holy *****! Those prison guards should be punished with 1 month of ass rapings. - hyankov, on 11/23/2007, -61/+423Well, if I get arrested, I hope they will do the same mistake and put me in a cell with 20 women :D
- Cruelapollo, on 11/23/2007, -14/+325Better watch what you wish for. You might end up getting nagged to death.
- pintomp3, on 11/23/2007, -11/+232did they not realize she was female? how do you accidentally put a female in a male prison? whatever crime she may have committed, what happened to her is truly disgusting.
- waydee, on 11/23/2007, -10/+188People - this is Brazil, their cops don't really have the best track record when it comes to... anything. Their idea of combatting drug dealing is to bust into a neighbourhood and gun down a few people, keep them scared.
- antivibe, on 11/23/2007, -20/+181sad
- dinostabOMG, on 11/23/2007, -28/+187Try asking that question in Guantanamo or Abu Ghraib.
- spyd3rweb, on 11/23/2007, -16/+158So men getting thrown in prison and being raped repeatedly doesn't bother you feminists?
- gincarnated, on 11/23/2007, -14/+146Death..... by Snu Snu.
- Hartrain, on 11/23/2007, -0/+101No one deserves it, dudes, girls, or otherwise
- dobbinmon, on 11/23/2007, -1/+90it should never happen anywhere
- Hartrain, on 11/23/2007, -1/+78Ironically, she was thrown in that cell by a female chief of police. Since this came to light, three other cases have been reported. Family members said they were threatened by police authorities. One victim said she even had to rub the feet of the chief of police. We haven't heard from Amnesty International. - Logicexe, on 11/23/2007, -3/+75People getting raped in prisons in America? Nah, that never happens.... right?
- girino, on 11/23/2007, -1/+72The current news here in Brazil is that the girl was jailed in a male prison ON PURPOSE, in order to provide sexual entertainment for the inmates. It seems to be a fairly common practice in northern Brazil (amazon rain forest region) where there's little law enforcement and which looks a little bit like the "far west" in cowboy movies.
Southern Brazil is a little bit more civilized (not much) and such things would not happen there (at least not yet). - iaresean, on 11/23/2007, -22/+91Some of the comments on here are horrific. This is an extremely disgusting event, I don't think it warrants jokes of any kind.
I do have a sense of humour, but lets have a heart too people. - hulez, on 11/23/2007, -8/+74You sick puppy! I cannot believe you were planning on raping 20 women
- monkeestylee, on 11/23/2007, -8/+69just sick
- cruzlee, on 11/23/2007, -0/+51Not the first time? This was not even one of a number of incidents. This is commonplace there (and elsewhere). Which can, imho only lead to one conclusion: All the people involved in the conviction are guilty of sending this girl of to BE raped. Willingly. They should be convicted accordingly.
Especially the guards should have deducted the urgency of her replacement in a different cell. Man is a cruel animal. - inactive, on 11/23/2007, -15/+64Isn't Brazil in (South) America?
- poidh, on 11/23/2007, -8/+56It's also known that our friends in China routinely throw arrested Falun Gong women into cells with male criminals, who proceed to rape and torture them. So this isn't an isolated incident, and I'm willing to bet that many countries (the West excluded of course) do this.
- benjic, on 11/23/2007, -4/+49Shut the ***** up, for your own good.
Im pretty sure if you robbed a house and your punishment was one month of being continually violated, you'd be a-ok with that, right? Because we should just all accep the punishment they give us. The law will show us whats right, just trust the police.... yea, ok, tell me how that works out for you. - Joe_rigby, on 11/23/2007, -6/+48Nagged or shagged.
- FlyCO, on 11/23/2007, -1/+41they did know she was a female
she was held in a cell with man because of the lack of female prisons at that city - Poovey, on 11/23/2007, -2/+41Something tells me that it wasn't a "mistake". Just a hunch, but it was probably some vindictive piece of excrement getting their jollies.
- Carburetor, on 11/23/2007, -0/+39And if she was above 18, would she deserve that?
What's the justified age for being raped?
That's not the point, mate.
The dudes you're talking about are getting their punishment from court, not from other prisoners!
(Unless they're into it, but that's another story). - DashingLeech, on 11/23/2007, -3/+40I don't usually reply to trolls, but I must say at least a congratulations. This is by far the most obvious and most disgustingly offensive troll I have ever seen. Congratulations on being the slimiest, barely human person on the internet. It could be sarcastic, but you can't leave out the tag in a text environment.
- tektalk, on 11/23/2007, -3/+40Yay! Aww! Yay! Aww! Yay! Aww...
- lnf69, on 11/23/2007, -4/+37Actually, the second comment states this "The worst part is that this wasn't the first time that it happened in Brazil...you'd think that they may have learned something from the first incident". Which seems to be in complete agreement with the first.
Guess I won't follow your advice, and I will continue reading the other comments. Plus digg yours down. - TotalCarb, on 11/23/2007, -1/+33Hey Netdroid. There isn't a single person commenting here that doesn't know that what this girl went through is horrible. But as you and I both know the media is saturated with horror stories like this. So common in fact that many of us have become dead to it. I know this isn't true for all of us, probably the minority in fact. But there are those of us that choose to intake large amounts of information and have sadly desensitized. I could get mad, but I know I'm not going to do anything to help her or change the situation in Brazil. So for me, getting mad would be pointless. I agree though that the jokes aren't necessary either. I will say that if you do feel strongly about her situation, you shouldn't worry about the jokesters here. Instead use that energy to make a positive change for her. If you aren't going to do something to help her or the situation, then don't bother spending your energy getting mad at us, just pull up a chair and feel welcome in our club of apathy.
- slaystench, on 11/23/2007, -2/+33I doubt you would like most women in that cell.
- Egoist, on 11/23/2007, -2/+31She hasn't even been charged with a crime, so you're happy that she's being punished for something that at that point is just an accusation? Seriously, get off my planet.
- dobbinmon, on 11/23/2007, -2/+31message does not compute. btw, you're a douche.
- inactive, on 11/23/2007, -1/+29This sounds more like a BS arrest with the soul intention of allowing men in prison a women for sexual purposes with the intent to keep the peace within the jail.
- ORBAT, on 11/23/2007, -12/+39It's not just the cops, or just Brazil. The whole South American continent seems to be unable to get its act together.
- sparsely, on 11/23/2007, -3/+30In America we do the same to our young men, and it's joked about (don't drop the soap!).
- Hoogs, on 11/23/2007, -2/+29Isn't it just commonplace for US Citizens to say they live in "America"? I mean, people in South America, Canada, or Mexico probably wouldn't say they live in "America" if someone asked them.
- Sinudeity, on 11/23/2007, -11/+38My heart BREAKS when I read articles like these.
- Logicexe, on 11/23/2007, -8/+34That's exactly what I was thinking. The fact that she's a minor probably makes a bigger difference than the fact that she's a woman. I think people would be almost as upset to hear about a 15 year old guy being raped repeatedly for a month.
I doubt this will change anyone's opinion, they'll still laugh at jokes about guys getting raped in prison, but if they hear about a woman getting raped in prison (adult or otherwise) it's a human rights tragedy. - Klaus777, on 11/23/2007, -0/+26...with a splintered wooden stick
- hamesy, on 11/23/2007, -8/+33Dude, thats just sick!
- Stevethegreat, on 11/23/2007, -8/+30No they are not, they're driven by their feral instincts, especially those prison inmates. Throwing a 15 year old in a prison cell with 20 men is the equivalent of throwing a sheep to a pack of hungry wolves.
By the time you or anyone else understand that the default state of humans -the one we're born into- is an aggressive ape you will instantly become a wiser person because only then you will understand how many hurdles one has to pass to become human and only then you will understand why those despicable crimes happen. There is only one way for "apes" to become humans and that is education, not schools -so much- but mostly the family environment and the society as a whole.
People are born feral and society makes them humans, if society won't play this role well enough, you'll have a country of run amok apes and that's the clear and only truth. - paulbyrnes, on 11/23/2007, -4/+26***** you mate.
- stevedclarke, on 11/23/2007, -4/+25Death by SNOO SNOO!!
Edit: Great... I should've looked down. Sorry. - Logicexe, on 11/23/2007, -0/+20Don't be an nitpicking ass, lots of people refer to the USA as America. When you refer to "America" everybody knows you're talking about the USA.
- inactive, on 11/23/2007, -1/+21too good for them, a lifetime of punishment might do it.
