- Crass22, on 10/12/2007, -6/+112The first time I got wasted was 10, off of whiskey with my older brother and his friends. Looking back on it it was stupid and dangerous. But if I had became poisioned my brother would have helped me out, what kind of friends will throw you into the snow to die?
- Plasmatica, on 10/12/2007, -4/+65Or the first steps towards alcoholism.
- addiggt, on 07/06/2009, -3/+60FTA: "The 10-year-old boy allegedly drank a mix of alcohol and Kool-Aid while there". Something doesn't seem right...

Ten year olds? That's sick, dude. - stlcadet11, on 10/12/2007, -4/+57"omg duuude I'm sooo wasted!!"
"how many did you have?"
"like 3... hoooly *****" - bredvad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+47It probably didn't take much to get a 10-year-old up to that level.

- Threnody, on 10/12/2007, -8/+51Technically water is a poison, what's your point?
For all we know the booze was all locked up and the kids managed to break into the liquor cabinet. When I was a kid they just kept it in the cupboard and we weren't stupid enough to touch it. - contradictator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+37According to the article, he has some kind of.. central nervous system condition... combine that with possible hypothermia and alcohol poisoning... I don't think he's gonna be okay.
- daRoach, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37The article doesn't say what kind of alcohol it is. But everclear (basically moonshine) is usually mixed with kool-aid. A couple shots of that could knock a large person on their ass. I can imagine what a small amount would do to a 10 year old.

- euphemizeme, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22Everybody knows cripples never get married. Nobody wants to marry a cripple. I should know, I am one.
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22Why in gods name would you want to see some 10 year old passed out in the snow, who's probably turned all blue you sick bastard.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+183 drinks!? Can I have her number?
- Tsen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Alright, now I'm not necessarily defending alcohol--one of my neighbors is an alcoholic, and I think he's the worst kind of slime on the earth.
However, saying that alcohol is responsible for more deaths than crack is blatantly misleading. How many people drink? How many people do crack? My point exactly. - DAaaMan64, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16sweet your gf is cheap and easy, wonder how her mom is
- dirtyharry, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18I agree with MEE2. My first experience with alcohol was also at age 10 when my family visited Greece. The Greek people are very hospitable, constantly bringing us Ouzo, olives and watermelon (for this reason I can no longer consume any of those three items, each good on there own, but together not so much). I also was exposed to various local wines. Every time my family visited Europe again I was exposed to alcohol and even within our home I was allowed to drink if I wanted to. The point is I was taught how to drinking responsibly from a young age. When I finally hit the point where all of my peers were getting wasted nightly and constantly making stupid mistakes as a result, I steered clear. That isn't to say I didn't go out and party, but when I did I knew my limits, I knew the consequences and I made it through that stage in my life unscathed. It's too bad if this kid ends up scared for life, but either way he'll have learned his lesson.
- dirtyharry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Siszam,
I'm afraid you and I don't see eye to eye on the matter. I find it odd that you find it "sick" that my parents "exposed" me. I am thankful that they educated me instead of keeping me in the dark. You are right to say alcohol ruins lives and kills innocent people. But doesn't this occur generally when people are irresponsible. When someone hops in a car because they think they are OK to drive? When someone on their 21st never having touched a drop takes too many shots? When someone becomes dependent because they have a family history of addiction?
You chose to jump to conclusions with very little knowledge of me so let me fill you in. I cannot claim with any certainty that I am healthier than you, but I can say that I am healthier than the majority of the population. I am 6'1", 175 pounds with 7% body fat. I don't smoke or use recreational drugs and only drink on special occasions. I eat well and take care of myself. I can say every member of my family is just as healthy. If you think having a drink on a special occasion is a "family problem" then I'm afraid I will pass it along.
I have many friends that abstain from alcohol altogether and I'm not trying to force my beliefs on anyone, I'm just attempting to share my personal experiences. You are right to say that just because others do it, it doesn't make it OK. However, that is a determination for each person to make in their own lives. My parents never forced anything upon me. I made my choice and I am happy with it. I can enjoy a drink when I see fit, but it doesn't control me. I wonder why you are seemingly so angry in your response. Even my friends who would never touch a drop do not look down their noses at me. We just have different beliefs. Alcohol is a part of culture worldwide and it's fine if you want no part, but having such a negative outlook is counter-productive. Prohibition didn't work for a reason, the only thing we can do is try to teach people to act responsibly and hope for the best. - zephc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15If you drink too much water, it causes water intoxication, which can be fatal

- terribly1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11No, 99.819 percent blood in his alcohol stream.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+20As long as no health problems arise, it's all a learning process.
- kosmoX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Or you could look at the flip side, and say he had a .82 percent of blood in his alcohol stream.

There are places in the world with a drinking culture where you'll be pressured into doing so. - holydope, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10@daroach
Everclear is 190 proof, which is 95% pure grain alcohol. Moonshine is a common slang term for home-distilled alcohol.

- Threnody, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10@siszam
Actually I almost never drink. I do club drugs, if you want to know the truth.
I'm sorry, but I disagree that we need to coddle a 13 year-old to that degree. People get it in their heads that their offspring are incapable of making healthy decisions, so they just keep them from having to make decisions at all. Then once those same kids are out on their own they go off their nut. Usually the kid in first-year university who turns into an alcoholic and drops out is the one that was "protected" throughout their teen years. And once they're on their own they don't know how to control themselves, because they're so used to someone else doing it for them. - twinklyJesus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It is common in Europe for all ages to drink alcohol. The problem here wasn't that "you shouldn't have alcohol around children" or "parental neglect." The problem is in teaching alcohol abuse instead of proper, responsible, social use.
Keeping children ignorant of the effects and outcome of over-indulgence of alcohol does nothing but create potential for death due to ignorance, a common problem today when kids get away from home and start showing off at college.
Education on responsible use and the effects of abuse would do much more than prohibition ever could to avert these situations. - supermanred, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Yeah you are going to watch YOUR kids 24 hours a day 7 days a week and lock everything away from them right? And your going to follow them to their friends house, etc.
Man, your kids are going to run away from home before 10 years old.
Get real. Teach your kids not to be stupid and they wont drink moonshine to the point of falling over. - Tagaiz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Im an American living in Europe. Im 13 and at this age, while my parents don't let me drink that much, Ive gone to skate parks and bought beer without anyone batting an eye at me. Ive gone to friends parties and drank but never once, beacuse my parents taught me to drink responsibly at a very early age have I actually gotten drunk. I don't think Im going to be an alcoholic when I grow up because of this.
- dreamxtime, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Apparently, the kid also has a few disorders/disabilities. The severity isn't mentioned. --> "...the boy, who has disorders of the spine and nervous system..." On one hand, he could have ADD and scoliosis, but on the other hand, he could have OCD and a serious spinal disorder.
So, some 13-year-olds decided it was okay to give their 10-year-old friend a Kool-Aid shot and toss him into the snow to die after they realized he was a lightweight. What is the world coming to? - Matt2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5> Taught to drink responsibly? You're parents suck for teaching you that alcohol is an ok drug and for letting you drink. Shows how bad their problem with alcohol was.
You are either a troll, or have much deeper personal issues that cannot be resolved in an online discussion.
Alcohol is an enjoyable experience in life. Like sex, good food, a cigar, and fast cars. Anyone could argue those have a darker side if taken to extremes, but the great majority of people moderate themselves without any help.
Above you mentioned crack cocaine. That is in another league entirely. Few people can moderate themselves against such a drug. Consequently, it consumes peoples lives and it is outlawed.
Can that happen with Food/Sex/Smoking/Drinking as well? Sure, it happens all the time. But to a much less drastic degree. To suggest they are the same is silly.
I enjoy all those things and have a deeper appreciation of things. If you enjoy living a monastic lifestyle, then more power to you, but to speak to someone else in such a bizarrely condesending tone, or to make presumptions about the quality of their parenting is ridiculous. - s0nicfreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, while we're at it, other potently dangerous liquids shouldn't be kept in a house with kids either. So that means no bleach, clothes washing liquid, dish washing liquid, etc. Oh yeah and there shouldn't be any anti-freeze, oil, etc in your garage either.
Or, you know, we could do the logical thing and WATCH kids who are too young or stupid to understand that there are some things in the house they shouldn't drink, and teach them not to drink it once they're old enough. - filefly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Cripple power! *raises gimpy arm*
- yeahaboutthat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Jesus, 10 years old and still can't hold his liquor? What a wimp.

- captainchris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4...you must be 14 years old.
- terribly1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5My guess is he tried to celebrate St. Paddy's with some Irish kids
- 3dom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's true though. It took drinking waay too much vodka and throwing up into a bucket when I was about that age to make me realise that it wasnt all fun and games. Also I had the benefit of being taught how to drink responsibly after that by my parents- a glass of wine with a meal perhaps- instead of where my buddies had hard-line no-drink-till-yer-18 parents, and they're all going hog wild now.
- dle5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I blame Global Warming.
- dsnyd, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7"The police report said the boy and his friends were at a roller rink and took a cab to the home of a 13-year-old boy whose mother was not home."
First off, why is a 10 year old allowed to go to the roller rink without parents and then what is a 10 and 13 year old doing taking a cab? I know cab drivers are not smart but come on, they gave a 10 and 13 year old a cab ride? That should be illegal. The parents also need some parenting classes if they are letting a 10 year old go to the roller rink alone in todays society. They are lucky he only got drunk and took a cab ride instead of kidnapped and molested. - mutabi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well said Dirty Harry
- benijuana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3whats all this talk about everclear? it was most likely your everyday bottle of gin in the parents' liquor cabinet, and when you're young it tastes great with kool aid
snoop dogg even has a song about it - masgrada, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It wasn't the waste that killed her it was the hyponaturemia. The excess liquids in her body that diluted the electrolytes and caused her to die. Unless she ruptured her bladder but not likley. That would be a real mess.
