Everytime you buy "Mt Franklin" or "Pump" water you are giving Doug Daft & Coca-Cola large amounts of money they didn't earn and don't deserve because of their disgusting business practices of setting up "competing" products, selling something that is free and doesn't belong to them, and "pursuading" businesses to take Coca-Cola fridges in exchange for stocking only Coca-Cola Amatil monopoly products.
In short
Water = Good
Bottled Water = Bad - NearlyHeadless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Research does not support the claims of this article:
http://www.snopes.com/medical/myths/8glasses.asp - atdigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5it's also expensive.
- hollowmedia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Moderation. Last I've seen there were no studies that show how much water is "enough" to enjoy the benefits listed in TFA. Add to that, water is present in many of our food sources and it'd be very difficult to gauge just how much you get vs. how much you need, provided there was a valid amount we *should* get.
If you drink too much water, you run the risk of electrolyte imbalances (sodium, potassium), which can lead to bad cramping, spasms, and the inability for you to retain water. Extreme cases even include death, but not many people can feasibly drink enough to have that issue.
Moderation. - tablatronix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Does coffee count ?
:) - Kohath, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Or just do what you want.
Minding your own business and letting Coca-Cola mind theirs is an option too. - SpeckledJim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't think it can get to the stage of ketoacidosis unless you're so dehydrated that other things start going wrong anyway. More fluids may help reduce "Atkins Breath" though. :)
- tessasaur, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2May as well make it cold water while you're at it. It takes more calories to consume cold water because your body must heat it up to stay at a nice 98.6.
- Xanin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2yeah but anything in excess is bad for you. You're talking 20 odd litres for those kinds of effects. The average person should be aiming for 2 litres a day, more if unwell or is a hot day.
- inactive, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1Water is great, but drinking XanGo is better. Learn more about the magical and extremely healthy juice they call XanGo here:
http://www.buyxangoonline.com - Joe_rigby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"Aim to drink one glass of pure water every hour you are awake."
Sure, I'll drink water, but I refuse 16 glasses a day - that's a lot of piss. - Joe_rigby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm awake for 16 hours a day. It says to aim for 1 glass of water for every hour I'm awake. That equates to 16 glasses of water.
- Rinnt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2FTFA: "Water helps get rid of excess nitrogen, urea, and ketones, so it is particularly important when following a high protein diet."
Serious question: Why are ketones bad and need to be flushed? Perhaps they are referring to situations in the diabetic world? I (an exercise/diet freak) only ask because I periodically try high protein diets with ketogenic states. Naturally, I try to drink plenty of water, but the comment still has me puzzled... - redthirteen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Now I totally convince that staying healthy comes with a steep price. To get clean water we must pay for it. Clean water and bottle water are expensive.
- SpeckledJim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yup. Tea too. They're mildly diuretic, but unless you make them really really strong, that's more than counteracted by the amount of water you take in.
- Kohath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The sweetners are safe. Your chemical-phobia is silly and counter-factual.
- missflibbles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I've wondered about that myself. They show up when you've been fasting or your cells are getting starved. They're used by the brain for lipid synthesis and to make metabolism more efficient.
If you tell people something that sounds chemical is a toxin, they'll decide it needs to be flushed. Buzzwords are powerful. - Akufen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well the facts are that even NutraSweet in their own 'research' showed that a number of rats developed brain tumors. I don't know how you can consider that safe..
The truth is, there's proof that it's relatively safe and there's proof that it's very dangerous. So the next thing to consider is who benefits from research who's outcome says it's safe? And does anyone benefit from saying it's unsafe? - tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Yeah, definitely. I used to drink 2 litres of coke a day (I work on a computer, it's only natural ;) ). I made a decision that I can't go on doing that, so I switched to Coke Zero for a bit. Then I realised that the sweetners in that are linked to brain tumours and lymphoma. So I made another decision that all carbonated drinks are out for me. I switched to water and haven't looked back - and now I'd even agree that ice cold water tastes as good as ice cold coke. I even lost half a stone in weight without changing anything to do with my diet or exercise. The only carbonated drinks I have now are an occasional Red Bull when I need a burst of energy for a long assignment or something.
- MikePricee, on 09/08/2008, -0/+0By reading the title, almost everybody already understand I think. Great to remain.
http://www.healthwellnessproduct.com - ConfusedONE, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Drinking a lot of water is bad for you too. Brain swelling is all too common with psychogenic polydipsia. People who think they need to drink copious amounts of water to flush out said toxins, can seriously hurt themselves.
The key here is to drink when you are thirsty, not to force yourself to overhydrate. Too much of a good thing will kill you. - JeffreyLebowski, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Switching from pop (I'm from Chicago, eh) to water is difficult transition to make. I gave up any kind of soda (diet or otherwise) for water two years ago and haven't missed it since. Great blog post! Thanks for the reminder for myself and anyone else who's looking to live a healthier life!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Beer is mostly water. So, I guess I need to drink more beer. One beer for every hour I am awake.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I don't have a chemical phobia, and I don't avoid sweetners completely. I just don't think drinking 2 litres worth every day is good in anyone's book.
- mrm128, on 04/03/2008, -0/+0yeah right - beer it is. lol
http://healthdigests.com - coolbrorican, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I really like when it talked about how important it is to drink water bu to realize that the body can only absorb 4 ounces of water every 10 minutes I guess we do have to be proactive in drinking water as the article says. Good post!
- Kohath, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2You're only supposed to drink it once
- Johnsbk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Excellent post.

what Blaze said. - Kohath, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Is "thirst" one of the reasons?
I think I can come up with reasons to eat food.
