- pacmangamer, on 10/22/2007, -6/+99Well to me the status of "casual" gamer VS. "hardcore" gamer doesnt mean crap....some games I am a "hardcore" gamer and others I am a "casual" gamer and that is not decided on the console I am playing on, It is based on the game. So in my opinion the console doesnt determine if one is a "hardcore" or "casual" gamer
- FinalLimit, on 10/22/2007, -8/+91Wii probably has less hardcore users than PS3 or 360, but there are still a fair amount of hardcores that OWN and USE it.
- juicebag, on 10/22/2007, -4/+85Most casual gamers I know play Halo, GTA, and God of War.
- Cloudime, on 10/22/2007, -30/+109Don't get me wrong, I know that the Wii has some un-enticing games for it, but it has enough games that a hardcore gamer can enjoy, it looks like a "casual" gamer's console if you only look at games like Elebits, and Wii Sports. On the other hand it has some great in-depth games already out, and a lot more to come.
it isn't fair to write off an entire system's fanbase, that is like saying people who own cars below the price of $20,000 don't enjoy driving. - LastDinosaur, on 10/22/2007, -10/+75When the hell will we get an online multiplayer lightsaber dueling game?! Just make the damn thing already!
- rompom7, on 10/22/2007, -13/+67People need to stop thinking that hardcore gamers only like M-shooters.
Casual weekend warriors are the ones buying the M-shooters. Hardcore gamers play all kinds of different games, and I'm going to say that Wii caters the best for hardcore gamers. You have all the current Wii games that are out, plus virtual console; you can play all those oldschool classics (sonic, mario, zelda). Plus you'll have smash bros.. probably one of the best game for hardcore gamers (easy to play, hard to master). Most hardcore gamers do not care if a game has fantastic graphics, its just an added bonus if it does.
xbox, you have GoW and Halo.
ps3, you have.. ermm.. nothing really for the hardcore gamer yet. - decapitron, on 10/22/2007, -7/+47I think the real point here is who cares if you're a "hardcore gamer"?
Better yet: who cares if someone considers you a "hardcore gamer"?
EVEN better yet: who cares if someone makes a broad generalization implying that you are not a "hardcore gamer"? - gagman, on 10/22/2007, -9/+49What was the point of releasing RE4?
The game got great reviews, and is one of the best on the wii and gamecube... - Rozenrot, on 10/22/2007, -5/+43That's like saying everybody who likes pop doesn't like death metal. Or that everybody who eats apples doesn't eat steak. Or that if you like crackers you don't like candy.
- NekoAmplifier, on 10/23/2007, -9/+44Digg is not your personal army.
Stop bitching. - AntBing, on 10/22/2007, -5/+39Zelda and Metroid were both good.
- ahnonamis, on 10/21/2007, -1/+32It doesn't matter if it's valid or not, people just love splitting things up into binary opposition.
Stupid cultural norms... - Dundasbro, on 10/22/2007, -5/+30Godfather was 7 flavours of awesome. And all those flavours were chocolate.
- Zettabyte, on 10/22/2007, -5/+3012 year-olds reckon Halo is hardcore.
- drizzlelicious, on 10/22/2007, -3/+25To be fair, the PS3 and 360 don't appeal to "casual gamers", while the Wii definitely does (it even appeals to girls!)
- bagboyrebel, on 10/21/2007, -2/+21so a hardcore gamer is someone who plays boring games? I think your definition needs some work. In my opinion a hardcore gamer is someone who would consider video games a major part of there life, instead of something they do from time to time.
- DocHoliday22, on 10/22/2007, -2/+21Only superficial nerds worry about name tags.
- raindogmx, on 10/22/2007, -3/+20A hardcore gamer is expected to own a Wii... And an Xbox360, and a PS3 and a pretty much everything else is out there. Resorting to only one console wouldn't be "hardcore" would it? I guess what this means is that casual gamers are more enticed by the Wii and that the Wii has broadened the spectrum of people who would become casual gamers.
Hardcores were going to get a Wii anyway. - inactive, on 10/22/2007, -3/+20the day a casual gamer beats prime 2 i'll take up fishing or something
- ffleming, on 10/22/2007, -2/+18I think the answer you're looking for is "idiots" :)
- bob_the_alien, on 10/22/2007, -3/+19it's not even close to that simple, The whole tagging of hardcore gamer and casual gamer is basically retarded.
I've been playing games for 24 years now, that's about as far back as I can remember, and I've been gaming that long. Now I don't really consider myself a hardcore gamer, However, Everyone else I know does, I still own every single system I've ever bought, and have at least 20+ games for each one, and I still play the older systems.
It's like how they are speaking of the fps, being hardcore, well, I don't like them, In-fact I hate fps on console, I do enjoy them on PC, but how someone can play with a analog stick on a fps is beyond me, Most games I play for one reason, The stroyline, I play them because the storyline's are great, and I'd like to see how it ends, and then I like my fun for kicks games, that I could care less about winning the game, as long as I'm enjoying myself.
It's never as simple as you seem to think, There are so many different types of gamers out there, and just refering to them as casual or hardcore, isn't going to cut it. - MrTeQ, on 10/23/2007, -15/+30The majority of Wii owners are casual gamers. Deal with it.
- diggitydoc, on 10/22/2007, -14/+29metroid???
and your mom. - EvilDude, on 10/22/2007, -4/+18Zelda.. casual.. right, you obviously have not played Zelda.
- Blue_Eon, on 10/22/2007, -0/+13To me, a hardcore gamer plays ALL types of games, not just a certain genre, and most people incorrectly labeled as "hardcore" gamers only play FPS games and look down on any game that isn't overly violent or doesn't have rap music in it. Those guys would be the casual gamers. I suppose you could lump in the people who play video games a few times a month as well, but people who only play FPS games or overtly violent games are not hardcore gamers.
- WhereAmI, on 10/22/2007, -1/+14You and your friends, stay away from me...
- ffleming, on 10/22/2007, -7/+20Who ***** cares whether or not they're a "hardcore gamer?" Games are games, they are not a lifestyle.
- plbland, on 10/22/2007, -5/+18Resident Evil 4...
- Blueshrike, on 10/21/2007, -1/+14Here's a wild thought. Maybe it's the lack of hardcore games that pull in less hardcore gamers. Then there's the fact that many hardcore games are multi-platform so if there's a Wii version, it'll most likely get the shaft in terms of graphics so people won't come anyway.
Let's just call it what it is: he doesn't want to do a Wii-only hardcore game due to making less money than multi-platforming it out and he's using the current audience as rationale. - hmunkey, on 10/21/2007, -3/+16Um... he's actually right. Why are you digging him down?
- bagboyrebel, on 10/22/2007, -3/+15Wii sports is the only casual game on there. Since when does a game have to be indie to be hardcore?
- loof, on 10/22/2007, -0/+12A game shouldn't require that you read books to understand its back story. Games can have back stories now.
- Goombellaofgoom, on 10/22/2007, -2/+13This could change quickly if someone bothered to make some good, exclusive hardcore games for Wii. With 11+ million consoles out there, there has to be a decent market for them. We don't all insist on the highest-quality graphics and physics possible. A game with good, well-built, *fun* gameplay and decent (but stylish or creative) graphics would be fine. The kind of game you come back to again and again, even after you beat it. That's why Nintendo's games constantly outsell third-party titles on Wii.
If developers would just put some effort into it, they'd discover that what sells in the end is *good* games, not pretty ones. - unruled, on 10/22/2007, -1/+12I am a casual gamer, however.. I think developers shouldn't pay no attention to the wii platform because of that.
There are more "casual" wii gamers then xbox gamers, so its not like there is no need for good games - inactive, on 10/22/2007, -0/+11i'm not sure about GoW, but GTA is defintitly casual. you got around town blowing stuff up with guns and tanks that pop up out of nowhere. that would be a fun party game, like who can kill the most hookers in two minutes, and racing around town with six stars, not something you would play for 70 hours straight.
- Whackly, on 10/21/2007, -2/+13Go man go! Gimme 4 more!
- TheTaoOfBill, on 10/21/2007, -5/+16Because all the gamecube fanboys are still upset that it was ported to the PS2.
- Konstantino, on 10/21/2007, -1/+11Yeah, but his "opinion" has just created a massive stereotype. What about the negative opinions of individual race?
- rompom7, on 10/21/2007, -1/+11I have lost many nights to Counter-Strike, playing to the early hours of the morning, looking out the window and thinking "whoa, why isn't it that dark outside, its 1:00AM" *types /thetime into chat* "HOLY ***** 5AM! I HAVE SCHOOL IN 4 HOURS"
...
"Just one more round..."
(those were the days) - MeatBlender, on 10/22/2007, -2/+12The majority of every consoles owners are casual gamers. They just have varying proportions of people that shout the loudest about how 'hardcore' they are for playing the same games everyone else does but taking them more seriously.
- ChileanGoD, on 10/21/2007, -2/+12" Yamaoka Says "Wii user isn't a hardcore user" "... Wait till someone comes up with a wiimote dildo.
- beriadan, on 10/21/2007, -2/+12Yep well, some people like cultural norms, some don't
- Goombellaofgoom, on 10/21/2007, -1/+11O ye of little faith. Just ye waiteth, and Wii wilt pwn thy doubts unto smithereens in but one year's time.
- noumuon, on 10/22/2007, -0/+10agreed. a hardcore gamer isn't defined by the type of game they play. i, of course, play all kinds of FPSes, but when you compare the amount of time i've put into those (counter strike excluded) compared to the months of never leaving my computer except to eat, sleep, and excrete with games like morrowind and daggerfall (and never mind when i get into text based MUDs...), i can't really see how an FPS alone player could even come close to being considered a hardcore gamer.
- Dundasbro, on 10/21/2007, -2/+11Since the fringe covering domatoas eye and the blood dripping from his wrist became fashionable.
- KyleMistry, on 10/23/2007, -0/+9I'd say that Nintendo's marketing strategy brought the stereotype on.
- Nerfdude, on 10/25/2007, -0/+9Halo isn't hardcore.
GTA isn't hardcore.
Gears isn't hardcore.
let me put it to you this way. games your friends play on the bigscreen at the frat house aren't hardcore. and neither are you. - bingbangboom, on 10/31/2007, -1/+9Well, I have a Wii and a 360 and I am a big fan of Nintendo and some people would label me as a fanboy at times. But I do kinda agree... its not what people consider a "hardcore" system but that is really up to the publishers to make games for it. Right now, alot of people are buying the Wii for WiiSports. It is a sad truth but it is the truth. The best selling game is WiiPlay, basically a controller with a cheap game. Even Zelda didn't sell how people thought it will and neither did Metroid. It does ok and it will be up to Nintendo to try to make it into that "hardcore" game. But I think he is taking "hardcore" as meaning mature. Nintendo has had that for a long time and they havn't shed away from it but things may change. Resident Evil 4 for the Wii sold very well. Manhunt 2 is getting alot of buzz and could sell well just because of that. Problem is that there hasn't been alot of new or original mature games for the Wii so until that happens we really don't know. I believe he even thinks it could be a good game... but now they have to think about making cool games that sell.
- hmunkey, on 10/22/2007, -9/+17You do realize that it probably will be glitchy, won't work well, or people will use altered controllers to win.
- YuriSakazaki, on 10/22/2007, -7/+15I don't think any console games are aimed at "Hardcore Gamers" anymore. That's what PCs are for. I haven't bought a console since I bought an Xbox back like 4 years ago, and I don't miss them at all. Who needs Halo 3, an average upgrade to Halo 2 in terms of gameplay at best, when you have a ton of exponentially better games on PC?
