- kravex, on 10/11/2007, -10/+80Imagine how many they would be selling if they could get enough stock in the shops.
- aywwts4, on 10/11/2007, -7/+50"All I need now are some MORE and BETTER GAMES!!!!!
plz?"
Don't digg him down, Anyone who had a wii since launch will probably testify, that the game library just isn't enough to keep them playing every day. Its a great system, and all the potential is there, but at the moment most of it is still just potential. no great driver, no great FPS, no truly great FP-sports sim.
As an addendum.... MULTIPLAYER GAMES!!!!1 plz?
:) - chris4404, on 10/11/2007, -7/+50Yes indeed, revolution really was a fitting code name.
- d3bruts1d, on 10/11/2007, -6/+48And I still cannot find one in my area.
- glasgowm, on 10/11/2007, -8/+37^ I finally was able to get one, In may!
- zyl0x, on 10/11/2007, -6/+34No one can. Personally, I find the simultaneous lack of consoles and skyrocketing sales baffling and contradicting.
- harryhill, on 10/11/2007, -15/+39Amazing sales
- raiderj, on 10/11/2007, -5/+28Amazon still sells out of the Wii inside of 10 minutes once their available and posted on Fatwallet.
- dclowd9901, on 10/11/2007, -3/+24Well, every system made is sold, whereas with some other merchandise that shan't be named might have more stock but fewer sales. And, the more demand, the better for Nintendo.
- DAaaMan64, on 10/11/2007, -4/+23Do the old rules still apply? As in Nintendo calls a sale a sale when it hits the end consumers hand whereas Sony and Microsoft call it a sale when the retailer has it.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+25Only 3 million behind Xbox now and selling about 1.5 million per month compared to 0.5 million for Xbox. I expect sales to be level by the end of August when Halo 3 will launch and maybe keep things level for a while.
- chrism1128, on 10/11/2007, -2/+187 million and I can't ever find one in store.
I guess it's like Yogi Berra said, "Noboby goes there any more, it's too crouded." - pathy, on 10/11/2007, -7/+21Sigh, call me when Nintendo make that announcement. Didn't we get past posting VGCharts to Digg every other minute?
- Augie1969, on 10/11/2007, -5/+18Sleze:
Sundays seem to be the best day to buy them. Try lurking around Best Buy and asking questions. I hear Toys R Us releases them on that day as well. - totorototoro, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Not sure about Sony or Nintendo, but Microsoft's “sold” number refers to units “sold into retail”, which refers to units in transit, units sitting in store inventories and machines sold to consumers.
- johnhummel, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13I don't know - it's like the old line I see every Wii story that goes like this:
"Well, I bought a Wii on launch date, but then I played Zelda, and I didn't want to play anything else, because the Wii doesn't have any other good games."
Which means that the poster evidently doesn't care for anything but - Zelda. Because (and I'm feeling like a broken record here), Trauma Center was good. The ports (gasp! Shock! You mean console systems all get ports! No wai!) of Madden, Godfather, and Tiger Woods are regarded to be some of the best (while other ports like Prince of Persia 3 and Call of Duty are meh, and Far Cry is utter crap). Metal Slug was OK, but you really needed to play it with the Gamecube controller (and what up with no Virtual Console controller, SNK?).
Original games like Rayman and Elebits were hits with me and my kids. I played the hell out of Trauma Center and loved it, Red Steel was "OK", but I can see the potential. My kids and I finished Super Paper Mario, and when I came home yesterday my wife had just finished playing Wii Sports (she loves the tennis and the golf. I keep trying to get her to try Super Swing Golf, but she's not otaku enough for that one.). When I get home today, my kids and I are going to try out the Sonic game.
Sure, if you like shooters, you're not going to like the current Wii games. If you like beat 'em ups, there isn't much on the Wii for you right now. But for the other 90% of gamers, and non-gamers who got a Wii who don't play a game for 2 days, beat it, then complain there's nothing to do, I think we're doing OK. Add in the upcoming Big Brain Academy and Mario Party at the end of the month here, and we're still covered.
So please, trolls, enough with the "There's no good games!" We get it. You are uber-elite, have giant penises that the other guys in your dorm use to do pull ups on, and when your sweat touches the ground, hair grows there, and that's why you think the Wii doesn't have anything for you. The good news is, Microsoft and Sony are both fighting hard for your group - the 10% of the marketplace that consists of males 18 - 30. You've got plenty to play with, and when the PS3 drops to $400, I might join you.
Until then, I'm going to go home and watch my wife play with my Wii some more....
So yes, there are games that some people don't like. - rlg420, on 10/11/2007, -6/+16It's funny how people take this vgchartz site seriously when it says beta right after the name. If you want real figures then check with NPD.
- Zuggy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11Generally speaking it takes about a year before the killer games start coming out. The Xbox 360 is a prime example. About a year after release for Gears of War. I'm not saying that there won't be good games between now and then but we probably won't see anything killer until late summer or early fall.
- greeneyes137, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11I was in Soddy-Daisy TN at their walmart. They had 4 on the shelves there. No other wal-mart i've been in had any.
- Hockey37, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12It prints money!!!!!!
- diggan8, on 10/11/2007, -11/+19Impressive.
7 Million @ $249 (USD) = 1,743,000,000
ps. Keep in mind, Nintendo actually makes money on their consoles, unlike Sony and MS. Innovation prevails over graphics, who would have thought that! - sketchydave, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7"Anyone who had a wii since launch will probably testify, that the game library just isn't enough to keep them playing every day."
I really hope that more vendors take note of what is being done with Resident Evil 4. Take an existing, well done game, and remap the controls to take advantage of the more interactive Wii controllers. Sell it at a reduced price and you're guaranteed sales and profit right out of the gate.
What really sold me on the Wii was the fact that I can play the original Zelda and Super Mario Bros in my livingroom again. And one of the first things I did after getting the system was buy used a used copy of Resident Evil since I never had a GameCube and never really got into the series.
So by all means, produce new high quality games that really take advantage of the Wii controls. But don't forget about all of those EXISTING high quality games that could really shine on the Wii. - EtherGnat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7"I really don't understand how any adult male could want to play the wii."
Among other reasons, my wife loves playing the Wii. Instead of my frequently being in the doghouse because I was playing too much videogames, it's now something we do together and it brings us closer. So my wife's happier, and anything that makes my wife happier inevitably leads to ME being happier, which any "adult male" should understand. Unless they're gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+11That was as of March 31st. It is now May 17th.
- Augie1969, on 10/11/2007, -29/+35All I need now are some
MORE and BETTER GAMES!!!!!
plz? - walkingdogs, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Yeah but what about mario galaxy, ssbb, and metroid which will all be out this year and one probably competing directly with halo 3. one xbox360 game will not compete with the likes of these 3 titles
- dongiaconia, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8@DAaaMan64
Generally that comment might be valid, but in this case, you are pretty hard pressed to find a retailer with any. So it's nearly a 1:1 ratio for the Wii. Whatever Nintendo ships very quickly turns into sold units. I've yet to see them on the shelves beyond the day the shipment arrives. I'm not sure if your comment is true about Nintendo or not, but either way, even if it is true, it is irrelevant. - NSMike, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Maybe, but I doubt it. Microsoft can afford to pay a Japanese marketer.
I think the whole thing is that the Japanese mindset about the original XBox is so negative that they rejected the 360 outright. - airwalkery2k, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9Objection!
The sales numbers do not represent the number of console idly sitting in the shelves. They represent the number sold, which is extremely close to the number of Wiis produced and shipped. It still takes some dedication and pure luck to grab one at this point. Additionally, this is the worldwide count, so it may seem inflated. - porcupus, on 10/11/2007, -6/+11I'm loving the wii. Great for drinking games, plus the VC games make me happy. And I've been cleaning out EB games of all their used GC games
- MCHampster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5More marketshare for the consoles you own generally means more games made for those consoles. That's the difference.
Now, that's not to say that I believe in fanboyism... - TheGrizah, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8I'm actually quite surprised at how well the Wii is doing.
Oh that nintendo.... - glock22ownr, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6In related news Sony officials have been spotted crying and screaming WHY!!!!???
- postal21, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8People talk about how bad Ps3s are selling...
Check out 360 sales in Japan... such a great system the japanese are missing out on.
Microsoft fails at marketing to a different culture, Im sure some white guy in a suit makes all the decisions for what goes on in their japan division. - Zippo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Man, am I glad I pre-ordered.
- TheLD, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5There is no short supply in the UK anymore.
- russizm, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6My mom got a wii before me =[
- qwerty1024, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Do I need a firmware for this?
- Zephkiel, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5America isn't the world. If they wanted to calculate the total sales, they'd have to find all the weeks/months sales from Japan, Australia, Europe, and everywhere else that they sell Wiis. It's much easier to look on VGChartz and get an idea about how well it's selling.
- rdoger6424, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3you haven't tried boxing, have you...
- mattjumbo, on 10/11/2007, -7/+9Someone please tell me what all the PS3 and XBox 360 great games are that the Wii doesn't have? I keep reading this crap on boards. The Wii has plenty of good games for the amount of time its been out. Most of their games are boring ports but guess what....MOST OF EVERY SYSTEM'S GAMES ARE BORING PORTS!
No one who buys a Wii gives a rat's patootie whether or not Soldier-With-A-Big-Ass-Gun 2007 is out for the Wii. No one cares. - MCHampster, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3@johnhummel
Perfectly summed up, thank you. - hockey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2These reports are crucial for proper fanboi mental development. Without them they could go into withdrawal symptoms and suffer all sorts of mental and physical ailments requiring proper medical attention because going a single day without hourly updates on their precious systems would cause a total bodily breakdown.
Emergency rooms would be flooded with fanboi's on the brink of system shutdown and people with real problems would be stuck waiting bleeding to death while the fanboi's received their needed medical attention.
At least that's the only reason I can come up with why we see these postings every 5 minutes. . . . - tehgoatman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2the way wii is going the console selling to the retailer and the console ending up in the users hand are almost the same thing.
- Familyguykiller, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3They are selling very well and yesterday was the first time ive ever seen one at a store and there was only one I bet its gone now.
- BenKenobi88, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6VC games add so much value to the Wii...I'm hoping they do new, independent-made VC games soon.
- Moojack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I was at my local Walmart (Daphne, Alabama) last night, and they had 9 on the shelf. I guess it's one of the only good things about living in a small town.
- KingGoonie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Pretty long gimmick.
- EelfinnTy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Hopefully the supply problem will be over soon in your area. I saw 6 of them at my local walmart.
- KingGoonie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1ayww... i had a wii since launch and about 8 games that I think are at least good... most great..
So I am actually VERY happy with the games currently available. -
