- HCviolence, on 10/25/2008, -26/+388The Wii is not a system built around next gen graphics.
- cr42yr1ch, on 10/26/2008, -7/+215You mean current gen...
- TimeIsTissue, on 10/26/2008, -19/+124me too, except my wii sits in a corner unplugged
and the ps3 is actually an xbox 360 - HCviolence, on 10/25/2008, -23/+118Good graphics are nice to look at, but A Link To The Past and mario 3 are every bit as enjoyable as most next gen games.
With that being said a Wiimote with next gen physics and detail would rock. - headlessclown, on 10/25/2008, -18/+107not a huge surprise. which is why i have a wii and a ps3.
wii for the ninty exclusives like zelda and ps3 for everything else. - superal1394, on 10/25/2008, -30/+88But it would be very nice if Nintendo recognized half of the greatness of a game is its graphics. Sure gameplay is a big part, but I have to say its the combination of gameplay and graphics that got me hooked on the Half Life series, or Bioshock, or GTA IV, etc.
- DrunkenSavior, on 10/26/2008, -5/+59ALttP and SMB3 were considered pinnacles of their current graphical standards at the time.
- Minion133, on 10/26/2008, -7/+59next gen is the dumbest phrase ever.
there is only one gen, current. there cant be a next gen in present time.
afKJLEGKGKAESFHKFCFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF - skywake, on 10/26/2008, -11/+62Was that the right video? I didn't hear him say that the Wii was incapable of handling RE5 (although I HIGHLY doubt it is) just that he is very interested in what the Wii has to offer and is looking at making more RE games for it but doesn't have anything for it just yet. "Maybe in a year or two". To me that sounded more like a "yes we are making another RE game for Wii but we can't talk about it today" then a "the Wii is a piece of *****" like the title of this article is trying to imply.
The one thing I was thinking when watching this video was that it would be REALLY good if this game eventually comes to PC or the Wii with "toned down" graphics. Sure, they have given the option to allow more "PC gaming" like accuracy but its at the cost of NOT BEING ABLE TO MOVE WHILE SHOOTING..... :S - ookamiwarrior, on 10/26/2008, -7/+53I own a Wii and a PS3. I love them both, I really do.
However all of the best titles have been released on the Wii already. Super Paper Mario, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl: all fantastic and did things with their franchises and genres that blew me away. Each one is Nintendo, a couple good ports from Capcom, and it's all over. Wii Music is a joke, no games coming that even reference epic stories, battles, gameplay. Nothing game changing, nothing what the Wii promised.
Developers don't want to make a game that looks or preforms similar to a GameCube title. Nintendo has to understand that power does count for something. No it's not everything, but games like Okami, Prince of Persia and PixelJunk's Eden are artistic and beautiful. Games like Dead Space, Resident Evil 5, and Bioshock use lighting and awe-inspiring graphics to achieve immersion. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and others user powerful physics engines to create a more complex game and fighting/puzzle style that changes a genre.
Nintendo uses the Wii to provide a unique control style that can improve on various gameplay elements. Without the draws of the other abilities above, most third-party developers see the Wii Remote as a gimmick and make games that show their view.
Hell, at least it has the Virtual Console.
(More than happy to read replies to my bitching.) - Mohdoo, on 10/26/2008, -14/+54May as well mention how the Wii doesn't run windows, IMO. The Wii simply was not a system made for next gen graphics. The Wii has obviously had much different goals in mind.
- lacronicus, on 10/26/2008, -8/+44They are fun, but in a very different way. I sincerely doubt anyone would be able to immerse themselves in mario3 the same way they would half life or oblivion. It's just not the same.
- peestandingup, on 10/26/2008, -4/+40A lot of you have obviously never played the RE4 Wii edition. It ***** owns every other RE game, seriously. The control scheme is perfect.
I'd be happy with a lower-res version of RE5 for Wii. I dont care, just make it happen somehow Capcom. - speccy, on 10/26/2008, -3/+36If they made RE5 on the Wii with the same graphics standards as RE4, I'd be happy with that.
The Wii's control system is ideal for RE games. - Brii, on 10/26/2008, -4/+32I still play all the old Street Fighters, all the old King of Fighters, all the old Fatal Fury's, Super Mario RPG, Doom, and a dickton of Mega Man titles. You don't NEED graphics, gameplay can make up for it. But that equation is one sided, because you can't make up for ***** gameplay with good graphics.
I mean, look at even newer games, like Braid and Castle Crashers. Both are graphically simple by comparison to most games, but I couldn't put them down. - inactive, on 10/26/2008, -7/+35Wow RE5 looks amazing. I hope it comes to the PC.
- chhenderson, on 10/26/2008, -1/+27Not quite. All of the cutscenes from RE4 and RE5 are played in real time. So instead of just playing a video, the system actually has to render everything as if it were in-game.
- scabbers, on 10/26/2008, -7/+32Well, a site called nintendowiifanboy doesn't believe him, so surely it must be wrong lol.
- Brii, on 10/26/2008, -4/+28@kingmanic
Or you could just get a better computer. - daschupa, on 10/26/2008, -4/+28So in other words, RE5 will come out on the Wii in 2009 once they realize how much money they could make.
- Flamekebab, on 10/26/2008, -1/+23I think the sales figures would suggest rather assertively that the Wii hasn't failed. Perhaps it hasn't lived up to your personal standards and you may well not be alone, that said, the Wii has not failed in the slightest.
I liked the graphics of Super Mario Galaxy. - mileswj, on 10/26/2008, -1/+22Moron alert.
- Railoc, on 10/26/2008, -3/+24Hear hear. All of the Nintendo defense squad members need to realize that Nintendo doesn't even want their money anymore - it wants the casual gamer's money now, and it is getting it.
- Dustmuffins, on 10/26/2008, -2/+22Current gen.
- Math, on 10/26/2008, -2/+21You'd think that they'd be bending over backwards to do it considering how many copies of RE4 that they sold for the Wii.
- inactive, on 10/26/2008, -6/+23me three, except the ps3 is a 360 and the wii is currently selling on ebay.
- theragu40, on 10/26/2008, -0/+17I would love to hear your rationalization for how the wii "failed". Because love it or hate it, it has sold exponentially more units than the other two consoles.
- emjaymj, on 10/26/2008, -9/+26HALF the greatness of the game? As in, equal to the sum total of everything else? It would be very nice if developers actually used some of their efforts currently being put towards graphics to work more on the actual GAME aspect. The need for ever-improving graphics is largely responsible for the current state of video games, where just about everything is stale and uninspired.
- thebuggalo, on 10/26/2008, -1/+17DrunkenSavior, I was just logging in to say the same thing. Those games were beautiful in their day.
- lobsterxcore, on 10/26/2008, -3/+18buried for "head past the break"
- speccy, on 10/26/2008, -1/+16There are new Zeldas in development - both for Wii and DS
- kinship, on 10/26/2008, -14/+28Anyone else's wii gathering dust? Hell i havn't even finished the wii Zelda (it just didn't feel as epic and adventurous as Ocarina, or even Wind Waker) and Super Smash only gets picked up when there are 4 other ppl around too bored to get drunk..
Give us new Zelda =(, or let it play DVD's so i can get rid of my fugly dvd player heh - Blindside, on 10/26/2008, -0/+14Yeah and using that logic, American Idol is a great show full of quality content.
- phroztbyt3, on 10/26/2008, -44/+58Thus... another reason I use my 360 atleast once a week.. and my wii is just building up dust. what a poor decision I made to buy it... I knew it was a fad...yet I gave in.
- chaosblade77, on 10/26/2008, -2/+15I've only run into a few poor saps who have admitted they bought a Wii expecting more from the hardware. There are others that I'm sure are not happy with it and find other excuses, but I just can't understand why someone bought a Wii and complains because games are not up to the graphical standards of the games on their 360.
It's like buying vanilla ice cream in a cup and complaining that it's not rocky road and in a cone. - senae, on 10/26/2008, -0/+12Just too bad devs see it as a license to ignore both :(
- peestandingup, on 10/26/2008, -6/+17"What kind of "core" gamer only plays games on one platform?"
Douche bag posers. - insinuate, on 10/26/2008, -8/+18and here I was thinking it was gonna run the console version of Crysis =[
- skywake, on 10/26/2008, -10/+19I brought the Wii for console games with the thought that I already play PC games on my PC. To me the 360 and PS3 seem like low speced and heavily marketed gaming PCs without a KB and mouse. I turn on the Wii every other day for games that I never see on the PC, I don't think I will see it "collecting dust" for any period of time in the near future.
What kind of "core" gamer only plays games on one platform? - Azerael, on 10/26/2008, -1/+10http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_video
"High-definition (HD) video generally refers to any video system of higher resolution than standard-definition (SD) video, most commonly at display resolutions of 1280×720 (720p) or 1920×1080 (1080i or 1080p)."
They magically managed to make the Wii output 720p, did they? - Math, on 10/26/2008, -10/+18Resident Evil 4 looked pretty damn good to me, had a ton of enemies on screen at once and ran well on a PS2.
I'm not particlarly impressed by the graphics jump this generation, compared to previous generations. If you upgraded from a NES to an SNES and then to a N64, you could load any game and immediately see a huge difference.
Moving from an XBox to an XBox 360, there's better lighting and a little higher resolution textures, but basically unless you're a hardcore gamer, the average joe doesn't notice a huge difference compared to the significant leaps of earlier generations. I would argue that all the consoles this generation are just 1.5 versions of the respective consoles of the previous generation. - Brii, on 10/26/2008, -1/+9I was unaware of that. Thank you for the info. That gives me a lot more respect for those games, even though RE4 has just about as much respect as can be gotten from me.
- CheeseBiscuits, on 10/26/2008, -0/+8The guy that said it is Masachika Kawata. The guy in the video is Juntake Uchi.
- Darkangel754, on 10/26/2008, -2/+10Seems strange for them to say that since both RE4 and Umbrella Chronicles sold over a million copies. Resident Evil controls on wii were PERFECTED going back to aiming with an analog stick will feel like big downgrade.
- InfernoX, on 10/26/2008, -2/+10Gee I dunno, I guess Capcom doesn't want to recode the RE5 engine from the ground up to accomodate the Wii?
CoD5's engine( extension of the cod4 engine) was already on the PC, which means it could scale very well to weaker hardware. Capcom( and all Japanese developers) suck ass at PC ports, which means the engine is not optimized for varying hardware.( specifically lower spec) Therefore, in order to have the game run on the Wii they'd have to optimize the engine to run on lower end hardware. - frositay, on 10/26/2008, -0/+8RPG don't work on console? Final Fantasy.
- Spem, on 10/26/2008, -0/+8Because some of us loved RE4 for the Wii, as it even offered something new to the game itself versus previous iterations. However, given RE5's coop and action focus, there may not be as many people who would want to buy it anyway.
- Lazerz, on 10/26/2008, -4/+12NFS:Undercover will not be on the Wii. I don't know where you heard that it had impressive graphics for the Wii.
Developers consider the Wii Gen 2.5 and the 360/Ps3 Gen 3.0. If you compare the different versions of SW:Force Unleashed, the Wii version resembles the PS2 version more than the PS3/360 versions.
The Wii's target audience is younger, less hardcore, and more casual than Xbox360 and PS3. Younger audiences are less concerned with graphical abilities to display detail and gore. - EtherGnat, on 10/26/2008, -0/+8Yes, you made a poor decision to buy the Wii, but your reasoning is off. Just because a system is not geared towards yourself and hardcore gamers does not make it a "fad". A fad would not still be selling more hardware and software than its rivals after two years. Yes, I know the 360 has a higher attach rate--people love to digg me down when I claim Wii software sales are strong--but if you do your research you'll find the Wii is selling substantially more software than the competition.
The Wii is geared towards a different market--that much was clear to me from before the system was ever released. I don't know why this bothers people so much; there are two fantastic consoles just killing themselves going after the hardcore gamer. If Nintendo had followed that strategy I doubt they would have survived. There's just no way the could have kept up with Microsoft and Sony in the graphical arms race. -
