- tophu, on 11/26/2007, -3/+150Grey? Dude, how dirty is your house?
- Icupnimpn2, on 11/26/2007, -9/+68I'm looking forward to ignoring more 3rd party titles.
- h0ly, on 11/26/2007, -7/+51"Fanboys"? "Grey box"?
- zengonzo, on 11/26/2007, -3/+45Honestly, give me Brawl and I doubt I would even look at anything else for at least a year anyways ..
- Paroparo, on 11/26/2007, -2/+34Third party games were pretty weak for most of 2007, but that's just because most of them started production in... well 2007. That's what happens when developers are caught with their pants down, and realise they need to release something for the best selling console.
2008 is looking much better, as there are already at least 10 announced games I would buy if I could afford to. A year ago we still didn't know anything about Zack&Wiki, No More Heroes, or Umbrella Chronicles, so we can rest assured there will be loads of great games we haven't even heard of yet.
The release lists of the HD consoles undeniably look a lot better, but they have much more delayed games and sequels that were announced ages ago. In around 6 months we'll know if the rumoured developer shift to the Wii is really happening, and just how big it is. - theragu40, on 11/26/2007, -1/+31Really? I don't know, I'm kind of excited about Spore, Okami, No More Heroes, and Dragon Quest. That's over a third of the list.
- inactive, on 11/26/2007, -1/+28Damnit, I still need to pick up a copy of Metroid Prime 3. Shoot, I dunno how people complain about the lack of games. Granted, I don't buy games that often, but the ones I've gotten have certainly lasted me (especially when you factor in VC releases - I've missed out on some real gems there).
You know, I'm actually very much looking forward to Dr. Mario on the Wii Ware channel. Man, I loved that game as a kid. Oddly enough, though, I never owned a copy myself. I had a crappy black and white TV in my room, and renting Dr. Mario was one of my only legitimate excuses for using the big color TV in the living room to play Nintendo (because you can't really tell the pills apart on a black and white set). Oh, the days when playing video games in color was a treat. - inactive, on 11/26/2007, -1/+24Not even Mario Kart? You're right though... Both Mario Kart and Brawl promise to be those sorts of games that you just end up playing non-stop for months on end. I mean, firstly, isn't that always what happens when either a new Mario Kart or a new Smash Bros. game comes out? And they've both got online play, too... Good God, both of these stand a decent chance at replacing Team Fortress 2 as my "Game that just sucks my life away for months on end."
- funnydale, on 11/26/2007, -1/+20Hopefully, I'll be looking forward to being able to randomly walk into a store, and pick one off the shelves.
- inactive, on 11/26/2007, -3/+20He lives with 'playstation dude'.
- tdogg241, on 11/26/2007, -0/+16So you bitch about sequels, yet a follow-up to Nights is the only reason you're keeping the system? Your opinion is consistent.
- Paroparo, on 11/26/2007, -2/+17The last time we got a Mario Kart game on a console was in 2003, and the previous Smash Bros. game came out in 2001. That's some really bad rehashing, isn't it? -_-
- thephosphorbox, on 11/26/2007, -0/+15I'm sorry but no kid would say to a parent, "Mommy I want a Wii for Christmas cuz it's the CHEAPEST!! YEEAHHHH!"
Your logic is flawed, sir. - Adonai, on 11/26/2007, -0/+143 of the 11 titles are Nintendo "another iteration IPs", one is a new IP altogether (Wii Fit), and the rest are third party titles (Square-Enix, Capcom, Grasshopper Manufacture, Maxis, Sega, etc). It doesn't even mention another Nintendo new IP (Disaster: Day of Crisis, although who knows when that may come out in '08) and really the only true "Port" is Okami, which was a critically acclaimed PS2 title and could fit very well with the Wiimote. Considering that a large portion of high-profile upcoming games are recurring IPs (GTAIV, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Mario Kart, Brawl, MGS4, Gears of War 2, etc) I don't really see why you find it so necessary to bash on Nintendo when, compared to the gamecube days, they are dramatically improving on their Third Party support. and unique IP generation.
- heysuburbia, on 11/26/2007, -3/+17I think that a new Zelda will show up in late '08 early '09. One made for the Wii specifically. Twilight Princess was made for the GameCube.
- flair1, on 11/26/2007, -6/+19Hey 360 and PS3 fanboys. Try inviting girls over for a 360 or PS3 party and see if they show up. Works like a champ with a Wii.
- Mrstupid7, on 11/26/2007, -0/+12In almost all the games I have I don't wave my arms. If anything it's a slight shake of the wrist.
- inactive, on 11/26/2007, -2/+143) The kind that have it, and play it?
- notorious., on 11/26/2007, -1/+13Katamari Damacy?
- sponeil, on 11/26/2007, -3/+14They forgot the most important one (coming out in Spring 2008):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Force_Unleashed - nicko68, on 11/26/2007, -1/+12Sure, they are tapping the market that doesn't care about the latest greatest HD graphics and just want fun games. Why not congratulate themselves? They found a niche market in both the handheld and console markets while Microsoft and Sony fight over the rest.
- directive0, on 11/26/2007, -0/+10I love how you pulled that stat out of nowhere. But wouldn't you say its success is due more to it being the only console aimed at the biggest gaming market out there?
- flair1, on 11/26/2007, -0/+10don't get a job in picking trends. you suck at it.
- AwesomeAndy, on 11/26/2007, -0/+10There's been exactly one Mario Kart game per console at this point starting with the SNES. I doubt that will change. Honestly, it's not like any of the other consoles are any better. GTA4 (ignoring four unnumbered sequels after 3), Halo 3, Ratchet and Clank #whatever, etc. Nintendo's managed to keep the series fresh like other developers. There's plenty of new games coming or out: No More Heroes, Zach and Wiki, and so on.
- metapop, on 11/26/2007, -3/+13well, his name is "Exhaust"...
- merdiesel, on 11/26/2007, -2/+12Mario Kart will be the game that gets my playing my Wii on an everyday basis like Wii Sports first did.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 11/26/2007, -0/+9"Aftermath"? "Forward"? "in"?
- razmig, on 11/26/2007, -2/+11what about pikmin?
- MonsterChaOS, on 11/26/2007, -0/+9Don't forget Nitrobike... It doesn't get much press, but the vids I have seen look like to much fun!
- flair1, on 11/26/2007, -1/+10quit crying and sell it on ebay for more than you paid for the Wii.. your complaints sound like a mad 360 owner.
try selling a used 360 on ebay for more than you paid for it. - zengonzo, on 11/26/2007, -0/+9Because it is FUN.
- jaderobbins, on 11/26/2007, -2/+10I'm thinking with the surge in interest for the Wii because of the holidays you really can't say that wii owners are "fanboys", a closer term would be "average consumers".
- greenblob, on 11/26/2007, -1/+9I'm predicting a decent online FPS for the Wii next year (decent as in Heroes 2 gameplay + better maps + voice chat). Metroid and Heroes 2 broke the ice, and now several companies should start venturing back in the FPS realm for the Wii.
- andshewas, on 11/26/2007, -0/+8Dude, STFU. Those games are timeless.
- Nikole, on 11/26/2007, -13/+21this fangirl is pleased
- liwii, on 11/26/2007, -2/+9Definitely #1: Super Smash Bros. Brawl and #2: Mario Kart Wii. Both are online. Both have friend codes so I recommend adding yours to http://mapwii.com since Nintendo doesn't have any easy way for you to find people locally to play online with - just randomly and regionally.
- Cerebral, on 11/26/2007, -3/+9Didn't you just read the whole "things girls hear on Xbox Live" from last week... LAME.
- rizla420, on 11/26/2007, -0/+6ditto. I lent my wii to my little sister a few months ago and told her she can hang onto it until Mario Kart comes out. Then i'll reclaim it.
- jgoodstein, on 11/26/2007, -0/+6I thought I was the only one that caught that. you get to play with lightsabers PEOPLE!!!
- Mrstupid7, on 11/26/2007, -2/+8The graphics might be slightly watered down but I don't see why gameplay would be watered down at all.
- yohnstoppable, on 11/26/2007, -1/+7I grew up on Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter 2. As you can see both of those series have achieved about as much as Terry Schiavo since then. And none of the other series have grabbed me in the same way. I can try to bash the other fighting games, but the fact is I'm just not really into fighting games. Super Smash brothers is just plain fun for me, though.
- Epacitythug, on 11/26/2007, -3/+9Grey Wii? Its probably the same guy with the dusty PS3
- LupeFiasco, on 11/26/2007, -1/+7Mario Kart double dash was a disappointment? really? i had no idea that so many people did not like the game. With 4 friends that know the game well, it's still one of the best party games I think.
- Megaten, on 11/26/2007, -0/+5They added an entirely new co-op way of playing in Double Dash (granted it might not have worked so well). Mario Kart DS added bona-fide online play, as well as playing absolutely terrific and boasting a slew of great original tracks, along with some of the series' best. With this new Wii version, we're gonna step it up to 16 player online, have fun new Wii controls, motorcycles are being added...I really don't see how you can say it's just a string of small updates. Tell that to oh, I don't know...the Project Gotham series, the Halo series, the Unreal series, the Ratchet and Clank series, basically every Lucasarts adventure game...I mean, if that's an actual complaint you hold against it or any of those fantastic franchises, you might just want to find a new hobby - cause it's how it works in gaming. Maybe if you didn't play...say, Halo 2 when Bungie first changed the grenade damage/melee damage in the first major patch or when they introduced BR starts in specific hardcore playlists you'd say those were 'small stupid' changes. The Halo community was singing quite a different tune about it, however - saying these are small changes just makes it look like you have no idea about the details within these franchises.
Oh, and for what it's worth - the new Nights isn't gonna be a worthwhile game for you. It's clearly skewing to a younger, simpler audience this time around. Sure, Nights into Dreams wasn't exactly the poster child of 'hardcore' gaming...but it seems they're taking it even more steps into the casual demo. this time around. Personally I don't mind that, but your opinions on Mario Kart and Smash seem to indicate that it'd probably not be your cup of tea. - inactive, on 11/26/2007, -0/+5Yes, I realize that color TVs weren't exactly new or anything, but not everyone's made of money, you know. By and by, I actually don't currently own an HDTV. I think it's silly to just run out and buy the newest thing when whatever you've currently got works perfectly fine. What's up with all these people who, if something isn't new, they won't even touch it?
- inactive, on 11/26/2007, -1/+6Dear God yes.
- vulapine, on 11/26/2007, -0/+4Except that we were waiting an extra year or so for TP to come out. It may have felt rushed to you, but it was way late in release.
- decay, on 11/26/2007, -2/+6Wow, what a pimp.
- nicko68, on 11/26/2007, -6/+10Mario Kart looks like it will be awesome.
- NathanielJ, on 11/26/2007, -0/+4Yeah, never mind that Mario Galaxy is called by many sources one of the most innovative games in years, and Super Paper Mario has absolutely no game like it before it (even in the same series).
But yeah, the games all have Mario in the title, so the games must be rehashes. -
