- dumass4u, on 07/08/2009, -6/+41Say what you want Wii sports is a fun party game, and the motion plus controllers are supposed to be pretty damn responsive
- sinizuh, on 07/08/2009, -1/+30Technically Wii Sports was the highest selling game for the Wii (since it came with the console), and a lot of people only played that (didn't even bother buying additional games). So a sequel to the most played game on a console, would probably sell like hot cakes.
- aaronoog, on 07/08/2009, -1/+23I'm just waiting for them to announce a motion plus light-saber game.
- billricardi, on 07/08/2009, -3/+21I'm not shocked. On my consumer electronics site, anything featuring Wii is consistently within the top 2 sellers of that day. Rumors of the death of the Wii have been greatly exaggerated.
- jasmus, on 07/08/2009, -3/+19I agree, and I'm so sick of people who aren't even in the target market for the game bitching about other people liking it.
Big props to Nintendo for getting people other than "Hardcore 1337 gamorz" to want to play games again. A couple of times I've been at a party, and when the Wii gets turned on, EVERYONE wants to have a go and 99% of the time end up having FUN. Try busting out Random Brown-and-Grey Hardcore FPS 4 and see who cares.
Those games have their place, and so do these. Be thankful that Nintendo is introducing people to games that would have otherwise ignored them, you never know, you might end up fighting against them on you Hardcore FPS in the future. - markus6986, on 07/08/2009, -0/+15In Japan anyways, the Wii was actually sold without the Wii Sports pack-in. Yet, it still sold crazy well. Just pointing that out.
- rpgguy1o1, on 07/08/2009, -4/+18Wii sports resort is fun as hell.
It's selling well because it's really really good. - Logjammer, on 07/08/2009, -4/+14With such a dismissive attitude of it, it's odd that you spent extra money to import a copy from Japan so you could play it before it even came out here. I mean, you obviously did, since you know it's shovelware that lacks good content. Your comment would be asinine and stupidly uninformed, otherwise.
- NextGenXbox, on 07/08/2009, -1/+11Exactly how well do hot cakes sell?
- wsuBobby, on 07/08/2009, -4/+14Umm... what's this face palm for?
- sanman, on 07/08/2009, -3/+12I already bought the Motionplus, even though I couldn't buy any game to go with it, just because I was concerned they'd become really hard to get a hold of soon.
Wii Sports Resort will be out after another couple of weeks, and I'm already pre-ordered for that. I liked the idea of the archery, the sword gaming, ping pong and basketball. The reviews say that all the variations on these are fun. - HughesAP, on 07/08/2009, -8/+16The game looks like it will be fun
- FlashX12, on 07/09/2009, -3/+11Looks like a fun game, I'll probably buy it. And I hate the fags going, "DIS IS NOT HARDCORE GAMING." Most popular games for the PS3 & Xbox are simple online shooters, I know since I own a PS3. WGAS if the game does not fit the definition of 'hardcore'. I do realize Nintendo has done poorly with the Mario & Zelda series lately, but I'll give them praise when they release a fun-looking game like Wii Sports Resort.
- IllBeBack, on 07/08/2009, -1/+9I've got it on preorder with Amazon.com right now. It looks like it will be fun.
- sirron811, on 07/09/2009, -2/+9well dude - sometimes you just wanna have some people over and play some games for fun.
now turn off the PS3 and invite some girls over, give them some drinks and show them some wii games on which they can sing or virtually punch each other. - rocknog, on 07/08/2009, -1/+8Is the Wii putting Sony and Microsoft out of business? Did I miss something? You have not one, but two consoles to choose from that cater to the hardcore crowd, so cry me a ***** river.
- uberduger, on 07/09/2009, -0/+6I wouldn't buy them.
I got scammed once, see. I tried to buy a cake from some people called Aperture or something - a science company, real respectable looking, like - and it turns out that there *was* no cake.
:( - kinseyincanada, on 07/08/2009, -11/+17that seems totally low to me, i figured this game would sell like super crack not like regular crack.
- MrFisty, on 07/09/2009, -0/+5That's like saying "The death of the automotive industry thanks to the Smart car."
Besides you should play House of the Dead Overkill. Hardly a kids game. There are a few decent non-kiddie games for Wii. Not many, but if you look you can find some good ones. For a lot of people, the Wii is a secondary console anyway. Use your PS3 or 360 or PC for your "hardcore" if that's what you want to call it, then the Wii as your "softcore". - Elranzer, on 07/09/2009, -0/+5I like hot cakes, but I wish McDonald's would sell them all day, rather than just before 10:00AM.
- TimDigg, on 07/09/2009, -1/+6..............................and I just can't hide it
I'm about to lose control and I think I like it - heysuburbia, on 07/08/2009, -1/+6WMP is VERY responsive, I wrote about my hands on with the game:
http://www.wiinintendo.net/2009/06/27/i-go-hands-o ... - Elranzer, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4Really? Nintendo is dominating the world and Sony is going bankrupt. What's your message again?
- AmazingAndrex, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4Japanese sales of DS and Wii have actually been the lowest of the three major areas worldwide for a while now. America is actually the most obsessed with Nintendo, regular DS Lite sales a continually strong and Wii is no slouch either, not to mention DSi.
- jasmus, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3Hardcore.
- rocknog, on 07/09/2009, -1/+4Unless hardcore gamers stop buying games, there will always be a hardcore market, dumbass. The number of hardcore gamers isn't shrinking, the number of overall gamers is increasing. You're treating the game market like a zero-sum game, and that's simply not the case.
And it's not the first time this has happened. I remember when the Playstation hit the market, and suddenly there was a surge of jocks which boosted demand for sports games and endless shooters. I'm more of a retrogamer myself (Mario, Zelda, Castlevania, and Metroid are my bread and butter) and I was afraid the popularity of the Playstation/Playstation 2 would be the death of my kind of gaming. Turned out I was dead wrong. The market hadn't shifted, it had simply expanded, and there was room for everyone. - rocknog, on 07/08/2009, -1/+4It was also one of the few Wii games that was both good and made the Wii controls integral to the gameplay.
- o0joshua0o, on 07/09/2009, -1/+4With the motion plus, Nintendo is finally delivering on the promise they made when the Wii first came out: true motion controls. And it really works this time, folks. The days of waggle will soon come to an end.
- Elranzer, on 07/09/2009, -1/+4Aren't the drunk frat boy types the ones who go all boner for PS3 and 360?
- migvel, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2You are right...
NINTENDO is just going after another target. IF you have microsoft and sony chasing the hardcore gamer target that nintendo was after for, nintendo just chose going after the casual gamer that was always "in the shadow". I know it was mostly for money not for compassion, but i cant blame them, after all that's their goal and the goal of all companies. That decition was probably made by a huuuge group of publicists and marketeers and of course they are not wrong, look at the money they are making (omg, it prints money!). - dugbay, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2Poorley w/ Mario and Zelda???
Are you saying Galaxy is bad?
They dont release a Zelda game every year. - Elranzer, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2PC gamers are so obnoxious. No wonder you guys have the reputation of the perpetual virgin. Every time you guys rant, I just picture Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons.
- elstevo, on 07/09/2009, -1/+3Wii Sports Resort featuring: Frisbee... there's nothing cooler than simulated Frisbee
- rocknog, on 07/08/2009, -2/+3The main gripe is that it's yet another thing that should've been included at launch. Well, that and you've got the hardcore fanboys, but honestly I don't know what they're problem is, they've got their systems. But yeah, it's just another one of those things that makes the launch Wii feel more like an open beta.
- Narrwald, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1Or the rest of the world.
- AndrewDB, on 07/09/2009, -2/+3Nintendo is alienating it's core base in favor of making crappy games.
Bring back games like Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
Stop with these ***** titles like Wii Sports Resort.. either that or do both! - Koushiro, on 07/08/2009, -2/+3Yet another fun title to share with the family. Need to get myself a copy of Rune Factory Frontier too now that I think of it.
- MRintheKeys, on 07/09/2009, -0/+0It was.
- Spacejack, on 07/09/2009, -1/+0Story driven games have always been and will always be a niche. The market share will be about the same as it ever was. The vast majority of people play games for the play, not for a story. This is as true of video games as it is for any other sort of game. Checkers is more popular than D&D. But so is chess, and who's is more "hardcore", a chess grandmaster or a dungeon master? Or David Beckham? Apples and oranges (and mangoes and beer). Neither is so toxic that it can keep the other out of the world.
- allisonV12, on 07/24/2009, -1/+0Wii porn with true motion controls...still waiting for that
- totallyRo, on 07/08/2009, -9/+6probably the best facepalm ive seen in a while.
- MRintheKeys, on 07/09/2009, -4/+0Good as in a demonstration software. Terrible as in representation of their respective sports.
Wii Sports Boxing - inabiltiy to move character around the screen
Wii Sports Baseball - Pitching/hitting fine, forget about doing anything else
Wii Sports Golf - Swinging is ok, putting is fundamentally broken
Wii Sports Tennis - inability to have any control over the movement of your player
Wii Sports Bowling - the only one that really feels like a good representation of the sport
Basically Wii Sports is hot stuff if you are only a "casual" participant of the sports they are trying to imitate. - totallyRo, on 07/09/2009, -4/+0yeah maybe im a bit paranoid about what the wii will do to the core market. which is what i design games for now, and will in the future once out of college, which might add to my paranoia due to the fact that the games i want to make there might not be a market for. and while the market is expanding i agree, i just see it expanding more toward a casual games, with the announcement of natal and the sony motion cotrol 2.0, i think this just adds to it, although were gonna have to wait an see on these two. i mean look at the nxe on the 360, that was a shift towards casual. i just see in the future, at the rate the wii is going and ms and sony are trying that the hardcore market, and hardcore story driven games will decrease.
- HALNINETHOUSAND, on 07/08/2009, -13/+10I want it now! That is all. :)
- petard, on 07/08/2009, -8/+3Wow it is split even with people who agree and disagree. I agree with the facepalm.
- totallyRo, on 07/08/2009, -5/+0nope. i play pc bro. and what i was saying is that the huge, and unexpected growth of the wii has brought casual games to the mainstream, with core gamers losing out. as less and less people play hardcore games, and more and more play carnival games XV for the wii, developers will leave hardcore gamers in the dust. Developers will be less willing in today's economy to make a game that caters to the now minority (hardcore gamers) when then can almost be guaranteed a profit from making puppy simulator 9 or whatever. While i respect nintendo for their pure innovation, those guys have balls of steel for trying somthing like the wii, or ds, and it has propelled gaming into the mainstream. Personally i just dont care for the console, as i see it as nothing but a gimmick, a gimmick which has potential to revolutionize control and interface, but has been squandered by every soccer mom and old person looking for shovelware like this.
please respond because i want to hear what you think the wii has/will do for the hardcore crowd and the industry in general. - PhrosTT, on 07/08/2009, -9/+3Ordered the tiger woods motion plus bundle on newegg ($60 shipped). Why is everybody hating on moplus? Sports 2 will be like the 5th worthwhile game on the system.
- totallyRo, on 07/08/2009, -16/+7the fact that such a casual game that lack's good content, and is practically shovel ware can sell this good, while a truly innovative game like say indigo prophecy or psychonauts sells like piss.
- TruEKuma, on 07/08/2009, -11/+2Stay at home moms and drunk frat boys rejoice.
