People STILL can't find Wiis.
That's amazing (in an awesome way) - bluetytanium, on 11/19/2007, -0/+77It prints money!
- ff4marvel, on 11/19/2007, -4/+70just wait till SSBB comes out if you want to see a REAL shortage of supply
- inactive, on 11/19/2007, -0/+66And they don't even need to throw in 15 free movies or drop their price.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 11/19/2007, -2/+52Not sure what you're trying to say, but the Wii has already surpassed the 360 in worldwide sales.
- sanman, on 11/19/2007, -4/+46Halo3 was a blip
Now it's back to Wii domination - tadj, on 11/19/2007, -5/+46Wii sales have been at ~300,000 for the last few weeks now (1.2m per month) - I think they are going to struggle massively to meet demand if they are only going to ship 1.8m for Nov and Dec - especially with Black Friday coming up!!
http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php - coheedcollapse, on 11/19/2007, -21/+57I swear some Digg users get off on this stuff. It's interesting in moderation, but with something like seven articles per week saying the same thing (Wii is destroying!) it can get a bit old. This is coming from someone who picked one up on the first day.
- inactive, on 11/19/2007, -0/+34Here's why you cant get one...
Bob unloads the truck at Walmart. Bob is a good employee. But Bob has alot of friends, and Bob has a cell phone. So the moment a shipment comes in, Bob calls his friends, and doesnt ...quite... put the stock on the shelves just yet.....
***** Bob. - sanman, on 11/19/2007, -1/+30Retailers are getting smart and selling their Wiis as part of bundles
Makes sense - if they can't raise the prices, then at least they can tack on other stuff that will create wider sales movement in games, etc - SFX112, on 11/19/2007, -2/+27No, the DS prints money. The Wii is a machine that makes machines that print money.
- Coven, on 11/19/2007, -3/+28vertical widescreen now?
- leonhyral, on 11/19/2007, -0/+24He's referring to SSBB creating a massive need for the Wii; not SSBB having the shortage itself. I found it rather easy to understand.
- battletrax, on 11/19/2007, -2/+24
The singer is ugly on all the systems. Besides the point of the game is to play guitar. Your gonna miss alot of notes staring at the band members. - Feep, on 11/19/2007, -1/+23Wait, what? The PS3 is fun?
- Megaten, on 11/19/2007, -1/+22Um...it might be that not a single one of these falls into your personal preferences, but for the record let me say that this whole notion of 'no good games' has got to ***** end already. Lemmie name off the games I've loved or intend to play when I get through with my current batch:
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Battalion Wars 2
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Donkey Kong Bongo Blast
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
Resident Evil 4 (in case you haven't played it yet I suppose)
Super Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime 3
Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbados' Treasure
Super Paper Mario
Super Mario Strikers
Trauma Center: New Blood
MLB Power Pros (oh god, no joke - this is the most arcady-awesome baseball game ever)
Elebits
Excite Truck (the lowish ratings this game got still boggle my mind)
Super Monkey Ball
And then, yes...there are some fun party games for it like you just made a jab at:
Mario Party 8
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games
Warioware: Smooth Moves
Rayman: Raving Rabbids
Wii Sports
Wii Play (maybe not to some, but my friends all love playing Pool and that Laser Pong thing on it, not to mention Tanks)
And on top of that, there are some great games that are either also on console, or are getting good scores but I can't personally say I'd play them (but do indicate that there are plenty of quality games available if they did suite someone's tastes):
Guitar Hero 3
Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga
SSX Blur
Madden '08
Scarface
Godfather: Blackhand Edition
Medal of Honor Heroes 2
Manhunt 2
Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution
Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2
God, and please anyone who reads this and doesn't own a Wii and instead prefers a 360 or PS3 - get your head out of your ass on this whole 'bashing' Wii's good games as well. When I tell my friends that Elebits or Super Monkey Ball are fun games, all I hear are silly little snickers when they tell me how much better the 360's games are. I'm constantly shocked by this, cause it isn't like I don't own a 360 myself. When they start naming games like The Darkness, Dead Rising, Lost Planet, etc...to me and call THOSE quality titles but the Wii's are somehow subpar - I mean seriously, some people need to get a clue about these things. Personally, from the games I own on the 360, all I can say is that the selection lacks any sort of diversity (And I mean, I like some awkward stuff on that thing...Wartech: Senke no Rondo, Bullet Witch, Earth Defense Force...) beyond mostly being a shooter's paradise (don't get me wrong, I love em too). On the Wii though, I have a great Strat RPG in Fire Emblem, a great adventure game in Zelda, good action games like Battalion Wars 2, fun racing games like Excite Truck, sports games with Mario Strikers and Power Pros, a solid RPG with Paper Mario, one of the best platformers ever with Mario Galaxy, and then some games I could only experience on the Wii or DS in games like Trauma Center and Elebits. So to say the console is only showcasing party games - a bit naive. - riverstyx, on 11/19/2007, -9/+30"Why do people want a Wii?"
Because they can't have one!! It's the oldest psychology trick in the book, mwahahahah! - RNEMESiS42, on 11/19/2007, -1/+20This sucks, I've been trying to get a damn Wii since it's the only next gen system I can afford, and it's nowhere to be found. Even with those Wii-finder websites! :/
- drjones78, on 11/19/2007, -2/+21Hes saying no one else would have had the creativity or balls to take gaming in a new direction as the wii, on such a fundamental level.
- riverstyx, on 11/19/2007, -2/+20I still like Nintendo after all these years. They did give us the original NES, where would we be without the original Castlevania, Zelda, Punch Out, Mario 3, Rescue Mission, Rad Racer, Contra and a whole bunch of other ones I cant remember.
Remember that movie "The Wizard"? You know its been almost 20 years since that movie came out? If that don't make you feel old, nothing will, Suckers!! - Phyltre, on 11/19/2007, -2/+18I'm glad the Wii is keeping competition really strong, and I hope we have a strong (at least) 3-way competition for the foreseeable future. Nintendo is profiting from oodles of hardware sales, Microsoft owns software attach rates, and the PS3...well...I hear it has movies and might cure cancer.
- thatcrazycommie, on 11/19/2007, -2/+18Man, I got a Wii on launch day, and it wasn't especially difficult. I think anyone who hasn't managed to find one after a year is really not trying that hard.
- MasterPlayer, on 11/19/2007, -0/+16Wow, that is amazing. I still haven't made the plunge, but I am going to take advantage of the Toys R' Us Wii deal (buy 2 games get 1 free). Metroid Prime 3, Zelda and Mario Galaxy here I come.
- dezman2003, on 11/19/2007, -5/+20The wii is stopping that from happening how exactly?
- MrSteamTank, on 11/19/2007, -1/+15Because unpopular consoles die and games no longer get produced for it. RIP Dreamcast. 8P
- Jorge777, on 11/19/2007, -0/+14I really hope that's not 1.8M globally for November and December otherwise I'm starting to wonder when this shortage is finally going to really give Nintendo some damage and an advantage to the other consoles
- sanman, on 11/19/2007, -26/+40I agree. If Nintendo hadn't come up with the Wii, then 10 years from now we'd be blindly chasing 5000x8000 resolution, and game designers would be modeling dental cavities and dandruff, bragging about how this would bring "a whole new level of refreshing realism" to the gaming community.
- brufleth, on 11/19/2007, -0/+13And then Bob's friends put those Wiis on Ebay and buy Bob a case of beer.
- rofflecopter, on 11/19/2007, -5/+18Yeah I got fed up with calling stores and going down and there not been any Wii's in stock, I finally caved and paid 30 bucks extra to buy one off of ebay...
- terminal157, on 11/19/2007, -0/+13Actually, it's popularity directly effects how much fun you can have with it, as the system's popularity is a huge factor in how many games come out for it and how much variety there is among those games.
- skywake, on 11/19/2007, -6/+18http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php
see that point where the 360 goes above the Wii for about two weeks? Halo 3
Other then that the 360 and PS3 can't compete with the Wii and I think at this point its a battle between the two for 2nd. What else do they have that will be able to compete with Galaxy, Brawl and Kart? Not to mention the "casual games" like Wii Fit, Wii Music and such that may be just as popular as Wii Sports itself. Unless some other company comes into this or either Sony or Microsoft come up with something that is truly revolutionary then I don't think the Wii can be stopped. On a side note I think Sony is looking more and more like Sega everyday which can be either a bad thing or a good thing for Sony but will hopefully be a good thing for us. - opnickc, on 11/19/2007, -0/+12I posted this on another story:
"It's selling twice as fast as any other home console ever, therefore, Nintendo was never prepared to build as many units as they are, let alone enough to fully meet demand.
I mean, if you were selling a new blender, and the fastest selling blender in the past sold 50,000 units per month (completely arbitrary number), would you really plan to produce 100,000/month? 200,000/month?" - milliamp, on 11/19/2007, -1/+13From: http://nexgenwars.com/
Wii: 12,756,757
360: 12,490,292
PS3: 5,280,806 - TheClassic, on 11/19/2007, -0/+11You're half right. How much fun you have on your game console is a function of how popular it is and how much fun I allow you to have.
- DagMX, on 11/19/2007, -0/+12Metroid Prime 3?
Rayman Raving Rabbids?
Warioware?
Super paper Mario? - solidus636, on 11/19/2007, -4/+16Well then you are an idiot.
- ELCad, on 11/19/2007, -0/+111.8 million a month is not 'mass producing'?
- JazzFlight, on 11/19/2007, -1/+12Even after checking a Toys R Us every Sunday morning at opening?
I just went in today (just for the buy 2 get 1 free on wii games) and there were plenty of systems to go around if you waited on a line for about 10-15 minutes. - blahtastic, on 11/19/2007, -0/+11Wouldn't that be tallscreen?
- ELCad, on 11/19/2007, -0/+10Jazzy's right get up early on Sunday. I was at Toys R Us today also to get the 3 games for the price of 2 Wii games sale and they had what looked like a 100 Wiis. They sold out out in about 30 mins.
I got mine back in March by waiting an hour on a Sunday at a Best Buy and they had only 20 then. Then I had to look for 2 more weeks to find a second Wii-mote. - SEANWOOKIE, on 11/19/2007, -1/+11I love the Power Glove it's so bad.
- drjones78, on 11/19/2007, -6/+16Console gaming vs PC gaming is like comparing mcdonalds to fine dining.
Get a PC if you want to play real games, vs real players in a multiplayer environment where it actually takes skill to compete.
The Wii is a casual console gaming gimmick system, but thats exactly what the console market is. Id take it over any of the other consoles any day. - DraconWolf, on 11/19/2007, -0/+10They're making 1.8 million a month and still selling out like crazy. This is up from the 500,000 they were initially producing per month. They're trying but people are just still buying the heck out of them. I don't think people realize that you can't just snap your fingers and out pops a piece of hardware.
- Brian48216, on 11/19/2007, -0/+10You try building a new factory, hire new workers, and secure new supplies in a few months.
- thebellmaster1x, on 11/19/2007, -1/+10Because people buy many more Wiis than 360s? It's not really that hard of an explanation; come on.
- brufleth, on 11/19/2007, -0/+9Every Wii sold is money in the bank for Nintendo. They make profit on every unit sold and they're sure to make additional cash on controllers and games. What you're suggesting makes no sense at all. If they could sell every person who wants a Wii they would and they'd just make more money.
- linzichan, on 11/19/2007, -1/+10My welcome is what?
- skywake, on 11/19/2007, -0/+9SamuraiCal doesn't realise that everybody loves Nintendo. I bet even Bill Gates has a DS sitting on his table and a Wii sitting between his TV and 360 (Phil Harrison probably doesn't but thats a separate issue). The only people who give half a ***** about the graphics on some multi-platform milked franchise game are the fanboys of the opposing systems. I feel sorry for people like you, when SSBB comes out you will be the person who refuses to play it at a party because its on an "inferior system" while everyone else just has fun. That person has a sad future ahead of them....
