- Blah_Blah_Blah, on 01/20/2008, -4/+105Smash Brothers Brawl will own everything.
btw, 10 pages IGN? really? - bigbadgoat, on 01/20/2008, -11/+71Actually, judging by those titles - Nintendo better have a few dozen tricks up its sleeve if it wants to keep its pace. Theres only 3 or 4 games there that look interesting, or aren't ports, and surprise, surprise, most of those are made by Nintendo.
- Sirocco, on 01/20/2008, -4/+37Smash Brothers is going to sell well, but people are going to go ***** *nuts* when Animal Crossing is released, double that if it has any MMO properties. It's not a title to be dismissed.
- dansvan, on 01/20/2008, -0/+33Maybe Brawl's release date was pushed back because everyone who made it could not stop playing it.
- catfud, on 01/20/2008, -7/+36MArio Galaxy
MEtriod Prime 3
Super Paper Mario
Fire Emblem
Trama Center
GH3
These are all great games - Renton, on 01/20/2008, -8/+28Zack and Wiki
Medal of Honor Heroes 2
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles
Anybody who says the Wii didn't have good games is either
1) a fanboy
2) too stupid to read reviews - buttle, on 01/20/2008, -3/+20the second year for consoles is usually really good. far too many gamers were saying that the wii would be done after the first year.
- solidus636, on 01/20/2008, -4/+20Better than Gamespot...
- Dreamscar, on 01/20/2008, -6/+22No More Heroes looks amazing, it's already pulling 90%+ reviews
- nochilinopity, on 01/20/2008, -23/+38Who actually thought "2007 was a good year for Wii"? And no, Mario Galaxy can't salvage an entire year.
- BlueSkyfish, on 01/20/2008, -2/+15It's not surprising that the first party games are good, Nintendo is known for making some of the best games (The top ten bestselling games of all time are first party Nintendo titles, and the top three highest ranked games of all time are also first party Nintendo titles)
The ports are there just as a quick way for publishers to bank off the Wii's success. Basically shovelware, I don't know why he even put them on the list. The real third party games to look forward to are No More Heroes, Disaster Day of Crysis, Alone in the dark, Worms: A Space Oddity, Blast Works, House of the Dead, We Love Golf, Sega Superstar Tennis, Endless Ocean, Monster Lab, Obscure: The Aftermath. Plus, there were some games not listed here like the upcoming Star Wars game. But these are mostly Quarter 1 games, so I think we'll see more announced later in the year.
And Wii Music was one of the few games I think didn't look good, so I guess we have very different opinions. - jabab, on 01/20/2008, -1/+12you're
- ursername180, on 01/20/2008, -1/+12Is it REALLY safe to say that Animal Crossing is being released this year? I know it was announced... but I have yet to see any progress or information at all.
- AmazingAndrex, on 01/20/2008, -1/+11They left out Fatal Frame IV! And No More Heroes, Tales of Symphonia, and Monster hunter 3! All really big games.
I'll forgive that because Animal Crossing is on the list and I like the predictions. (though I think a hard drive/expanded storage will come before voice chat, if either of them come at all.)
Also, that hardcore franchise better be Kid Icarus. - TommyDeVito, on 01/20/2008, -3/+12Seriously, how long do we have to wait until a 3rd party developer puts out a good game? The only title I can think of so far is Zack & Wiki, and even that was presented poorly.
- GMorgan, on 01/20/2008, -1/+10It's a good call too. I'd rather spend £200 on a games console rather than £400 on a console/media centre.
- wukillabee, on 01/20/2008, -10/+19cause your fat
- TheRemoteViewer, on 01/20/2008, -3/+12Great, another year of not being able to find a Wii at retail price. :(
- LogitechG15, on 01/20/2008, -0/+8What?
- BlueSkyfish, on 01/20/2008, -3/+10No More Heroes looks like its actually going to be a great game. I've been following it since I saw the trailer over a year ago, but I kind of had my doubts. It has a 94 average rating on gamerankings, so I'll have to pick it up.
I'm also looking forward to Disaster: Day of Crisis. Baten Kaitos was great, so I'm anxious to see Monolith's next project.
Alone in the dark looks promising, but there aren't many details about it yet
(The link to their Alone in the Dark page is broken, here's the real one http://wii.ign.com/objects/949/949110.html)
Everything in the RPG section looks like crap. Give us a real game, Square-Enix. Crystal Chronicles sucked.
SEGA Superstar Tennis looks very interesting. We need a new Sonic Adventure type game, I miss the chao.
And Brawl will just blow everything out of the water. - mywhitenoise, on 01/20/2008, -14/+21Most of those look pretty bad, aside from the first party titles (Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing) Bully and Okami ports, and I'll probably get Wii Music...but I don't expect much from it.
- YellowSnowDemon, on 01/20/2008, -1/+8It's good because it revitalizes a dead genre that diggers are fond of. People like Monkey Island. Z&W plays like Monkey Island. People like Z&W.
And, it's one of the hardest puzzle games to come out in quite awhile. - LogitechG15, on 01/20/2008, -1/+8No online support=epic fail
- catfud, on 01/20/2008, -1/+8thansk for adding i forgot about those and i also forgot about the new nights game
theres tons of good games on the Wii
and after looking at the 08 list i think this year will be good as well - braineater2448, on 01/20/2008, -5/+12Who knew selling out a year after release and creating 16 Wordwide Million sellers was a bad year? Damn nonchilinopity...You are ***** hard to please. Why dont you make a console. I might buy it. Maybe. But probably not.
- Dorian822, on 01/21/2008, -0/+6They "look" good but I wish Nintendo would develop some titles that didn't look like they were scooped from some sort of anime. I would love to see some sort of immersing gameplay on the Wii, like BioShock or The Darkness. I'm tired of these shallow kiddy games.
- aqzman, on 01/20/2008, -5/+11I actually had no idea that Wii had so many great games in store for it in 08.
- Renton, on 01/20/2008, -6/+12Slimthps, don't you have anything better to do than troll Nintendo articles?
- markh100, on 01/20/2008, -1/+7You should consider using the Firefox extension, repagination. Whenever i run into one of these articles, I just right click on the first Next link, and click repaginate all. It opens up all of the article content in a single window. The end result is that I'm a lot less annoyed by these multi-page ad-littered articles. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/209 ...
- AmazingAndrex, on 01/20/2008, -4/+10I believe Iwata said that the Wii, like the DS and not the PSP, has a focus on games and wasn't after "monopolizing" your living room.
- braineater2448, on 01/20/2008, -2/+8Sure you can. Just wake up a little early, you lazy bastard.
- Neiliosullivan, on 01/20/2008, -0/+6I saw they made a "Jenga" game for the Wii, a big 'ol WTF to that.
- LogitechG15, on 01/20/2008, -1/+6Or because you feel yourself at night.
- thinkart, on 01/20/2008, -0/+5Worms: A Space Oddity - March 10th 2008 according to amazon
http://www.amazon.com/THQ-Worms-A-Space-Oddity/dp/ ... - azizrulez, on 01/20/2008, -3/+8i totally agree,apart from a few first party games,and a few square enix games,nothing looks spectacular,most of them are unknowns,and a few ports from last gen.
- Daniel591992, on 01/20/2008, -2/+7Pissy3? Never heard that one before...
- AmazingAndrex, on 01/20/2008, -0/+5Hopefully we'll see it at GDC or E3.
- AmazingAndrex, on 01/20/2008, -2/+7I really enjoyed Crystal Chronicles, thank you very much. And I'm sure the game will fix most of the complaints about the first one.
- Smwbigboss, on 01/20/2008, -2/+7I never heard of Tales of Symphonia: Knights of Ratatosk until now. Tales of Symphonia was one of my favorite Gamecube games. I'm definitely going to pick that one up.
- LogitechG15, on 01/20/2008, -1/+6Animal Crossing Wii is the game I am most excited about, period. The Animal Crossing games may be childish; however, they are so relaxing, great for when you just want to chill and have some fun. Also, WiiConnect24 support should prove to be great when implemented with this title.
- Renton, on 01/20/2008, -3/+8Battalion Wars 2 is a great game. It's a shame it's been overlooked so much.
- asurroca, on 01/20/2008, -3/+8Except, for the most part, 3rd party developers DON'T make interesting games...then you're left in the lose-lose situation of having sub-par games that ALSO have last-gen graphics.
- nilcam, on 01/20/2008, -1/+6It's good to see deBlob and Blast Works featured, but I'm disappointed that No More Heroes, Baroque and Shikigami no Shiro III were glossed over.
- AmazingAndrex, on 01/20/2008, -2/+7*Disaster: Day of Crisis is second party now that Nintendo bought Monolith Soft.
*Star Wars was mentioned at the bottom here: http://wii.ign.com/articles/846/846421p1.html
*Replace these:
Worms: A Space Oddity, Blast Works, We Love Golf, Sega Superstar Tennis, Obscure: The Aftermath
...with these: Fatal Frame 4, Tales of Symphonia: Knights of Ratatosk, Dragon Quest Swords, Fragile, Oboro Muramasa (from the makers of Odin Sphere: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/25660.html )
...and you have yourself a good looking list, unlike IGN... - Mullinsmcd, on 01/20/2008, -0/+5I own a Wii and I definitely will be playing smash bros and mario kart until the sequels come on Wii 2, but there is no way I could be satisfied as a gamer only owning a Wii. The truth is that no real gamer can be satisfied by the Wii's lineup for 2008 and beyond. All the rest of the Nintendo first party blockbusters are coming this year which leaves very little left for the hardcore gamers on the console.
Look, I'm hopeful about the situation but I'm also a realist. I hope more 3rd party quality titles come with a lot less shovelware. - nilcam, on 01/20/2008, -2/+6Also:
Ghost Squad
Dewy's Adventure
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core
Mercury Meltdown Revolution
MLB Power Pros
Super Swing Golf Season 2
Geometry Wars: Galaxies
Plus all of the other games listed. - BlueSkyfish, on 01/20/2008, -3/+7This isn't the PS3.
- BlueSkyfish, on 01/20/2008, -2/+6@imikedaman
Many of those games aren't really noteworthy. If you want to count any old B game, you have:
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Wii Sports
Resident Evil 4
Excite Truck
Super Paper Mario
Wario Ware: Smooth Moves
Super Mario Galaxy
Mario Strikers: Charged Football
Rayman Raving Rabbids
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
The Godfather: Blackhand Edition
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Kororinpa: Marble Mania
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2
Elebits
Zack and Wiki
Wii Play
Red Steel
Madden NFL 08
Metal Slug Anthology
Call Of Duty 3
SSX Blur
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
Guitar Hero 3
Mario Party 8
Medal of Honor Heroes 2
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
(plus a ton of great Virtual console games and relative unknowns)
(also Nintendo didnt nerf backward compatibility)
PS3 ports of Xbox360 games also tend to have bugs. The Orange Box, for example has severe framerate issues. - AmazingAndrex, on 01/20/2008, -2/+6Uh, 14 of those PS3 titles were ports.
- MrSteamTank, on 01/20/2008, -0/+3Sony had such a ridiculous lead on MS that I'm surprised that they were able to pick up by so much in just one generation. As for Sony surpassing MS I could see it happening this generation.
However, claiming that Sony will just slash prices and MS won't do anything is a little silly. When the PS3 gets price dropped to 300 bucks the 360 will be 200. There is no way the PS3 will have an equal / lower price system than the 360. This is simply due to the hardware differences of the consoles. The PS3 is inherently more expensive to make.
Personally, I'd like to see Sony and Microsoft neck and neck the whole way. The closer the battle between these two the more they'll price cut and innovate for us. 8) -
