- KnockoutNerd, on 08/11/2008, -1/+75I'm waiting for the next adventure in Hyrule not the Mushroom Kingdom.
- daftfunk1, on 08/12/2008, -0/+42Call me a jerk, but I want both.
- j3rm1981, on 08/11/2008, -1/+43This article title (no blame to the submitter, as they took it from the original article) was misleading. I expected to hear about developments of new flagship platformer of sorts for Nintendo. This was nothing more than "Oooh, Miyamoto has cool ideas that get good games made...I wonder what he'll think of next!"
That all having been said, can't we save the LOLs and the IDKs for the instant chat and text systems? Must they invade a simple comment system as well?
Typing is so much quicker than writing by hand, and people are still taking shortcuts. I work at a telecomms company and the telephone operators are, naturally, on PCs all day long. It's no surprise that they're one-finger typists when I see the state of comments on today's websites.
My Mom, I can understand not being a fluent typist. My Dad, sure. My Grandparents, certainly. But kids younger than me...16, 17, 18...that's just wrong.
Maybe it's me just bitching too much. Perhaps at 26 years old, I'm an 'old man', and need to let the 'kiddies' get on with their 'internets' and not complain about the degradation of our school systems and language skills.
But I swear to ***** God - I heard someone say "loal" the other day, and it took me a few seconds to realise that they were vocally expressing "LOL".
*****. Maybe I am old. If anyone needs me, I'll be on the front porch chasing whipper-snappers off my lawn. - inactive, on 08/12/2008, -0/+37It still amazes me how a game about a short fat Italian plumber jumping on turtles got so popular.
- breckinshire, on 08/12/2008, -0/+32It's a situation most people can relate to.
- inactive, on 08/12/2008, -0/+30wtf, this article basically says nothing.
- pixelfox, on 08/11/2008, -3/+30Nintendo, you're a creative bunch of guys, and trust us, if you made a good game without the plumber, we WOULD STILL BUY IT!
- chaosblade77, on 08/12/2008, -0/+24I don't think it matters how many he's in. When you exclude spin-offs, there have only been 4 "Mario Games" since 1996.
64, Sunshine, Galaxy, and the DS game. Everything else was either a spin off or one of the GBA rereleases.
Maybe it's just me that sees "Mario game" as the main Mario platformers, not including the spin-offs and stuff. That being said, I'll buy the next Mario game. The next spin off? Very, very unlikely since they already released Mario Kart (the only spin off I care anything about.) - XxZtemxX, on 08/12/2008, -0/+23i think Mario should revisit the RPG world. "Super Mario: Legend of the Seven Stars" was amazing, and still is.
- bffoley, on 08/12/2008, -0/+18Jerk
- doommastr, on 08/11/2008, -0/+17"Now, according to sources at Nintendo, the games designer has been banned by the company from speaking publicly about his hobbies. "
Don't listen to the man Mr. Miyamoto! - Konstantino, on 08/11/2008, -1/+18And the fans want more! There's nothing wrong with that.
- shutaro, on 08/12/2008, -0/+17I think the world is ready for Super Mario MMORPG...
- erichw1504, on 08/12/2008, -0/+12That was the most pointless article I've read in a while. What a waste of 30 seconds.
- drunkmonkey01, on 08/12/2008, -0/+11I love Miyamoto and what he's done, but what a ***** article. It's ridiculously short and doesn't actually tell us anything concrete.
- ldkronos, on 08/12/2008, -0/+11Don't forget about his gardening hobby leading to the creation of Pikmin
- freebird09, on 08/12/2008, -0/+11Dear God....careful what you ask for.
(And there's no way it would work with Nintendo's online infrastructure X/ ) - robshoy, on 08/11/2008, -11/+21idk, Galaxy is going to be pretty tough to top.
- chaosblade77, on 08/12/2008, -0/+9I'm looking forward to Fire Emblem DS more than either of those. I'd like to see a Metroid game more than those as well, but I don't think we'll see that anytime soon.
Neither of those really fall under the same category as Mario or Zelda though... at least Miyamoto has some interaction with Metroid I guess. ("Whatever, looks good to me. Go gold." Fans: "THIS DOES NOT PLAY LIKE METROID!!") - Striss, on 08/12/2008, -0/+9It exists, the latest Super Mario Bros that came out for DS was exactly that...a kickass, oldschool side scrolling Mario game. Totally worth playing, best Mario game in years.
- Twenty5, on 08/12/2008, -1/+9"The Nintendo gaming world awaits another Mario"
Isnt this reason enough to Nintendo that gamers dont want anymore any of your gay wii music, sports, resort, fit crap? ohh and the peripherals!!!
Come on Nintendo, stop ***** around and release some good games. - JollyDumple, on 08/12/2008, -0/+7You jerk, I completely agree with you. I'm still waiting for a new Mario AND a new Zelda.
- blikemike88, on 08/12/2008, -1/+8"Having managed to lure millions to games with the inventiveness of characters such as Zelda and Mario..."
Yeah, it's a good thing that the character Zelda (you know, the character that you spend 3 minutes per Zelda game with) was so inventive.
I'm honestly not trying to sound pretentious, but Digg Gaming is where I go when I want to indulge my true inner-nerd, and articles like this where the author clearly possesses no real knowledge of the source material, just take me right out of it. - lordbutler, on 08/12/2008, -0/+7Exactly! Did anyone here bother to read the article at all? The title relates in no way to the content! How did this make it to the front page?
- Murdats, on 08/12/2008, -0/+6it was a different time my son, a different time.
one where people would spend 12 hours shooting alien ships out of the sky over but with the terrain changing occasionally, one where people would fight each other with a choice of 20 characters, but they were all reskins of the same 4 models.
a time where every try gamer knew up up down down left right left right b a off by heart.
a time where jumping on turtles as a plumber were as common place as reading the newspaper in the morning. - Darkangel754, on 08/12/2008, -0/+6They could call it "New Super Mario Bros" and maybe put it on the DS.
- jer2eydevil88, on 08/12/2008, -1/+7I'm 22 and it kind of shocks me to hear kids in high school using the term "epic win" or "fail" to describe an event. I haven't yet heard someone say "loal" but I'm sure its not that far off for me. The difference between us is that I find it exciting to be witness to how the language that was born on the internet is bleeding into everday English.
- finaldrumgod, on 08/12/2008, -1/+7I LOVE Super Mario RPG. I've replayed that game more times than any other game out there. Oh how I wish they would make another! Please, please!
On another note, the first Paper Mario was fun, the second was okay, and the third wasn't an RPG but it was still very fun! However, these do not even come close the legendary story or playability of SMRPG. Not even kinda close. - TVarmy, on 08/12/2008, -0/+6All those friendcodes, barely being able to speak...
- harrison5394, on 08/12/2008, -0/+6Try Animal Crossing, Pikmin, etc.
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -14/+19Please, no more. He's already in over a hundred games
- TVarmy, on 08/12/2008, -1/+6We do get the Paper Mario games and Mario and Luigi games, but they're just not quite the same. Now that Nintendo and Square get along, they should get back together and make those games again. Oh, and the superteam that made Chrono Trigger should also get back together. Or better yet, all those guys get back together. It'd be like CSNY : Deja Vu.
- kalvinb, on 08/12/2008, -1/+6Sometimes I just want to run around and jump on goombas for awhile. I like Galaxy but I'd also like a back to basics side scrolling platformer with updated graphics. It should look something like Mario Party 8 but play like SMB3 or SMW.
- o0joshua0o, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4Summary: Mr Miyamoto's head = $$$
- BowieX, on 08/12/2008, -1/+5Erm... how far did you get in Paper Marios 1-3?
- JollyDumple, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4I posted this earlier on a different topic, but I'll post it again here:
Nintendo MMOs have always seemed impossible to me, but now i've started thinking that if they did it right, a Mario MMO could be the most addictive game ever created. I know it sounds crazy, but think about it. So many kinds of creatures to play as (Toads, Koopas, Goombas, Bobombs, Yoshi, Boos, those desert mouse guys, Shyguys...) a perfect, varied setting in the Mushroom Kingdom... I don't know how they'd do it, they'd probably have to keep the RPG stuff at a minimum ( mostly character customization stuff) so its not just grinding and repetitive quests in boring areas. They'd have to have awesome level design with a good amount of platforming stuff thrown in, and the combat could be normal Mario 64 style stuff or maybe like Paper Mario's battles. Yes it's ridiculous, and no, it won't happen until Nintendo realizes that games can be played online by people who don't know each other, but my vision of this game is just perfect. And its Mario, so I'm pretty sure people would buy it.
Your first instinct may be to bury me for suggesting such a thing, but give it a little thought. - rdolishny, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4I don't know about the world, but this reader awaits the rest of the article.
- keinestijl, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3You might, but not having Mario in the title would mean less sales, really. And if they're going to be making another ( good ) platformer anyway, I don't mind if they put chubby in there to make sure it sells well.
- ExSlashdotter, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3i second this movement.
- tacojohn, on 08/12/2008, -1/+4I wouldn't mind a direct sequel to galaxy. Hell, there doesn't even need to be a "story".
Just give me more levels and crazy *****. Galaxy was awesome and I want more! - rexcom, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3That's what they said about Super Mario Bros., then Super Mario Bros. 3, then Super Mario World, then Super Mario 64....
- cmikesell, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3What exactly does this article have to do with the title? There was no mention of awaiting a new mario. The article basically says we are waiting to see what new peripheral or genre Miyamoto will come up with next as a result of his newest hobby.
- Radan, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3Actually, the word "Låll", from the English acronym "lol". or "Laugh out loud" is now actually part of the Swedish common vocabulary. The word is often used in situations like "(sigh) Låll you are a retard." or "Låll, are you kidding?". It may also be used as a pointer to present slight amusement in a more discrete and formal matter, which was most famously used by Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt as a answer to the rising criticism towards the newly passed FRA law.
"- Fredrik Reinfeldt, don't you agree that this law is utterly ridiculous seeing how you will actively spy on your citizens without them having to have a criminal record?
- Låll." - Twenty5, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3yea, but they also get boring really quickly. Which makes me think that nintendo is indeed ***** around and not being concerned enough about its core fans...
- daridave, on 08/12/2008, -1/+4I'm impatient to walk Hyrule again, too... however, it's disappointing because in my imagination, I keep believing how magical and *beautiful* (like all 3D Zelda games before) the new one will be... but as we all know... the Wii does not do HD! so... while the 1:1 swordplay will be INSANE (assuming it will make it), if I have to wield the Magic Sword once more, I would love it if it didn't have any jaggy edges this time around... so in other words, as much as I'm anticipating the next title, I feel like it will never be what I'm dreaming of. The Wii is more of a Mario system, IMO...
- tech42er, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3FYI, what Nintendo considers hardcore and what Valve considers hardcore are very different.
- donkevin, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3And I thought I was the only one that felt that way. That game was so amazing, and it's what caused me to look into RPGs more. They had always bored me before then.
The Superstar Saga and Paper Mario series were very fun, but not the same. - DaRkz0mbie, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3Love the digression in this comment. ;)
Lol. Literally. - username7410, on 08/12/2008, -0/+2This story has almost nothing to do with a new Mario game. Buried.
- WhoDoneIt, on 08/12/2008, -1/+3Good thing I'm not the head of Nintendo. Had I been using my hobbies to create new games you would already have Wii Masturbate, Wii Do Hayden Panettiere and Wii Fat titles in your library.
