The Nintendo Wii's New Real Price
gizmodo.com — The Wii's $249 base price always allowed it to be known as both the cheapest console and the best deal in town for next-gen gaming. Even at a price of $60 a pop for the WiiMote and Nunchuk, the cumulative price of the system and 4controllers would still be under the cumulative price for the Xbox 360 and PS3. This all changes with the Wii MotionPlus

- perceptron, on 07/16/2008, -3/+3and this is excluding all the features that come standard with PS3 such as blu-ray or wireless, as well as an actual hard drive to store your downloadable games.
- imacbook, on 07/16/2008, -2/+3Nintendo Wii includes WiFi as standard.
- perceptron, on 07/16/2008, -2/+0I was referring to Xbox 360 about wireless but blu-ray applies to both and more so to Wii since it doesn't even play normal DVD movies. I know everyone says these are just game console but entertainment centers but for that price I don't mind getting those features on top of game console

- kanuk20, on 07/16/2008, -2/+6I'd rather pay the extra $40 for an Xbox 360 with 4 controllers then get a Wii with 4 controllers. As I hate to admit it, I have a Wii and the gimmick of motion control has worn of for me and most hardcore gamers. $40 in the $400 range isn't anything to cry over.
- imacbook, on 07/16/2008, -1/+2I think you could better spend that $40 on a book to teach you the appropriate uses of "then" and "than".
- kanuk20, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1I'm not an english major, and the grammar in my engineering textbooks are just as bad as the grammar I use when typing out an insignificant digg posts. Who the hell points out grammar mistakes on a social bookmarking site? I've seen worse mistakes in headlines.
- KnockoutNerd, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2I don't find the Wii controls to be a gimmick, I believe its the lack of depth in games on the Wii (well for me anyway). Games like Twilight Princess, Metroid and Galaxy that prove to me that the Wii controls are great and now with the Motion Plus on the way I can't wait for the next game in any of those franchises.
- KingGoonie, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Careful grouping most hardcare gamers with you. See digg seems to think they make up 100% of the hardcore gamers... Most gamers, casual, new, hardcore, are still loving the wii.

- DamageInc, on 07/16/2008, -1/+3They forget to take Gamecube controllers into account. Aside from the games that are built around motion control, most of the multiplayer games that I play with 3-4 people (Brawl, Mario Kart) don't benefit from the motion control and are actually much easier to play with old Gamecube controllers. And anyways, no one person really needs four Wiimotes of their own. The Wii users that play with a lot of people usually have roommates that split the cost or friends that bring their remotes over.
However, the single player aspect of the Wii definitely gets boring more quickly and lacks compared to the other consoles. I've owned a Wii for around a year now, but I plan on buying a PS3 in the coming months.- imacbook, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2Playing Brawl is fine with the remote on its own I feel. Mario Kart is also great if you use the remote and nunchuk together.
- perceptron, on 07/16/2008, -1/+2not many people has bought GC so they won't have the controllers and specially market that Wii has captured isn't as consumer savvy as other two consoles so there's a better chance that they may not be aware of that since they're not called Wii controller.
Also, the biggest appeal of Wii is that it's a social gaming console and it's most fun to play with your friends as it mostly has party games and not many single player games so even if you won't be buying four controllers you definitely need 2.

- skywake, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1I have three Wii remotes, two Nunchucks, a Wavebird and a classic controller. That's enough for four player games in most situations I have found. With Brawl everyone has their own preference of control so everyone has always been happy and with Mario Kart there is always someone who wants to use the Wheel. There aren't that many major Wii games out now that require four nunchucks (I know of Mario Strikers Charged but thats it).
If a game comes out that needs Wii Motion Plus and four nunchucks (i.e. Waverace or another Star Wars game) then this might be true but currently its not. More likely the major games are going to keep throwing out options for control. Options that people are going to increasingly not want to use but options none the less. :P
As I see it Wii Motion Plus is Wii 2.0 because the Wii remote was the selling point and this is a refinement of that. I just hope that now its out Nintendo and various 3rd Party developers start to come up with some ideas.

- imacbook, on 07/16/2008, -9/+4Uh, another stupid American article which tries to make a point by ignoring every country in the world but one. In Europe, Xbox 360 is the cheapest console available.
Idiots. This is why I don't trust "bloggers".
