- fearofcups, on 02/26/2009, -1/+53GameBoy Color + Pokemon = half of my childhood
- doshindude, on 02/26/2009, -1/+24older gameboys did not have backlighting, aside from the japan-only Game Boy Light.
- salinungatha, on 02/26/2009, -1/+15Me: Wanna see my Nintendo DS?
6yo Nephew (delighted) : Yeah!
I hand him my 1984 vintage Dual Screen Donkey Kong 2.
6yo Nephew (mix of disgust, perplexity and even a little fear on his face) : Its so.....OLD! - caddyalan, on 02/25/2009, -0/+13I still have a GBC in working condition. It wasn't bad ten years ago, but it's awfully tough to see now. Sadly, I don't currently have a working GB or GBA, but I don't recall either was easy-to-see. All of them were much easier on batteries than my Game Gear (and unfortunately, I owned fewer GG games).
- dekuscrub, on 02/26/2009, -0/+11Ok, show of hands: who owned every major Game Boy release?
GB
GBC
GBA
GB adv SP
Extra points if you had some in between (i.e. GB Micro) - Cyberbladewolf, on 02/26/2009, -0/+10Eh? The Virtual Boy did not use LCD displays in any way shape or form. It actually used rotating mirrors and 2 LED arrays. That's why there's that odd hum you can hear when playing it. It's also why it only displays red, because Green and Blue LED's were far more expensive at the time.
- soupdawg30, on 02/26/2009, -0/+9Anything that is good on the DS.
- iatethecake, on 02/25/2009, -5/+13hmm... the lighting on older GameBoys weren't that bad from what I recalled, or was that just me?
- DanBoodro, on 02/26/2009, -1/+9Same here man.
- chaosblade77, on 02/26/2009, -1/+9How exactly does that make it a rip off? That platform is 8 years old and cartridge B/C is a mess. Chances are, there will be a portable virtual console at some point anyway, which is better than a GBA slot since you don't have to carry around a bunch of cartridges.
I mean, if we ignore the bigger screens, better speakers, more powerful hardware, flash memory/SDHC slot and DSiWare, and all of the added software features I guess it might be a rip off then you may have a point. - JonTheGoose, on 02/26/2009, -0/+8My original gray brick gameboy still works and I still play Super Marioland 2 and Warioland on it. That thing is indestructible.
- Karai, on 02/26/2009, -1/+9I wish Nintendo would release (S)NES emulators for their portable systems. :(
- Daemastrius, on 02/26/2009, -0/+5I'll buy 10 of them if they do.
- error2k2, on 02/26/2009, -0/+5Me! I also had the Gameboy Pocket with the the camera and printer. Those were the days.
- chaosblade77, on 02/26/2009, -1/+6That's pretty much how handhelds work, even Sony has released three different models of the PSP in the last four years with another one rumored to be announced sometime this year.
But since we are complaining about repackaged consoles, I guess the PSTwo and PSOne shold have never existed. - Toupee, on 02/25/2009, -3/+8I remember getting my first Game Boy back in ... '92? Something like that. I was probably four or five. You learned a lot about having proper lighting for the Game Boy, AA batteries, and how your pinkies fall asleep if you held it too long.
BTW, Virtual Boy rocked. At least when you only paid $10 for one... - OwlFlavored, on 02/26/2009, -0/+5Digg this is you thought, for all it's flaws, the Virtual Boy was still fun. (No hard feelings if I'm the only one)
- Elranzer, on 02/26/2009, -0/+4Maybe they'll release a full color Virtual Boy now that the technology is affordable.
- salinungatha, on 02/26/2009, -1/+5Not at all! It is a Nintendo with Dual Screens.
Next came...
Nephew :"how many games does it have?" (not noticing most of the graphics are hard wired into the screen)
Me : "One"
Utter perplexity. - Elranzer, on 02/26/2009, -0/+4DSi's download store will probably sell individual NES/SNES roms repackaged for DS.
- cvh™, on 02/26/2009, -0/+4word. I have one already, and i gotta say that it is sweet, but if you plan on using flash-cards then you are out of luck. As of now I think that you can't plat pirated games on the system.
[edit: yes, you can use flashcards] http://dsiflashcards.com/tag/acekard-dsi/ - irriadin, on 02/26/2009, -0/+4You're seriously hating on the biggest upgrade to the Gameboy? The jump from the GBA to the SP included a lit screen, clam-shell design, and rechargeable battery.
- Hedragon, on 02/26/2009, -0/+4"PLEASE VISIT TF2WIKI.NET"
- stk198323, on 02/26/2009, -1/+5As opposed to what?
Every product being created out of the air that surrounds us?
No one said NATURAL evolution, of course a man made device will need a man made new model dumb ass! Why don't you stop learning fancy ''scientific'' words and act like you know what they mean! - stk198323, on 02/26/2009, -0/+3@bonofosho:
In case you missed his point he's not comparing the PS1 to the PS2 but the PSOne to the PS1 and the PSTwo to the PS2! - cvh™, on 02/26/2009, -0/+3I still have all mine in working condition. I have one of every GameBoy model (except for the GameBoyLite, and my japanese teacher had one... I hate him for that) and all of the DS models to date, even the DSi. Nothing can compare to bringing out the old GameBoy and reliving my childhood… It works well playing the old systems in good lighting, but in bad it sux balls.
Yes i am a handheld nintendo fanboy… - feliks2, on 02/26/2009, -0/+3I finally know wtf mr game and watch is when i play smash bros
- Olympicarw, on 02/26/2009, -0/+3I didn't accidentally my childhood with a GBC and Pokemon, I proudly did it on purpose.
- lordmike, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2Dugg for including the game & watch series!
- floppytaco, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2I thought it was incredible when it first came out, but I have always been a sucker for 3d stuff. The fact that it has been demonized by everyone really sucks in my opinion because had it been successful we might have a full color version by now and that would be ***** awesome.
- soupdawg30, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2I loved my Game Gear but I could never finish any games on it. Battery life was a joke.
- XxtraLarGe, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2I haven't owned all of them, but I did own a Gameboy Color (gave it to my girlfriend's son, now my step-son :-), a Gameboy Advance (had to sell it to pay for car repairs), a GameBoy Micro (which I liked much better than the regular GBA. I think I sold this one also to pay for car repairs), and finally now I have a DS. The only problem I have with the DS is that it has by and large been replaced by my iPod touch as my main casual gaming system.
- Daemastrius, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2War was beginning
- tech9, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2I totally forgot about the Game Boy Micro, i just might pick one up.
- matthewf01, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2I couldn't wait for GBA to hit America - I imported mine, had it months earlier!
- tsupo, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2I'd played 5 games and 2 applications from DSi-ware Store. I like the ARTSTYLE-series games.
- inactive, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2Heyyy that's false advertising!
- tehWyman, on 08/19/2009, -0/+2I had a Sega Game Gear, GB pocket, GBC, GBA SP, and that's when I started getting into computer gaming.
- bigbangattack, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2i know when i buy this one they will come out with a slimmer and more atheistically pleasing one
- tehrich, on 02/26/2009, -1/+3I'm probably alone in thinking this, but I don't like the redesigns of Nintendo's portables. The GBA SP was too tiny, the L and R buttons felt awkward, and the lack of regular headphone support was a killer. As for the DS I still love my original gray one, angles and all. The Lite's buttons and control pad have an odd feel, the microphone in between the screens is harder to use than the original's, and the clear plastic iPod look can get dirt in it with no easy way to clean. Call me crazy but I think Nintendo does it right the first time...
- chaosblade77, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2Please explain how the PSTwo and PSOne are any different than the DS Lite, then. Smaller form factor, more energy efficient (longer battery life in the case of the DS Lite, which is the same thing). What am I missing?
- shpider, on 02/26/2009, -0/+1I for one think that the evolution of Nintendo Portables is just a theory !
- Cyberbladewolf, on 02/26/2009, -0/+1The Gamegear wasn't that bad on batteries, at least when you compare it to the Nomad. Now there's a system that eats batteries for dinner. Then again, it was worth it to play the real Sonic 2 on the go, rather than the 8 bit version which was horrible on the lower resolution Gamegear.
- esc27, on 02/26/2009, -0/+1If they put Earthbound 1-3 on it, I might just have to buy a DSi, otherwise it is better to wait a few years for DS2.
- themastersb, on 02/26/2009, -1/+2I remember 5 years ago where I'd sit on the couch, in the light with just me and my gameboy and no other piece of technology around or any other noises to bother me. Now I sit in the dark with my new handhelds, with my computer fans blazing in the background and I turn to laugh at something on TV every so often. Times sure have changed.
- bobbygeorgina, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1Should have included Nintendo Game Boy Light...even though it wasn't a huge or worldwide release.
- huntmol, on 02/27/2009, -0/+1I can't believe that someday I will have to tell my kids that when I was their age I used to play videogames in black and white...
- Ebok, on 02/27/2009, -0/+1compared to sega's Game gear hell ya ;D
- inactive, on 02/27/2009, -0/+1It's just you. It was that bad. Even with proper lighting you still had to keep the Game Boy at a certain position or you couldn't see *****.
- Doomsan, on 02/27/2009, -0/+1Boy i feel old.
