- orangespanky, on 11/15/2007, -35/+338Fans may claim that the graphics are good “for the Wii,” but that argument quickly grows tired. There’s clever art design on many of the planets Mario visits, but given the vastly superior quality of the graphics in a game like “Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction,” currently available for the PS3, “Galaxy” looks old fashioned and lifeles
what are you ***** nuts? That is what clearly gives away that he was being payed off by sony, even if you couldent notice the ***** sponsered by sony logo in the corner of the page
Dugg for Ben Fritz being a complete ***** idiot - djSyndrome, on 11/15/2007, -31/+121Idiots. The entire DVD and Gaming review column is sponsored by Sony, not the review itself. That logo has been appearing on and off Variety's site for awhile now. It just happened to be there when the review was posted.
Doesn't mean the review doesn't suck (it does), but crying SONY PAYOLA is just stupid. - yasuharu, on 11/15/2007, -10/+94Yeah, well... While I agree with the idea that all reviews are biased, this review is still garbage. A review of a Nintendo game that was sponsored by Sony is completely useless, just as a review of a Sony game that was sponsored by Nintendo would be. So, no matter what system you are a fan of, you have to admit that this guy has no journalistic integrity. It's gone now, but that little "sponsored by Sony" tag took away whatever credibility he had. Really though, who goes to Variety to look for game reviews? I wouldn't use it if it were the last review site on the net...
- punx777, on 11/15/2007, -8/+90Thanks, Captain Obvious.
- atomicpoet, on 11/15/2007, -7/+77And according to Metacritic, it currently is the best game of all time. It's currently at 98. Ocarina of Time also scored a 98. That means it's a tie.
- yakebob, on 11/15/2007, -19/+80They are always bias but not to this degree, the writer clearly shows no remorse and hasn't played the game.
And Mario Galaxy is "almost Perfect" - postalblowfish7, on 11/15/2007, -29/+79not to mention that tools of destruction plays like a 2nd rate 3rd person shooter, and mario galaxy plays like the best video game of all time.
- shinythingy, on 11/15/2007, -2/+43Your maths skills pwn
- jacksons98, on 11/15/2007, -13/+54I've seen the same exact sponsored by Sony logo on Cnet. Sony sponsors or advertises on probably thousands of websites. A Sony logo showing up on the banner of a Nintendo reviewed game doesn't mean the reviewer was bought. Do you really think if Sony was trying to pay them off they would want their logo on the same page? No freakin way.
- atomicpoet, on 11/15/2007, -13/+51Wow. Unabashed fanboyism on a mainstream site. Who would've thunk. Yet another example of what I've said all along: most gamers, and game reviewers, are not so interested in gameplay as they are interested in eye candy for their 1080p displays. Super Mario Galaxy gets universal acclaim BASED ON GAMEPLAY, and this guy knocks it due to the platform it is on. I wonder, is he the kind of person who would slam Pac Man for being hopelessly sprite-based?
I mean, this guy isn't even saying it's a bad game. He's just idly talking about system specs.
Well buddy, I got news for you. My Macintosh with Photoshop and Final Cut Pro will beat the pants off the Playstation in the graphics department any day of the week. Huzzah! - doctechnical, on 11/15/2007, -9/+46Perhaps fewer video games and more grammar lessons are called for.
In other news, Sony introduces the revolutionary new "Point-n-Grunt" interface for their most dedicated gamers. - jacksons98, on 11/15/2007, -2/+34I agree no reason to throw that in the review. That's not what the Wii is about. We already know the graphics aren't going to be the same as on other systems.
- inactive, on 11/15/2007, -3/+34Its "BIASED"
- omgosh, on 11/15/2007, -12/+43"Galaxy > Ocarina."
Nothing, ever, will be greater than Ocarina. - atomicpoet, on 11/15/2007, -17/+47The entire article was an unabashed advertisement for Sony. I mean how else do you interpret this sentence: "There’s clever art design on many of the planets Mario visits, but given the vastly superior quality of the graphics in a game like “Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction,” currently available for the PS3, “Galaxy” looks old fashioned and lifeless."
I hope Ben is laughing mirthfully as he counts his dollar bills. - MrFisty, on 11/15/2007, -2/+26Thanks, Beating-Me-To-The-Comment Guy.
God damn writers strike. - kinseyincanada, on 11/15/2007, -4/+26ive been playing galaxy all day, and its a truly great game, very similar to mario 64 and thank god it is, it takes a little time to get used to the camera but i got used to it after the first two levels, and the graphics are amazing, this should be what all Wii games should look like .
- rubenz, on 11/15/2007, -3/+24I played Ocarina and thought it was kick-ass.
^^ Fixed. - slicedoranges, on 11/15/2007, -1/+19Nothing gets past you, champ.
- Totalchaos02, on 11/15/2007, -1/+16A reviewer is supposed to look at the game objectively. If he or she did not enjoy the game they must isolate the reasons why and explain how it detracts from the game. You can't look at a game and say 'well I did not enjoy the game so it must suck'. You have to recognize the positives and negatives and realize that maybe you did not enjoy the game because it is not your style and not the game itself.
- TimSup, on 11/15/2007, -11/+26I guess you have bad taste in games.
- dxprog, on 11/15/2007, -1/+15If Mario 64 was anything, it was revolutionary. It was the game that almost single handedly set the standards for 3D platformers that followed.
- wesd, on 11/15/2007, -4/+18You missed the point... "currently available for the PS3," was totally unnecessary.
Compare the games by all means, I don't even mind the graphics being compared (even though nobody ever expected MG to meet PS3 graphics) but if you're following the trend set in my first sentence then every game title should be followed by "currently available on [insert platform(s) here]", otherwise it's just unashamed advertising! - will180, on 11/15/2007, -3/+16RIIIIIIIIIIIDGE RACER!!!! IT'S RIDGE RACER!!!
- tallonx, on 11/15/2007, -7/+20On behalf of all play station fan boys, this is some stupid *****. Galaxy is a great game, and it really pains me to see such extremists. I really doubt that Sony is out to so blatantly bash the competition, and perhaps this is just an isolated incident with a particularly biased reviewer.
It's ***** like this which gives sony + sony fans a bad rep. - afx1, on 11/15/2007, -2/+15damn right it is!
- gizmo12688, on 11/15/2007, -0/+13@shinythingy
oh i dont know, probably the fact that he said that the star bits are pointless to collect, even though they are used to unlock more levels...... - luchid, on 11/15/2007, -3/+15I agree, to some extent, but please -for the love of the FSM- it's "biased" not "bias". Drop your joystick and go to school.
- inactive, on 11/15/2007, -4/+16Hey, I don' like Halo, but if I were to write a review, it wouldn't be negative. I mean, I may be a little more nitpicky than some, but hey, no one's more nitpicky than diehard fanboys, so at least I wouldn't be the worst in that regard. Point is, in the end, though I may not like a particular game, I can still recognize and respect a game's technical achievements.
- inactive, on 11/15/2007, -4/+15I picked up Mario Galaxy the other night and I have to say it's one of the best gaming experiences of all time.
Except for mario's increasingly high pitched voice. - CReyes4182, on 11/15/2007, -2/+13.
- shinythingy, on 11/15/2007, -3/+14Platformers
Cartoonish visuals - adraft, on 11/15/2007, -0/+11That's it, I just kicked off my campaign to digg down any LOL's I read in comments, which of course means now I'd technically have to digg this one (my own) down.
- InitialDMP5, on 11/15/2007, -1/+12when I think of Mario with next gen graphics, I think of how Galaxy looks, but with Hd resolution textures, no shimmering or pixels, even better animation and just that extra polish that using a powerful system would provide. It doesn't have to look like Uncharted or unreal tournament, people always confuse "next gen" with realism. Its more about using the extra power to give the game polish. And who knows, the little planets could have been really huge.
- jacksons98, on 11/15/2007, -2/+13@yasuharu It's a shifting banner ad. You will see it all over their site on and off. They run the same sponsored by Sony ad on lots of other sites as well. Keep refreshing the review and it will show up again eventually.

Man, people are gullible. Take a paraphrase out of context, throw a couple of quotation marks around it, pretend that the reviewer actually said it, and you've got fodder for a bunch of mouth-foaming gamers who have never read anything the writer has done before. Here's a test...raise your hand if you actually read the review. No? Not surprising.
The review is a good review, straight forward, solid, praising where the controls excel while bemoaning where the use of the wiimote is superfluous or just plain obnoxious (raise your hand if you haven't read a few dozen reviews saying the same thing about most Wii games...exactly). It's clear that a fanboy blogger saw "Sony" on the page, ***** himself, and decided it would be better to exaggerate, mislead, and then let his head explode into a spray of confetti than be honest with himself and gamers.
By the way, just because you as a gamer don't care what a game looks like does not mean people considering what to get for Christmas should share your views. If I don't own a Wii and people keep saying, fairly, "The graphics are weak to the other two systems this generation," I have a reason not to get the Wii. No one complained when the PS2 was compared fairly against the Xbox and the Gamecube. Besides, it gave PS2 owners a reason to cheer when developers finally caught up to the GC and Xbox with some fancy tricks on a few games.
Wii fanboys, stop sticking your fingers in your ears or screaming "rabble rabble rabble" everytime someone tells you the truth about your favorite game or your favorite system. - ch0p57ickz, on 11/15/2007, -0/+10i also like to add that anyone who is half-way decent with PHP could get the sponsored by sony ad to pop up, but it otherwise doesn't show. How about someone on digg do a little research? This may be a shock to you, but not everything you see on the internet is true

for anyone who doesn't believe me can click on the link them self here http://www.variety.com/index.asp?layout=reviews_la ... - atomicpoet, on 11/15/2007, -4/+14Get a hold of your emotions, sir. I never knocked R&C. I do knock, however, our current graphics-obsessed generation.
By the way, in almost every way EXCEPT graphics and controls, the C64 beats the pants off the Wii. - JPOOPOO, on 11/15/2007, -0/+10Whoa, no one ever said anything about Rachet and Clank, a little defensive are we?

- vanbacon, on 11/15/2007, -0/+10Dugg for using Your holy Worship of his noddly one
- Urusai, on 11/15/2007, -1/+10People love to hate on the PS3, but it plays a mean Folding@Home. I can't wait for LINPACK Hero to come out!
- Totalchaos02, on 11/15/2007, -2/+11Sorry but your opinion means very little when you are talking about a game that is widely regarded as the best video game ever in such a negative way. You may of not enjoyed the game yourself but you cannot deny the technological and influential achievement that the game was.
- dafragsta, on 11/15/2007, -1/+10BIGGEST. OVERREACTION-WITH-USE-OF-CAPSLOCK-KEYS. EVER.
- HanSolo69, on 11/15/2007, -0/+9Should have just linked to the review. would have been more effective to let people read it and see how bad it is without the opposite bias of Nsider.
- thecheatah, on 11/15/2007, -4/+13i think this is just made up. I cannot believe anyone can in there right mind write something bad about this game.
- tacom8, on 11/15/2007, -7/+15uh oh you expressed a rational thought, prepare to be pointlessly burried. It's a shame really, just wish more people on digg could READ things and form their OWN opinions.
its truely sad that a small group of people can basically manufacture news which then becomes reality... - nathew, on 11/15/2007, -2/+10too soon to tell, dude. wait another 10 years and see how it holds up. it's unfair to compare two games when one was just released while the other is 10 years old.
- felman87, on 11/15/2007, -2/+10bioshock isn't a platformer but point taken
- felman87, on 11/15/2007, -10/+18Sony doesn't even pay for exclusives, why would they pay some hack journalist?
