Smash. Bros. Dojo announces Pikmin!
smashbros.com — The daily developer's blog announced a new character today, Captain Olimar from the Gamecube game Pikmin, as well as his eponymous little critters, the Pikmin. After a drought of new information for several weeks, it's nice to see a real update on the dojo.

- iofthestorm, on 01/09/2008, -0/+4Haha, good game. I was constantly refreshing the RSS feed to see when the update would appear, because around 11:05PST the RSS feed kept failing to load. If this hits the front page, I'll stop submitting these so other people can have a chance.
- CWal37, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3Looks like this is the last character announcement before release since the space is full now. Kinda in the vein of Pokemon trainer I guess.
Also, you beat me by under 10 seconds :P- iofthestorm, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2Hopefully there'll be a lot more unlockables though, especially the older characters like Roy and Marth. Although Ike looks nice, if Roy's not in Brawl I will be slightly miffed, but not really since I'll be too busy playing online with my friends. Brawl really is all about playing with friends, and with others seems like you won't be able to tell the difference between that and computers. I just hope they work out some voice chat device, hopefully that's why they had the delay. If not, I'm sure we can work something out with Teamspeak or something like that.
- CWal37, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2Yeah, the good old ts workaround. Although it's unlikely that Nintendo will enable voice chat right off the bat, hopefully later down the road. I mean even the DS did get it eventually.
- iofthestorm, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2Yeah, but the DS had a mic built in so it was inevitable. Also, the quality on the DS mic sucks but that's a different story altogether. There was that story recently about voice chat being a possibility, and I think it's almost certain to be coming since the DS has it, it's just a question of when and how they might add support to older games. I'd hope for a Wii-wide voice chat system where you can join a voice chat from the Wii Menu and it's persistent until you turn off your Wii or disconnect.
- CWal37, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2Yeah, but the problem with a wii-wide voice chat would be the friend codes, which I bet most people find pretty inconvenient. A Wii-wide chat would probably only involve your wii-friends (the main friend code ones) and not necessarily the same ones you play games with, although maybe it would let you open it to everyone on your list from everything. That would be nice.
I doubt they'd add support for older games just because they haven't done anything like that in the past that I can recall. A major step they could have taken to modifying old games would have been to add multiplayer to VC games. I was really excited that maybe I'd be able to play bomberman and gunstar heroes online, but alas, that has yet to appear.

- iofthestorm, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3Hmm, still can't figure out why the thumbnail doesn't work. But anyway, I wonder how the gameplay mechanics will work since it sounds like he's easily disabled. Perhaps he has some strong moves that keep him from losing his Pikmins. Never actually played the game myself, but this does present the possibility that a Wii sequel is in the works.
- CWal37, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2You should definitely go back and at least play the second, it eliminated the time limit for dungeons along with adding purple and white pikmin, which made it more fun than the first. Should be pretty cheap now too since it's a cube game.
- iofthestorm, on 01/09/2008, -1/+2Yeah, I've got a ton of cube games I want to get like Ikaruga, Tales of Symphonia, and now this. Hopefully I can find a friend to borrow it from, and I think one of my friends has Symphonia too.
- CWal37, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1Symphonia's great, you can easily sink in 100+ hours since it rewards multiple playthroughs and it's a really big game as is. Ikaruga can be expensive to find these days, good luck with that.
- iofthestorm, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1Another friend has that too, and I saw it on ebay for $30ish dollars. I played Tales of Phantasia on an emulator a few years ago and was hooked, but unfortunately not many recent Tales games have been localized.
- CWal37, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1It won't let me reply to you, so I'm trying to do it by responding to me
I thought I already said this, but apparently digg's comment system hates me so. . .
Same thing here, emulated Phantasia since it was never released here and I was bored, found out it was awesome, then got hooked on Symphonia, and now a Symphonia sequel is in the works for the Wii too.
Actually there have been a few Tales games in the past few years. I don't have a PS2 though and I know several were on there, as far as I recall at least one good and one "meh." - iofthestorm, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1Yeah, I don't have a PS2 either so I don't have those games, and PS2 emulation is crazy. I just built a new computer that's reasonably fast and yet FFX runs at about 50% speed in the beginning, and I haven't bothered trying to play it further.

- imakecoasters, on 01/09/2008, -1/+5I'm still awaiting Midna as anything in the game!
- CWal37, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2 We all have our dreams for this game, I'm holding onto a tiny sliver of hope for Marina, it's just surprising how many people have had theirs fulfilled.
- Monkeydew06, on 01/09/2008, -0/+0And here I stopped checking the website yesterday cause I was tired of the lack-luster updates, then all of a sudden... BOOM new challenger. Stupid sexy brawl....
- Paroparo, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1I think pikmin is a pretty cool guy. Eh throws little guys on toppa big guys and doesn't afraid of anything.
- swimmingbird67, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1i can't wait for the game. please have mega man...
- ut2k4king, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1They have 24 announced characters, 12 old 12 new, which means that Nintendo probably won't be announcing any more characters before the game's release. I was secretly hoping for Revolver Ocelot or Liquid Snake or something, but they probably still have a ton of unannounced characters.
