Smash Bros. Brawl sells 1.4 million in first week!
joystiq.com — Record-breaking, at a rate of 120 units per minute
- 2163 diggs
- digg it
- whymog, on 03/17/2008, -15/+148A well-deserved success for Nintendo.
- Persondude, on 03/17/2008, -14/+5Someone doesnt think so... Somebody is digging down every comment on the page :(
I cant wait to try the game though! Havent got a hold if it yet. - kingfoot, on 03/17/2008, -5/+25im proud to be apart of that 1.4m (now 3mill world wide right?).
- techmaster, on 03/18/2008, -16/+3I don't see how 1.4 million in a week is record breaking, considering Halo 3 sold about 2.8 million in the first day.
- McHaleR, on 03/18/2008, -4/+2its record breaking for Nintendo of America, but your right halo 3 owned those sales figures in the US of A
- KingGoonie, on 03/18/2008, -6/+4AWWWWW poor wittle techmaster upset that people kinda forgot all about Halo3 once COD4 came out, and that its only still #2 on live because of all the 12 year olds.
Toobadsosad that brawl is going to go on to beat Halo 3 in total sales when all is said and done. I, and many others, have been saying it will do so for a while.
- tim5779, on 03/18/2008, -2/+151.4 mil? then WHY IS IT SO HARD TO FIND PEOPLE ONLINE
- mirrorguy, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1Their servers are down, or so I hear.
- xenosteel, on 03/18/2008, -0/+5Game plays best amongst friends with shouting, screaming, and constantly jumping in front of the TV like an enraged grasshopper.
Good times. - vulapine, on 03/18/2008, -0/+3I've been playing online at night the last few days with no problem.
- daridave, on 03/18/2008, -0/+3QFT. I don't cheer everything Nintendo does... in fact I've been pretty negative lately, but this game is simply AWESOME. I can't stop playing. I find the graphics pretty (jaggy, but pretty), the soundtrack amazing (if not the best ever) and there's simply enough variety in gameplay to make me keep coming back for more and if I can compare to how I was addicted with Melee, I'll still be playing this non-stop months from now... so yes, absolutely well deserved, you said it. I just wish the networking part made more sense, eh...
- Shaflugi, on 03/18/2008, -0/+6Months? I'll be playing this for years! :P
- spvn, on 03/18/2008, -1/+2this was a triumph
- Persondude, on 03/17/2008, -14/+5Someone doesnt think so... Somebody is digging down every comment on the page :(
- tadj, on 03/17/2008, -18/+100Over 3 million worldwide already!!!
http://www.vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=6962- MasterPlayer, on 03/17/2008, -26/+8Vgchartz isn't credible, they make up numbers. I've been on many gaming forums and they laugh at anyone that posts a Vgchartz link.
- twertyto, on 03/17/2008, -14/+5In this forum, I laugh at you.
*snicker snicker* - braineater2448, on 03/18/2008, -0/+8They actually are pretty darn credible. I wondering how many people are laughing at you and your lack of knowledge.
- staticneuron, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1They constantly verify numbers against checked sources while calculating for stores left out. It's about approximations which NPD, charttrack, mediacreate and anyother sales tracker does because it is near impossible to get exact figures all the time.
- twertyto, on 03/17/2008, -14/+5In this forum, I laugh at you.
- linuxrocks2007, on 03/17/2008, -12/+7I wouldn't be surprised if it will beat Halo 3. The game hasn't even been released in Europe and 2 weeks, it sold almost 50% the amount of Halo 3. GTA IV might beat the two but only time (and marketing) will tell.
- iofthestorm, on 03/17/2008, -1/+17I would be very surprised if it didn't, because the Wii has a larger install base and Smash has a broader appeal than Halo, although the Xbox community is very attached to Halo, but then the same can be said for the Wii community, which has also been relatively game-starved recently.
- Rendonsmug, on 03/17/2008, -1/+8Sorry, you are a little late for that. It hasn't been released in Europe and 2 weeks, it sold almost 50% of Halo 3 first day US only sales.
Not to troll, but I thought I'd correct for accuracy.
- muffinmonk, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1HOLY *****!
- MasterPlayer, on 03/17/2008, -26/+8Vgchartz isn't credible, they make up numbers. I've been on many gaming forums and they laugh at anyone that posts a Vgchartz link.
- chario, on 03/17/2008, -46/+12yay :D This is gonna be bigger than Halo3 thanks to japan :P cuz smash will sell worlwide records.
Halo3 sold very very good on america :P to bad on japan :P- JustAn0th3rFace, on 03/17/2008, -17/+8:P :D
- hmunkey, on 03/18/2008, -0/+27Wow :P really :P why :P am :P I :P talking :P like :P this:P ?
- RockMySocks10, on 03/17/2008, -21/+8YEY! Brawl probably would be the best selling game in the first week on Earth if it came out on the same day in Japan, Europe, and America!
- aceakm, on 03/17/2008, -26/+6Does anybody else here own with Pit aka Kid Icarus?
- Syphon8, on 03/17/2008, -9/+3Pit is not aka Kid Icarus. And everyone owns with him, he's completely rigged.
- Asianwaste, on 03/18/2008, -0/+5Lacks a good launcher.
- Syphon8, on 03/18/2008, -1/+1Has infinite recovery.
- tech42er, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1Infinite recovery? Are you sure about that?
- Nick22, on 03/18/2008, -0/+6No he doesnt. There is a very easy way to make sure he dies when hes trying to fly back to safety, and it also makes sure you piss the other player off :)
When pit is using his up-B move (the flying one) to try and get back on the stage, jump down and hit him, then jump back up to save yourself. Then all you have to do is watch him helplessly fall to his death :)- aceakm, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1People have tried that on me, and it doesn't work that well, but sometimes it does :(
- Syphon8, on 03/18/2008, -1/+1Has infinite recovery.
- Asianwaste, on 03/18/2008, -0/+5Lacks a good launcher.
- AndrewDB, on 03/17/2008, -0/+4I'm an Ike player, Pit's got a few weakness' that only a few characters can expose. :)
- r00ts, on 03/17/2008, -2/+2Ike is one of those characters that anyone can play and do well with (like Marth).
It's all about the ice climbers- Pelenclerk, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1Ice Climber pros are the most respected players in all of smash.
Pit's really good at dealing damage, but lacks a finishing move. I started as him, but against wise competition he's easily beat. - tech42er, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1Absolutely.
- Pelenclerk, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1Ice Climber pros are the most respected players in all of smash.
- BlueSkyfish, on 03/18/2008, -0/+11We like Ike
- Syphon8, on 03/18/2008, -7/+2Pit has /no/ weaknesses.
- r00ts, on 03/17/2008, -2/+2Ike is one of those characters that anyone can play and do well with (like Marth).
- ccoch, on 03/18/2008, -2/+1Everyone is good with Pit because they made him super good so that everyone will notice and like him. Then they're going to release another Kid Icarus game and it will sell really well. It's all a scam.
- Syphon8, on 03/17/2008, -9/+3Pit is not aka Kid Icarus. And everyone owns with him, he's completely rigged.
- coachmcguirk, on 03/17/2008, -25/+11I don't want to take any of the credit for this, but I am single-handedly responsible for 3 of those sales...
Just saying.... - sruffelman, on 03/17/2008, -22/+8... GAME!
- macatizor, on 03/17/2008, -16/+4First week? More like first day.
- motang, on 03/17/2008, -9/+61Good game, been playing it everyday since it came out.
- R75700, on 03/18/2008, -0/+3my freaking thumbs are sore
- linuxrocks2007, on 03/17/2008, -5/+160This is great news for Nintendo. Too bad their servers didn't fare as well.
- Aadain, on 03/17/2008, -8/+6THIS!!! I love the game, but it only feel's about 40% complete without the online matches :( I have a few friends with Wii's, but I'm the only one with SSBB right now, so I can't even do friend matches :(
Nintendo: Get your online servers up and running!!!- iofthestorm, on 03/17/2008, -9/+2Their servers work fine, it's just that some people's connections seem to suck and I guess the wifi code isn't as efficient as it could be. Plus it's a fast-paced fighting game so lag is more obvious, at least for me since the only games I played online before were RTSs.
- Lunarbunny, on 03/17/2008, -0/+9It feels like it's running on a TCP connection or a UDP connection that checks/waits for lost packets. I'd prefer laggers jumping around the screen while my motion stays fluid to me, as opposed to this slow-motion ***** we get instead.
- BlueSkyfish, on 03/18/2008, -1/+13The with anyone servers have been running pretty lag free since Wednesday. Try setting up your router
http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?bo ...- Yarnage, on 03/18/2008, -7/+4Why is this man being dugg up? If Nintendo developed their netcode correctly, you wouldn't need to manually expose your Wii to the outside world. Why should I have to configure my router so my Wii can access a server? XBox 360, XBox and PS 2/3 as well as all of my PC games can do so without this access.
- mustbepatient, on 03/18/2008, -1/+6I didn't have to do any special setup at all, and "with anyone" matches work just fine.
- iofthestorm, on 03/17/2008, -9/+2Their servers work fine, it's just that some people's connections seem to suck and I guess the wifi code isn't as efficient as it could be. Plus it's a fast-paced fighting game so lag is more obvious, at least for me since the only games I played online before were RTSs.
- elpohl, on 03/17/2008, -5/+3You are the chosen one.
- Syphon8, on 03/17/2008, -18/+4Servers? Wi-fi games are hosted on your Wii.
- AndrewDB, on 03/17/2008, -4/+19No, they're not. They're Nintendo Wifi's network servers.
- r00ts, on 03/17/2008, -2/+8From what I understand, they use the Nintendo WFC to connect players together, but the players still host the games on their Wii's.
- Syphon8, on 03/18/2008, -1/+3Yes, they are.
- AndrewDB, on 03/17/2008, -4/+19No, they're not. They're Nintendo Wifi's network servers.
- Shaflugi, on 03/18/2008, -0/+6Is there something wrong with inviting friends over to play in-person? It's much more fun, and you don't have to deal with lag.
- braineater2448, on 03/18/2008, -1/+2You obviously dont remember the Halo 3 launch. Wait a week and try again. You will be pleasantly surprised.
- Aadain, on 03/17/2008, -8/+6THIS!!! I love the game, but it only feel's about 40% complete without the online matches :( I have a few friends with Wii's, but I'm the only one with SSBB right now, so I can't even do friend matches :(
- pistonhonda, on 03/17/2008, -8/+44The record for a stand-alone game (not bundled with any hardware) is Super Mario Bros. 3 with eighteen million copies sold. I wonder if Brawl can surpass that mark?
- eyefone, on 03/17/2008, -9/+2That's a huge record to break, I think it will float around the 14-16 million area
- MonsieurShak, on 03/17/2008, -8/+3I don't think it'll even make it there. Maybe by the end of the Wii's life but not any time soon for sure.
- byrdgang, on 03/18/2008, -6/+1I always thought games like GTA or Halor or something would have been the best selling.
- sougly, on 03/18/2008, -2/+1But that is a single player game -- Brawl is multiplayer.
- daridave, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1I doubt it. SMB3 was simply amazing, on a completely different level... Both games have it all, but I ... can't quite explain it... but when Mario 3 came out, it just felt different. It OWNED anything out there, it was just a step up from all the other video games. Brawl is great, but we can't say such a thing of it... probably because by nature, it's "just" a fighter after all... very different market integration versus a platformer!
- frygar, on 03/18/2008, -2/+1It also had one hell of a marketing campaign behind it, including "The Wizard" starring Fred Savage. That being said, Super Mario Bros. 3 deserves every bit of success that it's garnered, and I agree with you, there was something about that game that just made it superb compared to anything else that was out at the time. Brawl has some of that magic, but it's not the same.
- Goombellaofgoom, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1That's over the game's entire lifespan, though. Just give smash bros a couple years.
- ProfChaosOmega, on 03/17/2008, -18/+7Only record breaking for nintendo, not the entire industry. http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/28/gamedaily-estima ...

- Anonemousk, on 03/17/2008, -21/+76Brawl is the only reason I've dusted the console off in a long time.
- jc7012, on 03/17/2008, -17/+30I dusted your mom off last night HEYOOO!
- BlueCyclone, on 03/17/2008, -4/+30Do yourself a favor and go pick up Zack and Wiki.
- ploke, on 03/18/2008, -2/+4I couldn't get into it
- kss42, on 03/18/2008, -2/+1Oh, if only jc7012 hadn't already made a your mom joke in this thread. But on the other hand...

- Jerryskid02, on 03/18/2008, -2/+37Did you not care for Mario Galaxy? I love that game.
- ThaDRD, on 03/18/2008, -4/+3Super Mario Galaxy is one of my favorite games of all time. It's way better than SS Brawl, IMHO
- fishbeef33, on 03/18/2008, -1/+1It's great, but it is a bit easy. I tend to suck at most video games, and even I got 120 stars with little problem.
- morninglorii, on 03/18/2008, -1/+6I actually just started playing it, now that spring break is here. I can't believe how good it is.
- ThaDRD, on 03/18/2008, -4/+3Super Mario Galaxy is one of my favorite games of all time. It's way better than SS Brawl, IMHO

pick up a copy of Wii Freeloader! - Eastcoastsurfer, on 03/18/2008, -3/+2Wii is the ultimate party console.
- braineater2448, on 03/18/2008, -2/+2You obviously havent been looking around much. There have been a bunch of satisfying Wii games. Don't forget to pick up mario kart Wii next month (And Okami and Bully if you're into PS2 ports)
- Sedako, on 03/17/2008, -13/+6This games winner is.... NINTENDO!
- jessecooper, on 03/17/2008, -18/+8All I'm saying is Zelda is a beast... and Olimar is the most annoying/powerful creature since Kim Jong-il
- yohnstoppable, on 03/18/2008, -4/+4Olimar? lmao
- Shadow82v, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1Suddenly, your credibility plummeted when you posted that comment.
- Asianwaste, on 03/18/2008, -0/+7They really did up Zelda. It's so easy to get the Final Smash balls with her.
- tech42er, on 03/18/2008, -0/+6"It's so easy to get the Final Smash balls with her"
This sounds vaguely sexual.- Asianwaste, on 03/18/2008, -0/+2I knew someone would open that can of worms. I couldn't find a way to say the world "balls" w/o some hint of innuendo so I went with it.
- tech42er, on 03/18/2008, -0/+6"It's so easy to get the Final Smash balls with her"
- yohnstoppable, on 03/18/2008, -4/+4Olimar? lmao
- msgus, on 03/17/2008, -10/+1Just played it recently. It was weird but in a good way.....
- folechno, on 03/17/2008, -10/+1Does this include the preorders?
- bluetytanium, on 03/17/2008, -14/+1Wow, wasn't expecting that.
- FizzanoMatrix, on 03/17/2008, -14/+1That's pretty impressive. Anyone know if they rendered any character moves in the shell script? Heard it on IGNtv...
- vSanity, on 03/17/2008, -13/+1Awsome.. I bought the game the day it came out!!! Still have not played it... waiting for my wii to be shipped back from nintendo since it needed to be cleaned!!! Arrg
/frustration- DaHuuuuuudge, on 03/18/2008, -1/+0"Cleaned"...sure. That's what they want you to think.
- scrag10, on 03/17/2008, -10/+18It may be a record but it doesn't seem like it should be. I am curious to how GTA 4 will fair, but being rated M may give it a little set back.
- louiedog, on 03/17/2008, -4/+3I'm too lazy to find the link, but a recent study showed that M rated games sell the best.
- Borgcube, on 03/18/2008, -0/+0You go get that link, it should help your credibility
- djruden, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1Hit's around the same time as Mario Kart Wii which should sell pretty well coming out of the gates as well. Could pull away some of the younger crowd. I'm still up in the air which I should get first.
- muffinmonk, on 03/18/2008, -0/+2It is spelled "fare".
- louiedog, on 03/17/2008, -4/+3I'm too lazy to find the link, but a recent study showed that M rated games sell the best.
- Renian, on 03/17/2008, -17/+6Take THAT, Halo 3!
- Asianwaste, on 03/18/2008, -1/+5I hate to side with the 360 fanboys... but take what? Lesser sales numbers?
- BenKenobi88, on 03/18/2008, -1/+2While you are getting dugg down because Brawl certainly sold less, people forget that Brawl is being released worldwide on different dates, compared to Halo 3's worldwide launch. So the 4.whatever million Halo 3 sold on day 1 could actually be beaten by Brawl's day 1 if it sells about 1.5 million in Others on day 1. Unlikely, though not impossible.
- IDIGTHEDIGG, on 03/17/2008, -31/+11Halo 3 sold that much in its first hour :)
- Syphon8, on 03/17/2008, -14/+35Ya, but Halo is just another FPS rehash.
Smash is fun year after year.- jc7012, on 03/17/2008, -11/+4like your mother
- qbix, on 03/17/2008, -17/+2Well, that's your opinion. I'm still very much enjoying Halo 3 with friends, online, where I can actually talk to them. According to you Halo 3's features such as saved replays, forge, equipment, 4 player co-op, stat tracking, etc are nothing new, specially on a console FPS. Right? Get real.
- Borgcube, on 03/18/2008, -0/+0Ok, but why would I want to do that? Its a FPS, genre created for PC. You play it to shoot people and you can talk to them in just about any FPS newer than 2000, and if not, than you can talk over some PC program, Xfire or Skype or whatever. But, come on, saved replays? May I point you to www.youtube.com. You get real.
- BabyWookie, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1I love how the Nintendo fangirls are digging you down for stating a simple opinion.
- canthraxp, on 03/18/2008, -4/+2Swapping some words...
"Ya, but Smash is just another Nintendo rehash.
Halo is fun year after year."
You notice that both companies do the same *****? (Btw, I have a wii, and waiting for the dual shock to grab a ps3).- Syphon8, on 03/18/2008, -3/+5It's not a Nintendo rehash, the SSB series are like, the only side scrolling fighters ever.
- Coffeedemon, on 03/18/2008, -2/+2*****. Its as much a rehash of Street Fighter (additional vertical and side to side movement but at heart a 2-D side perspective fighter) as modern FPS like Halo are rehashes of Doom and Goldeneye. Brawl is basically a really good refinement of Melee and the original - don't turn this thread into a house of lies just because you're a fan.
- Roy911, on 03/18/2008, -1/+1'don't turn this thread into a house of lies just because you're a fan.'
The same could easily be said about you.
And I'm not sure, but I would think that Syphon8 meant the only good side scroller with such a variety of characters. - Coffeedemon, on 03/18/2008, -1/+1"And I'm not sure, but I would think that Syphon8 meant the only good side scroller with such a variety of characters."
Then perhaps he should have stated it that way.
- Syphon8, on 03/18/2008, -3/+5It's not a Nintendo rehash, the SSB series are like, the only side scrolling fighters ever.
- Asianwaste, on 03/18/2008, -2/+3Isn't Smash Brawl just a rehash of 2 other games?
- mabba18, on 03/18/2008, -4/+2Isn't Halo 3 just a rehash of 2 other games?
- Asianwaste, on 03/18/2008, -2/+5Wasn't your post a rehash of 2 other posts?
- mabba18, on 03/18/2008, -4/+2Isn't Halo 3 just a rehash of 2 other games?
- topace3000, on 03/18/2008, -0/+4Halo and Smash are both fun and both of their third releases kick ass. Sheesh.
- Asianwaste, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1Probably the smartest thing said in this entire thread.
Edit: That rhymes and YOU KNOW IT DOES, DAMMIT!
- Asianwaste, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1Probably the smartest thing said in this entire thread.
- Syphon8, on 03/17/2008, -14/+35Ya, but Halo is just another FPS rehash.
- Persondude, on 03/17/2008, -14/+1Nice job! 120 per second... WOW.
- mowe, on 03/18/2008, -0/+3umm...i think it was per MINUTE...
- tech42er, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1More like 2 per second.
- WorldGroove, on 03/17/2008, -14/+2Nintendo did a good job not ruining SmashBros. Brawl is solid gameplay.
NOTE: If anyone of you people are in the BayArea and happen to run into a Pikachu with Blue-goggles online, side-steppin' and shockin' people and winning matches..... it might be me.- tacomafia, on 03/17/2008, -5/+1you cant choose character outfits in anonymous play
- coachmcguirk, on 03/17/2008, -13/+3Tough crowd for comments tonight. Almost everything is getting dugg down.
Nerds are so sensitive.
go ahead digg... work your magic... - lsumed, on 03/17/2008, -1/+52Well, I bought one. I've never played SSB before, but I was swept in by all of the hype. I'm enjoying it so far.
- PxCxG, on 03/17/2008, -16/+5I also bought it after having never played the other ones. I think it is OK, but I have to say I'm mostly disappointed. I don't really ever feel very interested in playing it -- I only do it hoping that I will start to like it more once I get better at it.
Anyone else feel similar about SSBB?- mediaspree, on 03/18/2008, -5/+3Yes. Button Masher for me... ?
- mirrorguy, on 03/18/2008, -0/+3Yeah, maybe it is if you play level one CPUs. Try mashing buttons while playing online.
- requiem3, on 03/18/2008, -6/+3You can't enjoy it on your own, you HAVE to have friends to play it with to enjoy it.
- ThaDRD, on 03/18/2008, -6/+2I'm not really feeling it that much either. I can't find a controller or button mapping that I like...the Wiimote/Nunchuck is a joke with this game. I mean who the ***** pushes up to jump? I use the classic controller, but Nintendo must think we all have baby hands because that bitch is SMALL. The controls don't feel nearly as tight at Super Mario Galaxy.
I find myself playing the side scrolling adventure part of the game more, except I can't figure out on the map if a flag means I have found everything or not; the manual is unclear.- Snokage, on 03/18/2008, -2/+7all pro's use the game cube controller. noob
- ThaDRD, on 03/18/2008, -3/+2Never owned a GameCube b/c I was a PS2 gamer.
- Narcowski, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1Classic controller FTW IMO
Gamecube is second.
- Jebrooks, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1You can customize all the controls on the wiimote. I also did not like the up d-pad to jump so I made down jump as well, works perfectly.
- ThaDRD, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1I know that, but I can't get a combo that's comfortable.
- JoranYar, on 03/18/2008, -0/+2here ya go http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/modea/mode ...

should explain anything that the manual missed about the adventure mode.
- Snokage, on 03/18/2008, -2/+7all pro's use the game cube controller. noob
- mediaspree, on 03/18/2008, -5/+3Yes. Button Masher for me... ?
- PxCxG, on 03/17/2008, -16/+5I also bought it after having never played the other ones. I think it is OK, but I have to say I'm mostly disappointed. I don't really ever feel very interested in playing it -- I only do it hoping that I will start to like it more once I get better at it.
- JephirDromulus, on 03/17/2008, -13/+1IT'S OVER 9000!!!
- noticedneutrino, on 03/17/2008, -32/+6Played it, not impressed. So far, nintendo hasn't delivered except for Galaxy
- Syphon8, on 03/17/2008, -13/+6Olimar for great justice.
- SeanRoss, on 03/17/2008, -1/+29I'm curious to see how Mario Kart Wii will do, but yes Brawl is well deserving of its praise
- reichg, on 03/17/2008, -12/+1i hope that stupid wii doesnt ruin the game
also i hope GTA4 release doesnt take away from MK wii success
- KingGoonie, on 03/18/2008, -1/+1I don't think it will.
- doronster195, on 03/18/2008, -0/+5That is one of the most anticipated Wii games for me. Mario Kart 64 was one of my favorite games of all time, Starfox a close second.
- braineater2448, on 03/18/2008, -0/+4The game is getting a lot of preorders. Some stores are already in the 50+ range. To put into context, Brawl had preorders ranging for 12 to 400+ depending on the store.
- reichg, on 03/17/2008, -12/+1i hope that stupid wii doesnt ruin the game
- solarisom, on 03/17/2008, -2/+38You can tell Sakurai put a lot of love into this game. Can't wait for online play, once things get settled.
- dcx516, on 03/17/2008, -33/+2who gives a *****, halo 3 sold 3.5 million in its first week
- Price, on 03/17/2008, -12/+26Halo 3, however, is *****.
- coolxal, on 03/17/2008, -23/+2On the contrary, Brawl, is *****.
- EXreaction, on 03/17/2008, -2/+7That couldn't be partially from all the hype they got by saying it's going to be so great, Forge would be awesome, and there would be a public server list could it? The main reason I bought it was because of how "powerful" Forge would be and public servers, but that was all BS. Forge and custom games were gimped and there isn't even a public server list.
- Price, on 03/17/2008, -12/+26Halo 3, however, is *****.
- foofightrs777, on 03/17/2008, -4/+64Anyone care to enlighten me as to how the hell you're supposed to effectively play w/ olimar?
- tzisc, on 03/17/2008, -5/+2hit b a lot and then roll around spamming up smash
- Flame0001, on 03/17/2008, -1/+48Keep lots of pikmin out at all times, as they grow stronger with time. Use your side-b attack a lot, when the pikmin land they do damage over time. All of Olimar's smashes and aerials depend on his pikmin, get used to how each one works, learn to cycle through (White are great for throwing, purple are great for close-range smashes and aerials, and red/yellow/blue are mainly themed differently, but are average. Olimar becomes a beast once his pikmin begin to flower, although staying alive and keeping your pikmin alive for that period of time is a challenge in itself.
- Zeldafreak104, on 03/17/2008, -0/+5Just practice... my friend said olimar sucks, then I played as him, and won. He then said "Well, its only because you're good with him" and that was like the 2nd time I had played as him. I have some friends that are insanely good with him.
also, you could try going here: http://smashboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=162 - Pelenclerk, on 03/17/2008, -0/+17Olimar is actually considered pretty good.
I don't play him, but I've been schooled. - Katana314, on 03/18/2008, -0/+9No idea, but I've had my ass handed to me by someone who knows him. Start out at three lives, he ends with two.
- thzae636, on 03/18/2008, -1/+0Don't get knocked off the stage.
Only having a tether recovery = bad - JRW5061, on 03/18/2008, -0/+2Olimar is amazing. His over-A move and up-A move (C-sticks) reach so far and do a lot of damage. If you jump and hit A he swings his pikmin and they do different things to the opponent depending on the color of the pikmin he is swinging. His up-B move works really well. And if you throw pikmin on people they are unable to attack u right away. He is one of the most fun to use but I also had trouble using him at first. God I love this game.
- Zeldafreak104, on 03/17/2008, -2/+43I got it the day it came out, and I've loved it so far. The characters are a lot more balanced. Not perfect, but more balanced then melee.
- doshindude, on 03/17/2008, -7/+1I disagree...Snake/Ganondorf handle like a slug.
- Shaflugi, on 03/18/2008, -0/+4So? How does that stop them from being balanced? I've been owned by Snake quite a few times, even as Sonic.
- lime148, on 03/18/2008, -0/+4They handle like slugs because they hit like trains.
- Asianwaste, on 03/18/2008, -2/+5The game's not perfect... I agree that the characters are a lot more balanced than Melee's roster. I probably just need to warm up to the new gameplay mechanics but so far I liked Melee's better. My beef with it is that legit combos and juggles are now a lot more difficult to perform and illegitimate ones like unlimited combos with certain moves or slapping someone with the fan until they hit 300% is utter crap.
The extras like online play and stage creator are a bonus but still not so good. Online play is hit or miss with each connection but overall performs pretty bad. Stage creator is okay, just lacks options. Nevertheless it's good to have both in so they are still a plus to the game.
This is a first impression to me... so far I like playing melee better, but sooner or later if I get used to the changes, the game will probably end up being better than I think it is now.- ploke, on 03/18/2008, -1/+1I haven't played brawl yet (I am away from my apartment) but I liked Smash 64 more than brawl
- doshindude, on 03/17/2008, -7/+1I disagree...Snake/Ganondorf handle like a slug.
- DiggMeTo42, on 03/17/2008, -7/+17Toon Link is simply awesome.
- Zeldafreak104, on 03/17/2008, -2/+4I agree, He's my favorite character.
- dagamer34, on 03/18/2008, -0/+10Toon Link >>>>>>> Young Link.
And he finally has a kill move! - Asianwaste, on 03/18/2008, -0/+3Glad they put some use in the boomerang.
- TheWorm, on 03/17/2008, -26/+3That's not even that impressive. I was blown away by Halo 3's 4.2 million, but it seems like the excitement for SSB is limited to a smaller group of Wii fans.
- BenKenobi88, on 03/18/2008, -1/+3Halo 3 was worldwide, and sells the most in America. Brawl sold a million first day in Japan, over a million first day in the US, and will probably sell about a million in Others when it releases there. It will likely add up to 3.5 million worldwide first day sales, not shabby at all.
- Borgcube, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1A "smaller group of Wii fans"? Now, I don't know for certain, but a best selling console published by a company that is making consoles for a long time now should have at least a little more fans than a console that had only one predeccesor.
- krd1979, on 03/17/2008, -10/+76I looks like teh haloz fanboys are hitting digg hard with the down votes... good for them, but SSBB is still a mega hit and will most likely outsell any other game this gen in the long run... yes even Halo3 and GTA4... why? b/c it appeals to a massive audience (the hardcore + everyone else) and almost everyone w/ a Wii will get it and many people will buy a Wii just for this.
- coolxal, on 03/17/2008, -25/+3Lol, that's where you're wrong.
I can guarantee that a vast majority of the Wii "fanbase" consists of casuals that buy a Wii for Wii Sports.- RandomTaskMan, on 03/18/2008, -0/+5***** you buddy.
i play my DBZ, Manhunt 2, No More Heroes, Legend of Zelda, Mario Galaxy.
I haven't touched wii sports since a month after launch.
I dont think you have a brain.
Enjoy your peanuts. - adasha, on 03/18/2008, -0/+51.4 million people and growing disagree with you
- RandomTaskMan, on 03/18/2008, -0/+5***** you buddy.
- iiBeLiEvE, on 03/18/2008, -7/+10I can guarantee you're wrong.
- SSCrow, on 03/18/2008, -10/+2Because all the Mums and Pops are going to put away the WiiFit Board in favor for an inferior sequel to the greatest game on the Gamecube.
And yes, I do think that Melee > Brawl- VgRasta, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1You're too slow!
- Albo23, on 03/18/2008, -9/+2I swear this game is just like the Gamecube one. Seriously wtf is with all these remakes, it's not Hollywood. Nintendo, make some real innovation, not some gimmicky-ass controller.
- RandomTaskMan, on 03/18/2008, -4/+4Go back to your RROD or George-Foreman grill.

- JRW5061, on 03/18/2008, -0/+2Agreed. Even his name sounds hilarious.
- xenosteel, on 03/18/2008, -1/+1Nothing beats Wario in that category.
- hixxy, on 03/19/2008, -0/+1Nothing beats going online and laying down the entire match. :]
- xeroblaze, on 03/17/2008, -5/+11I just picked up this game and it is a lot of fun, especially when high on marijuana and/or alcohol.
If you don't enjoy marijuana and/or alcohol, it is still a lot of fun to play.
However, I have had some problems with the online play as it tends to lag frequently. Even in the Smash Brothers Brawl manual, it says that it is normal to experience "freezing" during online play.
NO, IT'S NOT NORMAL!!!!- boredpnoy, on 03/17/2008, -0/+8its a feature!
- dagamer34, on 03/18/2008, -0/+8***** of people raping the servers. I'd wait a while.
- 8BitGaming, on 03/18/2008, -0/+18have you ever done Luigi's Final Smash on WEED?
- thebrokenlight, on 03/17/2008, -1/+13Luigi's taunt is epic.
- Asianwaste, on 03/18/2008, -0/+4which one?
- joel8x, on 03/18/2008, -0/+6No, if it were epic, it would last a very long time.
- Goombellaofgoom, on 03/18/2008, -0/+2I think the word you mean is epoch...
- Lionhart, on 03/18/2008, -2/+1His final smash however is pure garbage.
- pkakira88, on 03/18/2008, -0/+4if by garbage you mean bitchin then yes. For anyone that could dodge it inside the radius they're almost certainly rapped. And you can edge guard with it very effectivly.
final smash + up taunt = epic

- haterofps3, on 03/17/2008, -0/+17A record allows it to compete against all games from whenever
- JointVenture, on 03/18/2008, -3/+2My point is there are a lot of Wii owners out there that dont have ANY games to buy or play.
- Pikachelsea, on 03/18/2008, -1/+3And his point is that it doesn't matter. A record is a record.

Much better my ass. Uh oh, the bury brigade hates the truth! - BenKenobi88, on 03/18/2008, -1/+31) Halo 3 is frontloaded, Brawl will sell better over time, just like Melee sells to this day. Hell, Brawl in Japan has pretty much past Japan's Melee lifetime sales.
2) Halo 3 was a worldwide launch, Brawl is not, Brawl sold a million in Japan, over a million in the US, and will probably sell a million in Europe and Others. That'll bring it near 4 million, hell, it could almost beat Halo 3.

- smallwang, on 03/17/2008, -9/+17Is it me, or are most of the stages blinding with so much ***** happening. Im gonna get a siezure playing with so much ***** flashing and moving around. Its difficult to keep track of everthing, especially with the constant zooming in and out. I also hate the stages that are so zoomed out you can barely make out the characters and what they are doing.
Nintendo also needs to fix all the networking issues, and matchmaking taking forever. Friend codes alone are annoying enough...- PxCxG, on 03/18/2008, -2/+4I agree with everything you wrote. I don't see why people are burying your comment, is it really the case that people are that biased that they can't talk even talk about parts of the game that are annoying?
- tech42er, on 03/18/2008, -1/+4Well, that's kind of the point of the game. The WiFi issues are a fair criticism, but the zooming, scrolling, and crowded stages are the essence of the game.
- TobiasParker, on 03/18/2008, -0/+2And are obnoxious.
- PxCxG, on 03/18/2008, -0/+2It's the essence of the game that you can't see what's going on sometimes?
- wafflesomd, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1This must be the first super smash you've played.
- tech42er, on 03/18/2008, -1/+4Well, that's kind of the point of the game. The WiFi issues are a fair criticism, but the zooming, scrolling, and crowded stages are the essence of the game.

But no it is not just you, I agree %100- pigducksheep, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1i like the moving stages they're lots of fun. although friend codes are a serious flaw.
- wafflesomd, on 03/18/2008, -1/+2Those aspects, excluding the networking issues, are what make the game fun, smallwang.

- doshindude, on 03/17/2008, -4/+17The game is amazing, however Online needs an overhaul.....took me 15 minutes to do a normally 2 minute match due to insane lag. Also, the random matchup system is far too anonymous...
- Slayerdude51982, on 03/18/2008, -1/+1I haven't had any lag issues, maybe once or twice but nothing horrible.
