6. Pi-ka-CHU!!!! - S7aind, on 06/25/2008, -1/+158What I never got was why pokemon only fought pokemon. Why didn't team rocket use them to attack people?
- XenoSNK, on 06/25/2008, -0/+157I always wondered whatever happened to all those level 100 Pokemon after their trainer dies. Do they get set free and terrorize the ***** out of whoever they want? This is serious business!
- Konstantino, on 06/24/2008, -3/+139I did always wonder how such horrible trainers could rise to become Gym leaders. Of course, the game would be totally ruined if you couldn't progress because your level 10 mudkip couldn't defeat a Gym leader with level 100s...
- Carrot1991, on 06/25/2008, -14/+147Coming from a teen who's had a leaking valve and a serious heart condition only to make a full recovery twice. This guy is speaking *****. The nurses were amazing and the Doctors were, too, really helpful. I also did not come out feeling worse and I have never heard of it being "crueler" to treat cancer....
A ridiculous start to an article that I overly enjoyed. - VgRasta, on 06/24/2008, -3/+106Bad idea mentioning mudkips around these parts....

I'm gonna go kill myself now... - LordofChaosIori, on 06/25/2008, -7/+48I'm 19 and I love Pokemon. The complexity has to be one of the reasons I still love it ever since Red and Blue. Mind you, all this complexity hasn't been around since Red & Blue, it's been added progressively through the games, so for me it's like the game has grown with me and kept me interested in such a way that I haven't grown bored of it because it's too simple. I do have to agree, however, that it does get out of hand:
http://serebii.net/games/ivs.shtml - baldr, on 06/25/2008, -6/+47I laughed when he stated "In America, there is a widespread belief that free healthcare is a wondrous and desirable thing" What the hell is he smoking? Obama is continual called a socialist by his opponents and he doesn't even believe in free/universal healthcare.
- mspink, on 06/25/2008, -5/+46"Pokémon makes children believe free healthcare works"
Do children who play Pokémon really care about healthcare? They just want to play a game and be young. - TommyTikal, on 06/25/2008, -7/+48Just chiming in as a Canadian who appreciates Universal Health Care. Boo #1.
- Nidis, on 06/25/2008, -3/+44I always wondered about the animal-pokemon cross deal aswell. Do animals exist in the world of pokemon or what? Do they have dogs, and Growlithes, or just Growlithes? If they don't have animals, then why do they call Starly a bird pokemon? >_> They mustn't have birds. I think pokemon are just supposed to be a replacement of the idea of animals altogether.
This discussion is probably the coolest ***** thing on the internet. - MrJagil, on 06/25/2008, -0/+40My biggest complaint about the franchise is that they havn't made an mmorpg yet. I mean wtf?! Just hire blizzard or mythic or something, and it would be the greatest game of all time.
World of Pokémon - BoneheadFarker, on 06/25/2008, -6/+45Pikachu: Pika pika, pikaCHU!
Squirtle: Squirtle! Squirtle squirt...AH ***** IT! What the ***** is this *****! You cram me into a ***** ball the size of your fist all day only let me out to fight some prick you picked a fight with, and you expect me to talk like a retarded ***** chimp on acid?? ***** THIS *****!
Pikachu: DUDE! Shut up before he takes us into the shed again! My ***** hasn't been the same since... - Cate320, on 06/25/2008, -0/+36I disagree with #6.
I think one of the major reasons that pokemon is so popular is that it appeals to such a broad audience. I don't think it is "aimed at children". Children are certainly capable of playing it at the most basic level, but then it has all the other goodies for those of us adults that like to min/max and collect everything. If it wasn't "needlessly complex" then they would lose the adult/teen audience. - Falldog, on 06/25/2008, -3/+371 though 6 should really be Pokemon porn.
- trixyfox, on 06/25/2008, -0/+33I agree. They always looked like they were holding whips and stuff, and you were just a scrawny teenager. Would've been a lot easier
- Kohaxx, on 06/25/2008, -8/+38A rebuttal by a guy who grew up on Pokemon:
1. Pokémon makes children believe free healthcare works:
The Free Healthcare system doesn't apply to people in Pokemon, in fact even in the kids show you never see a person get treated for injuries other than the occasional first aid. This implies that the society in fact has no healthcare, and hospitals for people are never shown. The Free National Healthcare only applies to pokemon which makes it a free national veterinary clinic system, and then you have to realize that these creatures magically get turned into beams of light and absorbed into itty bitty balls. The balls are treated by pushing a button on a simple machine that heals everything instantly by flashing lights. If you could heal every ailment with just the application of a cheap band-aid that was on infinite supply, free healthcare would work.
2. The whole world revolves around Pokémon:
While true, the fact is the pokemon would be the ones controlling the planet, they can communicate with every other species of pokemon, are far more dangerous and powerful than the humans, some are even telepathic. It is very likely the humans have adopted this habit of obsessing over Pokemon in every way to show their devotion to the Pokemon and prevent from getting flamebroiled by a level 12 Charmander.
3. The Gym Leaders became Gym Leaders even though they're *****:
This is intentional seeing as the only way to get into the Pokemon league is to collect 8 badges, the gym leaders have to be ***** so that the pokemon league doesn't sit around all day twiddling their thumbs. I'm fairly certain there's a requirement somewhere in the gym leader training manual that says :Your team and gym must have one of the 17 themes, you may recruit minions but you are not allowed to be over a certain level (probably 50).
4. This thing:
I have nothing.
5. There's a difference between Pokémon and dogs:
Point back to rebuttal #2. If every animal on Earth could talk to each other, make plans, have elemental attacks, and shrug off Flamethrower attacks then we would have died out a long time ago. The only reason humans exist in the Pokemon world is because they developed technology to capture gigantic wild animals in small portable devices and convince them that they love them and need them to protect them.
6. The game is needlessly complex:
Bah, that's the point of the game. Your average kid will run a team of his favorite cutesy creatures, while the nerdier ones will obsess over details and max/min to be competitive with their friends. The complexity makes it an interesting strategy game for adults and teenagers while being adorable and easy enough for kids to get through it. I have a huge age difference between myself and my younger siblings, and Pokemon has always been the one thing I could enjoy with them, it's fantastic at what it does. I've met fathers who started playing because they wanted to relate better to their seven year old sons and it has been enjoyable enough for them while also providing a good common ground.
Wow...I just realized I've thought way too much on this, but either way, fun article, #4 made me laugh although it would've been more hilarious if it was a picture of the tongue themed Pokemon or the Anna Nicole Smith themed Pokemon. - Shadowhawk22, on 06/25/2008, -0/+30Po--Ke--Mon!

- deevay, on 06/25/2008, -0/+25PO-Ke-Mon!
- kingmanic, on 06/25/2008, -3/+26Being from the UK he lacks perspective. If he met more Americans and read the statistics on how utterly tragic the US system is he'd change his mind. Nearly all the state run health systems are facing worst case scenarios right now but despite this the average person still receives better care then in America. Pokemon is Japanese centric and their system isn't too bad.
- popolop, on 06/25/2008, -1/+23Oh, you're my best friend
- asskicker32, on 06/25/2008, -4/+25on the one hand, your valid points warrant a digg, but your declaration that this is "the coolest ***** thing on the internet" begs for a bury. Where do I go? Please help me Jesus
