Never. Club Nintendo stuff has almost exclusively been Japan-only. - inactive, on 11/17/2007, -2/+16This really great, wonder when the US will get similar product. Dugg for coolness.
- dlightle, on 11/17/2007, -0/+14They expect you to wear a costume when you play now?
- airwalkery2k, on 11/17/2007, -0/+13Nintendo of America hates America.
- Spamcan, on 11/17/2007, -0/+12Since this is unlikely to come out stateside and I know quite a few people are drooling uncontrollably right now you should know SNES and NES adapters are already available for the wii. A bit on the expensive side, but if you've already got some old controllers laying around this should take the sting out of that Club Nintendo perk envy.
http://www.retrousb.com/index.php?categoryID=80 - gfunk84, on 11/17/2007, -1/+11What they should do is release Wii-branded (all glossy white) versions of the old controllers.
- dagooh, on 11/17/2007, -2/+11I love the design of the SNES controller, it felt just perfect back then and I would love to use this to play the VC games, I hope Nintendo releases it for regular costumers too.
- DefaultGen, on 11/17/2007, -0/+7No diggers anally corrected that it's a Super Famicom controller? I'm impressed.
- brjndr, on 11/17/2007, -0/+7actually, those plug into the system, not the wiimote.
- bubbakja, on 11/17/2007, -0/+6There have been tons of awesome exclusives the US never saw. I still remember the gold zelda n64 controller...
- AQUANETA, on 11/17/2007, -3/+8Coughclassiccontrollercough
- inactive, on 11/17/2007, -1/+5Althought might've been one the best systems, it had probably one of the worst controller schemes...
- smiley2billion, on 11/17/2007, -1/+5I loved the classic control because it reminded me so much of the SNES controller. This is obviously even better.
- Nikole, on 11/17/2007, -2/+5aww nostalgia
- grumbel, on 11/17/2007, -0/+3The layout was quite good, it just happens that almost all the games for the N64 ended up being 3D and analog stick driven instead of a mix of 2D and 3D, so that the dpad part was rather wasted. On the other side it would make a great controller for the VC, not only can it do N64 like the original, it could also give you six face buttons for stuff like Street Fighter.
- Squill, on 11/19/2007, -0/+3I just wish they'd make a N64 version, it's hard playing N64 games with the Classic Controller.
- mrpopsicleman, on 11/17/2007, -1/+4Agreed. Playing Super Mario 64 with the Classic controller's B A button layout just feels awkward.
- inactive, on 11/17/2007, -1/+4What's wrong with the current Wii add-on controller?
- brjndr, on 11/17/2007, -2/+5someone needs to make an adaptors that can plug into the bottom of the wiimote and will accept n64, snes or nes controller.
edit....
Doh, someone did....
http://www.retrousb.com/index.php?categoryID=80 - diggdowner, on 11/17/2007, -0/+3I can confirm that this works with my third-party ASCII Pad. The turbos work too!
I was a little nervous that it wouldn't because the Wii wouldn't recognize my third-party Gamecube controller. - Shaflugi, on 11/17/2007, -3/+5Regular customers..? Japanese people aren't regular?
- Billykerr, on 11/17/2007, -0/+2It's only available through Club Nintendo, so regular customers would be those who aren't part of that club.
- DefaultGen, on 11/17/2007, -0/+2Well it's not a Super Famicom controller.
- erwanl, on 11/17/2007, -0/+2The controller doesn't costs you any point. You get it for free if you accumulated enough rank points in 2007. In short, you get to choose between the 3 presents (snes controller, Mario Galaxy soundtrack or 2008 Calendar) and you will still have all your points to get something else. Also, even if you already used your points, your "rank" points didn't go down so it's OK.
Last year they gave away a battery cover for Wii remote with your Mii imprinted on it. - aksn1p3r, on 11/17/2007, -2/+4takes me back to innocence
- Lane, on 11/17/2007, -2/+3I don't see why you couldn't just import one of these. I doubt the plug is different here in the US.
- NobleArc, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1I think this exclusive one is just more nostalgic. It's a real throw back to be playing Super Mario World on a Nintendo console again, but playing it with an authentic SNES controller (even if it's the Japanese wording on it) is just awesome.
- Guspaz, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1You can buy them now, where people take old SNES controllers and pre-mod them to act as gamecube devices (which plug into the Wii for virtual console).
What's uncertain is if the new controllers are just official versions of those mods, or if they plug into the wiimote and act as real wii peripherals. - tensaibaka, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1Woohoo!! I just broke the 200 point mark for Nintendo Club Japan here with Biohazard Umbrella Chronicles. You get Nintendo points for each game you buy, but what the article doesn't tell you is that you get double points for buying the game and inputting the code in the first two weeks it's released. If these don't cost too many points, I might just pick up an extra one to put on ebay. Although they'll probably be around 300 or so, seeing as how some of the Classic Nintendo Soundtrack CD's are that many points.
- inactive, on 11/17/2007, -2/+3Wow, I desperately want and need one of those.
- erwanl, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1they don't cost any point, you get one for free as long as you accumulated at least 400 points in 2007. So you can't get an extra one.
- tankexmortis, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1Tiny d-pad.
- inactive, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1coughcoughcough
- mecole21, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1im holding out for the Virtual Boy controller...
- honeymustardn, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1Can't you use the classic controller for VC games? It's pretty much the same as the SNES controller.
- Saiing, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1You need to be in Club Nintendo. It's a club run by the big N for Japanese customers. When you buy a Japanese Nintendo game, console, controller or other peripheral it comes with a little certificate with a code on it. You go onto the club website, answer a few questions and then enter the code, and you are given a certain number of points (games are just a few points, a console counts for more). When you have accumulated enough points, you can choose from a range of free gifts. So basically even if you wanted to import one, getting one would be almost impossible unless you can find a club member with enough points to choose it and sell it to you.
I'm a member myself, and I have a fair few points in the bank right now. I'm keen to find out how many this will go for. My wife will love it. She's been wanting something like this for ages. - erwanl, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1Technically, you could - but it's not something that you can buy in a shop. You have to be a member of Club Nintendo, and have accumulated more than 400 points during the last year. Sure, some of those will end up on Ebay, but I wonder how many and for how much they will sell...
(Actually I am a platinum member of Club Nintendo Japan, and I already ordered mine... Too bad I have to wait April of next year before I get it!) - erwanl, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1It's not uncertain. It's written on the page in Japanese that you plug them to the wii remote, just like the classical controller.
http://club.nintendo.jp/rank2007/index.html - honeymustardn, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1Yeah, I have the NES one, it's wonderful.
- Saiing, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1Damnit! I forgot. I missed the deadline. Galaxy is sitting on my shelf at home and I forgot to add the code. I'm on 190 points right now so it would have been a good boost.
- iheartjebus, on 11/17/2007, -3/+3eh, I guess it's cool for the nostalgia factor and all, but I really think the classic controller is already perfect for playing old nes and snes games.
- inactive, on 11/17/2007, -2/+2i did
- SeriusBlac, on 11/17/2007, -2/+2It'd be cool to have an N64 controller for the Wii!
- RandomGuySteve, on 11/17/2007, -1/+1Compared to Japan.. Yes. They simply half-ass it over here compared to the homeland.
Like how Sony treats Europe. - sanman, on 11/17/2007, -3/+3Furthermore, the PS3 "surge" in sales turns out not to have been so big after all:
http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/ps3-sales-b ...
That figure included sales for all unit types, including PS2 and PSP, so it's not that impressive - Cybertronic, on 11/30/2007, -0/+0Lame.... Go to retrousb.com and pick up an SNES to gamecube/wii SNES or NES controller adaptor. Exclusivce my ass
- inactive, on 11/17/2007, -1/+1Yeah once this comes out I'll never use the classic LOL!
- DiverBlack, on 12/17/2007, -0/+0test
- jsambarreto, on 11/17/2007, -0/+0This is a great novelty for the SNES maniacos like me!
