- DanteDefiance, on 04/14/2009, -3/+24I'm going to be called a nerd but I totally listen to the Final Fantasy soundtracks.
Everything after VIII kinda sucks eggs however. - Doomsan, on 04/14/2009, -0/+18I'm not a huge fan of the Final Fantasy series (i HATE random encounters) but i love the music of every single game, it's fantastic.
- FFXIfrohike, on 04/14/2009, -1/+17Nobuo Uematsu, forever.
- anthonylam, on 04/14/2009, -0/+12Final Fantasy VI is still my favourite game and soundtrack in the series.
- soundsofreason, on 04/14/2009, -1/+13Did you play X? That soundtrack was amazing too.
- BlueCadenza, on 04/14/2009, -2/+9Uematsu is simply a genius. He helped raise the bar for the role music should play in games, and essentially raised them to the quality of film scores. Games took on a more theatrical quality and earned their way into the emotional experience of the game. I look at classical music today and I'm saddened that there's nothing happening there. Students are raised to emulate and copy the greats of generations ago, but never encouraged to innovate and create. We can't play the same Mozart and Stravinsky for the next thousand years as if nothing else exists, and classical music is staying on that path.
For me, video game music gives me some hope that creativity and composition is not a lost art. - Elranzer, on 04/14/2009, -0/+6Don't diss Final Fantasy IX's soundtrack. It's the most underrated of the series. It was Nobuo's last full work, and it's seriously better than 7 and most of 8 (FF8 is still probably his best though, followed by FF6).
FF10 and beyond were not Nobuo, so it's easy to see why they weren't as good. - vpshockwave, on 04/14/2009, -1/+7The music is great. Look up some of his live orchestrated stuff. It's amazing.
- AmericanGunner, on 04/14/2009, -0/+66 was better than 7. To me I have no greater gaming memories than playing the nes and snes final fantasies. I get so nostalgic thinking about it...
- Scrappy1850, on 04/14/2009, -3/+8they got rid of randoms. play FF12
- ancalagon73, on 04/14/2009, -0/+4Agreed. Pick up 20020220.
- theodenking, on 04/14/2009, -0/+4*EXP
- JollyDumple, on 04/15/2009, -0/+3FFIX is still one of my favorite games ever. Pretty much the perfect RPG.
- malechite, on 04/14/2009, -0/+3and never gain XP! hahah
- howyudoin, on 04/14/2009, -0/+3I wish they had something like that for Megaman. Being able to listen to storm eagle or spark mandrill would make my day.
- Elranzer, on 04/14/2009, -0/+3There are specific orchestrated albums to most of the FF games...
FF1&FF2: Symphonic Suite
FF3: Eternal Legend of the Wind
FF4: Celtic Moon
FF5: Dear Friends
FF6: Grand Finale
FF7: Reunion Tracks
FF8: Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec
...after that they stopped making them :-( - Elranzer, on 04/14/2009, -0/+3Uematsu was very good but let's not forget that the FATHER of cinematic video game music is Koji Kondo. Before him, everything else was just bloops and beeps.
For the record, Kondo is who wrote the music for the Mario, Zelda and most of Nintendo's games. - malechite, on 04/14/2009, -0/+3I agree with you 100% although VII has some amazing music as well. Seeing the opening Bombing Mission played by a full orchestra gave me chills. it was epic.
- nemodot, on 04/14/2009, -0/+3In FFVIII you can avoid it by using an ability from Diablo, the Guardian Force.
- inactive, on 04/14/2009, -0/+3The best song of ALL Final Fantasy is Terra theme from FF6:

another cool one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJwvwNhuVYU&fea ... - nemodot, on 04/14/2009, -0/+3I love "Fisherman horizons" theme. I also have the fanfare of FFVII as my ringtone.
- nemodot, on 04/14/2009, -0/+2Hell yeah
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQuLl7MhO_o - wondertwins, on 04/14/2009, -1/+3FFVII - best music ever. especially if u hear the oechestrated version of aerith's theme
- NathanielJ, on 04/14/2009, -0/+2Yep, Terra's theme wins hands-down. OCRemix has an awesome guitar remix of it here: http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00206/
Forever Rachel from FF6 is really nice too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4EkQ4l4QzQ - malechite, on 04/14/2009, -0/+2I just saw Distant Worlds in Minneapolis this past Saturday and had the opportunity to meet Nobuo Uematsu! The concert was EPIC
http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v2762/ ... - stauf7, on 04/14/2009, -1/+3Dick move.
- Elranzer, on 04/14/2009, -0/+2The "fully orchestrated" FF7 soundtrack only has three tracks on it, though...
- Achaean, on 04/14/2009, -1/+3I'm with ya on that. I have both the original soundtrack as well as the fully orchestrated soundtrack of Final Fantasy VII, and I love every minute of it.
- BobAlmightyX, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1Agreed. Although there are a few songs on VII and XI that I really love too.
- 1160Smith, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1I've never really looked for Mega Man X series music, but for Mega Man 2 & 3 these are my favorite:

http://www.projectxweb.com/ - Kaegro, on 04/22/2009, -0/+1FF 1 was the best of the games. Who here beat it with JUST A white mage?
Easiest team to beat the game was a fighter/thief/red mage/black belt combo. No leveling up, just straight path of death.
Sword-chucks yo! - BobAlmightyX, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1Your wish is my command.
http://www.protomen.com/protomen.htm
Well, it's actually original music, but it's still pretty cool. - humptyz, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1X was pretty good too. XII has grown on me the more I've listened to it. "Dalmasca Estersands", "Theme of the Empire", and "Esper Battle" are highlights. Although Uematsu wasn't involved with any of them. Overall I like the VI and VII soundtracks the best.
- ezyeric, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1Being a huge fan of FF music I went to the first Dear Friends show in Chicago and also the Distant Worlds in Chicago last year. Met Nobuo as well. His music has changed my life. I'm going to the Grand Rapids concert tonight, I will be the guy with FF8's Edea, literally.
- FFXIfrohike, on 04/14/2009, -1/+2OMG no spoiler tags?
- darkowl02, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1ff is the *****!
- centran, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1I wonder if in a hundred years the classical music stations will be playing music from John Williams, Danny Elfman, and Nobuo Uematsu.
- Kaegro, on 04/22/2009, -0/+1thanks fro the link!
- RockMuncher, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1I love Uematsu's musical scores, and I love that he, and video games in general are opening orchestral and classically themed music up to new and enthusiastic generations, getting rid of the undeserved old, stuffy label.
- Sentenial, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1I was so obsessed with his songs that I ended up learning many of them on the piano.
- cardcaptorstace, on 04/29/2009, -0/+1Nobuo Uematsu is amazing. Seriously this guy needs a lifetime award. :)
- Casty, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1This came to Grand Rapids, MI... and I didn't have time to go, I'm already regretting it...
- inactive, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1Nice remix man!
- Elranzer, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1Um, he only founded the damn band, you know...
- themastersb, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1Most of the time RPGs are random encounters.
- lorenn, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1yep, this definitely has absolutely nothing to do with owen pallett
- slayerbabe, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1FFVII AND the entire Chrono Trigger soundtrack
- hatdrop, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1i also purchased all the soundtracks, the piano version of gilgamesh's them is ridiculous. the ff6 credits have to be my favorite though.
- hatdrop, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1yea but the level of the bosses are dependent on your party's level so it's a non issue. stats are also raised via junctioned spells which can be drawn in the over world as well. sorry to nerd out, i haven't played that game since early 2000 but i just had this exact conversation with a friend online earlier today -_-
- Kaegro, on 04/22/2009, -0/+1well, I know what I'm not watching.
