- freehunter, on 10/11/2007, -6/+59This article is ripped almost word for word from IGN without a source. The IGN link has two extra paragraphs, though. I'm burying this story.
http://wii.ign.com/articles/790/790232p1.html - coheedcollapse, on 10/11/2007, -1/+47My favorite part was realizing I could barricade the windows and doors and having a small moment of fleeting success on tiding the flow of zombies from the outside. That is until I heard the chainsaw guy firing up his favorite little toy.
- gnslngr1919, on 10/11/2007, -2/+47It also borrows the "shoot things and they die" game mechanics from... well, half of the games out there. Arguing that point is like saying that no movies should be given a good score because they are a combination of moving pictures and sound. What a horrible lack of ingenuity.
- kickcows, on 10/11/2007, -3/+38SHOOT EM IN THE HEAD!!!
(never gets old) - KittySpark1es, on 10/11/2007, -3/+30If there was ONE reason to own a game cube, RE4 was it. Great game, easily a classic. I still vividly remember getting chased by a chainsaw wielding zombie fool.
- desistere, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18Here's a link to the trailer on the Japanese Capcom site. It shows the wii controls for the game. I never played through the original, so I think I'll pick it up for the $29.99 price tag.
http://www.capcom.co.jp/wii_bio4/premium/sight.html - nonpareil, on 10/11/2007, -7/+23Nice, a reason to dust off the Wii before Galaxy/Prime hit.
- gormenghast, on 10/11/2007, -6/+21Made for Wii imo. Can't wait. Drag about the laser point loss though =
- MewTwo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Gotta lotta good things on sale, stranger!
- knulpm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14"UN FORASTERO!"
"Hey, it's that dog!" - dignon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14"Hey stranger... what you buying?"
"Resident Evil 4 for the Wii... oh, and the Tommy Gun"
;-) - r0ryb0ryalis, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13Wow Mykos, just wow.
"Zomg the game borrows the "push the A button to open doors" from Zelda!!11!!1~"
It's a creative way of keeping you on the edge of your seat, perfect for a game such as this. - Blueshrike, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Thing is, RE4 takes the horror genre and indeed, gameplay in general, much farther than Gears of War.
RE4: Interactive thumb-biter cut-scenes
RE4: RPG-fused weapon upgrade system
RE4: The best diversity in maps, graphics, and puzzles I've seen (and I've been there since the 2600 days)
RE4: Non-linear! (sure there is an ultimate path but you have lots of freedom)
Gears of War: The hide-behind innovation (which is very cool... and I own the game, but still, you take away graphics and this innovation... you're left with every other FPS) - heysuburbia, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11You're right, I didn't notice that.
I run the site and got the info via email from somebody, I provided the correct source.
Thanks! - thegetupkid86, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13Copy/pasting an article from a more reputable site (IGN) and then getting all the credit on Digg...pretty lame...
- MewTwo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Yeah, it's the same game... I read this headline and thought... "durrh"
Most people say it was the best game of 2005, best Resident Evil - menichols, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Can't wait for this.
Kicking a zombie's head off is one of my most cherished gaming pasttimes. - Myonosken, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8The house scene was definitely one of my favourite scenes of last gen, perhaps even ever.
- freestatelover, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9It is the GameCube game with all of the PS2 extras levels and then more stuff added. On top of that, people rave about how much better it is to play with the wiimote. It sounds like this will be the best RE4 out there just as the Wii version of Madden was the highest rated version of that game.
- dagamer34, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Maybe because it's Wii controls that adapted very well to the gameplay. It's quite easy to get a tacked on feeling if not done right, but games that use the Wiimote well will always be looked at highly for the most part.
- swavalier711, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7This will be an excellent game to buy.
It will bring me back to my House of the Dead days in the arcade. - bokchoi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6What you just said was basically it borrows elements from pressing buttons to play a game.
- beervolcano, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I'd have to agree with r0ryb0ryalis. Both God of War games used this gameplay mechanic and I don't feel that it takes anything away from the game.
- Dundasbro, on 10/11/2007, -6/+12This game is awesome seriously. Hell, check out this video of deaths put to benny hill music (it's hilarious). http://youtube.com/watch?v=OCivL27FCYY
- alvination, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Can't wait! My friend had RE4 for the Gamecube and I was gonna play it on the Wii with the GC controllers til I heard a Wii version was coming out. I'm staying away from the GC version until I get my hands on this one. The Wii needs more badass games like this and Manhunt that will make it a killer console and not perceived as some gimmicky system.
- krabat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5The only thing that bugged me about the Cube version was that the widescreen wasn't anamorphic. I mean, come on!
- royalwcheese, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5mc chris FTW!
- r0ryb0ryalis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Haha the same happened to me! I bought it only 2 weeks ago and then heard the news, so now it is my goal to find time to beat the game before June 19th (my birthday! What a treat). Though I am very excited to run through the game again, as I already (just got to the Island) consider it one of the greatest games I've ever played. I, for one, am happy they are making this port with what I'm sure will be excellent controls.
- beervolcano, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I never played the GC version either (or any other version for that matter). I was never a big fan of the RE series, but considering the $29.99 price and the amount of acclaim both versions got/are getting, I will have to pick this one up.
- nonpareil, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4@jacksons
I generally agree with you about remakes of old games -- what are we up to, version 4 of Ninja Gaiden on the original Xbox? However, when designers (1) do something innovative new to the old game (as they have here, with the control scheme and ostensibly the graphics), and (2) offer the remake at a *significantly lower price point* ($30), no problem. I would hasten to add that a lot of Wii owners, like myself, never had a Gamecube, so RE4 is totally new to me. Sure, I coulda played the 'cube version on the Wii, but how fun would that have been without the benefit of the Wii controls? Bottom line: modicum of innovation + affordability + new audience = good deal. - muitosabao, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I think you meant a THIRD Person Shooter...
- mancat, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5I don't have a Wii, but I have to say that the aiming system was so frustrating sometimes. There were things that I wanted to do in the game that I couldn't do because the system was too slow. If the wand aiming works well, I'd play the game all through again, running and gunning the whole way.
- cesclaveria, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I understand you, first I bought it for the PC, did not finish it because then I got a Wii so I bought the GCN version... and now this... I left the game about the same part both times.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Now is everyone convinced that the Wii can do shooters right? It just takes a dedicated developer.
- xmuzik, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4I bought RE4 on the gamecube when it 1st came out and I still consider it one of my personal top 5 favorite games of all-time
- heyisa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The atmosphere for the first 1/3 or this game is unsurpassed in the history of gaming in my opinion. It truly is the best melding of cinema and gaming, but in a way that is completely in game. A masterpiece worth anyone's time.
- AwesomeMonster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yeah, and that Famitsu, i mean, that can't be a reputable magazine, i mean, theres no way it could beat the best magazine in the world, that ofcourse being gamepro!
/Sarcasm
Buddy famitsu is known as one of if not the toughest and most respectable gaming magazines in the world. - sruffelman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I am not happy about this because I just bought RE4 (Gamecube) for my Wii because I heard it was so good. Now they are actually making one for Wii. Come on.
- thiagoleon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I played the PC version, and its a very nice game, go for it. Too bad that they are charging full price in Japan, so it doesn't justify another purchase here =(
- Mejogid, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3"Always... for the most part"
Gotta love oxymorons :) - EtherGnat, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I've always been a big FPS fan on the PC. Resident Evil 4 was the first shooter I tried on a console. I loved the game but really hated the aiming scheme--it just seemed so inferior to the mouse and keyboard that I was used to. It bothered me so much I stopped playing after several hours, and never completed the game. I'm really looking forward to going back and playing it with a better (to me anyway) control system.
- cesclaveria, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I think you are thinking about Umbrella Chronicles.
- bobasaurus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Man, I pre-ordered this last week. Can't freaking wait.
- jacksons98, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1@awesomemonster I guess the point I was trying to make is that I'd rather see the really great scores saved for games that are doing something that hasn't been done before. I think Resident Evil was ground breaking for it's time on Gamecube and absolutely deserved the scores it received, but that was two and half years ago. Just like Wolfenstein or Doom were great games for their time, but would I give them a 9 or ten now because we added Wii controls to them?
- BabyWookie, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1I thought that the original was one of the most over-rated things ever. To think that I actually bought a GameCube just to play it based on all the hype! The gameplay mechanics in that game are simply archaic compared to most decent shooters. It is a step up from the classic RE formula, but not enough of a step up. What kind of an action game makes you go to an inventory screen each time to want to switch a weapon, use a medkit or throw a grenade? What kind of an action game throws hordes of zombies at you, while your character moves like a gimp and can't even chew gum and shoot at the same time, not to mention dodge? What kind of a good action game relies on the stupid, "push the right button fast or it's instant death" play mechanic? What kind of a good action game makes you escort a retarded NPC half the time? There were so many little things that I hated about RE4. I gave up playing soon after getting to the Castle. Maybe the next one will have better gameplay mechanics, something like GoW with puzzles.
- AwesomeMonster, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1yo jacksons98, Oblivion was essentially remade for the ps3 about a year after its release and it got good reviews. Whats your point?
- Wytefang, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2Anyone who knows anything at all about the gaming journalist scene knows that Famitsu is hardly a reputable 'no-holds barred' source of unbiased discernment - most Japanese gaming media focuses on hyping games not seriously reviewing them. Because of this, any so-called 'great' score they hand out is extremely suspect. While this MAY be a good game for Wii fans, we won't really know until a serious gaming review magazine or website tackles it. Until then, lay off the sauce, Wii fans.
- icealchemist, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2This wasn't famitsu, it was famitsu ds-wii. There is a difference.
- giveer, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2I graciously try and give every single Resident Evil a chance. -- But more than a decade later, they are still using the same ancient movement engine. Even Wolf 3d had a reasonable "strafe" option. If this wasn't a Resident Evil chapter and was the first of some random new game franchise, there would be resounding "great game, but what's with the controls?" reviews.
- Jyff, on 10/11/2007, -9/+4i'm glad but also slightly surprised and skeptical. the original was good, but is the wii port truly good enough to justify...a port, when i can just pop in the old gamecube disc?
