OGC - BlueSkyfish, on 04/29/2008, -6/+29The difference is Mario Kart doesn't have problems locking up.
- Pinkshisno, on 04/29/2008, -1/+22What's with all the Double Dash hate? I absolutely love that game.
- WhoDoneIt, on 04/29/2008, -0/+20Had 3 friends over last night for a Kart session with beers. All of us haven't had that much fun for some time. Feels like college days all over again.
- weaselfingers, on 04/29/2008, -0/+18You forgot to cite the current number of diggs and comments. :(
- vondrak, on 04/29/2008, -1/+15MK64 for sure.
The wii wheel is nice for its precision in steering, no jerky motions. But using the nunchuck is very reminiscent of the N64 controller. - ahawks, on 04/29/2008, -2/+16I'm planning on buying Mario Kart Wii tonight or tomorrow, hooboy!
- RetlawST, on 04/29/2008, -0/+13There were a large chunk of people who never understood blue sparks. I have a friend in graduate school and when his graduate buddies invite him over to play MarioKart, apparently they ban him from using them because nobody else can figure it out. 0_o
- yvesoft, on 04/29/2008, -2/+14I wish Sonic was available. I mean, he wouldn't even need a Kart.
- brbeaird, on 04/29/2008, -1/+13FTA: "Sadly, the two-player cooperative version of the GP has been removed"
This sucks. - fhornplayer, on 04/29/2008, -0/+10Oh fanboys. How you amuse me.
- om3ganet, on 04/30/2008, -0/+10****ing blue turtle shells!!
- ahawks, on 04/29/2008, -1/+11The "weapons" system has always been there, and is why you can get slung back to last. Boosts, blue shells, lightning bolts, etc. It's what makes the game fun and levels the playing field so you can actually get your girlfriend to play because she can win every now and then.
- hixxy, on 04/29/2008, -1/+10Punishment? Please. Have you ever played Mario Kart before? It's always been like this.
That's the fun of Mario Kart as opposed to Gran Turismo. There's still hope for you if you're in last. Not to mention it would be boring staying in 1st the entire race, the fun of MK is the fact that you are constantly changing positions and climbing your way back to the top. - partysan, on 04/29/2008, -2/+11Ten bucks isn't that expensive.
- ahawks, on 04/29/2008, -0/+7Firefox 3 says the video is hosted on sextube20008.com and blocks it.
Thanks firefox, ***** you vahetada. - allisonaxe, on 04/30/2008, -1/+8the players doing the poorest are given items that allow them to remain competitve, thus making the game more fun for the group. if you're a good player, and learn how to play the game effectively, you should still come in toward the top of the pack, regardless of the items that the other players use. should you fall to the back due to item use, those items become available to you, too. in mario kart, "the best player" isn't necessarily the fastest, its the person who can utilize items to maintain a superior position. if you want to win just by having killer lines, go play gran turismo, forza, or PGR.
- sgtpppr, on 04/30/2008, -0/+6Same complaints from the same people about core aspects of the kart series. If you don't like weapons, then go play gran turismo or something. If you seriously miss the SNES version...go play it now. I think it's not the ultimate game you remember it as.
- jamesey, on 04/29/2008, -1/+7MK64 had orange smoke, which was the same as blue sparks. That's not the reason people hate DD. The reason people hate DD was because it was too arcady, the tracks sucked, and if you went off track you went from 60 to 0. It just felt wrong.
- sgtpppr, on 04/30/2008, -1/+6IN other words, you just enjoy memorizing the track on a very slow racer and lapping the computer guy after only having the game for 3 days...sounds like you just want to prove you can win instead of actually having to work to win. It's hilarious seeing people bitch about totally opposite things. You have people bitching because it's not 1080p Gran Turismo clone and people complaining because it's not like the ultra simplistic SNES version. I have a feeling an awful lot of haters here have either not even played the game or got beat on badly online. Some of the people claiming the game is lame are the same people that bitched cause they removed snaking...which is interesting.
- thedogfatherx, on 04/29/2008, -5/+10Looks like fun
- cyrix, on 04/29/2008, -3/+8I ***** dugg it just for "I could eat a peach for hours." CASTOR TROY!!!
- Farmer77, on 04/30/2008, -1/+5No, this game would not have outsold GTA4 even if Wii was widely available.
- h0ms4r, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4or the Gamecube controller.
- inactive, on 04/29/2008, -1/+4The karts also just didn't have the same grip.
- gamergod42, on 05/01/2008, -0/+3Re: nintendo needs to get rid of those retarded friend codes, and add audio
Friend codes are annoying, but once you enter them in, you never have to do it again. And they aren't that hard to find - you can find friend codes all over the Internet on forums, sites like http://mapwii.com , and even mario kart chat rooms. Nintendo chose safety over simplicity, so even though we don't like them, it looks like friend codes are here to stay. Many kart players are using Skype http://skype.com and XFire http://xfire.com to chat while playing kart. It works fine, but it sure would be nice if it was built into the game. - kotatsu, on 04/29/2008, -10/+13Personally I think the Wii version is a total mess. The game seems to delight in repeatedly punishing you for doing well, and is able to take you from 1st place to last place within the space of a few seconds through no fault of your own.. and often on the final straight. It's a chaotic muddle and a far cry from the sublime SNES original. It also has some of the ugliest graphics on the Wii, although they do at least run at 60fps.
- EvilHeadBoy, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2it's hard to make AI human like, if they're too good, they're considered "impossible", and too bad, they become too easy. I think the only way for it to work would be an AI that learns from the ground up, copying what the player is doing.
- sngx1275, on 04/30/2008, -2/+4Nope. In SNES the items weren't weighted. Meaning the best racer won some huge percentage of the time. Ever since N64 they've weighted the items to make ***** players not suck so bad, so now, the best player isn't the person crossing the finish line first. The last place ***** gets a blue shell while someone else is chillin back in 5th place - that blue shell comes in, rapes the first 3 players, and the 5th place guy passes the 4th at the finish line for the win. Its ***** lame. SNES is where the true racers are at.
- crossmr, on 04/29/2008, -1/+3Thanks now I can sleep at night not having to lay awake wondering when you'll get it!
- fognozzle, on 04/29/2008, -1/+3Fry's is selling a second wheel for only $5 (3rd party, though... but whatever) for those of you who are interested.
- sgtpppr, on 04/30/2008, -1/+3I still play Double Dash all the time. I think people need to go back and actually play the N64 version...it did NOT hold up well over time. I loved it when it was new and it was upgraded with Double Dash. I honestly have no clue why people seem to hate DD so much. I think it's just a vocal few that worship retro style (the ones who claim the SNES version is god-like) without actually going back and playing them.
- daGUY, on 04/30/2008, -1/+3I got Mario Kart Wii on launch day and it's been awesome so far. The updated classic levels and the appearance of the Miis were both nice surprises. I only have one complaint - why did they get rid of multiplayer Grand Prix?? The only way to unlock new stuff now is to play single player...a weird decision given that its strength is in the different multiplayer modes.
- fhornplayer, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2I don't like the curve of difficulty in the enemy AI that seems to be in all recent Nintendo multiplayer games. I don't want it to seem like I have a handicap, I want it to seem like I'm playing against people who are really good. I can't play Brawl by myself because the enemies are idiots on the low levels and I'm ridiculously handicapped on the high levels. I love my Wii, I just wish Nintendo would make the AI in some of their games more humanlike.
- cesclaveria, on 04/29/2008, -2/+4ouch...
- inactive, on 04/29/2008, -1/+2That's fine by me - by the time I ever actually get around to getting an HD TV, everyone else will probably be using Holodecks or something.
- Chode2235, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1you should turn your TV off of mute. The game has plenty of sounds, and is very familiar to the older classic versions of the game.
- alexforcefive, on 04/29/2008, -1/+2You.. actually clicked the link? It could have been a rickroll!
- Lubinski, on 04/29/2008, -2/+3FCK u and ur codec.
- Elranzer, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1Until someone uses a Blue Shell...
- ahawks, on 04/29/2008, -1/+2Nintendo in general is pretending HD doesn't exist, it's not just MK. I do own a wii, and I love it, and I'm buying this game tonight, but I do wish it was HD.
- Velocity14, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1Daisy has the cruise ship.
- sgtpppr, on 04/30/2008, -1/+2He's mad because he isn't able to scream '*****' over xboxlive while playing it with his frat brothers in the nude.
- EtherGnat, on 04/30/2008, -1/+2Remove gaming from your list of topics if you don't like them and stop being such a putz.
- m00nmaster, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1Funnily enough, the day it came out (Sunday) every store around me (New Jersey, USA) had them in their advertisements. They haven't been for several weeks before that.
- Shadic, on 05/01/2008, -1/+2"Thankfully, Mario Kart Wii avoids the flaws of its immediate predecessor in Mario Kart DS, which was largely criticized for an unsightly by-product of the boost system. Players in the know were able to take advantage of slide-boosting to "snake"—infinitely boosting with a snake-like movement for the duration of a level—which greatly hindered the game and made most online multiplayer bouts an exercise in tedium. This has been eliminated from the new game."
Screw you, ars technica. :( - TheBigDI(K, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1Trash talking.. interesting..
- derfunkenstein, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Sonic R for the Saturn?
