        Advice of founding fathers? They told us not to form parties, so I guess RP loses for working within the party system? Also, the founding fathers made countless incorrect predictions about the effects various Constitutional clauses would have over the long term (the Federalist Papers are loaded with 'em). They also owned slaves and decided it was more important not to piss off the Southern colonies than to abolish it. They had some good ideas, but they were not gods. Refer to: common sense.

        All historical evidence and information? I don't even know what you are talking about here. The empirical record is pretty clear on monetary policy: fiat currencies are good if you want reasonable growth rates (for most of Western history, 1% growth was exceptional; now, 4% or so is average). Historical evidence is pretty clear on the importance of international engagement by superpowers; every period of unilateralism or diplomatic isolationism on the part of the hegemon has been followed by a major war.

        New World Order? Sheesh, crazy much? If there is a NWO, I'm fairly sure Obama isn't in it. If you're referring to one of the many idiotic Federal Reserve conspiracy theories RP supporters seem infatuated with, well, I have nothing more to say to you, except to consider those 'common sense' and 'historical evidence' standards you laid out previously.

            That's one thing I never got about the states' rights crowd. The 10th Amendment puts states' and citizens' rights equally ("The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people"). The 9th is explicitly about people and NOT about states ("The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people"). Why, then, do these 'Constitutionalists' insist that states' so-called "rights" to curtail the rights of their citizens must always trump those citizens' rights? The power to make laws to, say, ban abortion is not a matter of rights, but of authority. RP claims the states' rights line on both abortion and gay marriage. Yup, that's right, folks; RP believes that the authority of the states is more important than the liberty of women seeking abortion or gays seeking marriage. In both cases, it's not a matter of federal restrictions versus state restrictions; it's a matter of federal protections of rights being eroded on a state-by-state basis. It doesn't sound so appealing to say you're for states' authority to limit rights, though, does it?

If you need further proof of this, look into the We The People Act and try to explain to me how that is consistent with libertarianism OR the constitution. For the lazy: it's a bill he sponsored that would shield entire categories of Congressional legislation from federal court challenges. That already sounds pretty bad for the whole Constitutionalism thing - something about one branch declaring its actions above question by the branch that is supposed to check it seems a wee bit inconsistent with a commitment to checks and balances - but it gets a lot worse when you realise that its primary function would have been to shield anti-gay marriage legislation.

            Obama a socialist? I wish. In most of the rest of the world, socialist is not a dirty word; in many democracies, it is the name of the party in power. You know all those Scandinavian countries with low crime, low pollution, high standard of living, excellent schools and health care, etc.? Yeah, run by socialists. Obama would be considered centre-right in virtually any country but the US. He's not even for mandated universal health care, which is a given in most countries' political landscapes. In France, Le Pen is routinely denounced as the insane far-right monster that he is for making immigration proposals that would hardly be shocking from an American conservative.

You can elect a young and idealized politician to lead the old and cynical, but you can't make them listen to him.

      Second- Political "experience" doesn't mean all that much- that's why there are entire cabinets of people there to advise them. Our political situation has been broken for a long time.. is it REALLY that bad of a thing that Obama doesn't have a lot of "experience" in that broken system? Heaven forbid something NEW happens, instead of relying on what's been done (poorly) already. You here this experience BS thrown around a lot and it's just plain dumb. People are clamoring the system is broke, that we need to do something different in regards to how we interact internally and to the rest of the world.. imo not having 'experience' in the corrupt world of US politics isn't a harmful thing.
      (oh, and the obamaclone/obamasheep comments just makes me laugh more and more every day it's used, you can tell folks are really starting to feel threatened. People are being criticized for rallying behind someone they believe in and being patriotic?!? Well we wouldn't want that would we, that would be almost American, and we don't THAT in this country. Must be more of that experience we've been hearing about.
