The empirical record is pretty clear on monetary policy: fiat currencies are good if you want reasonable growth rates (for most of Western history, 1% growth was exceptional; now, 4% or so is average). Historical evidence is pretty clear on the importance of international engagement by superpowers; every period of unilateralism or diplomatic isolationism on the part of the hegemon has been followed by a major war.

What kind of self-proclaimed Constitutionalist Libertarian supports the *authority* of the states over the *rights* of the people?
That's one thing I never got about the states' rights crowd. The 10th Amendment puts states' and citizens' rights equally ("The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people"). The 9th is explicitly about people and NOT about states ("The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people"). Why, then, do these 'Constitutionalists' insist that states' so-called "rights" to curtail the rights of their citizens must always trump those citizens' rights? The power to make laws to, say, ban abortion is not a matter of rights, but of authority. RP claims the states' rights line on both abortion and gay marriage. Yup, that's right, folks; RP believes that the authority of the states is more important than the liberty of women seeking abortion or gays seeking marriage. In both cases, it's not a matter of federal restrictions versus state restrictions; it's a matter of federal protections of rights being eroded on a state-by-state basis. It doesn't sound so appealing to say you're for states' authority to limit rights, though, does it?

Second- Political "experience" doesn't mean all that much- that's why there are entire cabinets of people there to advise them. Our political situation has been broken for a long time.. is it REALLY that bad of a thing that Obama doesn't have a lot of "experience" in that broken system?
