- Blinker1315, on 11/02/2009, -1/+46Brings back memories for me, too. My oldest son learned to read playing Zelda, and he and his younger brother both dressed as Link for Halloween about 10 years ago. They were really disappointed, however, when the people in our nearby park in Manhattan all thought they were Robin Hood.
- dobbinmon, on 11/03/2009, -5/+44SPOILER ALERT!!!
----------------------------
Storyline: find sword, find boomerang, find bombs, find bow and arrow, find claw, find zelda... end - ButchersBoy, on 11/03/2009, -0/+39It aint broke and I dont want it fixed.
- VodkaHero, on 11/03/2009, -0/+19As much as I loved Phantom Hourglass, the DS needs a remake of the best portable Zelda ever: Link's Awakening.
- thebrowndigger, on 11/02/2009, -4/+19"but I have a feeling some very familiar themes will be popping up here and there"
No way!? You mean we'll probably be saving Zelda? *GASP*
"but if they're this good."
What? What is this based off of, childhood memories? I expected an account of playing the game, not a bunch of paragraphs saying it'll be awesome since little Ben (the author) liked trains.
I want to play the game too, but I expect more information from arstechnica. - FormerBabby, on 11/03/2009, -0/+12ROSEBUD!!!
- BrownieMix, on 11/03/2009, -1/+10They should remake Seasons and Ages on the DS.
- incubusbeatsall, on 11/03/2009, -1/+10Although I disagree and think Link's Awakening was better, I don't think they should remake either. I think their first priority should be making a Zelda game with the d-pad instead of forcibly putting in motion controls.
- perryc, on 11/02/2009, -1/+9sweeeeeeeet
- Nishnabotna, on 11/03/2009, -0/+7The timer got too annoying and I put it down. Too bad, cause I was enjoying the hell out of it till then.
- Bloodfin182, on 11/03/2009, -2/+8I enjoyed Phantom Hourglass quite a bit (yep control scheme and all), so I'm looking forward to this one.
- TheNik, on 11/03/2009, -0/+6He said that this happened ten years ago. Even then, I think ballads written in Old English and incredibly dense novels like Ivanhoe would be a bit too much for a young child to consume.
- Shitokki, on 11/02/2009, -1/+7wtf are you thanking him for? He didn't ***** make it.
damn brown-nosers - PattycakesHaze, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5As much as I respect taking Zelda to new, creative places...the Phantom Hourglass was only fun for one play through. The controls were innovative, yes, but it got to be very tedious to me, especially towards the end. My excitement at a clone game just cannot get to be very high (because lets be honest, the train system can't possibly be much different than the boat paths).
SO, to sum it up, I respected and somewhat enjoyed the first Zelda DS for being original and innovative, but that was the only pull for me. A separate little annoyance of mine is that I don't think trains belong in the Zelda world.
...as amazing as trains far. I did love Thomas the Tank Engine more than anything in the world when I was 5. - ancalagon73, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5That wasn't ruined. You were never told you that you will also have to defeat Gannon. Now THAT would be ruining it.
- DennisOhlson, on 11/03/2009, -1/+5They already did do a link to the past on gba.
http://www.gamespot.com/gba/rpg/legendofzeldaalink ... That game is good, but it feels a little classic for me.
Links awakening is my favorite and first zelda, that game has i think. 60 music tracks. And all the music is so wonderful. - rand21althor, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4IT'S A SECRET TO EVERYBODY.
- atchon, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4Just had to go and ruin it....
- L0NER, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4Growing up?
In my day Link was 2D and he couldn't jump on no trains. - Shawn4168, on 11/03/2009, -3/+7Phantom Hourglass is the only Zelda game to date that I did not genuinely enjoy...in fact, I had to force myself to finish it. To hear that Spirit Tracks is going to be so similar is disappointing...but as long as they don't bring back anything like that Temple of the Ocean King (stealth-based dungeon that you have to run multiple times, and on a timer), I'll give it a shot.
- evilresident, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4what incubus said.
Yes, all zelda games rock. and phantom hourglass did too.
but *****, give me my dpad back. I don't want to play with the stylus. I mean I will if I have to, but given the option, I'd rather not. - IClavdivs, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4It was the big labyrinth that you had to keep re-playing through that nearly ruined the game for me. Everything else was great fun.
- BigLou, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3Sounds like they are trying a lot of new things with this franchise. But that's okay because it gave us Windwaker and Phantom Hourglass; both excellent games.
- Halsfield, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3Take OOT's color palette, character/level designs, control scheme, voices/sounds, etc and tell a new story with them. Everytime they make a new game they try to reinvent the wheel when they already had the best template for zelda games. Stop using silly gimmicks like choo-choo trains, minish caps, and twilight princess's "grim darkness" and get back to the basics that everyone loves in zelda.
Sonic has gone so far downhill because they can't simply give us another sonic 2/3 and want to turn sonic into a werewolf, give him 100 new characters that no one cares about, and turn the game from a speed run to a fighting game/rpg/3-d platformer. Don't ruin zelda in the same way. - DennisOhlson, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3Dugg, and LA
- tehrich, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2Link's Awakening is my favorite of all the Zelda games.
- rpgmakr, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2At least robin hood gave its loot to the poor instead of stealing from them.
- tehrich, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1You can shoot the sword beams with any sword in the original Legend of Zelda. Also it wasn't the Master Sword yet, just a plain old Magical Sword.
- jerrolds, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1Rocket Robin Hood maybe...
- dobbinmon, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Really - are you serious? Zelda games are as formulaic as they get - not that it's a bad thing
- TheNik, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1You said Robin Hood. The Robin Hood character isn't from a specific book, he's the subject of Old English ballads.
- IClavdivs, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1What's formulaic about the island you've been playing on is actually the dream of a windfish and to end the game you have to wake him up.? Stop me if you've heard this one, a moon is crashing into the earth and you only have three days to save the world, but if you play your ocarina you can rewind time. Let's not forget about this old chestnut, a race of tiny people are the only hope for a hero to save the woman he loves.
Sure we have common themes in most games like the imperiled princess, the triforce, and the evil wizard, but that's not the same as a formulaic plot. - Halsfield, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Forgot step: Find your light arrow in ganon's belly
- marktastic, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1Are you saying dobbinmon is incorrect? You have to stop being so anal. I love me some Zelda as much as the next guy, but come on! That was hilarious.
Also, I've never played through any Halo game but reading the storyline makes me want to. - mwtbdltr, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1haha ocerina of time reminds me of getting soooo stoned and trying to complete it in one day... its achieveable.... ahhhh good ol N64!
- Skyplatoon, on 11/03/2009, -2/+2i really dont think there is anything "crazy" to recent Zelda plots to be honest.....sorry bro. Try Baldur's gate 2 or demons souls for a real RPG.
- Atario, on 11/04/2009, -1/+1"He said that this happened ten years ago."
What part of what I wrote contradicts that?
"I think ballads written in Old English and incredibly dense novels like Ivanhoe would be a bit too much for a young child to consume."
Where did I specify Old English or dense novels? - DennisOhlson, on 11/03/2009, -3/+3I tried phantom hourglass, and was disspointed. No good music, game was to easy. I will not be trying this game. Link on a train is not a good idea. I also tried minish cap And did not like it. And tp as well. They feel like gimmicks then real zeldas.
I did like windwaker, alttp, and all games prior to that one. - Slust, on 11/03/2009, -2/+1Looks like a death knell to me... =*(
And Zelda was the first series I ever got hooked into. I still remember opening that present Christmas morning and unwrapping this shiny, gold cartridge... The feeling and the amazement just looking at the cartridge was surpassed beyond belief when I actually put it into my NES and played it for just 15 minutes. Running around Hyrule, fighting octoroks and collecting rupees. Buying shields so I could deflect the Zora's fireballs. Finding the Master Sword that let me shoot beams when I was at full health. Bombing, pushing and burning damn near everything just to find every hidden location...
And then we arrive here, eh? Conducting locomotives? - DJPlayer, on 11/03/2009, -3/+1pfft.. the real original legend of Zelda..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jElFHhfIrY - IClavdivs, on 11/03/2009, -6/+4STFU. You've clearly not played a Zelda game since the first one. Some of the craziest plots in gaming can be found in Zelda games. gb2Halo.
- UV0001, on 11/03/2009, -7/+4Stylus only controls = no buy
Same reason why I didn't bother with Phantom Hourglass. Tried the demo in the stores and didn't like the controls.
Assuming ST is the same way. - vpshockwave, on 11/03/2009, -6/+2The hell with that. Link's Awakening was great, but if they remake any Zelda it should be Link to the Past.
- poiuytreza789, on 11/03/2009, -8/+1 done le roms de si jeux
et merci - Atario, on 11/03/2009, -14/+6Well, speaking of reading, perhaps you could have used the opportunity to get him interested in who this "Robin Hood" character was...?
