Time traveler spotted. - Shrubber, on 02/18/2008, -0/+82Wow, that's an old picture of the Wiimote. That's one of the old Wiimote designs; I believe they showed that version at E3 '05.
- inactive, on 02/18/2008, -1/+68I think you mean "Retard-proof" TV
- Heaiser, on 02/18/2008, -3/+53I can see you tried really hard to make that joke work. But unfortunately you failed miserably.
- yohnstoppable, on 02/18/2008, -3/+52Anyone who actually throws a wiimote through their tv deserves to have it ruined. You have to be either really drunk and going overboard, or just plain stupid to let go of it with enough force to break the strap and wreck your tv. Besides, there are stronger straps as well as free grips you can get to prevent it from happening even if you just washed your hands with astroglide
- SIRBERUS, on 02/19/2008, -0/+22Just to put in my 2cents... only a week ago I was at a friend's house and he has a beautiful samsung flatscreen (christmas gift/money saved up).
Anyways, long story short... his girlfriend made some joke and he chucked a water bottle at her... she caught it and laughed and chucked it back.
Girls being what they are, she winged it and it smacked right into the new tv.
We all had a moment of silence and held our breath in prayer hoping there was no damage.
Luckily for her, it was ok.
Personally, I know I have thrown a dog toy or two in my house and smacked my tv.
Moral of the story:
It's not a bad idea to have a tough-screen on a very expensive peice of hardware. - Subriot, on 02/19/2008, -1/+23WiiLL you ever shut up?
- gormlens, on 02/18/2008, -1/+23That person isn't wearing their safety strap
- D3koy, on 02/19/2008, -0/+19What about the monitor that can survive a crossbow bolt, surely that can withstand a Wiimote...use that technology...
- Bologner, on 02/18/2008, -2/+21I heard that YOU, sir, like mudkip.
- MatchStick, on 02/18/2008, -2/+21no the problem is linked to retards that can't seem to figure out how to operate a wrist strap.

"In 2003, the US-based owner of a 42in Plasma TV suffered a nasty shock when his three-year-old son smashed up his TV’s display with a Wii Remote, because he didn’t win a game of Wii Sports Tennis."
haha, oh wow. 2003. - theaceoffire, on 02/18/2008, -0/+11I know, I saw a controller go through an LCD panel... that isn't exactly flimsy to begin with.
- kentifer, on 02/19/2008, -3/+14Are you kidding? I LOOOOOOOOOVE MUDKIPS!
- dafragsta, on 02/19/2008, -1/+11Either that or a ***** story conjured up in the marketing department.
- LukeBeaumont, on 02/19/2008, -0/+10According to my calculations, if the TV can withstand four joules, the wiimote has to be travelling 2.96m/s or slower.
- TomFrost, on 02/19/2008, -1/+10Or they're listening to consumers who are sick of dealing with sharp reflections. Most people actually count the lack of a glass screen as a *benefit* to buying an LCD, because they diffuse external light so well.
- kentifer, on 02/19/2008, -0/+7link: http://youtube.com/watch?v=AAdku9YhSCI
- friend18, on 02/18/2008, -4/+10I've always been annoyed at most LCD's not having glass screens. I think the companies are cheaping out.
- inactive, on 02/19/2008, -2/+7Massive FAIL
- inactive, on 02/19/2008, -1/+6They're called trolls. You're supposed to not feed them.
- BlueSkyfish, on 02/19/2008, -0/+5They give away this wii cover thing for free that looks like a condom for your wiimote. It's supposed to soften the impact or something, but I never bothered with it.
http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/jacket/jacketrequ ... - Rikkochet, on 02/19/2008, -0/+5FTA: "For those without a physics background, a Joule is the energy expended by the force of one Newton moving one metre."
Yes. That will help people without a physics background. - CaviMike, on 02/19/2008, -2/+7In lamens terms, your Panasonic TV is still going to break.
- stretch611, on 02/19/2008, -0/+4Dugg for the marketing gimmick...
- inactive, on 02/19/2008, -1/+5Because idiots who get too excited playing wii sports and throw their wiimote at their TV deserve a broken TV. It's like natural selection for one's ability to play games.
- slightlygifted, on 02/19/2008, -0/+4solution=projector.
- TomFrost, on 02/19/2008, -0/+4...or their hand. No, you're *not* supposed to release the Wiimote.
- Pseudo98, on 02/19/2008, -1/+5"In 2003, the US-based owner of a 42in Plasma TV suffered a nasty shock when his three-year-old son smashed up his TV’s display with a Wii Remote, because he didn’t win a game of Wii Sports Tennis"
In other news, child travels back in time with Wiimote and smashes up father's TV before he plays frustrating game on it, paradox ensures, end of universe expected. - TridenTBoy, on 02/19/2008, -0/+4Prototype for sure!
- gcnaddict, on 02/19/2008, -0/+4"there are stronger straps as well as free grips you can get"
addendum: the straps are free too.
Wiimote jacket: http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/jacket/jacketrequ ...
Wiimote straps (pre-2007): http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/strapreplace.jsp (new straps were default in 2007 models) - ricksite, on 02/19/2008, -0/+3You should give it a try. It makes the Wiimote more comfortable to hold.
- jkoski, on 02/19/2008, -1/+4Wash our hands with Astroglide a lot do we?
- GreyICE, on 02/19/2008, -0/+3Doesn't matter, because the Kinetic Energy of the impact is proportional to the velocity squared. So 4 J is like... nothing.
- PleaseJustDie, on 02/19/2008, -0/+3they should focus on HOW the kid got a wii in 2003 and use his time traveling skills for evil!
- Dracusis, on 02/19/2008, -0/+3Because you're the only ones that get beaten enough at Tekken to throw your six-axis at the screen. Just face it dude, you suck, stop playing it already.
- AdmiralAcbar, on 02/19/2008, -0/+34 joules is nowhere near enough to stop a wiimote. It'd have to be going less than 6 km/h to not break the tv.
- juicebag, on 02/19/2008, -1/+4It won't break if you become less of a retard.
- thestorey, on 02/19/2008, -4/+7*points* NERD /hug

I've come close to doing said event many a times during COD4 ...
- missingnoh4x, on 02/19/2008, -0/+2Are you alright?
- BenKenobi88, on 02/19/2008, -0/+2They come with all new controllers standard.
It's not bad. It looks silly, but it is easier to grip, also more comfortable when holding the Wiimote sideways. I took them off though when I changed the batteries...haven't bothered to put them back on...it's nothing special. - grumbel, on 02/19/2008, -0/+2I think Bowling is one of the most problematic games, because it forces you to let go the buttons while your swing is the fasted, so you have to reduce your grip at the worst point.
- nitrojunky24, on 02/19/2008, -0/+2Is it really that hard to hold onto a controller really? I played wii on our 53 in plasma with no trouble whatsoever and didn't even use the stupid strap.
- inactive, on 02/19/2008, -2/+4Is there anything you DO like? Your sole purpose on Digg seems to be trashing everything. Get some new material.
http://www.neaveru.com/digg/stats/feelthepain/max_ ... - nastajus, on 02/19/2008, -0/+2i didn't know there was a difference
- blofeld9999, on 02/19/2008, -0/+2Why digg this comment down? We know that the amount of kinetic energy a relatively large object has is approximately 0.5 * m * v^2. Suppose a Wiimote weighs a quarter lb and is flung at 10 m / s (only 22 mph), the amount of kinetic energy that must be dissipated by the TV is 0.5 * 0.25 * (10 ^ 2) = 12.5 joules. (Of course a more accurate measure would be how much pressure the TV can take - I have no doubt most any TV can handle a large person leaning on it which would probably be more than 4J energy. But a much smaller object over a smaller surface area would be harder to deal with).
- Tripper44, on 02/19/2008, -0/+2yep i thought it meant something like a tv that wouldnt let you use a wii :P
