- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+216I think he would be more pissed the main character was Jack Thompson.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -9/+168Rofl he sure is, he sure is...
- tektalk, on 10/11/2007, -28/+144I cross referenced it with the box art images and did a background check on the box label.
The box appears to be photoshopped... - vertinox, on 10/11/2007, -4/+106Actually, it looks like a clerk at EB Games printed that label out to put on the box. They do that sometimes with release dates.
Still funny tho. - KlayBorg, on 10/11/2007, -8/+101Yes, the rest of the world has opinions too *gasp*...
- Adamacus, on 10/11/2007, -4/+78It's HMV, a British and Irish based game store.

"I had never heard of him before digg."
Is this your first time on the internet or something? It's more than just Digg users that are frustrated with Thompson. - skywake, on 10/11/2007, -1/+53I am sorry.... but if it isn't clear enough already for you then you are part of the problem. It couldn't be any clearer what the nature of the content is unless you want the ESRB, OFLC (or whatever it is where you live) to run advertisements telling people what 18+ means. Regardless parents just need to read the labels.... if the rating is wrong then fine, but a lot of these game JT is bitching about have an 18+/17+ rating already. WHAT MORE DOES HE WANT?
- chingy1788, on 10/11/2007, -6/+54I had a dream...
actually it was more of a night mare
Jack Thompson won against video games and Starcraft was outlawed along with other games
and I was trying to keep under wraps that I played Starcraft - DeadManWalking, on 10/11/2007, -10/+53It means you're gay.
- STKD, on 10/11/2007, -7/+49At least he realised there *are* countries other than the US*. That's a step forward.
*and those ones they aren't "liberating". Ahem. - darthsuo, on 10/11/2007, -4/+45It should be ILLEGAL to sell to an underaged kid? Since when was it the government's job to raise children? Not only that, but any method of rating a game you can think of would be highly subjective and not at all useful. ZOMG he said ***** more than two times, M RATED!! ZOMG the game can be used to create sexual situations, M RATED!!! Maybe the parents should, you know, see the game for themselves and judge whether they want their children to play it.
- chuckstep, on 10/11/2007, -4/+42Apparently someone is forgetting all of Hillary Clinton's work to take down video games.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 10/11/2007, -0/+36I don't think any wise man has said pwned...ever...
- sargant, on 10/11/2007, -1/+35That's not the box art. That's the sticker Virgin Megastores stick over the front of game cases when they're selling preorders. I've seen exactly the same thing (but with more... conventional phrasing) in my local store.
- Beaver6813, on 10/11/2007, -1/+34Well.. duh...
- Lokix, on 10/11/2007, -7/+40ZERG RUSH!!!

"Why does Digg continue to give this douche publicity. I had never heard of him prior to digg. Who gives a ***** what this old man thinks."
Because, until recently, he's had the ear and support of various senators, congressmen, religious groups and conservative lobbyists. That's pretty scary because he's been feeding these people "facts" that are about as accurate as a meteorologist calling for snow in Summer.
In my opinion, the more the Digg community (and anyone else) can do to expose this ass hat's delusional rhetoric, the better. - contradictator, on 10/11/2007, -15/+44We have HMV in Canada too, surprised to hear it extends into your countries too tho, thought it was a canadian franchise.
- elnerdo, on 10/11/2007, -8/+37kekekekekekeke?
- nyrol2, on 10/11/2007, -1/+28It isn't illegal for them to sell and M rated game to a 4 year old. It is just store policy not to. If that 4 year old had his/her parent, or a lawyer, he/she could get the M rated game.
- hmunkey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+28haha nice
rockstar needs to do this - rabidsnail, on 10/11/2007, -10/+34 He's being ridiculed in Britain too?
- n1pz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+25That looks real to me, notice the UK certification badge with TBC written across it, a pretty good indication that it's cover made up for pre-orders.
That also explains GTA IV next to it.
Edit: Oh and it's HMV, check the image title. - blahtastic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19A four year old can get into an R rated movie with their parent too. Parents don't bring them though. Despite the fact that the box clearly says the rating, what that rating represents, and what constituted that rating, parents choose to ignore that (and ignore it when they have to get their ID checked, and ignore it when you mention to them what that game contains) to make their little kid happy. It's really not the industries fault that they choose to ignore the ratings. It's not a car manufacturers fault if you ignore that blinky light and don't put your seatbelt on is it? They gave you fair warning...
- DaltonS, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19Idiocy related to video games comes from both sides of the political spectrum. Regardless of political affiliation, the man is a moron.
- SAOSiN, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18...Naw...that didn't work. Sorry. Please try again.
- darklord5907, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18it's narc and you STILL used it wrong.
- tizz66, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17I'm sick of the myth that the laws in America are the same as the rest of the world. This was taken in a UK store, and so UK laws apply. Yes, it is illegal to buy it if you're under 18.
- alphaex, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17Just to confirm,
This picture is real, not a photoshop or anything. I can confirm this because i'm the one who actually took and uploaded the photo at it's original source, http://forum.gamesradar.com/viewtopic.php?t=104531
I saw the pre-order box in HMV London Trocadero yesterday (sat 19th)
The sticker is stuck on top of the display box usually to show the release date of the title, obviously, someone working at HMV has customised the release date message.
The rest of the pre order display boxes also had custom messages stuck on them, can't remember them but it wasn't just the manhunt box. - fredxor, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18I thought the GTA IV case was a preorder case or something. Whether it's a photoshop or not, it's still amusing.
- fluxion, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17much appreciated.
whoever felt the need to digg you down for politely responding with good information can lick my balls. - Ramble, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Clinton is i?
I didn't know she was that complex.
*boom tish* - gotforce, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15so saying a guy who blames most school masacres on video games, is jumping to conclusions and "just being a sheep", I dont hate the guy, but jsut because he comes up with alternative views on video games doesn't make the man correct, he plays on the lack of knowledge of the non-gaming population, and exploits it to taylor it to his own stories... we've seen him lose numerous cases.
P.S. have you ever actually seen a sheep *jump* onto a bandwagon? :P - TheLD, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16That depends where you are really. Maybe that is true in the USA (Which is the only country in the world)
This image is of a video game in the UK, where is is against the law to sell games and movies rated 12, 15 or 18 by the BBFC to minors. I'm not 100% sure about PEGI ratings but I think they are compulsory as well. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -8/+22@ryansmith
If you don't frequent gaming websites or gaming forums you won't know who Jack Thompson is.. I know I know, it's hard to believe (especially to some people who spend the majority of their free time on the net participating in forums and chat) but it's true. - WoollyMittens, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15Saying it looks shopped to you is just as meaningless as saying it looks real.
- D3koy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16I'm sorry you never had an AO birthday.....
Maybe that's why your so angry... - joeydoo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15Rockstar is a Scottish company..... he dicks us around as much as you Americans.
In fact we make ***** loads of games in the UK.... you probably buy them. - FireTime, on 10/11/2007, -4/+17He's a layer who is often ridiculed by the gaming community for attempting to kill games that contain any violence or adult themes.

It's actually the other way around:
"The name HMV is still used by the chain of entertainment shops founded by Gramophone Company in the UK, which continued to expand internationally through the 1990s."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMV - ZephyrNinety, on 10/11/2007, -5/+17As many wise men have said in the past..."pwned"
- cactusmcdougal, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12People die when they're killed.
[/obvious] - STKD, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Actually it works... Manhunt 2 is coming for the Wii after all.
- Arainach, on 10/11/2007, -13/+23In case you hadn't noticed, it's already illegal for retailers to sell games to people below the age ratings. Sort of like R movies.
- bloodlag, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12That's probably because it is a sticker on the box - Virgin Megastore in the UK have these stickers on their preorder items, hence the GTA IV box next to it.
- telair, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Mirror. Just in case.
http://imagespar.com/view.php?img=206dbcedf43dc99772797ce750159963 - TrueVox, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Am I the only one who noticed this is filed under Nintendo Wii? Man, Shiggy's really relaxing his standards.... :)
- NGliam, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Still.. Manhunt 2 is a reality :) Anyone who actually played the first game should realise how unbelievably awesome that is. Theres a nice preview in this months issue of OPS2, as well as a GTA4 preview I haven't been bothered to read yet :-)
- Myonosken, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Burnout anyone?
