- hack58, on 12/18/2007, -3/+36They certainly do NOT have to do it.
- DreKor, on 12/18/2007, -4/+34Bundles don't magically increase supply. They DO make those units stay on the shelves longer, thus creating the illusion of supply. They also force the sale of games and peripherals that the retailer would not be able to sell due to the lack of market saturation.
- avidlinuxuser, on 12/18/2007, -4/+33Yes, let's rebel against Nintendo for saying consumers should choose what they want when they buy a Wii.
- enforcerpsu, on 12/18/2007, -2/+31Nice to see Nintendo coming forward and speaking out against "bundles". Bundles hurt sales. They force consumer away from the product. No one needs all the crap that gamestop/walmart/etc packaged with the Wii.
- RizenBB, on 12/18/2007, -2/+31I got mine today at Target for 249.99. They asked if I wanted any games, I said no. They asked if I wanted a warranty, I said no. They said ok, I paid and left. They weren't pushy.
Target > Walmart - mywhitenoise, on 12/18/2007, -4/+32Telling them they're displeased about bundles, isn't exactly a 'warning'.
- brbeaird, on 12/18/2007, -5/+30Salespeople did this all the time when I worked at RadioShack. They'd take cell phones and throw them up on a display with a charger and headset, add up the full price of all of them, and call it a 'special bundle'. Very deceptive.
- djSyndrome, on 12/18/2007, -6/+28And yet with their new exclusive 'Rain Check' program, they're firmly in bed with GameStop - which *only* sells the Wii in bundles online.
- dylan420, on 12/18/2007, -8/+28Nintendo APPROVED bundles.
- djSyndrome, on 12/18/2007, -6/+24There is no such thing as a 'Nintendo Approved Bundle'. Nintendo only sells the Wii one way - with Wii Sports.
- BayouBengal, on 12/18/2007, -0/+16A friend of mine really wants to buy one for her two sons but these $600 bundles are just too much.
- chugger1992, on 12/18/2007, -1/+17at least they're using their power for good (don't I sound like a Zelda game?). I hate those bundle packs.
- rosullivan, on 12/18/2007, -0/+15I'm 30, have had a Wii for more than a year now, and not only do I enjoy it, so does my family...
- cusoman, on 12/18/2007, -2/+16Donkey Kong?
- llamapalooza87, on 12/18/2007, -0/+14Yeah, you've got it backwards. These retailers almost always make "bundles" that are essentially forcing you to pay full price for everything and not get to choose which games or accessories you want, without saving any money (or only a nominal amount). Nintendo's standing up for the consumer here. They're not going to get any more money or sales this way; if anything, they actually make more off of bundles since people have to spend more, often on Nintendo accessories.
- GMorgan, on 12/18/2007, -0/+13Everyone I talk to (very few 8 year olds among them) thinks the Wii is fantastic. Get drunk with your mates, come home, go berserk on the Wii. Great fun.
- pilot3033, on 12/18/2007, -2/+15Usually come with chargers already, no?
- dagamer34, on 12/18/2007, -0/+13It's not saving a few bucks if you're "forced" to buy ***** games just to get the system.
- YojimboJango, on 12/18/2007, -0/+12Link is broken but I found what you were talking about.

Nintendo Wii Bundle: Console and 10 Games
Price: $699.89
This Bundle includes: Wii Console, Spider-Man: Friend or Foe, Transformers: The Game, Bee Movie Game, Crash of the Titans 07, Dewey's Adventure, Zak & Wiki: Quest for Barbaro's Treasure, Raving Rabbids 2, Geometry Wars: Galaxies, Petz Dogz 2, and Soulcaliber Legends
Where's Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Zelda:Twilight Princess, Resident Evil 4 and the rest of the triple A titles. Almost all the titles on that list are games that are mediocre, or over looked. It's not a good bundle. It's a money grab. - legendxx, on 12/18/2007, -3/+15the only people who don't like wiis are those without friends
- inactive, on 12/18/2007, -2/+13Uh, Wii's could be pouring out of peoples rectums and they would still be trying to push bundles. See every other bundled package thats ever existed prior.
- OrangeTide, on 12/18/2007, -0/+10Do you own a game store or something? wtf. Why would anyone like being forced to buy things?
- kittywhompus, on 12/18/2007, -2/+12I work at a small independent game store and from retail experience right now, I blame distributers, the middle man between the shops and Nintendo/Sony/whatever publisher you want and the distributers are what make us have to buy at least 2 crap games with each Wii we want, thus we have to sell crap game bundles and you're right, no consumers wants that.
I hate it, allow stores to buy directly from publishers in small quantity and we'd see no more horrible bundles EVER! - BuckleButt, on 12/18/2007, -4/+14Or convenient. You need a charger after all.
- Elranzer, on 12/19/2007, -2/+11Wii is for adults. Xbox 360 is for children who want to feel "mature". Need proof? All you ever hear on Xbox Live are the screaming vocals of 11 - 13 year olds.
- javafox, on 12/18/2007, -1/+10I think the big point to be made about these bundles is the RIDICULOUSNESS of the bundles.
We're not talking 2 or 3 games here, folks. The majority of Wiis that happen to have stock online, are only selling in bundles of 6, 7, even 10 games. These bundles are selling upwards of 500 to 700 dollars. (Exhibit A: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId ... )
That, my friends, is ridiculous. It's awesome that Nintendo even bothered to comment about it.
And of course [insert obligatory statement of beefing up the production to meet demand] - pradador, on 12/18/2007, -0/+9http://www.theonion.com/content/news/even_ceo_cant ...
- Shaflugi, on 12/19/2007, -2/+10Nintendo HAS ramped up production, but it's still not enough.
- Lunatik, on 12/18/2007, -0/+8I got my Wii at Zellers (Canada) at launch date. They forced me to buy 2 games with it since it was their pre-order condition. I wanted to make sure I would have my Wii at launch date so I took the deal.
When I finally got my Wii and paid for it, I noticed an interesting thing. Since the bundle was not "Nintendo official", there were 3 separate items on the invoice. I got out of the store, put my Wii in the car, got back at the customer service with the 2 games and had a refund for them...
VoilĂ ! - BayouBengal, on 12/18/2007, -0/+7Usually only a wall charger. If it were a car charger I could see the use in 'bundling' it.
- OrangeTide, on 12/18/2007, -1/+8I've seen bundles that wanted you to buy 5 games with it. That's way too many games at once. I like to finish one game before I start another one.
- sevenalive, on 12/18/2007, -3/+10Who still shops at radio shack? Overpriced items you can find anywhere else for 20 bucks less. How are they still in business?
- inactive, on 12/18/2007, -2/+9Eh, wasn't it a year ago that the masses said the Wii is a fad? Now people are complaining about Nintendo having to keep up with demand? People should feel lucky that they don't raise the price, and make you pay nexgen prices for a current gen console.
With profits off software AND hardware, Nintendo must loving it. MS and Sony must be hating it. - smacksaw, on 12/18/2007, -0/+7Yeah I used to co-own 2 video game stores and we had the same problem. We actually found it was easier to buy consoles at retail as resellers.
What's interesting is you see it in practise at places like Costco. When something is hot they often have it as a bundle because resellers can't circumvent buying the games they want to dump on you.
No idea why you got Dugg down there, but it's more than just the distributors, it's even buying direct (at least it was back in the 90's when I had my stores). - Elranzer, on 12/19/2007, -1/+7That's just something the Sony fanboys kept telling themselves. They believed the PS3 would be the most popular, regardless of price, simply because of the PlayStation brand. They are obviously too young to remember that was Nintendo's mistake with the N64.
- pktgumby, on 12/18/2007, -1/+7Did you feel a little breeze on your head as that one went over?
- Takfam, on 12/18/2007, -2/+8Why can't everything be this simple? Stupid Nintendo, all they need to do is make more consoles! Hey, I bet they could end world hunger if they made more food too! Silly, silly, Nintendo, what are they thinking?
- artemus, on 12/19/2007, -0/+6They did. By over 200%. But they still aren't able to make enough, because demand keeps soaring. What do you expect they would do? Produce them out of thin air?
- JuanBSU, on 12/18/2007, -0/+6I thought that the purpose of the bundle was to MAKE the person buy the crappy games (that they may not have bought in the first place) that go with it.
- inactive, on 12/18/2007, -0/+6If it came with things people wanted, they wouldn't have to continue to purchase goods. ;p
- pktgumby, on 12/18/2007, -3/+9Shouldn't let your wife play with foreign wiis...
- Takfam, on 12/19/2007, -2/+8What part of "full capacity" don't you understand?
- dmadzak, on 12/19/2007, -0/+5I doubt it was their loss. I bet if you went back to the store a few hours later it was gone.
- inactive, on 12/18/2007, -0/+5Seriously. I went in there looking for a cable splitter and the cheapest one was $12, most were $15-20. So I went to Wal-Mart and got one for $1.99
- tman84, on 12/18/2007, -3/+7Bundle packs are terrible. Isn't the Wii supposed to be $250 retail? I honestly don't even know, I've searched everywhere on the web and all I see are bundles for $500 or more. I love the free market and all, but this just shows how many stupid people are out there who pay for this.
- JonestownTea, on 12/18/2007, -3/+7You more than likely got someone who just didn't care. Last time I was at Target they pushed the Warranty until I walked away.
But Target >> Walmart. - Elranzer, on 12/19/2007, -0/+4That's the only way they can sell those games. The odd one out is Zak & Wiki, though it is a good game it still isn't selling.
- ExcitedMoose, on 12/18/2007, -0/+4The reason they wait until Sunday to sell them is because store ads run Sunday to Saturday. The weeks they receive Wii shipments, they are printed in the Sunday flier for the following week. If they were to sell all of the Wii's on Saturday night, you would probably piss and moan about them not having any on Sunday when the ADVERTISED sale of Wii's begins. Stop and use some logic before you start ranting all over the digg comments.
- jaytea90, on 12/18/2007, -0/+3I hate them as well, i coulda gotten a wii, metroid, the sports pack for $30 cheaper than what i paid for the wii itself 2 weeks after i bought it.
(if you do your research and spend your money wisely the bundles are actually good sometimes) - sanman, on 12/18/2007, -3/+6I love the Wii, and I'll never go back to being a thumb jockey
Physical motion is definitely the future.
It's not holodeck, but it's definitely a step forward. -
