- themadhatter444, on 10/07/2008, -1/+56This is one of the worst lists I've seen in awhile.
- mikbunn, on 10/06/2008, -5/+59Nintendo's 5 Events That Happened and Are On a List
5. Zelda: Twilight Princess on Gamecube
4. Sonic games
3. Rare dissolved
2. Blood in MKII
1. Lots of people buy Wiis - SnesR0X, on 10/07/2008, -0/+29The Zelda one is a bit lame, seeing as there were 2 Zelda's on the N64 as well
- Bbanda, on 10/06/2008, -1/+27Virtual Boy.
- Step1Mark, on 10/07/2008, -2/+25This is a pretty crappy list.
- sbartz, on 10/07/2008, -0/+22buried for 6 pages and no meaningful writing
- ddawggin, on 10/07/2008, -0/+14I love how Zelda being twice was mentioned even though they admit it happened in the NES and N64.
So basically just the SNES got *****? - samard2002, on 10/07/2008, -1/+13Metroid was a girl. Spoiler!
- PleaseJustDie, on 10/07/2008, -0/+12In all fairness to the snes though, I personally think A Link to the Past is the best one in the series still.
- Skewt, on 10/07/2008, -1/+13Who can take a site serious when it's named nintendowiifanboy.com?
- cambrown99, on 10/07/2008, -0/+11And on the NES
The only system that didn't have two Zeldas was the SNES (and the Wii so far) - JohnnyQwest, on 10/06/2008, -3/+14Them losing Rare was kind of like Disney losing Pixar. Now I'm playing Banjoo-Kazooie on XBLA...weird
- Ocelot13, on 10/07/2008, -0/+10theres also Xbox360Fanboy and PS3Fanboy, DSFanboy, PSPFanboy... all on the same site network.
- TCFrancis, on 10/07/2008, -1/+11I'm surprised that Nintendo's decision to stick with the cartridge format for the N64 wasn't on the list. Their reluctance of the optical disc format not only eroded their dominance in the industry, but also gave rise to a formidable competitor in Sony.
- RemarkableRyan, on 10/07/2008, -0/+10Mario not getting it on with the princess after saving her was the biggest surprise...
- tehrich, on 10/07/2008, -0/+9Not to mention two for the Game Boy Color, at the same time nonetheless. Three if you count the DX remake of Link's Awakening. And two for the GBA if you count the port of Link to the Past...
- Shaflugi, on 10/07/2008, -0/+8Metroids have genders? I thought they were just face suckers.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+8CD's suck for game systems. They get scratched to easily, and they were slow as ***** to load. Plus a cart you can slap some extra hardware to, to improve the game (like Star Fox's FX Chip). Make me wonder tho, if they would of stuck with the Snes CD, than PSX most likely wouldn't be here. The video game market would be quite different.
- raquel9e, on 10/07/2008, -0/+7If you count Four Swords Adventure then the GameCube actually got three Zelda titles.
- tigertee, on 10/07/2008, -0/+7thanks for posting it, i hate websites that leech traffic and views by making an arcticle that could be on one page, be on 5 pages.
- RemarkableRyan, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6Aww, Spoiler Bro!
- diorella, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6pfft crappy list..
- TCFrancis, on 10/07/2008, -1/+7All good points and I do agree with you. But the simple fact is the industry was changing and Nintendo didn't change with it. Maybe because of their success for two straight generations up to that point, they arrogantly thought they could dictate the direction the industry took.
- kenshin128, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6It wasn't listed because it wasn't made by Nintendo, it was made by Abrams/Gentile Entertainment and manufacturer by Mattel.
- skywake, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5If Nintendo stuck with the SNES CD then SEGA would probably still be making consoles. Something to think about. :P
- ScottoGato, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5Conker's Bad Fur Day was awesome.
- KingRocket, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5Sad part is once rare switched they never seemed to recapture the glory of their Ninty days.
- daridave, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4I loved Twilight Princess, but am I the only one who feels disappointed by that game? Hear me out -- I'm not saying the game is bad. It's a great game. This isn't a bitching contest... But now that we've all played it, go on youtube or something and go watch the 3 trailers we got to see while waiting for the game. The E3 "blades will bleed" one, the CES "howling wolf" one and the 3rd "darker Link" one . Am I the only one who feels the game that was teased in those trailers could have been so much more? Especially trailer #2, which looked like a hundred times more "fantastic" than the game actually is (maybe it's because I was a sucker for that paradisaical forest in the intro, which turned out to be more of a a ***** swamp in the game) ? I guess all I'm saying is, while the trailers themselves were a huge surprise, the game was far from being Nintendo's best offering in the latest years... it doesn't really deserve a spot in memorable moments of Nintendo history. It's actually turned me off from video games a lot -- I realized my expectations have grown too high now for a "perfect" game, and I will never have it again.
- Tsumuji, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4"One Nintendo franchise iteration per generation. That's generally how things tend to go. Oh, sure, the NES saw two Zelda titles and three Mario titles (two, really), but the norm is that every franchise drops in for one game per generation."
2 NES Zeldas
1 SNES Zelda
2 N64 Zeldas (Why does everyone forget Majora's Mask?)
2 GCN Zeldas.
I don't think the one franchise per generation rule holds up so well here. - charliecharlos, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3And yet, you will fail...
- AnthonyFTMFW, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3I want Perfect Dark for the Wii =(
- trdrstv, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3"FTA: "One Nintendo franchise iteration per generation."
How do they qualify that? Sure there's only been say 1 Mario Kart and one Smash Bros game per system, but even on the NES there were 3 Super Mario Bros Games and 2 Zeldas. 2 Zelda's on the N64, 2 Metroids on the Gamecube...
WTF are they talking about? - xblackxfalconx, on 10/07/2008, -1/+4What about stylus/touch screen gaming on the DS or the "remote" style controller for Wii? (Just to name two innovations in this gaming generation) I thought they were much more surprising than the entire list.
- Disinterested, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3i think ocarina of time was one of the most amazing games ever made.
- cryonix, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3The fact they are making new Banjo games instead of killer Instinct is good enough reason for them to stop making games compleetly. I give them credit for some games, but they lost the vision.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3Ya, i agree not switching caused their slump. Gamers saw that movies could be incorporated into games, and they wanted more. Cartridges of that time just couldn't fit all that. Now they could. In Nintendo's defense tho, most of the other CD system of the time, weren't doing well enough for them to follow, Jaguar CD, 3DO, CD-I, Sega CD etc.
- Shaflugi, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2Why do people make lists, anyways? Why do people even DIGG the lists? Everybody just complains about how ***** they are and how annoying it is that they're on multiple pages, I just don't get it. Who diggs this *****?
- inactive, on 10/06/2008, -1/+3Nintendo chose to sell off Rare to Microsoft for more than $300 million. they didn't "lose" Rare - they owned more than 40% of the company and made the decision independently. when the transaction took place, Rare's games just weren't selling as much to justify Nintendo's continued investment in the company; even tho they were pretty much Nintendo fanboys.
- doshindude, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2There were techinically 4...if you want to count 2 Link's Awakening versions, plus don't forget Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages (which I think are 2 of the best Zeldas ever made, they are very underrated)
- AeroZeppelin, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2This is the best they can do? Seriously?
- trdrstv, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2Yes, MK1 didn't have blood and they lost a TON of sales to the Genesis version. thusly they caved and allowed Blood in MK2.
- Electricpigdigg, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2A shame about Rare. Absolutely loved the Donkey Kong Country games!
- skywake, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2By itself I would agree that TP is better then OoT. When you look at it but and realise that OoT came out 8 years earlier.... OoT starts to look REALLY impressive in comparison. TP is just improvements on an already solid game shell.
Twilight Princess IS better then Ocarina of Time.... but for its time it wasn't... - ericrous, on 10/07/2008, -1/+3Everyone looks at Virtual Boy so negatively. But I see it in a "glass half full or half empty" kind of way. If you look at it as a game machine, sure it was a failure. But if you look it as the world's most effective headache inducer, then it was a rousing success!
- Greanbeens, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1Why couldn't it all be on one page?
- malignatius, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1The biggest surprise for me was when Luigi came out of the closet.
- dekuscrub, on 10/07/2008, -0/+12. Blood in MKII --
I still remember the first time I heard there will be blood. I think I read it in Gamepro (probably summer 1994). I was so shocked to hear it, yet so excited. No more entering game genie blood codes to sqeeze out red sweat from the fighters!! - Swerengen, on 11/03/2008, -0/+1Were any of these really surprises?
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1That thing gave me headaches when I tried to play it.
- dagamer34, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1Well, you forget that the rumors around that time were for a Zelda that looked just like the Wind Waker. The Wind Waker wasn't bad, but revealing Twilight Princess definitely put the mucky year of 2003 firmly in the past.
