- bonk2k, on 06/17/2008, -3/+133Guess I'm not going to be updating my Wii for a while.
- ChokingVictims, on 06/17/2008, -0/+68From wiibrew.org:
17 June 08: Bushing has already announced a workaround after just 6-8 hours of work! Big thanks to all involved! (Note that the workaround is not yet available publicly) - reekon, on 06/17/2008, -2/+57Won't be long before this update starts appearing on new games to try and force it.
- bonk2k, on 06/17/2008, -1/+50Other people are saying that if you already have the homebrew channel installed this update won't affect it. So all hope is not yet lost.

Does your mom still wipe your ass for you? - tallerthenyou, on 06/17/2008, -2/+36WiiBrew.org is a great place to go for up to the minute info on all things homebrew on the Wii
http://wiibrew.org/wiki/June16_update - inactive, on 06/17/2008, -0/+26I can confirm my homebrew channel still works.
- mywhitenoise, on 06/17/2008, -33/+55Haha! hahahaha!
What games are coming out in the near future that holds any interest? I wont be updating mine for months to come. - mickhead, on 06/17/2008, -5/+25Super Smash Bros Brawl (for those in the UK)
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles. (Not the wiiware one)
Samba De Amigo
Rock Band
DeBlob
Fatal Frame 4 (Project Zero 4) - elrac, on 06/17/2008, -5/+25I'll digg you up. The last game I bought was Mario Galaxy, and I haven't seen any others that look interesting.
- WhereAmI, on 06/17/2008, -2/+22Of course it was going to happen. Sony isn't the only one that releases updates that also happen to take out homebrew.
- Zephkiel, on 06/17/2008, -4/+23Fatal Frame 4
de Blob
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers
Animal Crossing Wii
Kirby Wii
Blastworks (Technically it's already out, but I doubt anyone here has bought it)
The Conduit
Deadly Creatures
Disaster: Day of Crisis (it'll come out eventually... I hope)
Fragile
Harvest Moon Wii
Mario Super Sluggers
Sam & Max: Season One
Swords of Legendia
Wii Music (come on, the game looks fun)
Some of these games may be hit and miss, but at least three or four ought to interest you. They're all exclusives, I think. - Quick2822, on 06/17/2008, -1/+20I'm surprised it took this long.
- mywhitenoise, on 06/17/2008, -12/+30All I see is a white screen with a white search bar in the middle, not very informative.
- MeltingIce, on 06/17/2008, -0/+17The difference between Sony and Nintendo: Sony calls them "security improvements" and Nintento calls it "removal of unauthorized modifications". At least they're being honest about whats really happening in the update.
- mywhitenoise, on 06/17/2008, -15/+317 people have dugg me down so far, can you 7 people list me some games that are coming out?
- erichw1504, on 06/17/2008, -0/+16Still waiting for a full out Mii Channel upgrade. There's so much more they can add to change your Mii's appearance with.
Like, a shade bar for the color of your Mii's skin (i'd like to be just a little tanner during the summer season) and more mouths and noses... especially noses! Also you should be able to enter in your exact weight and height so it can look exactly like you compared to the others around you.
Come on Nintendo! - sdphost, on 06/17/2008, -1/+17A work around has already been announced, sorry Nintendo.
- mywhitenoise, on 06/17/2008, -0/+14It killed Freeloader too.
- kravex, on 06/17/2008, -1/+15Wonder no more.
- matthewf01, on 06/17/2008, -2/+16***** shut up.
- homesickalien, on 06/17/2008, -3/+17Bushing is currently looking at the disassembled code with commentary available on his blog here:
http://hackmii.com/2008/06/june-16-wii-update/
Looks like trucha signed disks also no longer work. - ChokingVictims, on 06/17/2008, -0/+14It doesn't disable the channel, only the hack.
- Badam89, on 06/17/2008, -2/+15Its not completely lost.
There is an update on the page.
http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2008/06/16/wii-me ... - estvir, on 06/17/2008, -0/+13It also seems to stop Freeloader from working which sucks for many, especially Europeans and Australians who seem to constantly get shafted by Nintendo.
How's Smash Bros, fun? Well, we wouldn't know 'cause it hasn't been released.. but Freeloader used to work. - theaceoffire, on 06/17/2008, -3/+16"starwars: the force unleashed."
It is a different game for each console, with different control systems.
The WII lets you use the wand as a lightsaber! - mywhitenoise, on 06/17/2008, -1/+14No they don't. Installing Linux isn't exactly homebrew.
- DaveMode, on 06/17/2008, -3/+16And here is the 1 step workaround:
1) Don't update your Wii.
Even if new games come out with 3.3 firmware installed, you can always just use BrickBlocker or Trucha to kill the update and play as normal. - legom7, on 06/17/2008, -7/+20starwars: the force unleashed.
- jordan314, on 06/17/2008, -1/+13I'm surprised they're focusing on homebrew and not on modchips. The wiikey continues to run strong. Homebrew encourages people to learn how to develop for their system, but to make real dough you still need to apply for a Nintendo license to get distribution. Homebrew encourages people to spend more time with the Wii and love them even more.
Modchips on the other hand require no development on the users' part and are strictly for ripping off Nintendo and its developers. So why does Nintendo only attack Homebrew? - tavisjohn, on 06/17/2008, -0/+11That will teach you to install updates the MOMENT they come out!
I tend to wait a week before installing an update. - mywhitenoise, on 06/17/2008, -0/+11No way, dude! Why would they encourage piracy of their games? Have you not heard of the PSP?
- insertAliasHere, on 06/17/2008, -0/+10Sony fought like crazy against the homebrewers on the PSP firmware. But guess who won in the end.
- ngmcs8203, on 06/17/2008, -4/+13Mario Galaxy was the last game you bought for Wii? What about Wii Kart?
- mywhitenoise, on 06/17/2008, -1/+10Actually, I do own a PS3, 2 of them as of right now (because I bought a Gunmetal 40GB one). These are the games I own, plus MGS4 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/mywhitenois ...
You don't have to own a PS3 to know Sony DOES NOT encourage homebrew anyway, dumbass. - insertAliasHere, on 06/17/2008, -1/+10@evo8ftw
Looks like somebody hates being wrong.
Sony allows you to put Linux on the machine. That's not the same as saying: Here, write custom firmware and apps for this system, we don't care. The linux that you install isn't replacing firmware, it's running under a hypervisor, standalone from the system.
Sony isn't a homebrew friendly company. Accept the fact that you're wrong. - bonk2k, on 06/17/2008, -0/+8The homebrew channel comes with a software bundle that includes a region free loader. No hard mods required. Just pop in your imported disc, load up the homebrew channel, and load up the app and then you're ready to go.
- DigitalHippie73, on 06/17/2008, -0/+8Well, if you consider (hypothetically only) hat one could play the older console games on their Wii without having to buy them with points, then in a way it will hurt their business. That being said, I still think the whole homebrew thing is very cool and I'm sure they will find a workaround.
- Froderick, on 06/17/2008, -0/+8That's were modchips come in. Download the ISO, use RegionFrii and BrickBlocker, and hopefully you'll be right. I don't like piracy of video games that much, but when they seem to decidedly screw us over (we get charged close to $100 for new games in Australia, even though our dollar is nearly the same as the US dollar), then I'm not too apologetic when it comes to pirating.
How long has SSBB been out in the US? And it still isn't out here yet? No good reason for that. They intentionally put region coding in the system so places can't get games from other countries for cheaper. They do it to inflate PAL prices to extremes and screw us over. Because of this attitude, I have little sympathy for them anymore. - waluigi14, on 06/17/2008, -1/+9They weren't blocking homebrew, they were blocking PIRACY. So you're saying that you won't buy a Wii if Nintendo protectes it's developers from losing money?
- WaRdRivR, on 06/17/2008, -0/+7yeah, mod chips require Nintendo to have the entire motherboard physically redesigned at the manufacturing level. It takes more time, effort, and money. Also VC titles have sold very well to date. Emulators will cut into their profit margins.
- pitchblack16, on 06/17/2008, -5/+12i need a wii
- Chebsi, on 06/17/2008, -2/+9Nintendo is a serious business. Seriously.
- missingnoh4x, on 06/17/2008, -1/+8Gah. Why does Nintendo have to kill homebrew, region lock consoles, etc? None of those things hurt their business and in fact can only help.
- Froderick, on 06/17/2008, -0/+7No big surprise they try to stop FreeLoader from working. The only reason region-coding is done in consoles is so prices can be driven up in other regions and the consumer can't do anything about it. In Australia, a new game costs close to $100. Our dollar is almost identical to the US dollar nowadays. Australian residents are paying more than twice as much as US residents simply because Nintendo wants to force more money out of us.
Nintendo isn't alone in doing this. But when they intentionally make freeloaders not work for this reason alone, it pisses me off immensely. - TheTjalian, on 06/17/2008, -0/+7All of the Mii data is stored in MASK ROM, which is a one-time-write memory chip. Updating it wouldn't go down so well, a) because it means it would need to go on the internal memory, and b) if someone with a "Mii 2.0" tries to use it with someone who hasn't updated their firmware that could lead to a pretty bad crash.
- incognit0, on 06/17/2008, -1/+7It doesn't.
- Froderick, on 06/17/2008, -0/+6When it comes to a console/handheld that has firmware updates, you always, ALWAYS wait a while after an update has come out, so any issues that arise from upgrading to it will be announced so you can then make a judgment call.
- smoger, on 06/17/2008, -2/+8because people are pirating VC and WiiWare games with it. if people could "behave" and stop using homebrew as another word for piracy, Nintendo might have ignored this.
