- socalrob, on 12/19/2007, -3/+87Go to target. I went on a saturday night and asked if they were getting a shipment that next morning. They said yeah and to come early. I went at 8:45am and got the last one. No pressure. In fact the guy went in the back, got it and walked over to me and my girlfriend and said "Ok, here it is lets go over to the register". I looked at him, and said "but I actually want games". I bought 5 games and an extra controller/nunchuck.
It was nice not being pushed to buy extra crap. I actually wanted it though because they were all games that my girlfriend and I wanted to play. The Target guy said most people don't buy anything else, only the system, which is obvious Ebayers most likely. Target FTW!! - scrumpy, on 12/19/2007, -11/+82Avoid - Best Buy, Sears, Fry's, Circuit City to start.
- punchinelli, on 12/19/2007, -3/+46As long as people keep buying the bundles, they aren't going away. And the bundles sell like hot cakes. If you want to really solve the problem, contact the 40-year old soccer moms that are buying their kids a Wii with 5 games that suck worse than Superman on Nintendo 64 and all sorts of extra accessories that will get shoveled underneath the bed or in the closet. I just gotta have me one of them Wiis for muh son. He gonna pitch a FIT if he don't git one for Christmus.
- capiCrimm, on 12/19/2007, -2/+41FTA "... and always remember, zombie employees respond well to chainsaws and shotguns."
Got it. - Cloudime, on 12/19/2007, -5/+38Dang commenting system. Bury this comment.
- goatomatic, on 12/19/2007, -1/+33Because Nintendo can make laws now?
- dhirajj, on 12/19/2007, -2/+32last year when circuit city was forcing a bundle on me all i did was ask the manager's name and take down the store number and he knew exactly what i was doing, needless to say i walked out without the bundle.
- kpd145, on 12/19/2007, -2/+30My buddy owns a small inner city video game store. He said he cannnot get any Wii's from his distibutor unless he buys the five additional games. What a pisser that is!
- MWeather, on 12/19/2007, -1/+27Obvious ebayer, or just typical Wii owners. My grandmother took 6 months to buy her first game. Wii Sports was just fine for her casual gaming.
- badassninja, on 12/19/2007, -4/+26That is my list of stores to Avoid anyways.
- Demitaka, on 12/19/2007, -2/+21If you force bundle , Reggie will come to your house when the moon is highest in the night skies and murder your family.
-God - munkyxtc, on 12/19/2007, -2/+20Oddly enough I've never encountered a bundle at any of those stores [can't say about Fry's as I don't have one near me]; Toys R Us on the other hand if you want to spend $700 for a system a couple of games and crummy accessories you can buy one right now actually.
- Spytap, on 12/19/2007, -4/+19Your ***** business-plan is not my goddamn problem.
- JosephDurnal, on 12/19/2007, -1/+16The only place I saw a bundle was Costco, but that is how they do everything.
- notman, on 12/19/2007, -1/+15The worst is Walmart... $677 for their bundle. Not to mention, they had the $250 Wii on their site stating sold out... $677 bundle, in stock. How does that work?
- blueZhift, on 12/19/2007, -0/+12As a parent and part time soccer "mom", I can sympathize with the plight of other parents. My main criticism would be that too many parents don't do enough research on the games to avoid often obvious turds! Bundles are not consumer friendly in general, but bundles with crappy games are where we all have to draw the line. It's not my fault that they have 200 copies of the latest game based on the latest crappy Batman movie that they have to move.
- Punisher2K, on 12/19/2007, -1/+13Got mine from Circuit City online. They said it was a bundle but when you dropped it in the cart, it broke it into the individual parts. Just took out the ***** games.
- trixterii, on 12/19/2007, -0/+11Outlawing bundling games with systems...
That sounds like the biggest waste of time and money to me. - Spytap, on 12/19/2007, -1/+12Nope, still not my problem. Don't like it, don't carry it. Simple as that. Other people will, and I'll get it from them.
Since you're on the "sells to consumers" side of the equation and Nintendo is on the "sells to stores" side of the equation, you're spending money to stock the product. Stop carrying it if you're sick of them having a recommended consumer price. Nintendo isn't going to go away and I'll still have fun with my product (that I bought somewhere else) while you sit there with overpriced non-moving merch that you already paid for, bitching about how customers don't care about the plight of the huge corporation. Sounds like you don't care about them either, so it works out okay.
Have fun and once again, "Your ***** business-plan is not my goddamn problem." - ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -1/+12Wow, Reggie makes one little statement and the internet goes to town with it... this is the third front page story I've seen on the topic. Calm down.
- Exhaust, on 12/19/2007, -1/+11There's a new sheriff in town.... His name is Reggie Fils-Aime and he ain't taken no ***** from no varmint retailer forcin Wii bundles.
- shmatt, on 12/19/2007, -0/+9yah, I don't have kids but I wouldn't want to deny them their Wii for xmas. The nintendo 64 xmas video is forever burned in my mind.
- AntBing, on 12/19/2007, -3/+12nope.
- SoCalMario, on 12/19/2007, -0/+9On a day off from work (about 1 month ago) I went to the shopping center near my house. I figured, what the hell I'm going to see if Target had a Wii, they had non behind the glass and I just walked out. No questions asked. Then I went in to the Gamestop (formerly EB Games for this store) I look behind the counter at the 2 sales people and as I looked at them I thought to myself, "should I ask if they have any? It's a stupid question. I know they wont have any. Everytime I ask they dont have any.....oh what the hell I'll ask"
So I asked the sales girl I said, "I know it's a stupid question but do you have any Wii's in stock?" and she said, "of course we have plenty!" Baffled by her response I said, "really? You really have some?" She said, "yes!" Then I said, " Well give me one because I'm taking it!"
My point is, sometimes when you least expect it, like in the middle of the week, in the middle of the day they just might have some Wii's somewhere.
No effort in my part, Didn't have to call around, didn't have to camp out, I walked in and walked out. Maybe I just got lucky??

edit- no it was NOT a bundled system. - emjaymj, on 12/19/2007, -0/+8The Wii has sold more units than the 360 in HALF the time, and has sold more than twice as many units as the PS3 in the same amount of time. Your logic would make sense if these consoles were selling anywhere near as quickly, but they're not. Sony and Microsoft only have to keep up with half the demand that Nintendo is facing.
Besides, it's not that Nintendo is unable to come up with a way to keep up demand. Any company can build more factories to accommodate demand, it's just not financially reasonable. Demand will eventually taper off as everybody who wants a Wii gets one, and it makes no sense for Nintendo to be investing in factories that could be absolutely useless a year from now. Nobody's entitled to a Wii, people can wait. Nintendo is already producing a whopping 1.8 MILLION UNITS PER MONTH.
Unfortunately, that's the downside you have to live with when there is very high initial demand for a product. Nintendo is doing the smart thing as a business and their is absolutely no reason they should be blowing hundreds of millions of dollars just so consumers can get their Wiis faster. - heathuff23, on 12/19/2007, -0/+8I love Target...such a pleasant place to shop. Unlike Walmart where there is ***** all over the aisles and not one employee can tell you where something is located.
- MonarchWastxD, on 12/19/2007, -0/+8In England, it's not that bad. Weirdest thing ever: Some woman walks up to the counter behind me in Waterstones:
"Do you have any Wii consoles?"
"Yes, one."
"Anything come with it?"
"No."
"I'll take it."
It just seemed so random and simple! I was so weirded out. - MarkOfTheDead, on 12/19/2007, -0/+7I knew they were bundling ***** games but.....ones worse than superman 64? Is that even legal based on morality?
- allancorbett, on 12/19/2007, -0/+7One of my friends does actually work as a fudge packer. You'd be surprised at how long a joke can remain funny.
- Spytap, on 12/19/2007, -0/+7Self-righteous? How the ***** do you get off calling someone self-righteous when you wrote "So yeah, you lot who wouldn't buy our reasonably priced and discounted bundles? We hate you"
Tell you what, you sell your "reasonably priced" (albeit forced) bundles with discounts on ***** I didn't want. I'll continue to refuse to buy them and spend my money on things that I want instead of things you want to sell me. The nerve of me! How dare I have an opinion on buying something specific over whatever ***** you have lying around!
Go ***** yourself and your company if you think that. How's that for "nerdrage," I call it "giving my money to your competitors who don't have their heads shoved firmly into their colons." - manstein01, on 12/19/2007, -0/+6"Although I will say this if you really don't want to have to buy a "bundle" why not wait till after the holidays when supply should be up."
I said that to myself last December, and here it is a year later... - daveisfera, on 12/19/2007, -8/+14Nintendo should actually work on ramping up production a little so that supply isn't so constrained (which is what allows things like this to happen).
- mt066, on 12/19/2007, -1/+7"if you were just buying a PS3, you were not worth my time"
Hahahaha whoa everybody the manager at gamestop says you aren't worth his time so just GTFO, okay?? - skywake, on 12/19/2007, -0/+5I would say that most people get the Wii by itself but that doesn't mean that they are scalpers of just wanting Wii Sports. When I got my Wii about a week after launch I got just the Wii because at the time that particular shop didn't have Twilight Princess in stock (plus Wii Sports was more then enough for a while) and all things considered I would consider myself a "core" gamer. My brother just got himself and his family a Wii by itself and is currently considering Wii Remote bundled and VC games... said Sega/Sony convert is also considering Super Mario Galaxy.
It might be typical that people buying the Wii don't get anything else with it but that doesn't mean that they are not considering their options. I am willing to bet that the majority of Wii owners (esp now that there are plenty of solid games) will buy the Wii by itself only to go back within a month to get some more games. I don't think this is a new phenomenon either..... having Tetris on the Gameboy and SMB on the NES caused similar effects. - Naryuu, on 12/19/2007, -1/+6i work at bestbuy. we dont sell bundled packages for any system. costco is infamous for bundling packages though
- Claude1971, on 12/19/2007, -2/+7There's a difference with a pack-in game, and a forced bundle. Remember Super Mario with the SNES, who could complain about that pack-in. While Wii Sports isn't incredibly deep, it's not too bad, and doesn't cost as much as 3 games, and extra Wii mote or 2 and nun-chucks to match.
- sadilak, on 12/19/2007, -1/+6You must be one of the lucky few. Walmart absolutely forces the Bundles . What is worse is that they are full of crappy games.
- Synn, on 12/19/2007, -7/+11What's it like living in your miserable little world?
- jonshipman, on 12/19/2007, -0/+4Costco bundles mustard, ketchup, and mayo - i think they'll be alright bundling consoles.
- theRobot, on 12/19/2007, -2/+6Why don't you just buy the bundle and return the unwanted games after the purchase. That's what I did when it first came out and had no problems.
- dmbftp, on 12/19/2007, -1/+5Exactly what I did as well. The retailers assume that consumers are stupid suckers. 99.9% of the time, they assume correctly.
- bdorry, on 12/19/2007, -1/+5You're comparing the 360 which only has demand in two of three major video game markets, to a system that has major demand in all three markets (US, Europe and Japan). It's obviously going to be easier to get your hands on a 360 considering they don't have to funnel very many to sustain Japanese demand ( or lack thereof ).
The Wii has also sold almost twice as many systems in its first year as the 360 did. I don't understand how its that surprising that they having problems keeping up with demand.
Dated technology or not, theres only so many systems that you can push out at a time, and its hardly a level comparison to compare it to the 360s ability to meet demand given the circumstances - MarkOfTheDead, on 12/19/2007, -0/+4Get a flat screen. Newegg and Tiger direct have some solid deals.
- Cloudime, on 12/19/2007, -0/+4It's a little hard to produce 8 million consoles a month, I'm sure they're doing there best having the fastest selling console ever.
I will admit though that it is very annoying not being able to find any. - duke_nate, on 12/19/2007, -1/+5You must be new here......
- entrophize, on 12/19/2007, -8/+12Hey here's an idea: instead of dropping $400 on a Wii bundle how about taking that money and going on a whitewater rafting trip or something?
Get some sunshine, people. - victoryroadrage, on 12/19/2007, -0/+4Woah, woah, lets not bring Batman into this.
- Exhaust, on 12/19/2007, -2/+6WAAAAAAAH! Poor retailers.
- inactive, on 12/19/2007, -0/+4I saw the same thing and it was actually bundled with two decent games and a spare controller.
- cgrickard, on 12/19/2007, -0/+4dude, i've worked retail forever. how is that a "proper job" moreso than anything else? i understand every company has "add ons," i get where you're coming from. but just because you work for the big corporation that's trying to suck it's customers dry doesn't mean you have to agree that it's the right thing to do. plenty of kids will be perfectly happy w/the FREE disc of wii sports for a month or so, until their parents next paycheck when they can afford another game.
