- EugineMW, on 04/25/2008, -7/+97Don't see the point cutting the price honestly. The Wii is already in high demand while in limited supply, cutting the price will only increase demand, why the supply remains low. Makes no business sense whatsoever.
- RudeTurnip, on 04/25/2008, -2/+82To get you to buy a second controller.
- mr.gates, on 04/25/2008, -6/+59Keep the price the same bundle a second controller. Whats the point of wii sports without two controllers?
- ryodoan, on 04/25/2008, -3/+50Why would they cut the price of a console that retailers cant even keep in stock at its current price?
- mikkee07, on 04/25/2008, -20/+59Are they really need it? Wii is the cheapest console in my hometown.
- macatizor, on 04/25/2008, -6/+44Was anyone actually waiting for a price cut?
- saunders45, on 04/25/2008, -2/+39Dear Nintendo, please the money you're making by not cutting the price, and make an online system that's worth a damn.
Sincerely,
Everyone. - cheeseron, on 04/25/2008, -4/+38the wii is cool but it won't take long before the 360 and ps3 are pretty close to $250
- darkchild82, on 04/25/2008, -8/+40'Do' they need it? No, with the demand still high, they face no reason to go for a price cut. But it would be nice if they used all the money they're making to fund projects that are on par with Super Mario Galaxy (as far as visuals are concerned). It kind of sucks when you keep seeing games that look 3 years on a system that is selling in 2008.
P.S: the Wii is the cheapest in anyone's "hometown" ... wherever they are in the world. - krakelohm, on 04/25/2008, -2/+32Nintendo would be stupid to drop the price with the Wii selling so well. Why cut your profits if you don't need to?
- DreKor, on 04/25/2008, -2/+31I like the notion that they don't deserve the profits they're making. Somehow Nintendo is cheating at life. They're being disproportionately and unfairly awesome.
- Senturion, on 04/25/2008, -0/+27Leave the price as is but for the love of God add more storage!
- logicalnoise, on 04/25/2008, -3/+27except europe where the 360 is cheaper
- madhouseradio, on 04/25/2008, -1/+24Yes, the money must be pleased.
- logicalnoise, on 04/25/2008, -0/+21my ***** is about 2 bucks/lb or about 3.2 British pounds/lb. The wii weighs 2.7 lbs 250/2.7=92.56 so the wii is $92.56/lb. Not quite cheap as *****.
- Enron1985, on 04/25/2008, -0/+18In other news, drug dealers refuse to drop the price of cocaine.
- chrissku, on 04/25/2008, -4/+22Nintendo...you little rebel you.
- Nathanage, on 04/25/2008, -4/+22practically being given away????? even with multiple price cuts and the option to buy a downgraded model of the other two systems, the wii is STILL cheaper.
- Psythik, on 04/25/2008, -0/+17And while you're at it, add voice chat to multiplayer!
- inactive, on 04/25/2008, -2/+17Xbox 360 is cheaper in Europe.
- exomni, on 04/25/2008, -1/+15And Japan.
- Jambi, on 04/25/2008, -1/+15PS: Please try and get some better third-party developers. Most third-party games for the Wii suck. Does Konami still make games? Get those guys and make a Contra that you can play with the Wii-mote.
- krets, on 04/25/2008, -1/+15What's that in Courics?
- Jambi, on 04/25/2008, -3/+14My local Target store, for one.
- ConNERD, on 04/25/2008, -4/+15And why would they cut the price? People are STILL standing in line and bombarding local retail outlets with calls to buy the system for $250. Would dropping the price get more people to buy the system? Probably. Does Nintendo need those sales? No way.
It's a business, people. Don't call them greedy for making good decisions for the future of their enterprise. - Balanced, on 04/25/2008, -6/+16The _manufacturing_ may be $10, but the design and such is more.
- daridave, on 04/25/2008, -6/+15Cheapest console: true.... but it's also the one that gives you the less bang-for-buck. Seriously, I'm a big Nintendo fan. Always been, always will be. But... come on now, get over the "we're selling a lot" argument, Nintendo. Your console is getting pretty boring, pretty fast ! If only they would reinvest all the money they're making directly into the console... more software... maybe even more hardware... it would help... but right now, they're WAYYY too relaxed !
- WiseWeasel, on 04/25/2008, -0/+9Seriously, where's the fun if you can't talk smack to 10-year-olds?
- dfeifer, on 04/25/2008, -1/+9unfortunatly they can't be found in my area as well, UNLESS, you are willing to sit outside of the gamestop all day monday when they get thier delivery of MYBE 1 or 2 systems. just too many people in my area that want them, and not enough places to sell them.
- Schmapdi, on 04/25/2008, -1/+9I've still to this day never seen a Wii sitting around my local Best Buy. I don't know why in the world anyone would think Nintendo would even think about a price cut atm.
- daridave, on 04/25/2008, -0/+8dammit, they got me!
- WiseWeasel, on 04/25/2008, -2/+9Thank you for taking the time to illustrate the ravages of teen pregnancy...
- JRumph, on 04/25/2008, -2/+9I believe a pound of ***** is roughly 1/120 Katie Couric. Give or take.
- logicalnoise, on 04/25/2008, -1/+8Courics are a measure of mass not perceived value(unless your referring to a world record of some type).
- inactive, on 04/25/2008, -0/+7The point is that you have to try. You're almost guaranteed to be able to get a PS3 or a 360 at most places that sell games.
- innocentsinner, on 04/25/2008, -0/+7You can -sell- it?
- mlvassallo, on 04/25/2008, -2/+8Anybody digging you up deserves their ignorance.
- Smeed, on 04/25/2008, -1/+6Most common question I get at work: "Do you guys have any Wiis?" Seeing as I am a garbage man, why would nintendo ever have to lower the price?
- BryanG412, on 04/25/2008, -11/+16There is no reason to cut prices, it's cheap as ***** already
- coit, on 04/25/2008, -3/+8Why would they cut the price? They can't keep them in stock anywhere as it is.
- kiduk, on 04/25/2008, -2/+7Balanced is right.
People always like to say that games and consoles are incredibly over priced, and if you go by cost of materials per unit, they are. But games and consoles aren't just the plastic they're made of, the cost represents the hundreds of thousands, or even millions in the case of game consoles, it takes to design the respective game or console. Nintendo didn't ***** out a Wii prototype and then call the factory, they spent years designing it.
Also, as a Japanese company, they are getting kind of screwed already: the falling USD means they make less per console sold than what they made before. In these conditions, whining about Nintendo not lowering the price is immature. - emjaymj, on 04/25/2008, -0/+5And yet the Wii is still outselling the 360, so why exactly does it need a price cut again? Oh right, because I don't want to pay as much!
- noloveIII, on 04/25/2008, -3/+8What they should do is ramp up frickin supplies. It is inexcusable to have Wii shortages outside of holiday times this far from launch. It will be a while before they lower price, probably not until the ps3/360 are there (the real 360 not arcade).
- tacojohn48, on 04/25/2008, -7/+12I agree it belongs in a museum; as the most innovative console ever. It is the only one that is different.
- BenKenobi88, on 04/25/2008, -0/+4No, that would piss off fans and start a ton of negative press...I'm sure that would hurt in the long run.
- SemajReffahs, on 04/25/2008, -1/+5ahh no way
- emjaymj, on 04/25/2008, -0/+4You're totally right. It's hard enough in most localities to get a Wii at its current price, Nintendo should just be nice guys and lower the price when they can't even keep up with the quantity demanded as it is! Smart move Mr. Buffett!
- Ahnteis, on 04/25/2008, -0/+4When you make "observations", it's best to include some actual fact. :) You might not get buried that way.
- tomjm5000, on 04/25/2008, -4/+8And with sales going strong, demand high, and supply continuing to be insufficient, why would they even want to? I don't see why this is even news.
