- LostOverThere, on 05/23/2009, -4/+76What are you all so down about? This is great news. MP1, MP2, and MP3 all together for only $49USD. That's the price of a standard Wii Game, and we're getting 3 of some of the finest games of their generations.
- jtbndy, on 05/22/2009, -21/+66Nintendo would rather put out Super Mario and Zelda's Prime Masturbation Tennis Kart Land 13 than invest in a new IP.
- inactive, on 05/23/2009, -11/+53Its pretty sad when the only good games coming out for a console are re-releases of old games.
- CoD4, on 05/22/2009, -17/+58Wake me up when they release a 2d metroid
- JshMRsn, on 05/23/2009, -6/+40*dusts off Wii*
- xRand0mx, on 05/23/2009, -5/+33I dugg you up because its true.
This is going to get me buried to all hell but seriously, Nintendo should start to use some of their creativity into new IPs. I loved these games to death when I was younger but as the years go on and they pump another Mario/Zelda/Metroid game out I start to slowly lose interest. They are decent games, they just are not original anymore. People will say "look at Mario Galaxy that game was amazing" and they might be right but I've already played Mario (many many times) and I want something new out of my game. - PhoenixAvatar2, on 05/23/2009, -0/+27I'd love a new 2D Metroid. The GBA ones were great. A new one would give me an excuse to pull my DS out of the closet.
- nshady, on 05/23/2009, -3/+23Oh suck it up. This is a fantastic trilogy that a lot of people never played. Releasing them with all these tweaks in one package (as opposed to making you buy all three separately like you'd have to in Japan) is a bargain. To all of the people giving it ***** - I presume you've completed all of them? It probably took a team of five people at Retro a couple of months to put together - once their big project is revealed at E3 we can see whether it negatively affected them to do so.
- phazonsuit07, on 05/23/2009, -0/+19Echoes wasn't garbage, it was just the exact same game as Prime 1 but with a light and dark world mechanic. Unoriginal, but not bad.
- Encephalon, on 05/23/2009, -0/+18For those who have never played or own any of these titles, this is going to be an unbeatable deal. Gamers like myself who already own all three will probably think twice before sinking a Grant on the game but it doesn't make it any less of a great sale.
- cesclaveria, on 05/23/2009, -3/+19I know what is the point of your argument, that we need some fresh faces and motivations on the stories, but to use Mario Galaxy as an example of something old... I guess you did not played it all, it has enough new material to merit being a new game.
The games are as good or even better than ever, the game mechanics are new and improved but may be the characters need some more work - mistergoomba, on 05/23/2009, -0/+16I know! I was so excited, I was expecting to see more positive comments. Metroid Prime 3 is probably one of the only, if not the only games I've played for Wii that actually benefited from the new play controls. The first one was classic and I can't wait to play it over again!
- ZebraApocalypse, on 05/23/2009, -0/+16More situations? It is 3 games released together. It's not like they are making Samus play tennis or race karts.
- inactive, on 05/23/2009, -15/+30RIP
Nintendo creativity and originality... - J353, on 05/23/2009, -3/+18I can think of at least 7 off the top of my head:
Mario Punch-Fighting
Mario Makes Far Too Many Waffles and Needs to Find People to Eat Them All
Magician Mario's Accident and the Hiding of the Assistant's Body
Mentally-ill Mario Gets Lost in the Basement
Mario Party 15: Whoops Waluigi is Dead from Alcohol Poisoning
Super Mario Chewing Challenge
Dr. Mario's Malpractice Mayhem
This ***** is going to be going on for years - noahgelman, on 05/23/2009, -2/+15Ok... so when are they coming out with a new original Metroid?
- Servy, on 05/23/2009, -4/+17Don't get me wrong: I love the Metroid (Prime) Series. But there's just something that's a downer about having games re-released from the last console generation on this one.
- inactive, on 05/23/2009, -2/+14Wait, wait, wasn't it yesterday that everybody who commented "no" to Metal Gear Solid *FIVE* rumor story got f*ing buried to oblivion ? Didn't Megaman 9 sell a f*ckload? Oh and when something different is created, thinking Zack & Wiki here, the "money vote" doesn't really go in favor of the new. Sorry, I don't mean to say you're wrong, but I'm just saying you can't blame Nintendo, Capcom, Konami, SquareEnix, Ubisoft or whoever it is, for doing it. It's called "business" and the rule is "do what you have to do to make profit". Oh and if someone here actually bought a Nintendo machine NOT for Metroid, Mario & Zelda, well... what the f* were you thinking ?! You got sold on Wii Sports, really !?
- Encephalon, on 05/23/2009, -3/+14Hey now, they released Klonoa.
Oh wait. - phazonsuit07, on 05/23/2009, -3/+13or pinball -_-
- bluddystool, on 05/23/2009, -3/+13I think he meant a "new" one.
- M3wThr33, on 05/23/2009, -0/+102 games in 6 months versus 20 elsewhere. It's exactly the same as the GameCube, except now there's no excuse.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 05/23/2009, -3/+13The Gamecube was enough of a failure that I think it's a good idea, especially with the new controls. It's just a shame that this is one of, what, three? decent games coming out for the Wii this year.
- moofree, on 05/23/2009, -0/+9Hopefully they don't remove all of my beloved speedrun tricks.
- Bic823, on 05/23/2009, -1/+10Okay, seriously... complain all you want about "lack of originality", but you have to admit, Metroid Prime is amazing.
- themastersb, on 05/23/2009, -0/+8Just when I beat Metroid Prime for the first time last month.... now they go and announce this?
- crashingechelon, on 05/23/2009, -0/+8Isn't that what the virtual console is for?
- CoD4, on 05/23/2009, -0/+7Echoes was harder than prime, which is the main reason people didn't like that game, but it was still a lot of fun. Also, it's pretty much impossible to top prime, they came very close.
- MikeMania, on 05/23/2009, -1/+8Oh comon guys. E3 is almost upon us, and from all the hype that Nintendo is getting from insiders, I am sure there is gonna be awesome games coming.
- MikeMania, on 05/23/2009, -0/+7Awesome deal, but that means its a great game and that also means that as a Wii owner, I bought MP3 the minute it came out.
It's probably still a deal if you don't own the first two though. - LeroyJenkems, on 05/23/2009, -1/+8***** yes!
- felman87, on 05/23/2009, -3/+9I remember hearing that last year.
- Philbert, on 05/23/2009, -1/+6Ya know what awesome game I just saw in the store yesterday for Wii? Grey's Anatomy the game.
- Radan, on 05/23/2009, -5/+10What really annoys me though, is that Nintendo is about the only game company that can keep doing this. What if Microsoft only published Halo based games? No one would accept that. EA? Same thing there, but for some reason Nintendo is entirely forgiven with one vague excuse after another.
I don't like it! Everyone else have to work their arses off in order to refine every minuscule element in the game, from story, soundtrack, gameplay and graphical style to how heavy the character feels when walking. Nintendo in the other hand just need to slap on a Mario sticker on the packaging in order for it to top every single review.
I've loved Nintendo since the NES, but now it just feels like they've passed their prime time and are now simply leeching off their trusting fanbase as much as possible.
I honestly hope that E3 will prove me wrong, though. - suntzusputnik, on 05/23/2009, -0/+5http://www.vgboxart.com/boxes/Wii/19073_metroid_pr ...
- allisonaxe, on 05/23/2009, -0/+5"Mario Makes Far Too Many Waffles and Needs to Find People to Eat Them All"
I would buy this one 15 times on each platform. - rpgguy1o1, on 05/23/2009, -0/+5punchout is no more of a remake than doom 3 is a remake of doom
- RoboJesus, on 05/23/2009, -4/+9I like the characters. I'm familiar with them, and they make me happy. If Nintendo suddenly abandons, really, ANY of those franchises, a part of me would die.
- chaosblade77, on 05/23/2009, -1/+5Old genres? Maybe you don't know what genre means.
And I don't really see what the problem with game franchises is. Would Mario Galaxy have been a better or worse game had it starred a new character instead of Mario? Would Metroid Prime 3 have been a better or worse game if it didn't include Samus? I don't see why the title of a game or the characters it includes has any influence on the quality of the game.
It's kind of like SquareEnix and Final Fantasy, people keep asking "when is it going to end?" I guess they've never played any of the games because the only similarities they have are the title and genre, and none of them are (officially) connected in any way. - electrikyle, on 05/23/2009, -0/+4Not a bad deal for $50.. MP3 alone took me 20 something hours to beat, so for three games at that rate thats less than a dollar an hour of story time alone.. I'd definitely suggest this to a Wii owner who hasn't played the Prime games.
- chaosblade77, on 05/23/2009, -1/+5I'm not seeing the connection between this and a bunch of new Mario games.
Next up, Lionhead confirms Fable 3, so a bunch of new Halo games are imminent? - nugz85, on 05/25/2009, -1/+5at least the games are you know... new, not half a decade old...
- doshindude, on 05/22/2009, -5/+9RTFA, seriously.
- inactive, on 05/23/2009, -2/+6They're already working on the sequel!
- banny2021, on 05/23/2009, -1/+4i own all three Primes, ***** love them & i'ma ***** love this too.
- blitz718, on 05/23/2009, -0/+3I still go back and play prime 1/2. This isnt exactly necessary for me, but very cool for the people who got into the series with MP3
- jcroweall7, on 05/23/2009, -1/+4It would be awesome if they put Mario in the Metroid Prime universe. It'd be like a survival mode, since I doubt jumping on Samus' enemies' heads would do any good.
- allisonaxe, on 05/23/2009, -1/+4so, why didn't any of you buy Excitebots? sure, the name implies a spinoff of "excite bike" and "excite truck" but its pretty much a completely new thing.
Nintendo does put out a new franchise every now and then, usually about one per generation.. gamecube had pikmin that was brand new, wii has all the casual "primary colors against white backdrop with miis running around" games... N64 brought us the Smash Bros series (which smashes up the franchises into a new form of gameplay) with GBA came Warioware (which was based on an existing character, sure, but has so little in common with the original series that it has redefined what a game starring "wario" is.)
Also, considering how consistent the quality is of nintendo-made games, I'm willing to overlook that they recycle (beloved) characters in new situations. sure, there are a ton of games featuring mario characters on the wii alone.. how many of them play like any of the others, though? - jcroweall7, on 05/23/2009, -0/+3The only thing to be down about is if you own the games already. But in that case, yeah, you probably paid more, but the same can be said for getting them off Amazon for cheap. I have them all already, but the way I see it, I paid a little extra to play it earlier than others.
- inactive, on 05/25/2009, -0/+3How many new IP's did MS and Sony roll out?
