- skywake, on 12/18/2007, -7/+46What's with all this "no good 3rd party" crap? Just because Mario, Metroid and Zelda are the "must haves" doesn't mean that third parties are ignoring them. If you are not planning on picking up games like Zack and Wiki that's your problem not the third parties.
If you are going to criticize the Wii for something have a go at the fact that you need Gamecube controllers and memory to play Gamecube games even when there exists internal memory and classic controllers. Complain that we don't have the "Everybody's Nintendo Channel" yet and that we are sick of the Mii centric type channels. Bitch that we still don't have Kart and Brawl. I just hope that next year I don't have to keep hearing the same complaints I have been hearing all this year purely because I am sick of hearing "get rid of friend codes", "give me voice chat" and "why can't I play DVDs?"...... shut the ***** up already! - Sabin, on 12/18/2007, -1/+22The Wavebird is better than the Classic controller anyways.
- noloveIII, on 12/18/2007, -1/+17Wow, such an obvious troll. Work on the delivery a little more next time
- greenblob, on 12/18/2007, -0/+15You can't use Classic Controllers for GameCube games because of pressure-sensitive buttons. And aren't GC controllers cheaper anyway?
- Sabin, on 12/18/2007, -4/+19Metroid Prime 3.
BTW, quality of content is more important than the type of content. When you are mature enough to realize that, then you can call yourself a real gamer. - BlueSkyfish, on 12/18/2007, -6/+20Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, Medal of Honor Heroes 2, The Godfather Blackhand Edition, Manhunt 2
(The last one sucks, but that doesn't matter since apparently all you want it a game with lots of blood to make you seem mature in front of your middle school friends) - nicksawick1, on 12/18/2007, -5/+18They did it by being cheaper than the competition, while staying interesting to the largest audience. Great job, looking forward to 2008.
- xerus, on 12/18/2007, -3/+16If you bought only 3 Wii games, then you should just give up and go back to sci fi first person shooters for the next 20 years.
- xerus, on 12/18/2007, -0/+12People buy Nintendo consoles, then proceed to only buy Mario games, and then bitch and moan about the non existant 3rd party titles. For chrissake, the titles are there, but God forbid someone having to play a game with a metascore below 90!
- withoutashovel, on 12/18/2007, -0/+12The reason the Wii is so hard to find is because (and i read this on another Digg article) that they only have existing factories churning out Wii's right now, and building a new factory solely for Wii's is not good business cause when demand starts slowing down they would have too many new factories to maintain and lose money off of.
But personally, I think the problem are the people who spend all their time looking and buying Wii's only to turn them around and sell them on eBay. - Buelldozer, on 12/18/2007, -1/+13They are making 1.8 million units PER MONTH. That is a lot of dang Wiis!
- gcnaddict, on 12/18/2007, -2/+12As a GAMER, I give you a Wii. Clearly you haven't played one yet.
- buddahead9, on 12/18/2007, -1/+9I never got the big deal about not being able to play DVDs on a Wii... Doesn't everyone have a DVD player sitting around somewhere?
- ThankTheCheese, on 12/18/2007, -0/+6I agree on many points, but I have to say I am disappointed by the 3rd party titles. I'm sure this will change now that the developers are taking the Wii more seriously, but at this point I don't see how you can say 3rd party titles are great.
There are really only 2 truly high rating 3rd party titles, Resident Evil 4 and Zack & Wiki. Resident Evil 4 is a remake, so IMO doesn't really count; and Zack & Wiki is not out yet in many parts of the world, so this doesn't count for those outside of the US anyway (coming out late January here in Australia)
There are other good titles like Madden, Rayman and Elebits, but while these are good, they're not so good they will convince someone to buy the console who was on the fence. - h4rdcor3, on 12/18/2007, -1/+7Resident Evil? Manhunt 2? Metroid? Fire Emblem? Metal of Honor? I wouldn't exactly call those kiddie games.
- fognozzle, on 12/18/2007, -0/+6Ghey and AIDS. Very mature.
- MioTheGreat, on 12/18/2007, -3/+9Still waiting for Brawl, Nintendo....
- WhoDoneIt, on 12/18/2007, -2/+8I for one grew up with Atari and the first Nintendo. Bought a N64 with college money but wasn't really into games at that point. Just chicks and beer back then. Now I'm settled, making money and enjoying life and I like to play a variety of different video games. Kinda like the NES days of the 90's. I don't have a need to sit down every day to play it out online with a zillion people. I like to enjoy a few beers, put on pretty much any Wii game and have a good time. Play at my pace. Put it down at will. It will probably take me months to beat Mario Galaxy. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy it. Life goes on for me and life calls. But when I have a break, nothing beats chilling out with a Wii. I feel like I don't owe the console anything, if that makes sense. I don't feel like my "on-line" community needs me every waking hour helping to beat gelatinous cubes with +3 short sword.
The Wii allows me to play at my own pace. And what it really excels at is having fun with family and friends. I can have another couple over and the 4 of us can have a good time after dinner playing together. Playing Wii sports, or golf, or warioware. I don't need to lock myself in my room, infront of a 62" HDTV screaming into a mic wrapped around my brain. When I say that, I don't mean it as a bad thing. That is NOT for me. Not my style and I'd bet there are a lot of people who think the same way. Hence the sales of the Wii. It's fine if you don't like the Wii. It doesn't hurt my feelings. I'm glad you enjoy the other systems and the games. I really do. Each to their own. But I'd almost bet my last dollar when most of you get older, and I'm not talking old geezer here, your tastes will change too. Maybe not to the likes of the Wii, but you might start to see and understand why others might just like that game system. Why we don't need 50 -in-one console to play music, take pictures, 200tb hardrive, blue-ray player etc.. I already own these things in my entertainment desk and I want them to be that way. I like the looks of a standalone DVD player. I like my 500gb drive in my PC. I like my MP3 player IN my sterio system. I don't want to see a "game console" handle all that. I want my pieces to fit my decoration in my home. Woah..yes I'm ramblin on. Anyway. My point is I'm quite happy with all the games Nintendo has to offer. I hadn't played Zelda since the first one on NES. I enjoyed it again, port or not. I haven't played Mario since N64. I enjoyed it again. I had never even heard of Paper Mario.. but I liked that one too. - thebellmaster1x, on 12/18/2007, -2/+7God forbid my video game console doesn't do everything my computer can.
- Elranzer, on 12/18/2007, -1/+6You mean like Wii Sports/Play/Fit, etc?
- thephosphorbox, on 12/18/2007, -3/+7Who doesn't have a standalone DVD player these days? Or an old PS2 for that matter?
- thebellmaster1x, on 12/18/2007, -0/+4Hell, I didn't and wouldn't buy a classic controller anyway. I had two GC controllers, and they work with everything except Wii games. Seems like a better buy to me.
Kart and Brawl are coming out pretty soon, but we've definitely had great games to tide us over. And I'm pretty sure (correct me if I'm wrong) that I read a story on here that Nintendo decided to begin implementing voice chat.
Overall, I think the Wii has had a great year, and I'm looking forward to seeing what it'll do next. - thephosphorbox, on 12/18/2007, -0/+4Too bad they discontinued that controller and every jerkoff who still has one for sale knows it. Try getting one for a reasonable price.. not an easy task in the least.
- trisweb, on 12/18/2007, -0/+4Wish my professors averaged my grades like that... hmm, let's see here... A, B+, B-, C, C, B+, B, A- .... let's go with.... A- ! Hahaha.
I've got a wii and it's fun, so I'd say that's fair. Those who are saying it's totally average are missing the point. Of course it's an average console, but nothing about that makes it inherently less fun. In face a lot of things about it make it inherently more fun than normal consoles, but in a different way. If you're not cool with that stick to your Xbox360 and PS3, they're great too. - iofthestorm, on 12/18/2007, -1/+5The fact that people can still do that and make a profit attests to the insane demand for the Wii.
- inactive, on 12/18/2007, -1/+5I have both as well... and have had similar experience. I have been woefully underwhelmed by the wii games. Like... All the way... Then I look at the games getting the good reviews... Cooking Mama? F that, Im not even going to rent that...
SMG is a pretty good game... but best game of all time? Really? So now I take Wii game reviews with a grain of salt. - blankoboy, on 12/18/2007, -0/+3Yeah but not everyone wants to clutter up the living space (especially here in Japan where space is a premium) with unnecessary junk and cables. If the hardware can do it there is no reason not to add this functionality. Why should the consumers even have to ask for this, when it should be a no-brainer.
- KingGorilla, on 12/18/2007, -0/+3no you must be new here
- nwoolls, on 12/18/2007, -0/+3Disks sold being a more important metric than players sold. Which number do you think studios care about?
- konstantinos88, on 12/18/2007, -4/+7logged in to bury the ***** out of you
- SamuelHenderson, on 12/18/2007, -1/+4I dunno, I have a Wii and a 360 and whenever friends come over we usually wind up playing either Halo 3, Gears of War or Team Fortress 2.
We do occasionally play Wii Sports... but for the most part we use the 360. I suspect when Brawl comes out the Wii will get more attention. - nastajus, on 12/18/2007, -1/+4Cost. That's a reason.
- lostmongoose, on 12/18/2007, -0/+3Actually the GC controller will be usable in Brawl :D
- FriedTurkey, on 12/18/2007, -1/+4Wow. Don't be such an obvious troll. At least try to sound less desperate for attention by saying ***** you don't believe.
- dagamer34, on 12/18/2007, -0/+3Still waiting for the Square-Enix stamp of approval with a decent game crossing the system. FF:CC on the cube just wasn't what I was looking for.
- TheFinestShadow, on 12/18/2007, -3/+6Uh, how come these grades don't average out to an A- at the end? Punching them in numerically using a standard grading scale (4 for A, 3.66 for A-, 3.33 for B+, 3 for B, etc), I came up with 3.03 something, B average...
- nwoolls, on 12/18/2007, -1/+4Smoke some more guys. MGS4 and FFXIII are both PS3 exclusives. It's been confirmed time and time again, and recently at that.
- fognozzle, on 12/18/2007, -1/+3Ocarina of Time was almost 2 years late, and was certainly worth the wait. When Nintendo delays, it's for quality purposes.
- inactive, on 12/18/2007, -4/+6I've only bought one Wii game, it's stupid to buy a game, beat it, then never play it for the rest of your life due to lack of replayability (no online). I just rent wii games mostly.
Call me crazy, but I actually really enjoy all of these first person shooters more than Super Mario Galaxy or Zelda. I'm not saying they are bad games, I just feel like I'm having so much more fun talking to my friends while making a map in Halo, or actually having some kind of social experience in the game besides NPCs. - opnickc, on 12/18/2007, -0/+21) DVD Playback licensing costs about $20.
2) Anybody who would be in the market for a game console already has a DVD player
Sound like two good reasons to me. - trisweb, on 12/18/2007, -0/+2Bingo, nicely worded and well said. The people complaining about it aren't who it's made for (clearly) and the Xbox and PS3 fill their needs better. For those of us who just want to have some fun sometimes the Wii is pretty great.
- h4ppydotcom, on 12/18/2007, -0/+2Surely there cannot be *that* many scalpers? Nintendo must be shipping tens of thousands of consoles a week (if not more) - how many show up on ebay? Hundreds? It can only be a small percentage of total output... can't it?
- tendonut, on 12/18/2007, -1/+3I really don't think anyone should be allowed to refer to their system's game lineup by bringing up upcoming games. The Sony fanboys have been doing that for a long time now. The Nintendo and Microsoft team primarily talk about what is available right now. Last time I checked, kids don't ask for systems for Christmas so they can buy games that aren't out yet. Right now, Nintendo and Microsoft have a great lineup, while Sony is still lacking in the number of quality titles. Most likely though, Nintendo wins this Christmas, the PS3 becomes the butt of all the jokes once again.
- Dylson, on 12/18/2007, -2/+4THEY GOT A BIG FAT HAIRY D-
- hongkongjapie, on 12/18/2007, -2/+4Because of the audience, Nintendo has to be a bit more careful how to roll out the networking stuff. It has to be dead simple and more importantly they have to make sure no kids get accidently in contact with a 13 year old that only can scream f*ck*ng bl*ck j*w*sh b*tch go l*ck your f*thers *rse or billion dollar lawsuit here we come! Unfortunately we live in a society where nobody wants to take their own responsibility. The price we pay is that a company like Nintendo also targeting young audience having to introduce things like friendcodes and be slow an reluctant to introduce online functionality. It's not a technical hurtle, it's a way bigger hurtle than that: american lawyers.
The Wii is meant for non-hardcore gamers/people. People who play a fast game when friends are over or maybe once in a while a title with more depth. For gamers into fps there is the 360/PS3 with online play/matchmaking/whatever. I guess if you let the real target audience review the Wii big change they wouldn't even mention online play. Unfortunately almost all game reviews and console reviews are done by core gamers so they often miss the point for a large part of the target audience. - thebellmaster1x, on 12/18/2007, -0/+2Meh, meh, meh. I control Link by flailing around like a madman OR NOTHING.
- emjaymj, on 12/18/2007, -0/+2That doesn't really make it artificial demand. They are able to scalp them for an extra $150 because there are end users willing to buy them for an extra $150. If the scalpers weren't buying them up, you can be damn sure the same people buying them off eBay would have no problem paying only 60% of what they're paying now for a Wii.
- inactive, on 12/18/2007, -1/+3I don't have a wii, but i have a ds. I need some way to get a hold of a wii.
